In the search for a coffee shop, not much was open on a Saturday at 8am. Lucky for us we ran into some locals, who quickly directed us towards Old Europe Pastries. That's where everyone was at 8 am on Saturday morning. The cozy coffee shops with indoor and outdoor seating was conveniently located. We ordered a couple of coffees, some lattes, and picked up some croissants. Everything was great! The service was exceptional. It's been quite a few minutes since we have been to Old Europe Pastries. Their new space is stunning. We haven't been since they moved and the new place will blow your socks off. Staff so very sweet and helpful. They had a wall of team member's fur babies around a sign about an April 7th fundraiser for Asheville Humane Society. Pooped in for my daily matcha latte and decaf latte. Enjoyed the matcha. I prefer nothing but matcha and milk in mine. If you want any syrups put in you'll have to ask. Decaf latte texturally was great the bean flavor wasn't my vibe. On the day, we were leaving town we wanted to get a box of goodies for our sweet family members who had taken care of one of our pups so that we could get away for the weekend. The team was so marvelous in helping us put together this bountiful box of goodies. Which our family members immediately opened and enjoyed nibbles of all of the different flavors and items. We originally found them when one of our family members was having health challenges and could not have dairy or gluten. They have such a wonderfully inclusive assortment of treats for everyone in the family. Including vegan. Enjoyed people watching sitting on the patio and the dog scene is awesome. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was very crowded - we did manage to grab a table tho. The line moves at a consistent speed. The inside is cute but small, I appreciate the staff especially their coffee barista who was working NON-STOP. My cortado was satisfying. We also got the chai and maple latte and it was good. We were in Asheville for only 24 hours and craving something sweet after dinner. It was on the later side so our options were limited but Old Europe Pastries looked like a great option that was walking distance from where we had dinner so we decided to give it a try. All of the options looked great and I had a hard time narrowing down my options (did I want fruity or chocolately?) so I went with both--a lemon berry torte and the Black Diamond cake (chocolate sponge cake filled with a chocolate cream and dipped in chocolate) so I could have a few bites of each of my cravings and both were excellent and hit the spot! My husband also got a matcha and tiramisu. I didn't try the matcha but the tiramisu was excellent. Many of the creamier/cheese fillings were made with a sweet farmers-esque cheese which I loved. Growing up in a Polish household a lot of our desserts were based with a similar cheese so it felt very familiar and comforting. The space is cute as well. My only complaint was that at the end of the night the tables were a bit on the sticky side and staff was a bit on the aloof side, but otherwise it was a wonderful experience. read more

The workers were friendly and the inside of the shop was clean. This would've been a 5/5 but sadly the drinks were not good at all. I ordered a latte and found the coffee to be super bitter and unpleasant tasting. The chai latte my sister ordered was super watery and too spicy. Enjoyed a quick cup of coffee and sweet treat here. I met a friend around 11am and we shared some cake and macarons. I got the bruleed, banana, chocolate and cookie dough. The eclair pastry was tender and the filling was creamy and not overly sweet, with the chocolate drizzle it was the best eclair I have eaten in the states. We ordered vegan lemon poppyseed bread, chocolate chip cookie, black diamond cake, and 4 macarons (lemon, vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry pink peppercorn). Decent cookie, nothing special or to go back again for. It was thin and chocolatey. Loaf was decent, needed more lemon to live up to its name. Black diamond was not for me. The cake didn't have the right texture. It was too mousse-y to be cake. And the flavor of berry wasn't a good match. Ganache also didn't taste good so overall did not enjoy eating and will not order again. On the other hand, 3 out of 4 macarons were good. Strawberry pink peppercorn, which I worried about the most, turned out to be my favorite. Lemon was good, could've used a bit more flavor to punch through but no complaints. Vanilla was classic. Chocolate was my least favorite which was disappointing. Couldn't put my finger on what was missing but wasn't great. Overall the service was good since we had questions being our first time so will return to try new things. read more

First of all, be prepared for a line!!!! But baby it is soooo worth it! It is a cute and quaint dessert bar but it's pretty tight! The amount of different desserts from cheesecake, to cakes, macaroons and coffee made me feel like I had been transported to dessert heaven! So we arrived and were in line for about 30 minutes. But the look on the faces of the people who were sitting and eating their desserts made me super excited! So we ordered a Raspberry Cheesecake, Key Lime Cheesecake and a slice of Chocolate Truffle Cake. Every slice was substantial. They not only all looked delicious but tasted amazing. My favorite was the Raspberry Cheesecake. It was super creamy and not too sweet. I loved that you could taste both the sweetness of the raspberries and tanginess of the cream cheese. I also enjoyed the chocolate cake. It had a dark chocolate coating on top and 2 chocolate cake layers! My only wish is that they had been a bit more moist but the flavor was intense, decadent, and rich! Lastly was the Key Lime Cheesecake... I was not a fan! It was waaayyyy too tart for me. However, my partner enjoyed it. Oh my Vanilla Caramel Latte was delicious and super hot like I like it!! Let me just say it was incredibly difficult to choose which dessert I wanted. Stopped by for some more caffeine and a pasty. I got the sweet cream croissant which was amazing! They had a salted maple latte on special and I just wasn't a fan. Maybe the soy milk deterred the maple flavor but it was mostly a salty latte. The staff were super nice and helpful and complimented our choices of pastries. The deco was super cute and rustic. I don't have a gluten intolerance, but I noticed something disturbing about the pastry case that would likely cause someone with a gluten intolerance to skip ordering food - they mixed the gluten free and gluten containing items both on the same tray and neighboring trays. Someone with a gluten intolerance would not eat a pastry due to risk of contamination. I'd recommend moving all gluten free items to the top shelves and keep the items containing gluten to the lower shelves to reduce cross-contamination of the food while in the case as well as when cleaning the case. read more

I can't say enough about this lovely, little cafe that we discovered on our trip to Asheville last week. We liked it enough that we came back for a second time in our week in the mountains. There were so many gluten-free dessert options. We tried four different cakes over our two visits. The peanut butter cheesecake was my favorite. I also enjoyed the whisky chai cocktail. The coffee options were also impressive; I liked the espresso so much that we sought out the roaster to buy their beans (Dynamite in Black Mountain). This is a great coffee shop on Broadway in downtown Asheville. The coffee is fantastic and the pastry items amazing. It is that perfect chewy but crispy cookie that is somehow slightly dense but also light and then gives you a buttery finish with the perfect amount of almond paste for that special almondy hit....and the crunch from the bits of almonds give it the right blend of textures.
