Orange blossom poppyseed braid
Kimberly M.

While the service was good and the space beautiful, the pastry disappointed. Overpriced with very little flavor, the Orange Blossom Poppyseed braid is almost &9 but there's not a hint of orange. Part of the pastry had salt on the outside. Cold brew was nice.

I don't know what else to say, other than OWL - regardless of location - is simply the best. They deliver perfectly made, naturally leavened breads and pastries. They are refined and exquisite but earthy and inviting - not stuffy and pretentious. I always visit when I am in town and there is always a line of guests. I always buy their porridge bread - it makes the best toast - but all of their breads are wonderful. I love their variety of croissants, cookies, danish and occasionally they have their pasteis de nata. They sell good coffee too. Oh and I love their quiche!

Old World Leavened- OWL Bakery is not just a place for good bread and pastries, they have an amazing selection of of beverages as well. We thoroughly enjoy the dirty chai's, with a double shot. We always pick up a country loaf and what ever the daily bread special is. The staff are friendly and ready to help, even with a larger customer volume.

Not a coffee drinker but the wife is. She needs it to function fully so we swung by here in the morning before a day of thrifting around town. Was SUPER busy Saturday morning but staff were firing on all cylinders. Grabbed a few sweet things that looked really good. My favorite was the beautiful berry creme tart. Wife enjoyed the cookie & chocolate croissant. All priced reasonably too. Parking is tight but they are quick if you are grab & going. Good pastries cant speak to coffee.

Amazing pastries! Cardamom bun, almond croissant citrus danish & ham 'n cheese croissant

My sweet tooth led me to the Owl Bakery. The pastries were excellent & very well made. I also got an Americano with their house made rose cardamom syrup...Yum! The interior is a cute cozy spot perfect for meeting friends or for doing some remote work/ class work. Parking can be a bit of a challenge in the area but trust me, it'll be worth it!

Cardamom buns are the best item to get here! They are soft, fluffy, yet also have a decent denseness. They are a mix between a croissant and a cinnamon roll, and the sweetness is very subtle. If you like bread, this will be your favorite bread item.

OWL BAKERY IS A REAL HOOT | after visiting the first location in West Asheville during COVID, we stopped at the North Asheville for a coffee and pastry. The parking here is awful - it shares a lot with a rehab center and parking is super limited. Pastries are fantastic - from a classic chocolate or almond croissant to a savory strudel or gougere... always very flaky and buttery. The coffee menu is limited but has everything you could need. I love their orange blossom cappuccino! Get in early to make sure you get to choose from their full display. OWL bakery is definitely my go-to baked good stop in Asheville, either location!

Menu

Great fresh breads on a daily rotating special. They make their own coffee syrups and croissants and other pastries.

The fresh blueberry croissant was flaky, flavorful and absolutely delicious!

The pastries are amazing! Literally the BEST. Nice vibe. Would be even cooler if it was dog friendly.

Hole in the wall little bakery with delicious coffee. The real kicker was the homemade pastries that made our mouth water just looking at them through the glass. We did not get any as we had just ate breakfast but wish we did! Will definitely be going back for more!

May have been one of my top five favorite croissants ever! Highly recommend the onion and cheddar croissant. My earl grey tea was loose leafed and lovely. I am happy to report a class act petit déjeuner! Merci!!

Pastries!

I don't know why I slept on this place for so long. You walk in and the smell just draws you in more. We got a coffee walnut pastry, an almond rose croissant, and a ...I think it was called a morning bun for the kiddo. That almond rose croissant is AMAZING yall. I was not ready! The lady at the front suggested it when I looked lost haha. Eager to come back and try more out :)

Arrived on Saturday morning, place was very busy. Stood in line only to find out that there was a very limited selection and the baked items were by my standards expensive. I bought the 4 items pictured and it was $26. All items were very good, however NOT $26 good.

A little pricey, but good vibes, delicious pastries, and toasty drinks. Tough parking, so walk if you can.

Liberty House Coffee and Cafe has lots…read moreof gorgeous outdoor seating (both under a covered patio and out in the sun) and great indoor spots too. The baristas and staff are beyond friendly. There are creative dishes and drinks too. I came with my best friend for breakfast. I enjoyed their seasonal lemon latte. She got a cappuccino she liked. We shared the unique sourdough pancakes, they were good, but something we probably wouldn't order again. I loved how wholesome my avocado toast was. On weekends there is a long line leading up to the ordering counter, but it wasn't too long of a wait. Once you order and get your number, you find a table that works for you. When you're done you bus your table. There is a lot of street parking out front. I highly recommend checking this spot out.

Outdoor seating is where we've gone both times here, and it was great for a group and for dogs. The staff service is amazing, and food comes out pretty quickly. Coffee selection is great--the Vietnamese cold brew is my favorite so far--and they always have fresh squeezed juice as an option, too. The sourdough pancake is the star of the show, even though I haven't actually ordered it for myself yet. I'm not a sweets person, and the pancake is savory and just a little sweet in the perfect way. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, thick and able to hold up to syrup without getting soggy. This review is combined from my first visit in September 2024 and my most recent in early April 2026. My wife got the pancake both times. I got the croque madame the first time, and the breakfast sandwich (sausage, egg and cheddar on an English muffin) the second time. The croque madame was phenomenal. The breakfast sandwich was good, but not my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of cheddar--especially sharp cheddar--on a breakfast sandwich, and the tomato aioli, caramelized onions, and the actual sausage patty, were a little too sweet for my liking. I could see others liking it, though, so definitely worth a try. I'll definitely be back to work my way through the menu a bit more. My cousin swears by the avocado toast, so that might be next!

Tucked away near the end of Broadway, Rowan possesses a warm and understated charm. The soft lighting and calm atmosphere create a cozy ambiance that exudes thoughtfully curated design, while the gentle hum of conversation and espresso machines add a touch of life to the space. It's the kind of coffee shop where rainy afternoons feel like a cinematic scene from your favorite film. Recently, I met a date here, as Rowan seemed like the perfect setting for such a memorable beginning. After we greeted one another with an intimate kiss just outside the doors of Rowan Coffee, I observed a Duchenne smile flash across her face before we embarked on what became an emotionally recursive, psychologically layered Asheville odyssey, as we explored Malaprop's Bookstore, the Grove Arcade, Wall Street, Pack Square Park, I.M. Pei's connection to structures outside both the Louvre and the Asheville Art Museum, French Broad Chocolate, Cúrate, and the South Slope. The coffee at Rowan is truly exceptional. Each cup is thoughtfully crafted, balanced, and served with care by passionate baristas. It can be rather challenging to find premium cold brew these days, but the cold brew on offer here is some of the best I've found in Asheville. Whether you're enjoying a cappuccino, catching up with a friend, or studying/working near the back, Rowan provides the perfect atmosphere for unwinding and savoring the moment. My date ordered a mocha that morning, and based on the enthusiasm with which it disappeared, I'd be remiss not to mention it. The mochas are so good here that girls do circle back. And if you don't, you're missing out. What truly sets Rowan apart is its comfort. It's an intimate space without being overcrowded; it's stylish without being pretentious. It encourages conversation, reflection, and even accidental three-hour stays.

The bar itself is beautiful, with an impressive selection of spirits and a menu full of creative cocktails featuring ingredient combinations you'd never expect to work together -- but somehow they absolutely do.
