Just had a simple takeout from Liu's Garden last night of Egg drop soup, chicken low mien and beef teriyaki. One first thing is that everything appears to be ala carte in that if the item doesn't list the usual expected extra you won't get it unless you order it. For example our soup in other restaurants would come with crunchy noodles. Here it's just the soup. Beef teriyaki was tasty but the beef strips are a bit undercooked (okay with me but some people might prefer more done). Chicken low mien tasty but could also have used more chicken. Soup is very good. The person who took my order was friendly and helpful. Order came out promptly. We do plan to give them another try with other items. read more

This is one of my favorite places to order Chinese takeout from when I am visiting the area. The last time we ordered from here we got an order of chicken wings, some boneless spareribs and some pork fried rice to split plus we each got a cup of their hot and sour soup. The ordering process over the phone was easy and the person answering the call seemed friendly enough. When we got to the restaurant the place was not too busy and from what we saw the place is well maintained and clean. For me personally this is my favorite Chinese food in the area. Why you ask with some of the reviews you see on Yelp about this place? There are several dishes that for my taste beats everyone else in the area hands down. For my taste the things I enjoy most here are: Crab Rangoons-- they are homemade with a taste of creamy with a bit of sweetness. They don't taste like those frozen knockoffs some places serve that taste like cream cheese in a wanton. Lobster Sauce-- No one and I mean no one's I have ever eaten comes close to the rich consistency they have of ground pork, black bean paste , garlic and soy sauce. Most places I have had lobster sauce from it is this clear broth thickened with a few julienne carrots, celery and some times green onion. That's not pleasing to me to eat with rice as a topping. But the lobster sauce here over their pork fried rice is amazing!! Boneless Pork Spare Ribs-- while most places you get a bunch of fat or the Chinese BBQ sauce is brushed on during or after cooking. These guys marinate them in it and for me they totally are amazing. I also enjoy their Orange Beef, General Tso's, Szechuan Green Beans, Chicken or Pork fried rice and Scallion Pancakes. I've been frequenting this restaurant for their whole 30+ years of business and both their locations in Rochester. While things happen in the restaurant business with product availability, staffing, life changes, moving a business to a new location, cooking staff, counter staff and a multitude of factors most people outside the restaurant industry just don't understand this place continues to satisfy my palate. They no longer have a full service dining room, and they do not serve alcohol any longer. The second new location(across the street) I find to always be clean and the counter service has improved over time. Rochester is a hard city, hard to find quality help at what Liu's can afford to pay employees. The owner has ALWAYS been friendly, pleasant and professional to me over the entire time I have frequented his business. I feel that many times people who leave negative reviews and/or comments are also only leaving negative reviews from bad experiences or had other factors that influenced their day previously. I've noticed many of the negative reviewers here have only left 1-2 reviews ever on yelp. I do not take much stock in those reviews. I feel a good reviewer has many experiences on different ends and everywhere in between of the spectrum good and bad. My two cent review. read more

A staple i would say in the Rochester area. Whenever I'm up in NH, i tend to stop in here. This family owned establishment is the best for Chinese food in the area. It has all the American chinese hits and more. Crab rangoons are the best i ever had, there's about 3 places on my list, one closed, another changed owners but this spot is always consistent. Their crab rangoons and beef teriyaki are so good. My folks are partial to the Singapore noodles as well! Right balance of saltiness, noodles are flavorful and proteins always tender. The owner is always good to me, he's definitely gone thru some of the negative impact staff that some reviews have mentioned and those folks are no longer with the business. You know what they say, good help is hard to find. I've seen so many community members frequent this place and for good reason. The space is clean, spacious and you order your food for take out or you could take it and sit down in a booth and enjoy at the spot. So disappointed, as it is only takeout at this location, and food is carelessly prepared, not tasty like in the past. You have to ask for plate and they give you no Chinese tea, you must purchase drink from cooler. We've ordered from here two times since my last review 3 years ago. We moved to the area 2 years ago and it's extremely close to home, decided to give it another go since our go to place is 30+ minutes away. The food is hit or miss, sometimes it's piping hot and so fresh and delicious, other times it's damn near inedible (chewy disgusting chicken, burnt dried up boneless ribs, undercooked crab rangoon, etc). When it's a good day, the food is pretty good, not my favorite but it hits the spot. My mom recently discovered their onion rings, they use the chicken finger batter to dip them in and wow, it's pure genius. They're delicious. read more

The food is always amazing although customer service really varies. Sometimes difficult to order food but it's never been wrong before. The location is kind of difficult to get out of as the light there is funky - it's in the middle of the intersection. The inside itself is fine, mostly takeout now. read more

Disappointed tonight. I actually liked dining-in at lui's garden since they moved to their new place a while back. Today they did away with waitstaff and started making customers order at the register and call your number when your food is ready. I don't care for the new dine-in atmosphere where I eat in take out containers and the cheapest of cheap plastic utensils. In my previous visits the place was inviting and would even order a few drinks from their bar. Everyone that came in hearing this news with a bit of an awkward look. Another couple left after hearing the news. I can understand cutting costs, but seriously take away the one to two waitresses they previously employed at server pay? They are going to loose a lot more with the loss of customer returns that enjoyed eating in and socializing with a drink or two. This place is no longer inviting. read more

Tried this as a suggestion - we always go a different local spot but was looking to shake things up. Ordered a decent amount of food - the girl on the phone was less than pleasant but I chalked that up to being busy and didn't give it a second thought. Went to checkout for my food and the cashier is rude, the girl behind her is making inappropriate chatter and then before I could even tip - the girl behind the cashier said "what no tip?" As I had cash in my hand that wasn't in the jar yet - however this comment made me more annoyed than feeling my business was appreciated l. So, take the food home, it's ehhh at best - nothing I felt was done well enough to return for and after that service, I don't feel im missing out. One and done for this place and me... go to eastern paradise, they are the best in the area! read more

