This is my go to Chinese place. Food has great flavor and the service is always fast. Wish it was a bit closer to home!

I order a pint of shrimp and Chinese veg it was very good lots of shrimp in it and I couldn't eat all so save for next day and it was even better. Excellent service, very helpful and great sense of humor. The egg drop soup was superb and fresh. We ordered crab Rangoon were bragged about, and they lived up to their fame. We ordered General Tsoas Chicken and sesame chicken thank were very good. The portions were ample, and we enjoyed the leftovers. After being in the area for nearly 2 years I decided to try Green Tea for a second time. I was hoping my second visit would turn out much better, but it didn't. So I thought it was time to give a review. I've noticed several people find the chinese food to be good, but both of my experiences ended with bland food. My go to chinese dishes are pot stickers / steamed dumplings, egg rolls, shrimp mei fun, or chicken lo mein. So I have taste history for comparison. Both times the food (shrimp mei fun and chicken lo mein) was very bland while clearly tasting the cooking oil. Some noodles were a bit dry as well. I didn't find the restaurant particularly clean either. The glass doors were really dirty and clouded with finger prints. Unfortunately, that first impression set the tone. read more

Decided to try this restaurant per recommendation from Angela Bowman. Tiny little restaurant, but that doesn't matter. It was clean. The food was fresh and came out quickly. And the service was very good. We ordered hot and sour soup, which wasn't spicy, but had a decent amount of ingredients. I tasted good. We also had crab Rangoon. It wasn't shaped like most. But they were stuffed full of cream cheese and crab and were delicious. We split the chicken and vegetables. It was light, delicious and very fresh. They have lots of flavors of Boba tea. I didn't try any, but I know that a lot of people do enjoy this. This is a nice addition to State Street in New Albany. It is hidden behind Bob Evans. read more

By now we all understand that Chinese food in America isn't authentic (which most of us, in varying degrees, are thankful). We've order take-out from Green Tea a couple of times now. Each dish has been hot, fresh, flavorful and properly proportioned. My husband is a fan of General Tso's chicken and theirs wasn't dry or overly breaded. Our spring rolls have not been greasy and the egg drop soup was delicious (not over-salted). Phone and in-person service has always been VERY polite and prompt too. First time lunch at Green Tea. First and foremost, anytime you can get a decent lunch platter for $5.60, how can you complain unless the food is just horrible. I'm happy to report, not only was the price right, the food is pretty good too! All lunch specials include the entree, fried rice and an egg roll. Yes all this for $5.60. My wife had the Kung Po Chicken. She thought the meal was very tasty and the portion generous. I had the War Su Gar. Very nice portions. I felt my entree was not bad but just ok, once again, for $5.60 I'm not complaining! The portions of fried rice are huge, the egg roll is a little smaller than most I've had, but good. I had to try the cup of Hot and Sour soup as an appetizer. I loved the soup, it was very good and spiced just right. Additionally the price of a cup of the soup is $2.35. Their other soups are just $2.00 for a cup. All soups are also available by the bowl. I would return for a full bowl of Hot and Sour $3.75. The menu is huge and regular menu prices look very reasonable to me. The Lunch Special prices are good Monday thru Saturday 11am to 3pm. read more

First time we ordered from here it was good but today they messed up BAD. My online order was correct, even emailed a confirmation with everything right, then we get home and the receipt on the bag had the correct name but slightly different food. (example: szechuan beef was changed to szechuan chicken etc.) On top of all that, the food in the bag was different than both emailed and bag receipts. Two orders of spring rolls... they gave us one order and a bag of crispy topping stuff?? When we picked up the food I asked the lady if the sweet and sour sauce was already in the bag and she said no but there's packets of fish sauce and I said I wanted sweet and sour so she said FINE and went and got it. WTF!!! They were closed by the time we got home and realized so I guess I'll go back tomorrow and try to get a refund. Dinner ruined. read more

