Just got our delivery from the dash, and I am beyond disappointed and this is not a good first impression for me. We ordered the spare ribs, teriyaki beef, sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoons and scallion pancakes. The beef and ribs were so dry! The sweet and sour chicken oozed grease so bad we couldn't even taste the chicken, and the scallion pancakes had almost no flavor. However that is nothing compared to the "crab" Rangoon. These were absolutely atrocious! They tasted like fish! And I don't mean "seafoody" I mean like an actual FISH. I don't expect these places to use all crab and am aware most use an imitation, but this was down right unbelievable. Was it old? Idk I don't dare eat anymore. The cost was ridiculous. All this came to just around $100 and it all fit in a small bag. Granted, it was ordered on a third party app, but this was not worth the wait or the money. The only reason they're getting 2 stars is due to the moderately quick delivery, but I think this is more on the dash than Chia Sen. If I wanted leftover Chinese food I would order from a better, cheaper place and eat in 3 days from now. Buyer beware read more

We dined here on a busy Saturday. We were seated promptly and were given glasses of water. The noodle appetizer on the house had a nice crunch and flavor. We ordered the mixed appetizer plate, hubby ordered vegetable dumplings. My FIL and I opted for Szechuan beef while my MIL ordered beef with broccoli. The dishes came with soup and a choice of fried or steamed rice. The soups were served first which was a nice touch. The appetizers were flavorful and not too greasy. I couldn't give more than 3 stars though because the Szechuan beef is much different than the previous ones I've had. My FIL said the same thing. None of us thought the fried rice was good either. The restroom was at least clean. And we all got a fortune cookie. read more

This place has been my tried and true since middle school. You always know what you'll be getting! This is quintessential American Chinese. My favorites/must orders: Pu Pu Platter for two and the house fried rice! The food doesn't have any MSG which is a huge plus. The inside is definitely standard Chinese restaurant, nothing extravagant. The waiters are always kind and efficient. A huge plus about this place is how fast the food comes out and the portion size! It gets pretty busy on the weekends but I've never had to wait too long. read more

We went after the theater one afternoon. It was nice to have lunch specials until 4:00 p.m. and we took advantage of the lower prices. The food was quite good, a huge selection, and the price very fair. The restaurant itself is bright from natural light and very clean. I had dinner here and it was just ok. I am giving 4 stars for the service and cleanliness of the restaurant and restroom. The food however was not great. I had orange chicken and it was so overcooked and dried I could barely cut or chew it as it was so hard. The wontons in the soup were undercooked. The white rice was fine, seemed fresh and moist. Loved the table top crunchies. Definitely not how I remember this restaurant from years ago. I did enjoy the atmosphere and felt the staff was very accommodating. Chia Sen is one of my go to Chinese restaurants. I find that the food is not overly greasy and it is very good. Best I ever had? No, but definitely respectable. Recently, had pu pu platter, shrimp lo mein, pork, fried rice, and steamed chicken and vegetables with hunan sauce. All was very flavorful and packaged well to keep fried items crispy. The steamed veggies and chicken had some water that had to be dumped out of container, but the Hunan sauce on the side was just the right amount of spicy and very rich tasting. Best tip is get the homemade duck sauce. I could bathe in this stuff and I dump it on everything! I have always done takeout from there, but the atmosphere inside looks welcoming. We were so pleased with our order. We had spring rolls, pan fried dumplings and Beef with Broccoli. The broccoli was fresh and tasty. Spring rolls had a crunch wrapper and very good. We went here Saturday night and quickly Sat us, waitress arrived with water and that what we drank. The menus are smaller but laminated and the drink menu looks great! We are on week 13 of our vegetarian diet, so we split veggie spring rolls , and I got a small spicy hot and sour soup! Both came at once and I asked for hot mustard and hot chili oil and everything was great! Patty ordered veggie lo mein and she said it was great but a little greasy, but good! Struggled between giving one or two stars based on yesterday's experience. I hope ours was an isolated incident. Stopped in for lunch while out Christmas shopping. The atmosphere is quite sterile - not welcoming at all - but that's fine. I was there for food, not ambiance anyway. Staff was doing their jobs; nothing more than that, and a couple of times we felt very rushed. At one point the waitress stopped by our table. I literally had food in my hands - was actively eating - and she started clearing the table, asking if we needed a box. Ordered a Pu Pu platter for two, some egg drop soup and an Absolute Stress Free bowl. The soup was good. The platter, acceptable. It wasn't anything special but was perfectly fine. We did ask for hot mustard and, although another poster indicated they charge for that, they did not charge extra. I was happy to see it. The drink is where we got into some issues. The recipe, and menu, say the bowl contains: vodka, rum, peach schnapps, orange juice and cranberry juice. We ordered one for two people so everything should have been doubled. What we received is a large bowl of ice with some juice in it. The "funny" thing is I overheard the waitress talking to a photographer (she was there to take pictures of the food). "I don't know what alcohol to put in here" "just add a shot of something....it doesn't matter what." Seriously?? The photographer said it but the fact that this conversation even took place at all - much less, within earshot, is quite ridiculous. We called the waitress over to complain about the drink - she sent the hostess over who told us the drink contained "some absolute and a variety of juices." If there was ANY alcohol in it at all, it was half a shot. Obviously this wasn't $3 or $4 - it was $16. Disappointing to say the least. Go for average food to fill your belly; don't go for ambiance, spot on service, and definitely don't go for drinks. read more

Great traditional Chinese food just like you remember it was made in the 90s. Really great value too. Just order lunch specials because dinners are more expensive but exactly the same portion size. The only difference is that they come on a bigger plate and you don't get the sides that are included with the lunch special. Highly recommend this place. read more

