Since my last review, they have developed an app so that you can order ahead for in-store or curbside pick up, including from their juice bar. The fireside tonic 1 or 2 oz shot (Apple cider, vinegar, honey, onion, garlic, ginger, chili, horseradish, dandelion, turmeric) is a wild ride if you think you handle the ingredients. I ordered a juice in the morning on yelp. When I walked in- it wasn't ready. Ok fine I'll wait. However the lady working there was in the middle of cleaning the tops of the containers with cleaner, she proceeded to start getting the fruit and veggies to make my juice with the dirty gloves. When I asked her to wash her hands she said she rinsed them but she would change gloves. Smh. read more

Dean's earns my highest praise for their wide selection of supplements and the knowledgeable, friendly staff members who have given me guidance on which supplements to take. For instance, a bottle of magnesium pills I bought at CVS (with out anyone advising me) was cheap but those pills were completely useless in relieving my muscle tension/nerve pain. The man working at Dean's gave me an excellent five minute summary off the top of his head about nine forms of magnesium and the bioavailability of each. He explained why the cheap pills didn't work--that particular form of Magnesium is barely absorbed into the body. Based on his suggestions, I decided to buy the Dean's brand of magnesium glycinate and a Magnesium Oil Topical Mineral Spray. Since using them daily, I have noticed a huge improvement in how I feel! Thank you to the man at Dean's and I'm sorry I didn't ask your name. This is just one supplement that the staff at Dean's has helped me with. In the past six years, people who work there have advised me on iron, B-vitamins, amino acids, herbal remedies, and probiotics. I won't tell a story for each one or this review would be a novella! I see most Yelp reviews are about the food/juice but I don't have much experience buying that. The store always has yummy free samples out on tables and sometimes I will try them and buy a bag of organic, non-GMO chips or whatever snack is on sale. I usually pick up some fresh produce while I'm here and it's good quality. If you are interested in being as healthy as possible, I definitely recommend coming to Dean's! read more

Dean's used to be a pretty nice spot, I can't quite say the same now. As others have mentioned, the customer service is dismal. Prices are also a little high, the normal granola I usually buy for $4.99 is $8 here. A tip to the employees, customers aren't a nuisance at a grocery store, simple human courtesy and kind interaction would go a long way. Likely won't frequent in the future. read more

Dean's Natural Food Market is a excellent place to buy organic food, supplements, and hard to find items that may not be available at Whole Foods Market or Fairways. I had an excellent experience with LuAnne in the vitamin/supplement section. I buy extremely high quality probiotics, which are not usually carried in U.S. stores. Well to my surprise Dean's carried them. I spoke with Lu Anne, whom assured me the product I needed was handled accordingly, otherwise the probiotic would be useless. I ended up trying there nice juice bar, and bought other items. The entire experience was wonderful. Whenever I have friends or colleagues that need certain organic items, I refer them all to Lu Anne at Dean's. Sometimes I need items yesterday, and can not wait on a shipment from Amazon. I wish there was a Dean's in Northern Bergen County, wonderful place! read more

I went in for a quick sandwich. I got a chicken salad on a wrap. They only had pre-made. I got to my destination and my food was almost inedible for $8. The wrap was wet and soggy. There were alfalfa sprouts but they smelled like mold. I tried to scoop out the chicken salad and eat only that but there was very little of it and honestly not great. Won't do that again. read more

Probably the most kick-ass general grocery store I've been to. I wandered in here expecting the usual array of stuff, but there's explicit vegan sandwiches - I got a vegan BLT which was pretty kick ass - and smoothies and lots of other stuff. Although Green's carries organic produce and products similar to what Dean carried when he owned the business customer service has taken a huge dive downward. There are two cashiers who are pleasant and helpful, but the majority display attitudes of disrespect and disregard for customers. Some even become antagonistic. Several other people have mentioned in their reviews that incompetence was a problem and that they had experienced employees with attitude problems during their visits to the store so I have to think it has become a generalized problem. During a recent visit I picked up and ate a sample as I approached the register. It went down the wrong way, and I began coughing to try to get it up. Instead of offering to get a glass of water the man working the register burst into laughter. He continued to laugh while he rang up my items and as I left the store. Another customer noted in his review that this same employee followed him around the store to the point that he felt uneasy and left without finishing his shopping. When I asked another employee (a strong young man) to bag my five items he angrily retorted that he had a customer behind me. When I didn't move away fast enough he became angry again and asked "Is something wrong?". Dean's was great. Green's isn't. I'll be taking my business to HealthFair from now on. read more

