Onion rings with chicken finger batter...genius
    Heather F.

We've ordered from here two times since my last review 3 years ago. We moved to the area 2 years ago and it's extremely close to home, decided to give it another go since our go to place is 30+ minutes away. The food is hit or miss, sometimes it's piping hot and so fresh and delicious, other times it's damn near inedible (chewy disgusting chicken, burnt dried up boneless ribs, undercooked crab rangoon, etc). When it's a good day, the food is pretty good, not my favorite but it hits the spot. My mom recently discovered their onion rings, they use the chicken finger batter to dip them in and wow, it's pure genius. They're delicious.

    New inviting dinnerware.

Disappointed tonight. I actually liked dining-in at lui's garden since they moved to their new place a while back. Today they did away with waitstaff and started making customers order at the register and call your number when your food is ready. I don't care for the new dine-in atmosphere where I eat in take out containers and the cheapest of cheap plastic utensils. In my previous visits the place was inviting and would even order a few drinks from their bar. Everyone that came in hearing this news with a bit of an awkward look. Another couple left after hearing the news. I can understand cutting costs, but seriously take away the one to two waitresses they previously employed at server pay? They are going to loose a lot more with the loss of customer returns that enjoyed eating in and socializing with a drink or two. This place is no longer inviting.

Example of the smaller portion sizes.

We have been getting takeout from Liu's for a couple of years now and the food quality is excellent. However, recently, we've noticed that their normally very generous portion sizes have decreased significantly, over the couple of months. We used to be able to share one meal for two people; or if only one of us orders we usually have plenty left over for the next day. Not sure why and it's quite disappointing.

This was posted on a FB page then taken down! Not sure what kind of maggot/insect was found in their food but not even a refund was made. Avoid at all costs!

An excellent third stop on our impromptu culinary tour of Portland, and our party grew from two to four. I had the Shanghai cowboy cocktail, the bourbon hits, and you can definitely taste the mint more than the guava. All the foods in order of my preference, this was a tough list to rank because everything had great flavor and came out hot!! Lobster rangoon: yes, I would love to have another order of these! Great flavor, nice crisp wonton, just a wonderful rangoon experience! Pork pot stickers: mmm, love me some pot stickers, and these lived up to my expectations, great flavor and texture! Sa cha chicken skewers: so very tender, great flavor, would gladly eat again! Garlic meatball skewers: good flavor, nice dipping sauce, happy we added these to our selection. Shanghai soup dumplings: in general a fun food item, great flavor and they were highly recommended by the everyone who suggested we eat here. Mongolian beef: the beef had great flavor, the broccoli was cooked properly, not mushy, the onions were well caramelized; delicious! Har gow: good flavor, nice steamed dumplings, glad we tried them! Peking duck buns: my friend was in love with these, it was good, but not something I was immediately obsessed with. More than enough food for the three of us adults! The toddler had an order of steamed noodles. I definitely forgot a few photos, but the food was just so good!!

Its got plants everywhere and cool asian inspired trellises…read morefor them to climb on - there is a good mix of high top and low top seating, a bar area that looks like it could be part of a speakeasy - dark, and eclectic , anyways, while I appreciate all that - how did the food stack up? 3 things to go over - Lobster rangoon, Duck Bao Buns and Orange beef. Lobster rangoon, order them yesterday. They're absolutely amazing. Little sweet, little tangy, rich, very light exterior, plenty of filling; they checked all the boxes. I wish an order came with double! (I wouldn't judge if you put in a double order). The Duck Bao, for me, would be a pass for next time. They were good- just not standout. The bao bun itself was very nice and pillowy, just as you'd want, so they are working with a great foundation. I just wanted a little more out of the flavor for the duck. Maybe it could have used some freshness in there, there was a touch of scallion and some soy based sauce in there but could have benefited from some veg like shredded carrot or daikon or something else. Either that or it would have needed to lean even harder into the umami, caramel- deep flavors. Onto the orange beef. I didn't know how to feel about this when it was first put in front of me. The portion seemed okay, but I realized as I kept eating, the pile of beef wasn't going down as quick as I thought it would (good problem to have!) the beef was crisp, the orange flavor was tangy and sweet - it was really tasty. Beef wasn't tough but also wasn't super tender. Not good nor bad. My only complaint here is that there could have been a little more bok choy and the rice was not very easy to eat with chopsticks. It was a jasmine rice from what it seemed and it didn't have any starch to stick together at all. To pick it up I was having to press the beef into the rice to stick it all together. Not super easy to eat but maybe its just a me problem.

