Zuma Coffee House is a cool little place to stop in for a cup of coffee, tea, smoothie, milkshake, or cold drink and a bite to eat. Open for breakfast and lunch, Zuma is the center of town. You can feel locals and visitors coming together here. Zuma exudes the cool, relaxed vibe of Marshall. When you're in the area, stop in a kick back for a bit.

This gets five stars for being an excellent, cool, art cafe in freaking Marshall, NC!!!!!! It is a really really small cute town in the mountains of NC. North of Asheville by about 40 minutes, I think. Tiny downtown with a culture of bluegrass and a few galleries. Zumma serves counter culture coffee brand from Durham. EXCELLENT coffee. Has good sandwhiches, a neat space, and music. It is a community hub for a small community of neat people that seems to be attracting more and more interest of travelers.

Friendly staff, decent food, good drinks, nice atmosphere. You don't get a lot of food for what you spend though.

It's a beautiful location at the heart of Downtown Marshall, with indoor and outdoor seating. When I arrived here a couple of weekends ago, I was dismayed to find that ownership had changed hands. Alas, boasting the same menu, reasonable pricing, and a still engaging and friendly staff - it still felt like a comfortable and welcoming place to be. The flavor and portions of the servings has always been above par, and that hasn't changed. I don't know if they have the same staff in the kitchen, but the food still tastes like a meal you'd have at home with family. I met one of the new owners, and she made me feel like family, and offered me one of the incredible scones she made that morning. I look forward to her other baked items that I overheard will be sharing some space at Main Street Cafe. The scone was a 10/10. With so much changing around us everyday, it can be especially hard when something attached to so many memories goes through an evolution as well. Sometimes changes can improve things, and I feel like, in this instance, what still felt like home will also be a place where I can enjoy some incredible baked goods, and maybe more. I will be returning for sure.

Second, we ordered two things - a chicken wrap and chicken burrito bowl. 30 minutes later, still no signs of food and barely a server in sight. Don't know what kind of business they are running here. If you have time to wait, then maybe eat here but otherwise stay away.

The Couch, the Cookie, and the Conundrum…read more Most people visit French Broad Chocolate Lounge for the chocolate. I apparently visited for an unplanned graduate seminar in attachment theory, anticipatory attraction, and the staggering complexity of human interaction. Nestled in the heart of downtown Asheville, French Broad Chocolate Lounge remains one of the city's most charming spots to linger. The atmosphere is warm, intimate, and inviting with just enough ambient buzz to feel alive while still allowing for meaningful conversation. On this particular visit, after a memorable lunch elsewhere downtown, my companion enthusiastically suggested we return for dessert. Upon arrival, she immediately spotted an enormous chocolate chip cookie, pointed at it, and declared, "I want this." When I suggested getting my own, she insisted we share one instead. Naturally, we found ourselves on the now-famous leather couch. What followed was equal parts delightful, bewildering, and deeply human. The cookie itself was excellent--warm, indulgent, and perfectly suited for sharing. The couch was comfortable enough to encourage conversation, contemplation, and, apparently, existential reflection. Somewhere between bites of chocolate and discussions of life, relationships, and the curious ways emotionally intelligent people can accidentally tie themselves into knots, I found myself participating in what became one of the more psychologically layered afternoons of my life. French Broad excels at creating an atmosphere where people slow down. You arrive intending to enjoy dessert and somehow end up discussing vulnerability, possibility, timing, and whether meaningful connections unfold linearly or in loops. The chocolate is exceptional. The ambiance is cozy. The seating encourages lingering. And should you find yourself sharing a cookie with someone intriguing, be advised that the afternoon may become considerably more memorable than anticipated. Finally, when it comes to cozy confection shops, girls do circle back. And if you don't, you're missing out.