Though to some Deans may be small I think it's the perfect size! It holds all the necessities one who eats natural, organic foods would need. Their produce is always stocked and fresh which is usually why we come from Somerville to Basking Ridge. Though Wegmans is closer to us, they are often out of stock on some of our needed organic produce. Not the case with Deans! Help is always there if you need it. Questions are always answered when you ask. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable about the products in the store. Deans is ways introducing us to products that we may over look. They usually have an item of the week they have out on a tray for you to sample. Even better if you love it, it's usually on sale too. I have found two need healthy snacks this way. I think Deans prices are fair! I find that their bag of apples and kale is cheaper than wegmans and shoprite and that's important to my household. Especially since we buy five bunches of kale at a time for eating and juicing. Some of their prices are comparable and some may seem expensive because we may be use to buying non organic items. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. I also like that Dean supports those who locally grow stuff. I remember them having natural locally farmed raw honey. NEVER AGAIN! The "Bella Fresh Tofu Burger" I purchased was on the fridge shelf 2 days post expiration date. The lettuce inside was rotten and the 50 mile round trip drive was not worth a return trip. I contacted their customer service and 11 days later, I've yet to receive a response. I posted a comment on Facebook and it was deleted. I posted a second comment and that too was deleted. Another FB user complained about the filthy juice bar and that post was also deleted. Apparently Dean's only keeps the positive ratings, which explains alot. This place is overrated, too small and more expensive than Whole Foods. I'll keep spending my money at Whole Foods where I am treated as a valued customer. read more

Good but not great. It's nice to have some organic options nearby when I don't want to drive all the way to whole foods but I've been largely disappointed my last two visits here. The produce I purchased was spoiled but I couldn't tell because of the plastic packaging. Celery and strawberries and another time was raspberries and kale. I don't get the sense they have good quality control in the produce section so you need to be extra diligent before you take something home. I finally got to Dean's the other day. I had been meaning to get over here for a while to see what it was all about. To start, the place is incredibly clean and nice looking. It's not as big as your normal supermarket or Trader Joe's but it has about 6-7 aisles of different items. Since it was our first time here, we really didn't know what to expect but we ended up walking out with a few different items. I was surprised to see that this place wasn't obnoxiously overpriced - I even noticed some items that were cheaper than you would see in a supermarket or specialty store. While my wife and I don't eat a strictly "organic" diet, it's definitely a good option to have in town. All of the employees were incredibly friendly and helpful, as well as welcoming. I'm sure that we will come back here from time to time. read more

I had been shopping at this location for awhile as it is close to my job and was a quick run to pick up veggies and fruit at lunchtime. the cashiers I encountered until today, were always very helpful & professional. Today I stopped in at lunchtime. A cashier, who has been there for awhile, and I have seen before but never interacted with, rang my items up. Her attitude while ringing was very nasty, she literally threw my fruit and vegetables unto the conveyor belt with animosity. Both myself and my co-worker noticed the service. Our assumption was that this attitude was racially motivated. In hindsight, I should have spoken up about this handling of my items, but there was a line, I had to get back to work, & did not want to create a scene. She went on to ring the customer behind me with a normal attitude and handling of his items. I asked a staffer for the manager's phone #, & being a small store, naturally, this cashier found out I was going to call & decided to give the manager a heads up, assuming my call was about a coupon question I asked her. I called the store manager who was expecting a call and told the manager about the treatment, she said she would speak with the cashier, however, the manager never said sorry. From this disgusting customer service experience, I am now turned off from this store and will do my runs at wholefoods which is not far away & on my way home, and i no longer recommend this store. read more

I am so grateful to deans in Basking Ridge. Their customer service goes above and beyond! Whenever I order something or need something they don't have they call me and keep me up to date about the status and are always pleasant. The variety for that size store is pretty good with lots of eating lifestyle options. They are creative and are easy to collaborate with for ordering holiday meals. There is only one gentlemen there who knows how to make a chocolate strawberry vegan smoothie that is out of the world so get there while he's there!
