First, the restaurant is pleasantly decorated, counter service and both the owners are super friendly. They have eight tables. We ordered two dishes, dined in; 1) Singapore Mei Fen or 星州米粉 deserves great mark, I have been to Singapore multiple times and had this numerous times, it's remarkably close. 2) Hunan Triple, very taste and has a mild sauce, I'm sure they can spiced it up for you, this dish won't disappoint you. We also had hot Chinese jasmine tea, they actually use loose leaf tea, not tea bags! Perfect for the dishes. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Monday, busy with carry outs orders. 3 tables were occupied. It's hard for us to find a Chinese restaurant we really like. Back in Michigan there was one in the town we lived in that set the bar pretty high. We thought we found "our" Chinese restaurant with Peking City Bistro, but that place is now a disaster. China King is OK, but it's bare-bones Chinese with no atmosphere. Enter Happy Dragon. Just a few miles away and nestled inside Tyler Village, I think we've finally found the place we can call "our" Chinese restaurant. It's not full service, but it's "order at the counter and we'll bring it out to you" service. The place is minimally but tastefully decorated, and doesn't sport the kind of immersive/overwhelming menu that some Chinese restaurants do. Sometimes having fewer things to chose from is better. Food delivery was less than ten minutes and was served steaming hot...and it was SO effing good. Honestly, I don't think it took me ten minutes to finish my meal. I wasn't in a rush, I was just fungry, and this hit. the. spot. My only issue (if you could call it that) was that it didn't measure up to the spice level I ordered, but since it was our first visit I didn't have any kind of heat gauge to go by. Drinks come from cans/bottles. No fountain drinks, so drink price are per-bottle. If you're looking for a refill, reach in your pocket. When I eat an egg roll I like to add some hot mustard because, hey, it's been a while since I felt fire travel up my nostrils to the back of my head. I prefer a store-made hot mustard and Happy Dragon only has the little pre-made packets that look like a bad idea and desperation. As a result, and as much as I tried to use, I wasn't able set my scalp on fire. With the demise of Peking City Bistro, Happy Dragon is where we'll be getting our Chinese food fix. Happy Dragon has quickly become our new go-to Chinese spot since we've moved. Typically many Chinese places will taste the same to me, but here I can definitely taste better quality food. Their fried rice is above average, and very good! I'd recommend the General Tso's, as it is a good-sized portion and tastes great. The restaurant itself seems to be well-kept. Was hoping for great things but was totally disappointed. Ordered shrimp with cashew nuts, sesame chicken, and crab rangoon. The crab rangoon was like paste and looked like it had sat under a heat lamp for 6 hours. Couldn't finish them and that says something since it's crab rangoon. The shrimp dish was mostly celery, and the sesame chicken was like a 6/10. I was excited to venture somewhere new based on reviews but now shocked at how off the food was to how great the reviews were. Definitely not the worst place to get food, but it wasn't even as good as a mall food court Chinese place. Could of been an off day but not worth it to try again and find out. read more

Had the Mongolian beef and wonton soup. The beef - what you could find among the onions - was a weird grayish color, and the sauce was super watery and lacked flavor. Probably the worst noodle to soup ratio I've ever had in wonton soup, and the noodles that were there were sad and disintegrating. I have eaten here in store and today I placed a pick up order. I was on a time crunch so I called in an order from their lunch menu. I ordered the pepper steak and onions this comes with rice and an egg roll. I love egg rolls, this one was small and not seasoned well, very bland. The lunch specials are a great value and a pretty good portion but taste was just ok. I was able to customize my order to make it extra spicy. It wasn't super spicy. My order was ready when I arrived it took about 10-15 minutes to be ready and since I called it in, there was no wait I was in and out. If you place a pick up order be sure to grab utensils, napkins and sauces before you head out. I will try other lunch options when I am on this side of town. They have about 5-7 tables to eat inside restaurant. Service is good. read more

Ordered General Taos w/ fried rice & egg roll via door dash. Quick delivery and excellent food. My only complaint--they were stingy on the sauce packets. 1 soy packet (I normally use 4), and 1 hot and 1 mustard which I don't use, and no duck sauce which I really wanted and assumed would be in the bag since it's included by pretty much every other Chinese restaurant in the country. Perhaps this will be a learning opportunity for the restaurant--several packets of each sauce!!!! read more

We were nearby and had heard from friends that the food here was good. Like many similar places this is a semi-service were you order at the counter, go sit at a table and they bring everything out to you. This is a family run operation and when we walked in the mother and her young son were behind the counter. The father was in the kitchen helping cook. The son was working the cash register and with a big smile asked us for our order. He was very cute, proficient and had a great personality for his age. My wife ordered her favorite, Hot & Sour Soup and Moo Goo Gai Pan W/Fried Rice. I ordered Hot & Sour and the Spicy Happy Family W/Fried Rice. Our friend ordered the Extra Spicy Hunan Triple. We sat down and very shortly the mother brought out our soup. Just as we finished the soup she brought our meals. The very generous portion meals are served in a large bowl with the rice on the side. Everything was served hot and delicious and we especially enjoyed the Hot & Sour Soup. We wish it was closer as we would certainly make this place a regular stop. read more