Got a large variety of dim sum items and it all came out pretty quickly. My favorites were the chicken feet, tripe, shrimp and chive dumplings and salty egg yolk charcoal lava bun! The steamed tripe was super flavorful in a ginger onion sauce and all the shrimp items were really great with plenty of filling. We got both the regular steamed salty egg yolk lava buns and the charcoal one and I have to say, you gotta get the charcoal buns as the filling is way more flavorful and has that runny, ooey gooey texture I love! Parking can be tricky in downtown Malden but there is a parking lot in the back or metered street parking if you can find a space.

May 15, 2026 I'm…read morewriting this a week retrospectively from my experience, since I've been through a few things medically in the last week and needed time to think about our family's experience at Karma-Burlington. First - our server, Kendra A. Was really good and kind. She worked hard for the 7 of us and my few criticisms don't reflect on her at all. First - let me say that Karma/Burlington is not set up properly for large parties. Our table was located right next to the kitchen door. It is neither a gracious nor a comfortable place to have a large dinner together. Secondly, the table was both too narrow and not long enough to accommodate people and large plates of food. In other words, it was cramped and because of that, not nearly as welcoming as it could have been. Third - the music in the restaurant is obnoxious. It was always on the edge of being too loud and it's directed at a younger crowd .... People who either don't care about assaults on their hearing or who don't care about being able to have meaningful conversations at moderate levels. Now... let's talk about the food. Generally, it was really good, though their Pu-Pu platter for two sucks for the price ($37.00 each). There were no egg-rolls on it, only two fried shrimp, a stack of boneless Chinese rib pieces, and some chicken fingers - which were overly breaded and not worth eating. I also counted four crabs Rangoon pieces on each platter. Not exactly a generous offering!! I'd definitely skip this appetizer next time. Now - we chose, as a family, to eat communally - passing plates around and sharing everything. I've attached the photo of the receipt, so that you can see what we ordered. Three plates stood out as exceptional: the Coffee-braised short ribs were really delicious. Fattening, but amazing. The second was the Beef with mixed vegetables - one of my perennial favorites at Karma. The third was the Mongolian Beef, which was tender, savory, and delicious. The Stir-fried Yee Mein was not memorable and I'd not order it again. My eldest daughter ordered the Philly Maki and the Cucumber and Avocado Maki. Both were good but very much not exceptional. A number of us ordered the Hot & Sour soup and it was very good - as it usually is. The soup was served piping hot and quickly, which made it a small delight. The service we received was good across the board and the restaurant cannot be faulted for how busy they were.... Which I have to say did not at all impact the quality of our meal. If you want to go to Karma-Burlington as a group, tell the manager that you do not want the table where we were! Other than my specific concerns, it was a very good experience and I'm happy we went.

We booked our table in advance, and the reservation process was smooth--they did take a credit card to hold the table, which was totally fine and gave us peace of mind for a busy night. The staff was incredibly accommodating. They allowed us to bring our own birthday cake, and at the end of the meal they brought it out with birthday candles for my daughter, which made her feel so special. That thoughtful touch really meant a lot to us. The food was excellent. We loved the sushi--fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The Yin Yang Chicken was a standout dish, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The drinks were also fantastic and paired really well with the food. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations for both food and drinks, which made ordering easy and enjoyable. Even though the restaurant was packed, the service never felt rushed. The atmosphere and ambiance were lively, vibrant, and perfect for a celebration. You could really feel the energy of the place. Overall, Karma was the perfect spot for a birthday dinner--great food, great service, and a great vibe. We'll definitely be back for future celebrations and nights out. Highly recommend!

While waiting for your order, you will hear nothing sizzling in the kitchen because I don't believe they actually do any cooking here. They are simply reheating incredibly low quality Chinese food, that they ordered from a warehouse, in a microwave. The people who work here are pleasant and friendly, but as you're sitting there waiting for your food to arrive, you have to ask yourself "why am I eating in a restaurant that is so filthy?" There are splashes of food on the walls that seem to be decades old. Someone I know well told me they had food from here one night that was surprisingly good. I now know that they were either drunk or stoned off their keister. What a waste of money.

When I called Pan Asia, I was told the missing items were left at the restaurant by the delivery driver and that they would send the food to my home. Shortly after, they called back and said the order had been refunded (via Grub Hub). I explained that I was willing to pay for the food, but only if it was freshly made. At that point, they told me the food had never been cooked in the first place. I then asked if there would be any compensation for the inconvenience, since I still hadn't received my full order and would now have to reorder and wait even longer. They claimed they didn't understand what I was asking. I clearly explained that I was still waiting for my food and that at no point had they offered anything to make up for the situation caused by the restaurant not preparing the order. Their response was extremely unprofessional. I was told to "keep your money" and "don't ever call here again." Mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability, poor communication, and outright rude behavior are unacceptable. I will not be ordering from Pan Asia again.
