The fish patty was cooked through and the other ingredients plus a warm bun were successful. The spinach was actually more my speed than the lettuce would have been. Having been to the Merrimon location, I was terribly disappointed in the service and quality of food here. Ordered the same bowl in both locations - a world of difference. My bowl was very sparse ... Today, I stopped by mid morning for an iced Americano. There were two other customers seated, so not a busy time. The person who took my order did not make my coffee, but waited for the other person, who assumed she'd made it. Once he started working on it, they were so busy chatting and distracted that I waited way too long and to add insult to injury, during all their chatter, once he finished making my coffee, he just placed it on the counter, hidden from my view by the coffee machine and did not let me know. The service & ambiance are fine, but the food is subpar for the price point. I get that it's supposed to be healthier food, but it's just not done well in my opinion. My partner and I went here on a Sunday morning. I got the Good Life Bowl which is their vegan bowl. I typically love a tofu scramble, but the best way I can describe it is that it tasted like someone who is not vegan made it (which is likely true). The flavors and seasonings need some re-working. The rest of the bowl features various veggies, black beans, and rice. The rice tasted fishy, was too mushy, but also had mixed in clumps of crunchy rice. The sweet potatoes and other veggies tasted alright. There was a tiny amount of avocado salsa that could not save this food. Overall, I was disappointed and I could only force myself to eat about 1/4 of it. My partner got the Cali egg & veg sandwich. The sandwich was very small and the bottom peace of bread was totally soggy when he received it. He was unhappy with his meal as well. Save your money. This place is not worth the hype. read more

This spot came highly recommended to me by locals as the go-to breakfast place. The oatmilk latte was good and very foamy, no complaints there. I got the southwest omelette for breakfast that I thought was so-so, nothing to write home about. It's a bit pricy for just breakfast food but so is everything else around downtown Asheville. Went for breakfast here while in town. Loved the fact that their food was all organic and all things that we enjoy eating. My husband had the oatmeal which was a huge serving and he enjoyed each bite- but was definitely more than he could eat. I had avocado toast with eggs. The flavor was delicious - I just would have liked to have seen a little more avocado on the toast for that price. I also had a chai and honestly I didn't enjoy it. It tasted mainly like warm milk so that was disappointing. There were other items we would like to try there and the quality of the food was spot on. The Green Sage Cafe is conveniently located in the middle of Downtown, and it's a nice place to grab a bite and hang out with wifi. I went twice this week while in town, and they just expanded their menu again after the hurricane with some great vegetarian options, like bowls and salads. When I first came here, I tried the TLT Tempeh wrap, and wow was it great! The marinade they use on the tempeh is really good and full of flavor. Also, I never go for a slaw, but this is the best slaw I have ever had. I love the ginger flavor! It's so great seeing a place get creative with their veggie offerings! The second time I came, I just had one of the iced teas - the elderflower hibiscus - which was very good. I appreciate they don't mix in the sweetener or any syrups unless you request it. I also had the chocolate walnut cookie, which was amazing. Service was also friendly :) I will definitely be coming here again soon! read more