It's Chinese New Year this weekend so of course we celebrate by picking up Chinese Food to-go. This restaurant caught my eye after leaving Physical Therapy so it was super convenient. I didn't even have to move my car, I just walked a couple of businesses down. I always test a Chinese restaurant on some standard dishes. Top two - Hot & Sour Soup and General Tso's Chicken. The Hot & sour Soup was thick just how we like it. It was plenty spicy and caught both my husband and I by surprise during our dinner. We both enjoy spicy food so it wasn't a problem but it bordered on a little too much heat. General Tso's was just o.k.. I hate to say it but I've gotten spoiled by cooking the store brand frozen General Tso's and adding lots of fresh broccoli florets. This fresh take out was no better and maybe not as good. I might try this restaurant again for lunch but don't think it will be our spot for take out food. It was A-OK but nothing outstanding. read more

Best Chinese food I've had since moving to Louisville almost 2 years ago. It's about 4-5th place I've tried. The crab Rangoon are my favorite. They're nice a crispy without being too crispy and burnt. The orange chicken has really good flavor but wish it stayed a little bit crispier. The black pepper chicken is very good. I really like the little corns the put in it. The friend rice is really good! I'm not huge fan of fried rice but theirs is really delicious. It's about 10-15 minute drive but it's worth it. My husband and I took my dad out for Chinese. Seeing the menu online and the good reviews got us excited. We arrived and were greeted warmly. Drinks are not on fountain, just bottled. The menu is varied and so we each ordered our "usual" - General Tso Chicken, Mixed Veggies (no mushrooms) in spicy garlic sauce, and Chicken with Cashews. The area was clean and people were friendly. My expectations however were disappointed. There was no heat level to my spicy garlic sauce (when ordered extra spicy). The portion was ok by size, and tasted just OK. Being that this is an out of the way location for me, I likely won't return. There are other, more flavorful and convenient restaurants in town. read more

Purchased the Thai Curry Chicken. I am unable to eat rice due to dietary/medical reasons. Asked if I could substitute the rice (half the meal) for a cup of soup instead. Fat and friendly service, always. I always get the pork lo mein and the husband gets pork fried rice. Solid choices. Even the mapo¿ tofu is delicious amazing. I love it all. No substitution needed - in reference to the gentleman that gave a one star review when he probably didn't even try any of the food. Rice cost nearly nothing and takes almost no effort or other ingredients to make. Soup takes time and effort and call for more ingredients. The cost and labor are not equivalent - so no you can't sub 5 cents of food for $2 worth. Stop being cheap and pay for what you get. read more

For quick Chinese, this place is pretty good. I am not normally a fan of these Chinese fast food type places but this one is pretty good. My first time here was a couple of months ago. I had been told by a friend that it was better than most of the order at the counter Chinese places around, so I gave it a try. We were going to get take out, for lunch today, so I checked, to see what I ordered last time. It was Spicy Bamboo Chicken. I remember being very impressed with it. It is spicy, as the name says. So, many times I am disappointed, because it menu items say they are spicy, but they aren't. But, I noticed I hadn't done a review and decided, to do it now. Last time, we ate, in the restaurant. The restaurant is very clean. They have a little table set up, where you can get extra sauces and things. They have bottled drinks. The employee who took our order did a good job. This time the take-out meal was also good. I usually try different things, on the menu, but since the Spicy Bamboo Chicken had been so good last time, I wanted it again. The flavor and spice was still good. I will try something else, next time. It is nice to have a good Chinese restaurant so close. read more

However the rest of items we orders, fried rice and orange chicken, were very much the standard Chinese fare and nothing special to be honest. Went to the Happy Dragon on Taylorsville Rd today in "Jefferson Town", a part of "Louisville". Had an Egg Roll (not bad, but a little greasy), Won-Ton Soup that was a lot better than that place I went to yesterday in Lexington, and a Melody of Sea food and Chinese Vegetables, which I would say were just OK. It's a neat little store front and the people were nice, but next time, I'll go two doors down to the Subway, and get something a lot more palatable. Will I go back ? No read more

This is our go to Chinese take out restaurant. The ingredients are fresher than other Chinese restaurants and it tastes really good. They are higher priced than some other Chinese take outs but i believe it is because of the better ingredients. read more

Great spot for quick takeout. The restaurant is extremely clean and you can see into the kitchen area while your food is being prepared. The portions are large and piping hot, which are both key factors in choosing a place for Chinese takeout. My boyfriend and I tend to be creatures of habit, so our go to order is chicken & broccoli (good balance of chicken to broccoli and the broccoli is actually in bite size pieces), beef lo mein (the beef is tender), fried rice (better than average) and a couple egg rolls (average, I'd say, but average egg rolls are still pretty awesome, in my opinion). There are tables to sit at while you wait for your food (approximately 10 minutes), and I suppose you could eat at the tables too, but Chinese takeout is best when you're in your pajamas, plopped on the couch, and watching X-Files. read more