How disappointing!! Was so excited that a Chinese restaurant had opened back up after the shutdowns. My family and I ordered $60 worth of different apps and entrees and none of them had any taste whatsoever. I ordered everything medium heat and there was zero! Zero heat. Zero flavor. Well, I had heard about this place, but did not try it until last month, when I went there to celebrate my birthday. I ordered the Orange Chicken. Much to my surprise, the dish was spicy hot--I could see the pepper flakes that the dish contained. Now maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the Orange Chicken would be a sweet dish, not a hot and spicy one. In fact, my daughter who was dining with me and had also ordered it, mentioned that she didn't remember the dish being hot the last time she ate it. Maybe they had an inexperienced cook filling in for the regular guy/gal that night? Wanting to give the place the benefit of the doubt, I went there to get some take out a week or two later. I ordered the Lemon Chicken, a dish I fell in love with many years ago. Well, unless I hear that this place has changed cooks, that will likely be the last time I patronize this restaurant, because the Lemon Chicken was even hotter than the Orange Chicken! Past experience with this favorite dish, tells me that Lemon Chicken is NOT supposed to be spicy-hot. To sum this up, if you like your Chinese food to set your mouth on fire, you might like the food. If not, you might want to tell them to hold the pepper when you order. I was so disappointed after hearing so many good things about this place. I hope, for their sake, they fired that cook before he did some damage to their reputation. It's not fancy or frilly, but it is inviting and sort of homey in a restaurant kind of way, but the main reason to visit Green Tea Chinese Restaurant isn't for the decor, it's for the food and, for my money, they are serving up some of the best "Americanized Chinese" food not only in southern Indiana, but in the whole of Kentuckiana. Good, sit-down Chinese restaurants used to be pretty easy to find, but that sadly ended when most of them decided to cut costs and become buffets. Gladly, Green Tea shows zero signs of buffet food or ever even wanting to serve food as fair to middling as buffet style Chinese. They served me one of the hottest (temperature-wise) roast pork egg rolls I think I've ever had and it was delicious, the filling having the exact proportion of meat and veggies to cabbage to prevent any one single ingredient from taking over. The outside was a crispy, golden brown and was remarkably grease-free compared to some others I've tried. The flavors inside were so good, duck sauce wasn't even necessary, but I'm a duck sauce junkie and it only served to make a great egg roll that much better! My wonton soup was super hot and delicious, as well, the well-seasoned broth virtually overflowing with plump, tender wontons. Finally, the main course; one of my Chinese favorites, Orange Beef. Back in the day, I used to be able to get Orange Beef (or Chicken) and Sesame dishes in which the exterior of the meat was crispy and really well caramelized, lending an extra dimension to the already exotic flavor of the dish. This has not been the case up until I went Green Tea. THIS was old-school Orange Beef, the tender pieces of meat coated in a flavorful and well crisped shell that held up exceptionally well to the sticky sweet-and-spicy orange flavored sauce. It was fresh and delicious and the only thing I will change the next time I order it will be to bump the spice up just a bit to give it a bit more fire, but overall, the best execution I've had of this dish in probably ten or more years. Overall, I'd say if you live in southern Indiana, or even across the bridge in Louisville, seek out Green Tea Chinese Restaurant for some good, old-fashioned Chinese comfort food. Oh, and lest I fail to mention it, the staff and cooks were all A-1 in my book, helpful and attentive without being overbearing or pushy. Second visit on a Tuesday evening. Place was surprisingly crowded for a mid-week evening. Happy to report the food is still kick ass. Had the pork-fried rice this evening and it had that nice, sort of charred flavor unique to only really good Chinese places! Kudos to the chefs and the wait staff again, as well! Third time here at Green Tea and it is still da bomb as far as Chinese food goes. I'll go out on a limb and say that, as far as I'm concerned, they have THE best Chinese food on either side of the bridge currently! Green Tea was recommended to me by a friend who works in New Albany and has eaten there a few times. My go to place is China Bistro on Charlestown, but I am always open to trying new things. The thing that caught my attention about this particular place was that they have bubble tea- that is always a plus for me. Green Tea is located in a small shopping center off of state street in the general vicinity of both Qdoba and Bob Evans. Their sign has bright green lettering so it is pretty hard to miss. Upon entering, I had to look at and around the main menu in order to find the bubble tea menu- it is written on a piece of printer paper off to the side. They don't have too many flavors- maybe five or six, and the drink was served to me in a sticky cup without the normal plastic covering. I want to say they probably don't have the machine that dispenses the plastic for the cup. Not a big deal, it just struck me as odd to receive a boba drink with the lid of a soft drink cup. I ended up ordering a General Tso's combination with white rice because it was dinner time and the lunch specials were already over. I also got two orders of the steamed dumplings, which were $4.96-not a bad price. I got everything to go and had a 30 minute drive home. Upon getting home and digging in, I wasn't really impressed with the food. The steamed dumplings had big chunks of onion, and I normally like onion- but not in my steamed dumplings. The General Tso's chicken was your run of the mill kind, breading and a sticky sweet sauce with a garlicky aftertaste- good, but not great by any means. I could get it anywhere. To be honest, I don't think I would come back here. I drive half an hour so that I can enjoy the steamed dumplings at China Bistro because they are the best I've ever had- but I don't think I will do the same for Green Tea. I could drive five minutes down the road and get the same sort of food for the same price. read more

I love this place. Their Signapore dish on rice noodles is awesome. The staff is very attentive and super kid friendly. The staff even had their own children there at a table coloring and playing. I helped clean up after my one of my kiddos decided the floor was hungrier than he was. They were super sweet and made me stop and took over. My husband loves their general tsos. All their dishes I've tried have been the right amount of spicy though you can request they make them spicier or milder if you want.