We have been getting takeout from Liu's for a couple of years now and the food quality is excellent. However, recently, we've noticed that their normally very generous portion sizes have decreased significantly, over the couple of months. We used to be able to share one meal for two people; or if only one of us orders we usually have plenty left over for the next day. Not sure why and it's quite disappointing. read more

Welp, time to update this review. Last time I ordered via GrubHub, my order was just outright ignored and I never received it and had to get GrubHub to cancel and refund. This time, my order did eventually show up- an hour after I placed it. While the price was fair enough, the food was subpar at best. The fried rice was bland and lukewarm, and consisted of literally nothing but rice, soy sauce and pork. The crab rangoons were rubbery and almost cold, the chicken fingers were so doused in oil I nearly had to wring them out. My pets got more of this than I did, and I probably won't be back. read more

Food is pretty fire! Some of the best Crabrangoon Ive had. (Realize thats a BIG statement). Gotta try em! BUT... they do not include steamed rice when you get a meal like General Tso's. Pretty disappointing to get home, call to find out where your white rice is and be told, "its not included". I wrote a review in November that Liu's wouldn't refund our money when they mistakenly charged us 3 times in a row. On March 9, 2021 they refunded our money. Thank you Liu's for owning your mistake. We will now gladly use you again because we had been enjoying your food very much for a long time and had been loyal costumers. This was my first trip to Liu's Garden in many years. We stopped going, about 10 years ago, when they were in their old location, because the staff looked like creepy folks you might run into in a dark alley at night. Today, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the staff looked clean, professional, and like you wouldn't mind them handling your food. The food was delicious! Crab rangoons were plump and tasty, with creamy filling. The chicken fingers were crisp and not greasy at all. The Peking dumplings were among the best I've ever had. The Lo Mein was okay, but the noodles were a little weird, almost like round spaghetti. The veggies and pork in the Lo Mein were tasty and the Lo Mein didn't contain gobs of fatty pork like you get in some Chinese restaurants. We'd be happy to get food from Liu's Garden again. read more

Hmmmmmm.....so many mixed reviews. Didn't want to take the trip to Saigon Tokyo in Dover, so decided to try Liu's for first time. Extremely pleasant person took the order and the delivery person was also really nice. Customer service? 5 stars! Food was not bad. I would say "middle of the road". Loved the fried wontons and chicken fingers. Rice, teriyaki, Rangoon's....eh, ok. 3 stars! What was VERY disappointing was the "value". Portion size was laughable. Rice is extremely inexpensive. At least create the illusion that it was more than a kids meal. I wouldn't say I would not go to Liu's again. But would never frequent it. Would probably take the trip to Saigon Tokyo for much more bang for my buck. read more

Disappointing. I ordered; General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Large Vegetable Lo-Mein, Large Egg Roll (2 egg rolls), and Large Crab Rangoon. It came to $52 and change. Delivered and tipped $10 so $62 Imagine my surprise when I opened the bag and there was NO WHITE RICE! What?? $52 and they can't even send rice...must be a mistake, right? I call them and I was told that it's not included unless you say something (and it doesn't say that anywhere on their website or menu). "ok well, can I get an order delivered?" "Sorry, $15 minimum". Shame on them. On top of that insult the Sesame Chicken was so dry it was almost inedible. Like, chew each piece at least 20 times before you can swallow it dry. Crab Rangoon was good but not $52 good. I won't be ordering from here again. read more

Liu's Garden is a classic greasy Chinese restaurant. They give nice big portions with your order, but you may pay for those large portions in the end (if you know what I mean). If you're in the mood for large amounts of really tasty and greasy Chinese food, then go for it! Just don't expect anything more. read more

We order from here once in a while when we're too lazy to get dressed enough to go out. They deliver, which helps too, though I've only used that convenience once. My girlfriend doesn't mind this place, but I'm usually pretty leery of ordering from them. For some reason, I always feel a little sickly after eating their food. Several of the sauces taste pretty much the same (Sesame chicken, General T's, orange chicken, etc.). They use the typical cheap, fatty cuts of meat you'll find at any cheap Chinese joint. And come to think of it, they're not really all that cheap either. We're lucky if we get food for under $30 bucks, which isn't bad, if you don't take into account the quality of the food. Still, our neighbors swear by it, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. read more

When we walked in to order, we found the staff (of 3) playing cards in the kitchen prep table (visible just behind the front counter). They were nice enough, and there weren't any other customers but it took them awhile to notice us.. and on a kitchen table? come on, that's not best practice. "Meh" is right. Although they were very fast to compile our order, you could tell (at 7pm) that most of the food had been sitting out. Egg rolls were tough and the lo mien and rice were very dark, hinting they they've been sitting for awhile. The sauces used were a little tart. My first impression was that there was something wrong, but sucked it up and accepted it. Maybe i'm just not use to it - but it did taste much different than anything i've had before - in an off sort of way. Overall, I think I will check out the other Asian restaurants in town before I re-try this one. Nothing caught my attention to make a mental note to come back. read more

NEVER AGAIN Poor quality food. Rice was overcooked, pork was all fat and gristle, and a staple? really? I was afraid to eat the rice after that. The only think I felt was good was the Terriaki. I dont care if they are moving across the street. Their lack of quality scared me off forever. Friend of mine tried them again the other day, and it was terrible she said. I said 'told you so'.
