Lunch special of chicken chow mien plus chicken with cashews

This small takeout restaurant has been our go to for simple Chinese food. I can't remember a bad meal coming from here and more than a few really good ones. This week we actually hit them twice (been that kind of week). Pictured is second go, a lunch special of chicken chow mien with egg roll plus chicken with cashews (small order). Not visible is small wonton soup (with six wontons). Walked in to order and everything was done in less then ten minutes. Staff is cordial, place is clean. I do miss the hot tea that went away with COVID. But at least they are back!

Today I tried the Highland China House for the first time. I had a recommendation to try it out, so I did. I ordered 2 lunch combos, and a order of chicken lo mein. First being any 4 appetizers, and rice. I chose fried wontons, beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki and crab rangoons. The fried wontons were ok. The beef and chicken teriyaki were so lacking in flavor. I couldn't taste any teriyaki flavor at all. The crab rangoons though were amazing! I absolutely loved these. Lots of flavor, perfectly cooked. Yum! Next I tried the L12 Sesame chicken with fried rice and a egg roll. The sesame chicken is alright. It reminded me of the mall food type of chicken that I'd get years ago. The fried rice was bland, didn't care for it. The egg roll was average. Nothing special. Last, the chicken lo mein. Like most everything else it was very bland. Overall, my first visit will probably be my last, unless I want some crab rangoons. The dishes are fairly priced, but the absent flavors in almost every dish just isn't for me.

Food was very subpar. Rice seemed to be old and no flavor. This is the last time getting food here

But our hostesses was very friendly and accommodating. We started with sushi appetizers with my wife choosing the avocado salmon roll and I picked the chefs sampler along with a cup of egg drop soup. All were excellent and the soup was maybe the best I've ever had! For our main dishes my wife picked cashew chicken and I picked red curry chicken at medium heat. Both were not quite up to the appetizers. Her dish was loaded with green peppers (not her favorite) and seemed short of cashews. My curry was very spicy (not really medium) but tasty. I had to add some duck sauce to calm it down to make it easier to handle. All in all we liked Easern Paradise we just have to find a quiet time to enjoy them again. And skip the curry!

The fried rice , crab regoons etc are cooked to order and aren't greasy. The teriyaki is cooked perfectly and the egg rolls are chocked full of filling. The chicken fingers have just the right amount of chicken to breading and are also fresh. Sushi- They offer rice paper in lue of seaweed for the sushi ( which isn't mentioned on their menu). Waitstaff is always attentive, pleasant. This is our go-to place for Chinese food Takes credit cards and is located in the Rochester shopping plaza by Crumble.

This is one of my favorite places to order Chinese takeout from when I am visiting the area…read more The last time we ordered from here we got an order of chicken wings, some boneless spareribs and some pork fried rice to split plus we each got a cup of their hot and sour soup. The ordering process over the phone was easy and the person answering the call seemed friendly enough. When we got to the restaurant the place was not too busy and from what we saw the place is well maintained and clean. Our order was carefully packed and the food was still hot when we got it back to the house. Everything was delicious and we really enjoyed the food.

There are several dishes that for my taste beats everyone else in the area hands down. For my taste the things I enjoy most here are: Crab Rangoons-- they are homemade with a taste of creamy with a bit of sweetness. They don't taste like those frozen knockoffs some places serve that taste like cream cheese in a wanton. Lobster Sauce-- No one and I mean no one's I have ever eaten comes close to the rich consistency they have of ground pork, black bean paste , garlic and soy sauce. Most places I have had lobster sauce from it is this clear broth thickened with a few julienne carrots, celery and some times green onion. That's not pleasing to me to eat with rice as a topping. But the lobster sauce here over their pork fried rice is amazing!! Boneless Pork Spare Ribs-- while most places you get a bunch of fat or the Chinese BBQ sauce is brushed on during or after cooking. These guys marinate them in it and for me they totally are amazing. I also enjoy their Orange Beef, General Tso's, Szechuan Green Beans, Chicken or Pork fried rice and Scallion Pancakes. I've been frequenting this restaurant for their whole 30+ years of business and both their locations in Rochester. While things happen in the restaurant business with product availability, staffing, life changes, moving a business to a new location, cooking staff, counter staff and a multitude of factors most people outside the restaurant industry just don't understand this place continues to satisfy my palate. They no longer have a full service dining room, and they do not serve alcohol any longer. The second new location(across the street) I find to always be clean and the counter service has improved over time. Rochester is a hard city, hard to find quality help at what Liu's can afford to pay employees. The owner has ALWAYS been friendly, pleasant and professional to me over the entire time I have frequented his business. I feel that many times people who leave negative reviews and/or comments are also only leaving negative reviews from bad experiences or had other factors that influenced their day previously. I've noticed many of the negative reviewers here have only left 1-2 reviews ever on yelp. I do not take much stock in those reviews. I feel a good reviewer has many experiences on different ends and everywhere in between of the spectrum good and bad. My two cent review.

This is our go to takeout restaurant most of the time for good reason: it's delicious and reasonably priced. We would eat in more often, but the location is pretty small and they are always packed, so there aren't many tables, and wait times can be long (all in all that's a good thing, they are so good people are more than willing to wait)

The restaurant was not too busy on arrival, but then a steady stream of diners streamed in, as well as a brisk pace of take out orders. We had a friendly and efficient waiter, who helped explain the menu a bit as it was our first visit. The menu is pan-asian, but I thought leaned heavily into Japanese dishes. So many dumpling and Bao dishes, I was tempted to just have those, but also wanted to try a noodle dish. Xiao Long Bao and soup dumplings were delicious, and I absolutely want to return to work deeper into the dumplings here. For the noodle dish, we opted for Seafood Maloney, which was an assortment of seafood with glass noodles. This dish wasn't my favorite, had a fair amount of shrimp, but not much else, and wasn't a flavor that I loved. Next time, will try a more traditional noodle dish. This looks like a "family run" restaurant, and I would recommend a stop when in Dover NH
