The General Tso's and Sesame Chicken have big white meat chunks with no unpleasant gristle, and perfectly crispy batter. The Kung Pao Chicken had fork tender slices. This place opened recently, it's great to have more good restaurants in this area, which is seriously lacking! I don't hand five stars out unless I'm blown away. The food here has been great all 4 times I've gone, I especially like the pad Thai extra spicy! The chicken and shrimp in it are super fresh and huge, flavor is great and the portions are huge! I don't know how it got the previous 3 reviews. Gave them 2 tries for lunch, once for dinner, and one takeout. Food was overcooked, but served cold, and the orange chicken was literally covered with dry crystallized pseudo-sauce. Will not waste money there again. This place is not so good. Gone here at least 10 Times in 5 years since moving to Maine. Anything fried in a batter is a ripoff. Too much batter too little meat. They take too long to get u a alcohol drink. They have no idea of the amount of meat that should be in a fried food. They overcook all fried food and seems like they don't change frying oil often enough. If u want good Chinese food get closer to Boston , MA. Food is very tasty for the most part. I've ordered often and its usually great. This last time though the eggrolls were very underfilled. The price to portion ration is also not as good as I'm used to but it is now the best Chinese place in town since my old standby closed. I also don't recommend the shrimp lo mein as most of them still had the vein. read more

We love green teas and come often but we usually sit at the bar. The bartender is extremely friendly and a great waitress. Tonight we decided to sit in the dining room and really regretted it. Our waitress was awful. She was not friendly at all, almost rude. We asked for more duck sauce and I kid you not she laughed in my face. We asked for two and said "I can bring one". I've been here many times and the food and prices are really good here. The food presentation is really nice and unique compared to every other Chinese place I've been to. They give you your meal in cafeteria style trays (not as trashy as it sounds). The interior is updated and the place is really clean and has a good look to it. Just don't waste your time ordering their alcoholic drinks. Their made with mostly mix and very little booze. The service from the wait staff is only OK. I seem to get a different waitress every time, so it appears their employees don't stick around for too long for whatever reason. I'd go back for the good only. read more

Just moved to Sanford from the Bangor area last week. So we decided to forgo making dinner and try an area chinese restaurant. We were disappointed that they did not deliver, but it is so close it doesn't really matter (we got take out). We ordered eggs rolls, terriyaki beef (on a stiiiiick), schezuan lo mein, kung pao chicken, and fried rice. Overall we were very pleased with the food, prices, etc. It was nice and hot (temp wise) when we picked it up and the two spicy meals schezuan and kung poa were spicy but not extremely so. The only things we could complain about is that my husband thought the fried rice was bland (I drowned it in kung pao sauce so it didn't register as bland to me) and we both agreed that the duck sauce was a bit on the sweet side. Will order again, but may try another chinese place in the area first. read more

We were looking for a Chinese restaurant in Sanford and this place was recommended by a local. The exterior of the building is adorable, the interior is very nice, and the bar area is very nicely done. The bartender is very entertaining. The staff was willing to make substitutions for me, all good. We ordered takeout and sat at the bar while we waited. We were totally sold on the place and couldn't wait to try the food. Unfortunately, the food did not measure up. The crab rangoons were bland and the wrappers were oily and greasy not dry and crunchy. The shrimp in my meal they made special for me was mealy. I tossed most of it out. The egg roll wrapper was thick and oily/ greasy not thin and crunchy. I pulled the filling out and ate that. The rice that came with the combo meals was just ok. The chicken finger coating again was awful. The steak teriyaki skewers were good as was the boneless spareribs. We wanted to like this place so much but this meal just did not cut it. If we go back we will sit at the bar and order a drink and a couple of not battered nor wonton wrapped appetizers and call it a day read more