Hubby & I stayed at the Kimpton next door and decided to try out local places for brunch. Hands down, one of the best brunch/breakfast diners we've tried. We were so satisfied with our meals, service and kindness from the cashier & employees! It's located across from the kimpton and ac hotel. Wouldn't recommend. Waited 15 minutes gluten free oatmeal on the first visit. Had to ask staff where my meal was the first time I visited. But when it arrived it tasted good. Any restaurant can have a bad day so didn't see the delay in service as a problem. Went back second morning. Order oatmeal and same thing happened. Everyone around me got fresh hot food in a timely manner. To-go patrons came and went, my companion received and ate breakfast order while I waited for oatmeal. Yuuummmm, just my kind'a place! I saw this while searching for places with breakfast bowls and came the morning before my flight out of town back home after a girl's weekend. I was staying nearby and was easily able to walk - otherwise it's going to be street parking or pay for a local garage. I arrived just a few minutes after they opened and ordered a coconut milk iced latte and a Huckleberry Bowl to dine in. The latte was out quickly and the coffee had a wonderful flavor to it. Super good. Didn't need to add anything else, just enjoyed it plain. My bowl - SO good. So pretty (see pic) but also the coconut chia pudding was a nice texture, not slimy, and slightly sweet. The granola was crispy and delicious and paired very well with the pudding and the blueberries which were also slightly sweet and seemed to have been soaked in something to make them more moist. I added a bit of local honey and it was heaven! If I'm ever in Asheville again - I'm going to hunt this spot down! I'm not much of a breakfast or lunch-out person, so it's rare that I hit up places that close before 6pm, but there we were on a road trip through NC and Green Sage was open. They have a variety of options, not solely vegan, which is good for those of us with friends who shy away from 100% plant-based spots. Because I'm not used to having so many options, decision fatigue set in (what a luxury) and out of the array of bowls, smoothies, sandwiches and salads, I settled on a zen bowl, which is filled to the brim with fresh, delicious and healthy proteins and vegetables and a miso dressing. The kind of bowl that makes one want to conquer the world... or the road. I also devoured a ginger cookie that was absolutely perfect. It's counter service and they will bring your food to the table. Employees are kind and helpful. The space has good light and you can watch all the action on the main drag of Asheville from one of the tables lining the huge windows. When I first moved to a Asheville, I loved green sage. Like many things, the prices have risen and it's become a little bit touristy. I appreciate that they remain true to their natural and healthy foundation, and they tend to source a good amount locally. I ordered a BLT with chips. You can upgrade the size for a dollar but nothing really seem that appealing to me. I'm pretty picky about my fries and I was saving this for later so the other sides didn't make sense. The bacon was incredibly chewy and thick and tough. I like that it was local, but it was incredibly difficult and kind of uncomfortable to eat. For a BLT, there was no lettuce. Maybe I read it wrong? The sweet potato chips were actually quite delightful. Especially the ones that had a little bit of chewiness mixed with a crunch. I feel like the portion was nice as well. I veered from my normal path to get a rap, but I think in the future I will just stick with my salad self. I also could have been happier if I just gotten a farm burger homemade veggie patty because that means you around $10 or less wow this wrap cost me 15 with tip. Yow. Inside was really nice and bustling. The counter service was incredibly kind. I would describe them as super friendly and patient. The food (2/5) was okay at best. I didn't try everything so other options could be better. Love potion smoothie wasnt as sweet as I would have hoped for. Salmon burger was good. The aïoli paired well with the burger. We did well for our last meal in a 3-night stay in Asheville here at Green Sage Cafe in downtown, across the street from our hotel and, if you're already downtown it can't possibly be far. There is PLENTY for vegetarians as well as gluten "sensitive" (as it says on their menu) folks and everything on the menu is highlighted with V or GS so it's easy to spot what you can have if you have one or both of those diets. I had the basic breakfast sandwich with real cheddar cheese and tempeh bacon. This was hearty and delicious and I couldn't help myself but to add a side of root hash into the mix because, well, potatoes. The people I was dining with were naturally attracted to the root hash on my plate and kept digging in for more tries of it. It was all good. My life enjoyed the Pura Vida Bowl. The eggs on top were perfectly cooked and had a beautiful color to them. The coffee was also top-notch. Perfectly strong and served in a real mug just the way I wanted it. (And my wife enjoyed her turmeric latte as well.) There is a ton more to try for vegetarians and gluten-free folks so this would definitely be on the regular rotation for us if we lived in Asheville. For around $15, this was a decent sized meal and very filling. During peak hours, the line gets a little wild as there's not a ton of room right inside and this is a counter service restaurant. Great spot downtown to grab a quick and easy brunch. I do recommend seeing if you can order ahead if you are getting take-out, because I did have to awkwardly stand around waiting about 15 minutes for the avolox sandwich to be ready. I got the huckelberry bowl, which is coconut chia seed pudding topped with granola, banana, and blueberry. The pudding itself was so tasty with the flavor of the coconut milk making it lightly sweet. My normal breakfast stop was closed so wandering around downtown, I found Green Sage and decided to try it out. Ordering is done at the counter and they bring the food and beverages to your table if you are dining in. I was pleasantly surprised with the COVID policies. It has been the only restaurant I've been in that is actually following the state guideline that masks must be worn at all times except when actively eating or drinking. But better than just the sign on the table they were actually enforcing it too! The number allowed inside was limited too and I noticed there was some counting going on to make sure they were in compliance. The tables were marked where guests could sit and which tables weren't being used. As much as I loved the COVID protocols the service and the food were amazing too. I have trouble making up my mind what to order so the cashier had patience with me. She even helped me figure out where to sit and cleaned the table again. I ordered the pancakes and added blueberries. When they were brought to the table the pancakes were larger than the plate and full of blueberries. They definitely didn't skimp on the berries :-) I ordered two pancakes as I wasn't sure of the size but next time would just do the single. Although I plan to try something else on the menu next time as I was watching some of what those at other tables ordered. read more

I came in for a decaf Americano and they remade it for me a couple of times, but it still is incredibly flavorless espresso. There is really good espresso available in Asheville for decaf, and I would recommend that they switch to the counterculture brand or one of the local brand that actually has very rich, intense and amazing flavor for decaf. A lot of people just can't just too much caffeine so it would be appreciated to have a really good decaf available. read more