I had takeout from here years ago and was disappointed. Thought I'd give it another go today and try the lunch specials. I got the general tso's chicken, fried rice, and egg drop soup. My soup was average at best. The rice was dry and bland. The chicken was pretty awful. It was over fried, the meat itself was stringy, and apparently mixed with a lot of some type of white, grainy, gummy starch. Each piece of "meat" was half starch. It didn't contribute to the taste at all, but the texture was weird, and my digestive system has not been happy since. I guess it makes the pieces of meat look big and the dish is filling, but it's pretty terrible. Beyond that, the sauce was far too sweet. The service was quick, but often looked a little lost as a waiter would just stand in the dining area looking aimlessly. I will not be back. read more

Chia Sen has raised prices and lowered their quality significantly. We were always a supporter but their cheapness has finally turned us away completely. Everything was bland, even the hot and sour soup. The teriyaki steak now tastes more Indian (curry) than Asian. The egg rolls smell like spoiled shrimp and are just bland and gross. The dumplings are clearly no longer made but now frozen out of a box from a food distributor. The young man taking our order on the phone gave us (lousy) Szechuan shredded beef instead of the crispy beef that we ordered. And as always they charge $2+ for a tiny thing of hot mustard, none is given even with a $95+ order. I guess we all have to pay for the glossy Chia Sen stickers on every container? Take out order. Every year I come back to Chia Sen in the summer after being away for the winter. I was reorder my favorite dishes. For the 5th year in a row, they've gotten worse. 1) Cold noodles w/Sesame paste - bland, no sesame flavor, no spice, just boringly mild. 2) Hot n Sour soup - not spicy enough 3) Roast Pork Dumplings steamed. Plenty of pork inside, but the dumpling itself is way too thick. It's like eating through a wall of starch. 4) Twice cooked pork spicy. The cabbage was too hard, so was the pork. The spice was almost non-existent. Very disappointing dish. I don't think I can give them another chance. This once special restaurant has gone totally downhill in my opinion. Also, I got charged $1.25 for a little container of mustard, while in the meantime, they completely forgot my dumpling sauce with the order. I cannot recommend Chia Sen any more. read more

Our favorites were the sizzling duck, the beef chow fun and the chicken noodle soup. Our family was craving comfort food and we decided to come straight here after the Jetport. Yummy Chinese restaurant located in Scarborough. As of Memorial Day weekend 2021 take out still seems the most popular. You can dine indoors but food is served on paper plates and in take out containers. Food is still excellent! They offer white, brown or plain fried rice (for no upcharge). Somehow i had never eaten here... now i know why. The scallion pancakes were doughy, not crisp. Tasted ok. The egg roll was LITERALLY nothing but cabage in a wrapper and fried. Didn't even taste worth it. Soup was my wife's. She ate it with the crispy noodles it came with. No comments. Her general tso came with plain fried rice. She liked it. I tried the rice...emphasis on PLAIN; may as well have been white rice. Beef teriyaki, i do not know what happened to the meat, but it was magically stringy AND crumbled when bitten into. FAIL Mei fun has a yellow curry powder in it...?? Tasted like the powder was added as an afterthought and should have been left out. I've been going to this restaurant over 15 years and tried many different items, narrowing it down to a few reliable things that I could count on like twice cooked pork and cold noodles. But in the pre-covid years it started to be less tasty so stopped going. I keep hoping that perhaps a new chef will make a difference, but a recent takeout order found both dishes tasteless, banal and completely bland. There simply was no flavor, and it cost $25 with tax. I'm going back to my old standby- PF Chang frozen dinners! I add a few of my own ingredients. We ordered two wonton soups at closing time. We got them back to the hotel and the wontons were falling apart, the broth was thick and oily. The two soups were just under $10. We called today to ask for a refund and the woman said no. Flat out said no. Refused us a manager. What kind of a restaurant won't refund under $10. Can you spare it????!!!!????!!!!! Run don't walk...FAR FAR AWAY FROM this restaurant!!!!!! Too bad for them because tonight we were going to order food for 8 people but with their attitude...bye bye now!!! The food here is great. Service is great. Ordering online is a breeze. Etc. I hate to say it- we found a wire bristle in our food. They must use wire bristle brushes to clean their grills and stove tops or something. I hate to be the one to leave a bad review because I actually love it here- but they need to catch on to the anti wire bristle train. We've all seen those stories about them having to get surgically removed. Our children eat this food with us :( It was very disappointing to find. We ordered wonton soup for 2, chicken fingers, chicken terriyaki, beef with scallions and dim sum style shumai. Our food came out pretty quickly. Wonton soup was solid, nice broth and good wontons Chicken fingers were ok, nice cuts of white meat chicken but small and squiggly Chicken terriyaki skewers were a big hit. Excellent touch of cherry and pineapple at the end of each The beef with scallions was great! The vegetables were green and fresh and the sauce was light and delicious The shumai were a disappointment. I LOVE dim sum and frequent several places in Boston and NYC. When I read "dim sum style" on a menu, I began to imagine shrimp Har Gow, and should have realized the emphasis here was on shumai. Basically, I love Chinese. Chia Sen provides a better type of Chinese. You don't feel as bad after eating it. You don't get that... sickness in your soul that can accompany Chinese. You know what I mean? The food tastes fresh, and the service is great. I usually order takeout, and it's always prompt (except for Xmas Eve, order hours ahead!) I'm a huge fan of the Young Chow Fried Rice, and 2 spring rolls. The shrimp is nice and juicy. Chicken and pork cooked well, and the veggies taste fresh as well. Not too salty as can be an issue elsewhere. Only downside is they are a bit pricy for what you get. But worth it in my mind (so I've convinced myself). Give them a shot. You'll love it too. read more
