Was recommended this spot - so glad we tried it out. Great old school OG diner with lots of menu options. We came for breakfast and both got scrambles - the Bob and Anne's and the Denver. Delicious. If you like a kick, ask for the house salsa. I saw the seeds so definitely passed but my husband said it was really good. We chose pancakes and English muffins as our side. The muffin was ok but think we'll get the sourdough next time. Coffee was solid for a diner. Warning to anyone with lactose intolerance- they do not have alternate milk options. They also had a huge display of cakes and pies. They looked great so we got a few to try at home. Overall, it was a great experience. Waitress was really nice. It's not an aesthetic spot. It is an original diner that shows its decades of life - worn but clean! Will be back! read more

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The service was extremely slow from the start. After being seated, it took over 10 minutes before anyone even came to take our order. Once we finally placed our order--which was very simple breakfast food--it took almost 30 minutes for the food to arrive. The waitress also seemed very unhappy and unfriendly. She did not come across as welcoming or customer-oriented, which made the experience even worse. The biggest issue came when it was time to pay. Their card machine was down, and there were over eight parties waiting just to pay their bill. Apparently they only had one working register, which created a long backup. Instead of offering a reasonable solution, we were inconvenienced and had to drive to the nearest ATM just to get cash to pay. Overall, the poor service, long wait times, and payment issues made this a frustrating experience. I would not recommend this place unless they improve their customer service and basic payment systems. Ive been to restaurants that are just as busy if not more, and have better and faster service. read more

Parking - Good Bathrooms - Clean Decor - Clean and in good repair (dated but classic diner) Food Preparation - Hit and miss. Coffee - Very Good! I had the sirloin steak & eggs for $15 that came with hash browns and toast. I ordered the steak medium rare but it came out medium well. That was okay enough but something about the quality of the meat made it very tough. The eggs were order over easy. One egg came busted with a hard yolk. Oddly, the sourdough toast seemed off somehow, maybe stale? When in server brought the steak, she heavily encouraged the use of steak sauce (A-1) and also brought another. The hash browns were very good. Thankfully she brought the sauce because it was otherwise not good at all. We found it to be funny that she encouraged the use of sauce, until I got the steak. My friend ordered the corned beef omelette and he had no complaints. They added cheese to his omelette for an additional 90 cents. Coffee was $2.40. While my breakfast was subpar, I still do think this is a good place that just had an off day on my order. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at Bob and Anne's after a morning of hiking and clamming at the near-by Illinois Beach State Park. We arrived just after noon, and the place was pretty full and doing a lively business. If one word could encapsulate the mood, I'd use the word 'giddy' to describe it. A steady stream of diners arrived as we ate, so this place seems to be quite popular! We were seated by a top-knotted hostess and presented with laminated menus! Waters quickly appeared, followed by a basket with individually wrapped rolls and the ubiquitous cellophane-wrapped saltines. The crackers may have been the popular Lance brand. I had a cheeseburger and a cup of soup with fries, while my compadre ordered some sort of Italian-themed sandwich, which came with soup and chips. The soup was very good and hot - it was not sloshing around in some tepidly heated pot waiting to be served. The burger was well done as ordered and came with a generous amount of raw onion. The amount of onion alone was impressive!! The burger was also served with a paper cup of very tangy cole slaw!! A win-win in my book!! This was my first visit here and I'll gladly return when in the area! read more

Love this quaint family Resturant. It has Greek American and Mexican food choices. It has a large breakfast menu. The service is friendly. They ask often if you need anything else. They have delicious soup. I had clam chowder today and a tuna melt with fries . They have dinner entrees also . There is a big breakfast menu also . I will attend this Resturant again. Bob and Ann's in Waukegan Illinois will rob you. The person who answered the phone got my order wrong. I just got off working a 16 hr shift I ordered $53 worth of food I have been coming here for years actually 10 plus years. I politely said that my order was wrong and i also noticed that $53 dollars worth of food could not be 2 bags, thin bags, but i was trying to drop off the food to my kids and then go home to sleep for work. I get a call saying is that everything I said yes then I was told it's missing a whole 2x2 meal so I said ok let me call BOB and Anns in Waukegan, Illinois. I was told I can't get a refund of the 2x2 and they said the cook and the server said they gave me the order. I promise and I swear i didn't get the order and then the guy with the weird mustache said it's nothing he can do for me, but he is the one who gave me the bags of food that was 2 thin bags of food to be precise. Then I was told they will not give me my money back for the 2x2 meal. The person who answered the phone when I called was a woman and she got my order wrong then the guy I guess came in and he denied me because he just got there. no communication bet staff and they are getting your order wrong and if you ask for your money back for whatever part of the order was wrong they will not cook you new food or reimburse you. So my children has to share a meal because Bob and Ann's got my order wrong and took my money with no refund or anything. This place has got really bad the service and the food to the point where they took $10dollars from me but I was coming here for over $10 plus years. This experience was the worst experience at Bob and Ann's I have ever had and I will not get taken advantage of again from this place because I will never ever order from here again. Reminiscent of classic diners! No frills without sassy waitstaff. Our Waitress was Anita, been there for over 15 years. Kind, welcoming & professional with charm. Had a late lunch, my partner has eaten at this establishment, with his wife for many years. We ordered Iced Tea, he had the trout meal with soup and mixed vegetables. I ordered the Turkey mashed potatoes with yellow Gravy, Split Pea Soup, and mixed vegetables. Very satisfying. Looking forward to stopping in again. Cheers & Mangia! read more

