The first time we went was horrible. Horrible service, horrible food. They gave us a gift card to try again. So we went again today. Apparently there was a nationwide outage on some restaurant system which caused issues. Ourr food was better... though they tend to drown anything with a sauce in that sauce. The calamari was just ok, quite rubbery. My husband enjoyed his fish and I had the braised beef. However, we were seated at 6:35. It took a long time before we saw a server. She was really good though... very attentive. However, we didn't get our food till 8pm. My kids did get their food first at about 7:30. The manager and server was good, the food was better but not worth going back for. There always seems to be something wrong when we go. I understand about the system outage, however, it should not have taken that long for our food. If it had based the score off of the first visit it would have been 1 star (accept the manager who was quite kind and helpful)... this one I put up to a 3. read more

I have been to The Shanty a few times now and they never disappoint! This is a staple in the area and there is a reason for that! When I walked in I was greeted with warm smiles and seated quickly. The interior of this restaurant is beautiful, romantic and rustic. The bar area was lively, probably due to the Kentucky Derby. The blood orange old fashioned with gin was very good. The goat cheese wonton appetizer was fantastic. Highly recommended and not overly spicy. The side salad was on the smaller side of the blue cheese dressing was delicious. The country beef tips with the Parmesan mashed potatoes and broccolini was tender, delicious and amble for two people. The side brussels sprouts with bacon pieces were very tasty too. The blueberry lemon crumble cheesecake was recommended and did not disappoint either. I give this place 4.5 stars. I will definitely be back!! read more

This was a great spot up in Kenosha WI. The ambiance of the location is bar but they have good food! It is an upscale place with down to earth prices and lots of food and drink options. I met my daughter and her family here... we had a great time! The service was excellent and the food was good! None of us had a sub par thing while we were here. Wow, I visited for the first time with a couple of friends that go there regularly and I was amazed at the beautiful decorations and memorabilia in this restaurant. My wife and I are celebrating lent so our food was limited as to what we could have to eat. My wife ordered shrimp quesadillas and french fries. my girlfriend and I had the steak quesadillas with wine and let me tell you it was so delicious. Great seasoning and served with salsa, guacamole and sourcream. My girlfriend husband had the patty melt and beer and it looked so good. The young women that served us was super friendly and informed us of the lunch daily special her name was Danie and I hope I got it right. She gave us a little history of the restaurant and after dinner we took a tour of the other rooms filled with stars and chefs that have visited, and the original restaurant which remains connected and in service along with a game room in the back. Food I got a to go order. I ordered at the bar. I had a mai tai while I waited, which was good. I got the sesame encrusted tuna and the tuna was not of the quality I expected. It was cooked properly, but it had a fair amount of connective tissue that I did not expect in quality tuna. It was not sushi or sushimi grade tuna. I ordered the sweet chili sauce on the side and it was on the tuna instead of on the side. Service It took a little while to get attention of a bartender, and it took 35 minutes to get my to go order, due to some kind of snafu with the pasta. but otherwise it was OK. I have always wanted to come here since seeing it on DDD. It was the second time my fiancé & her friend have been here & last time she got a great large salad. I got the Tequila & Orange Salmon. It was extremely delicious. For $28 it isn't absolutely massive but very large salmon piece. I loved it. Came with a great cup of Mushroom soup. My fiancé got the Chicken Parmesan & it was MASSIVE portions. Looked delicious. Even their burgers were real half pound burgers. I swear it may have been larger than half a pound. I would say their flourless chocolate cake was "meh" at best. I personally am not a dessert fan but my fiancé doesn't like to eat alone & since our friends got a dessert to share, she got one as well. So so. The location is good for a family gathering or just going to the bar. The service was a bit slow and the food was average but served hot and the sides are good. This is a huge suburban restaurant with a rustic lodge ambiance (owner calls it a 'culinary village' which is not far off!). There is seating options for days with a central bar area and some side rooms that can host parties and private events. They also have an upstairs area with weekend live music. The vibe is casual and the menu is standard American fare with some Sea Food surprises (fresh fish dishes and a Friday fry) with many locally sourced ingredients. Their Salmon dish was featured on Food Network show DDD so they are serious about quality food. They have a wine tasting room as well as a store that sells olive oil, soaps and miscellanea if you're interested. Given its popularity among the locals, reservations may be necessary for weekends and service can be languid at the tables (eat at the bar if you are in a rush). The location is not too far from the Wisconsin border in Wadsworth so a bit out of the way but worth trying all the same. Went here for an early birthday with my family and had a very pleasant experience. Our server was very well informed with gluten free options on top of everything that was clearly labeled on my the menu. We were were asked for any desserts and I said no thanks since most restaurants don't offer a GF dessert besides sorbet or ice cream. Freshly grated horseradish, cooked to perfection corned beef, create your own omelette that melts in your mouth, and fresh fruit that was not only sweet, but ripe! Went in today after not going for about 8 yrs, hoping it might be better... wrong ! Me and my daughter both ordered steak butt sandwich ... with mushrooms and ajus , thinking traditional open face sandwich on decent bread! With steak and mushrooms ... nope chunk of steak on an untoasted basic white bread slice , and no mushrooms. It was rather awful! Had to flag our waitress down several times as she was over seated and not friendly ! We didn't finish our meals and she never asked if we had an issue! Not sure ill ever go back 2 x was enough ! The restaurant is always spotless and the service is pretty good, even when they're really busy. Lunch or dinner, the place is always hopping! Due to their expansion, you don't usually have to wait long to get seated, though. They have a very eclectic menu with "exotic" dishes, steaks and seafood, or you can just choose from a variety of awesome burgers. Everything I've tried has been delicious and you HAVE to try their "famous" sautéed mushrooms. They have a full bar and "sports area", where you can sit, and enjoy a beer and a game, or you can order a cocktail at your table, to savor while waiting for your meal. We stopped at the Shanty on our way back home from O'Hare. Very cool lodge like atmosphere! It was still decorated for Christmas so it had a great holiday vibe. The have a great menu with an assortment of great seafood and meat entrees. The Whiskey shrimp appetizer was amazing! I also had the Dover sole stuffed with crab and it was so delicious! As a party of two, we were placed near the bar in a high-traffic area, which, combined with the restaurant's characteristically high noise level, made for a less intimate dining experience. Service was prompt and capable, though somewhat impersonal. Culinarily, the meal was uneven but largely successful. The walleye fish fry, a dish I had been anticipating, was merely average and carried a slightly fishy note that raised questions about freshness. In contrast, the eggplant and shrimp dishes were well executed and thoroughly enjoyable, reminding us why we return so often. Taken as a whole, this visit reflected the restaurant's usual strengths with a few minor missteps. The entire experience felt very rushed from start to finish. I ordered the lamb shank which came grossly undercooked and basically inedible. Our waitress did the right thing by notifying the manager and removed the meal from my check. The manager however chose not to come to our table to apologize for their mistake.
