Alan had landscaped a couple of our neighbor's front yards and we liked what he did. We had a quote from another company but Alan made a better impression on us with his knowledge of materials and plants. It didn't hurt that his quote was much more reasonable as well. With the initial drawing, there were a couple of things we didn't care for and asked to make changes. Alan was very accommodating and did so without any pushback or protests. They stated the job on a Monday and we're 90% finished on Saturday! The turf was delayed but when it was delivered, the crew came out and finished up that day. In comparison, our backyard took about 10 weeks to complete. Angel manages the crew but does much of the actual work himself. He has an eye as to how to place features, like the boulders and mounds to make the yard more interesting. Like Alan, he was very accommodating when we asked to move a couple of the lights and a boulder. We are very happy with the finished project! After living in our new home for 5 years, it was time to landscape the backyard. It was something I had attempted to do myself, starting a project but abandoning it a few months later. It didn't help that many "fly by night" contractors were trying to push their companies when we first moved in and were burned by two different individuals. However, I felt time it was time to install landscaping in the front and back yards. I had reached out to a few different local landscaping companies, one that came via recommendation and others, like Green Planet I found online and found favorable after reading reviews. While I wasn't completely sure what I wanted, I used previous estimates when Alan stopped by to draw up plans and his estimate. In the backyard, I wanted to fill in the remaining dirt with a patio and walkway that would run the length of a 12'x'16' cage and to provide a 2-foot border off the fence to add shrubbery around the patio. The front yard had been devoid of plants for about 3 years, the poor landscaping put in by the developer had not been properly set up on the irrigation timer and the bark had long since faded. I removed all the bushes and trees in the front yard to help save on the overall cost. This was something I could do, even if it took me a bit longer. In place, I wanted to go with a xeriscape, all 3/4" Lodi or Lodi Cobble, with a few assorted, drought tolerant plants and some large (200 lb.) boulders. While I had removed much of the drip irrigation lines, the main feed point was still intact. Alan's estimate was favorable, when compared to a few of the others I had received. After looking over finances, we texted and emailed a few times and I had changed my initial plans. I asked Alan if he still wanted the job, but only for the backyard. While his price was more than competitive, I looked at what I wanted done in the front yard and figured it was something I could not, although not as quickly as a landscape company could. Alan accepted and we agreed on the price for the backyard. I probably should of asked a few more questions when it came to the paver patio. One of the previous landscape companies noted they were going to dig down 4 inches and build the paver patio up. The first day work started I came home to see a few inches of sub-base and Green Plant laying pavers on top. While it wasn't what I expected to see, the final project looks great! There were a few other issues along the way. First, they reused the 1/2" bender board, which wasn't straight! I left a message for Alan, along with images and he responded saying they would remove the bender board and replace with pressure treated 2"x4" pieces of wood. Much like the final project, this border looked great and it was straight. While I thought Alan and I were on the same page when it came to the walkway, one of my raised planter boxes didn't line up with the cage and tile ended up being placed in and around the side of the box, locking it in place, which will make it very difficult to upgrade or replace in the coming year. I had sent a picture to make sure the walkway was going to be a constant width, but got something different. In hindsight, it's a minor issue but the end result does look good. The last issue came the day he asked for the second (of two) installments for payment. I asked when the bushes were going to be planted and was told we had not agreed to that for the backyard. Thankfully I had the initial contract that was drawn up and sent it to him. Without question or hesitation, he order 10 plants and had his crew there in a few days digging holes and planting the greenery. All in all, I am very happy with the work that was done to upgrade the backyard. While there were issues, I feel I did get what I paid for and it really does complement the house and provide an area to relax in. read more

During the recent rainstorms we found ourselves in a very difficult situation. We had just moved into our new home and were just settling in after a tough move. At first, we noticed the underground drains we are running slow but after the rain picked up our backyard began flooding so badly that I had to dig a big hole and install a large sump pump to keep water from entering our home. After furthur investigation I found the 3 inch drains completely full of tree roots. I tried calling several other companies for help and couldn't find anyone willing to do the job. I spoke with Allan and he said he had just the guys for this type of work. He put together a quote for us and upon our approval sent Angel and his crew over the very next day. Great experience from start to finish. Alan is very responsive and great to work with. Requested a quote through Yelp and received a callback the next day. I was able to schedule a consultation the same week. We started with a dirt yard and wanted a simple design that included a concrete patio, concrete paver walkway (Alan helped us decide on the paver design), grass, rock, and bark; we will be adding plants later ourselves (he provided great suggestions for plants as well). The quote was reasonable and we liked our rapport with Alan so we we decided to move forward with him. Alan said we were about 4-6 weeks to start our project, and it turned out to be about 4 weeks later that we received a call from him that they could start the following morning. Time estimate to complete the project was 2 weeks, but Alan's team completed it in just 4 days! His team was very professional and showed up bright and early each day. We contacted Alan a few weeks after completion because we realized there were a few areas where rock depth was a little shallow, so he had one of his guys come by to take a look at how much rock would be needed and then return to install the additional rock. He has also since come by to fix a small blemish on one of the pavers and while he was here asked if we were still happy with everything else and also provided suggestions on getting rid of the nut grass / weeds that have since popped up on our lawn. Some contractors have a tendency be difficult to get hold of or just disappear completely once the project is done and paid for, but this is far from the the case with Alan. We purchased a new home in Brentwood that had a builder installed front yard, but no back / side yards other than fencing. We met with several landscape design pro's and after meeting with Alan we felt we had a match. I didn't get a call back. Instead I was sent a text message stating that they only serve the cities of Brentwood, Antioch, Oakley and Discovery Bay. So if you live in any city in outside of those 4, don't bother calling them for an estimate.
