I ordered The Burger via UberEats tonight, and now I don't care that much about location. If they were good enough, at delivery temperature, for me to write a five-star review, I want these burgers right off the grill--but to go! Real chop steak, not some frozen disc. The pretzel bun was quite nice. The single slice of American cheese was far thicker than anyplace else I've had burgers outside of Wisconsin or Texas. We traveled here for my brother's Navy graduation and his one request was burgers. This place had 12 listed on the menu so I knew it was the place. I didn't even get the chance to order food--and that had nothing to do with the menu and everything to do with the service. I came in with my son after reviewing the menu ahead of time. Once seated, we learned there was a limited menu due to a nearby show. That's completely understandable. What's not acceptable is how we were treated when I asked a simple question. Before I could even finish speaking, the waiter interrupted me and immediately shut me down, saying nothing outside the menu could be accommodated. I asked if I could finish my question. When I finally got the chance to explain I was only asking if a Caesar salad (which was on the limited menu) could be made into a wrap, he first said no, then fumbled with "I don't know," without making any effort to check. It didn't feel like a limitation--it felt like he simply didn't want to serve us. At that point, we decided to leave. There was no attempt to correct the situation, no professionalism, no basic courtesy. He just grabbed our menus and let us walk out. On the way out, another staff member immediately told me the wrap could have been made. That alone tells you everything you need to know. Cool local bar in downtown Waukegan on Genesee. It has lots of cheap drinks and the food isn't the usual greasy junk. Green Town Tavern gets its name from Ray Bradbury's series of books. Like many, they're proud of their hometown author, and the city. There's also slots. After looking for good bars around here, we came. It was early in the evening. They weren't busy and we got seats at the bar and placed drink and food orders. It's about $4 for some local beer. They have Irie Tighthead on tap. As for the food, we got a few things not commonly found at bars. They have some things for vegetarians. I had the Peanut Butter And Jelly. It's $5 and comes with a choice of grape or strawberry, and the choice of chips or cole slaw. She had the Veggie Wrap. Healthy bar food. There's also of course plenty of greasy options. Stopped in before seeing a show at the theater down the street. If I lived close, I'd be a regular. This was one of the best Italian beef sandwiches I've ever had (and I literally wrote a book about sandwiches- chapter 1 being about Italian beefs throughout Chicagoland). Beef was slightly thicker cut that most places, giving it a great texture and chew. Gravy was perfect - spice level was exactly the way I like it. Bread was good, giardinara provided a nice acidity and some heat. Only thing that could have made it better was if I'd had time to have two before the show started. It was a weird night, as the cops had to come to get a man out of the bathroom who was sleeping in there, so the service was a little delayed and slow - but it's understandable in a strange situation like that, and everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. First they have a great staff, bartender, waitstaff and chefs. Nice selection of beers on tap plus bottles, some wine and sparkling spirits. The food consist of a large variety of burgers and sides. The onion rings are large and crunchy. Great spot to stop for a quick drink and bite. Plenty is seating for dinner. We usually stop before going to the Genesee to see a show. We love it! read more

Staying in an AIRBNB in the same building, and for the last two nights the bar has been closed when it's supposed to be open. The bartender and buddies are in there drinking, but all the bar stools were flipped at 8:00 pm on a Monday. Well a coworker suggested this place being the best burgers and mushroom and my he's right. Also heard this is a place for politics within Waukegan. Anyways was also amazed that the Amertto stone sour was a generous amount. Never experience having a glass and cost was about the same as a little glass they usually serve it. I had ordered the steak burger and for the price and how much Burger you get is very good I did not order french fries however I did order their mushrooms and the way they prepared and cooked it was delicious. There was not too much bread and the mushrooms were not small at all in some restaurants when it comes to bar food. Their steak burger was also worth the money for how much Burger you got for $12. Fridays they have a fish fry and I will probably come here on Friday for lunch they either have it in Pollock or in COD and I plan to order both to compare the taste. They also have shrimp but I'm not a big fan of fried shrimp nowadays. We had a celebration of life at Greentown last week. I have to say that everyone went out of their way to accommodate us. Vera was so helpful and kind. She was so busy but found the time to help. Went to the restaurant this evening for dinner around 5:15 PM. We've been here a few times over the last 5 years. This time we were extremely disappointed. We stood along with another party waiting for some kind of greeting from staff. Bartender and 3 waitresses looked at us over a period of 15 minutes without a word being said. They wanted nothing to do with one party of 4 and us with 3. We left and went elsewhere to eat. I gave 3 stars because this is NOT the way we've been treated in the past. Looks like a hole in the wall and when I arrived before lunch it was empty... for only a little while though. Now this place is hopping and I know why. Nothing basic about this place! Got a fancy grilled cheddar on rye with some of the best-tasting coleslaw and a ridiculously oversized basket of piping-hot fresh fries. Many things to like about Greentown Tavern. Menu is pretty typical bar food but portions are quite generous and prices very reasonable. The BLT I ordered had what looked like a pound of bacon on it and the onion rings were also huge!! Service was great. Patrons very welcoming. I just moved here Austin Texas and a friend took me here to try the local beer on draft along with the food! Bottom line this place don't play with your tastebuds! I had the Tuna Melt with choice of cheese and bread and it was like nothing I've ever had before so juicy and cheesy my top favorite! One those places that you don't really want to tip because management just doesn't seem to care but the waitress ran her butt off making the best of a truly stupid setup. So you do, but then you know you are just letting management get away with it. Arrived asked the first floor waitress where to sit. Oh, just sit anywhere . No seats on the first floor wandered up two flights of stairs to a cavernous empty room with a few tables and not enough chairs. Scavenged chairs. Waitress showed up for drink order. The canned Heineken showed right away. The glass of hard cider, " we have 7 on draft" took 10 minutes. Why ? The waitress has to run down 2 flights of stairs and then back up two flights. More people from our part showed up. Another 10 minutes. 1 beer, 1 sprite no ice, another 10 minutes. And etc etc etc. Place should closed by the city for cruelty to waitresses. Skip it. read more

AMAZING! This should be called Gastro Pub! The quality of the ingredients is unbelievable! They have fresh soup every day. The best Chopped Salad with fresh ingredients. The Italian Beef with the thin shaved beef slices are fresh made for them from the local butcher and prepared in-house. But the best on a HOT Summer day is a tall glass of their Summer Shandy made with Kona beer and lemonade with Sprite.