Bob & Ann's used to be an excellent go-to restaurant. It was recently sold to an idiot. The food is sub par. The wait staff is excellent but the hostess and management are not. Burgers are tasteless, stir fry dishes are watery with frozen vegetables and plain white rice. Previous owners used fresh vegetables and shrimp and Arborio rice. Fried chicken is also gross. Dry, twice fried and bland. This is an example of a transitional Hispanic owned restaurant that was once a Greek owned and operated one. It will fail like many others in Lake county have. Will not be patronizing this place ever again. read more

Not very impressed. Typical diner style place but the breakfast was not very good. I had a monte cristo sandwich and fries. It was soggy and the fries had no flavor. My wife had an omelet that she said was good, but the hash browns tasted like they were cooked in spoiled old oil. Sorry, not coming back for this one. read more

I've been going to Bob & Anne's since I was a child (25+ years) and I've never experienced what I experienced tonight. It was very busy when we walked in, only two booths available so we figured it might be a minute before we were helped which was fine as we were not in any rush. It was between 5 - 10 minutes before we were acknowledged, but when we were acknowledged, we were met with huffing and puffing from the waitress. After she saw us she began walking away while announcing, "I'll be with you shortly. I don't know when and I don't know how." and threw her hands in the air. She was visibly stressed. Moments later we hear/see the waitress raise her voice at two elderly women who were diagonal from us. She was yelling at the woman to the left saying she always comes in there and gets worked up over everything and that she was busy and needed to wait. After snapping on her she abruptly walked away. We sat there for a few minutes before deciding we didn't want to stay any longer after witnessing the waitress speak to the two women like that. On our way out I personally apologized to the two women on behalf of the waitress. Unfortunately, they told me it wasn't the first time this waitress had done something like that. As we left, I stopped by the girl working the register (who was very sweet and non-confrontational) and asked if the owners were present. She said no so I let her know what had just taken place (although I can't imagine she didn't hear her) and how unprofessional and unacceptable the waitress was. I worked in the restaurant business for years, I get it. It's stressful when you have a packed restaurant and limited workers but what I don't get is snapping on someone like that. To make matters worse, some a--hole rudely interrupts me as I'm talking to her to make it known he wants to pay his bill. I told him I was talking to her at the moment and he could wait but he did not care. He steps right up next to me and throws his card across the glass at her. He was a real treat...not! Bob & Anne's used to be the IT place and now it's gone down hill. I feel bad for the workers who have been there from the beginning and I especially feel bad for the customers who have been treated like what I saw tonight. I tried this place for the first time ever tonight after passing it by on the road a lot - the food is decent, the menu is absolutely huge and you get tons of sides with your meal, I got a side soup, a side salad, entree plus a desert all included with an entree purchase, staff is all friendly, this place can get pretty busy for the dinner rush so expect a longer wait for food if you come during that time - overall a nice place read more

Nothing special going on here. We stopped by because they were open and as it was Labor Day our usual spot was not. Staff was pleasant, but the food was sub-par. The Swiss cheese in our omelet and skillet was not cheese but an imitation processed cheese sauce of sorts. The restaurant is also very tired, seats and tables old and falling apart; huge piles of cigarette butts outside the front door in the parking lot. Generally just not appealing. Had a bad experience for my first visit. We came in at the beginning ​of a rush and were the first to be seated. There was a rush of WPS60 employees who came in AFTER us. We were not even offered drinks for 30 minutes. After asking a young lady she was able to get us water and soda. The waitress took our orders and we were again waiting. Many different large groups ate, boxed food and paid before us. Once we were fed up and walking out, our food was rushed to us. We grabbed boxes because our lunch break was over. We attempted to speak to the hostess who was kind and directed us to the manager. We were told we could leave our food if we didn't want to pay. No one asked for our phone number. No apology was offered. We were instead told that we should have warned them. Each individual group chose an establishment in the area of their own accord. This place has its hits and its misses, and honestly there was a time when I would have avoided it like a root canal and given it negative stars just because all the jackasses from the drama club at my high school made it their HQ. However, I am not in high school anymore, and unlike many of those jackasses, I no longer live with my parents or wear the same leather jacket and bad hairstyle, so I will try to be a little more objective. The food, decor, and service are pretty standard family style restaurant quality. Breakfasts are pretty decent, and the quality of the pickles are much better than they were ten years ago, they actually taste like a pickle and not cucumber dipped in vinegar once. Thumbs up on that one, Bob & Anne's. I came here with my ex's mother the other day (a story for a therapist and not Yelp, probably) because it's near my new job and her house, which is right across the street from my new job (just racked up another thousand dollars at therapy). We had a good time, and it's decent and close, but if I were picking a place, I'd probably go to one of the other similar places in the area. PS- Once they yelled at me for sitting across the booth like it was my couch, which I guess is fine, but I didn't even have my feet on it, and they didn't have to be so mean about it. The wait staff was seriously fantastic. She was great..... but it's pretty much down hill from there. My stomach is usually okay with roadside diner food of the lowest quality but this meal wrecked me. I got the Bob and Anne's skillet and the only good part of it was them nailing some perfect hash browns for it.... but instead of real cheese they're using slices of cheap American cheese, the mushrooms were from a can, and what little meat was in there was as cheap as possible. Even the toast was bad. Cheap margarine smeared on dried out toast sealed the deal. Never again. read more

My dad and I stopped here for lunch while visiting my mother at the hospital. The seats were dirty and ripped, covered in blue duct tape. We both ordered Reuben sandwiches and they were honestly the worst reubens I have ever tried to eat. The rye bread was soggy because the sour kraut was not drained before being put in. Covered on the outside by butter, slathered with mayonnaise on the inside, and to my Reuben horror, a white American cheese single instead of Swiss. The cream of chicken soup was good, but I recommend asking for lemons to add to it. Our server was very kind, but the overall hectic atmosphere and poor quality of food makes me seriously question how this restaurant is still functioning. read more