Ate at the Green Tea today for first time. Good clean and pleasant décor. Selections were good. A little higher priced than we are use to. However, all dark dishes like fried rice, shrimp and lobster sauce etc. were EXTREMELY salty (MSG loaded). Almost to the point that they were uneatable. Owner said it was the Soy Sauce that was used to make the food dark. Don't believe it. All Chinese in area make their dishes dark as that is a trait for the East. This was heavy handed MSG! Today I had some that were so dried out I couldn't eat they were too hard to chew, and this was not a first. The beef teriyaki too used to be so tender, that too is hit or miss. Went there for lunch today with 3 girl friends. We've been there once before and knew we'd get a nice Chinese lunch that would be inexpensive and quick. As it was a cold and snowy day, we started out ordering tea. It was terrible! I never heard of a Chinese restaurant that couldn't brew good Chinese tea! It was undrinkable. When we told the waitress, she offered to get us some hot water so we could water it down. That wasn't going to help. She tried to explain that they put it in a percolator with fresh tea leaves and it was brewed this morning. But it tasted like tea leaves sat in a pot all day long. Making tea is not rocket science. So we settled on drinking water with lunch. The food was good enough but not fabulous and there was plenty of it. Although the server did try to accommodate us with water for the tea, the service was somewhat lacking. The restaurant was not crowded - only a couple of tables, but we had a long wait for her to come and bring us take out boxes and the checks. Will probably try there again some day, but will bring my own tea bags! read more

Excellent food, very clean dining area and restrooms. Vegetables were not overcooked, dishes were not drowned with sauce, everything was hot, and excellent service by the waitress. We stopped for first time last week and tried lunch menu. Best bargain in town! We read the day's specials and were immediately greeted and seated. Our server was friendly and attentive and said that complimentary Hot and Sour soup came with all meals. It was delicious, not too spicy, very flavorful. My Kung Po chicken, boneless sparerib and pork fried rice (6.75) featured lots of fresh vegetables, tender pork ribs and rice that was not greasy. Took home enough food for lunch next day. We tried take out following week-Shanghai pan-fried noodles were loaded with beef, chicken and shrimp and fresh veggies in brown sauce (12.50).Although it was a Fri. night rush, our called-in order was ready on time and was perfect. Horrible waitress service, subpar food. My one (and only) trip to the Green Tea was comical. First we ordered a pupu platter as an app while we looked over the menu. After ordering a couple of entrees and friend rice to share the waitress came out and said the rice was ready, would we like to start with that? Um, hello - who starts with just rice?? A few minutes later she brings out the entrees and (now cold) rice. She then asked if we needed anything else, and we were like - our appetizer? Apparently she forgot to put the order in. The sauce on the entrees was full of black pepper and salt. About 10 minutes later (and never checking on us) she tells us that they "have a lot of takeout order so it'll be a few more minutes". She never apologized for the error, had a manager stop by etc. Another ten minutes goes by and she brings the pupu. It was just ok. Overfried egg rolls and crab rangoons and a funky coating on the boneless spareribs that was not pleasant. The only saving grace was the chicken wings, but really - how hard are they to make? While we waited for the check the manager did make rounds to every table but ours. Would NEVER go there again. Horrible all around. read more

Sooooooo, random date night with hubby and quite pleased. Let me say this, Sanford is a growing city with a lot of promise and a growing population, desiring good cuisine, not just food. There isnt a lot of variety in town, when it comes to eateries but I have faith that eventually there'll be more from which to choose. Having said that and Green Tea being the only nice Chinese restaurant in town, I appreciate what they offer. The owners began with Yummy House at the midtown mall and that was an eat in/take out joint and it was dope. Now, it's still there but under new ownership so that's a different post. As far as Green Tea is concerned, I'll say, the prawn in the General Tsao dish is aplenty and pungent upon arrival. The broccoli is bright green, with a snap, the house special fried rice meets my palate's expectations and the pad Thai was surprisingly pleasing. This isn't high end Cantonese/Sichuan cuisine but it's the best we have and we enjoyed it. The service was courteous and efficient and the bottled beer was cold. For a Friday night with slim pickings in sight, Green Tea stands as a communal delight. Thank you, Green Tea. read more
