    Hot Peanuts

Haven't been to a fruit stand type of business in a long time and recently discovered this one after shopping at Grocery Outlet nearby. This is indeed an old school style fruit stand that has all the items in an open area, and it's definitely not the cleanest establishment for sure. You can visibly tell it hasn't been cleaned in a long time. The pricing here is okay, it's not the cheapest, some things are cheap, while others are a little on the pricey side for certain things. Some things you could definitely purchase elsewhere and it would be cheaper. The customer service is okay, it's the same guy every time we come and he's pretty nice. Always asking how we are doing etc. Just make to always get a receipt, so you can double check to see how much you were charged. Overall, just a 3 start rating for this establishment.

    Love those hand made signs!

I love to stop by the stand. I often combine it with a jog through the AJ's Coffee booth across the street. I love that the owner remembers his customers and talks to them himself. I like to buy whatever local produce he has, and then some things that he has which are special, lavash, labneh, unique dried fruits, special cheese, orange blossom jam, delicate little cookies to have with coffee. He also has a nice selection of dry goods and the staple groceries you'd need for stocking the pantry: eggs, milk, butter, rice, The goods here aren't perfect but they are personal and I really appreciate that in this age of overly mechanized faceless corporations. Sometimes I just a little neighborly shop and this is just that kind of place.

Every time I go they have different international goodies near the check out. Once was crumpets, pomegranate candy and my favorite, Lavash. Of course they had great deals on fruits and veggies. However, my main reason to make the drive is their hot roasted peanuts, $2.99/lb. If you're in the neighborhood, check them out.

This is my second visit and BY FAR better than the first, which was a couple of years ago. I dont know who the gentleman at the register was, but what an awesome guy! They didnt have any basil up front, he went to the back and got some for me! These prices for the stuff I got was INSANELY AWESOME! I got kale, beets, greens, squash, zucchini, basil, garlic, carrots, celery, potatoes, lemons and cilantro for $10!! Holy Toledo Batman! It was totally worth it and these prices are crazy good! If you spend $10 or more, there is no fee to use your card. If you spend less than $10, it's a 50 cent fee. Dont forget to bring your bags! The greens are incredibly affordable and the healthiest for you! I made enough caldo de pollo (chicken soup) with veggies for like 6 people, and it ended up costing me $9 total to make! Tip: I purchased a whole rotisserie chicken from Costco for $5 (deboned it to make chicken soup with it), and spent $4 on the veggies that went into that soup, spending $9 total. And now I can feed an army! Hahaha. I totally recommend this place! ESPECIALLY if you love healthy greens for juicing, sauteeing, etc for next to nothing! I will def be returning!

Love this fruit/ vegetable stand. Owner is proud and care about his produce. Also, have a few grocery items for those moments when making another stop doesn't fit in schedule. Local honey is so good. One of my favorite items are the HOT peanuts. It's a very small family business with great customer service. Old school.

Best fresh produce store in Hayward! Me and my wife love going here to get our fresh produce. The price is very cheap compared to bigger grocery stores. I love that all the fruits, and vegetables are always fresh, and they always have something new depending on the season. The quality is great! The guy at the counter is really awesome! The customer service experience is top notch. That's why me and my wife would always go here for our produce. They have great selections of fruits and vegetables and other stuff just like a mini grocery store. They have selections of different spices and all this rare goodies that you won't find in a bigger chain grocery store. Love this place!

Stopped by on a Monday evening after dinner. The store wasn't too busy this day and we remembered to take our grocery bags. Upon entering, the store was clean and well stocked. The entrance takes you through the produce sections. The veggies were standard veggies like bok choy, cabbages, root veggies etc. There were some things I was looking for that didn't have labels, just "general produce." No biggie, I know how to use my phone to scan images. The produce section also has a freezer section with frozen dumplings, buns, and other stuff. The selection was amazing. The meat department had plenty of options from poultry to beef to seafood. They also had frozen meat and poultry in ice chests. I did come for loose leaf teas and found just what I needed. Everything is really great quality and they have different jujube options. I also loved their frozen ice cream and sweets. We got the viral ice creams to try and they also had tanghulu but only the hawthorn ones. We get to the register and the cashiers were really nice. Overall the experience is great!

The parking lot is not full and there's a lot of space. There are approximately 3 veggies stands, 2 fruits stands, hummus stand, 2 bread stand, meat/fish stand, cheesecake stand, flower stand, and a few food stands. I've found that while this farmers market is small, it usually has what you need. I do find that the produce can be quite pricey! I primarily choose to visit, due to the exceptionally sweet fruit. I rarely find oranges, Asian pears, and apples as sweet. So when I feel like dishing out a few extra bucks for some delicious fruit, I'll treat myself. With that said, holy gosh are the prices expensive! $5/lb for Asian pairs and other citrus fruits. $2.50/lb for napa cabbage(that is usually $.69/lb at the grocery store. Yeah, I get that it's a farmer's market, however, it's no longer what it used to be. We used to solely buy produce at farmers markets, now it's not possible unless you're making a solid income to afford $5/lb oranges. Overall, clean and tidy farmers markets!

Ive…read morebeen told by a lot of folks that the food here is delicious and judging from the line I saw when I came in, it looks to be the case. Note, this is more of a review of the taqueria attached to the market and not the market itself, though it looked like it had all the essentials. Meat wise, it's definitely missing my favorites but in this case, it's actually a good thing because it means I'll order things I dont normally order as much. I went with a chivo (goat meat) taco and a super carne asada (grilled steak) burrito. I also picked up a bag of chicharron con carne (pork cracklings with meat) and a side of refried beans. They lady that took care of me was super nice. I love places like this because it gives me a chance to practice my Spanish. What's so awesome about this place is that they are grilling the meats right in front of you, which makes me want to order everything. I took everything home to the family they all loved it. The steak was super juicy and it might be one of the better carne asada I had. Everything tasted super fresh. The chivo taco was very moist and delicious as well. As for the chicharrons, it's chicharrons, it's almost always going to be good and the beans, were delicious as well, wish I ordered some arroz on the side to go with it. I bought the pre-packaged chicharrons by the checkout but if you want yours a little warmer, you can buy at at the meat department in the back of the store. All in all, Im definitely coming back and looking forward to trying their other meat options like al pastor and barbacoa. Given how small their work space is and how busy they might be, be prepared to give some extra time, especially if you are like me and bringing the food back home.

The location has been consistent in delivering great food--I always get either their carnitas cheese fries or their barbacoa cheese fries with a bit of consommé (broth) added to it. Their cucumber limon agua fresca always hits, and I recommend their sandia fresca when it's available. Over the years, it's been a place where I have positive memories, as it carried my wife and me through tough days back in college. This was, and still is, a great and affordable meal that acts as both lunch and dinner due to how generous the portion is. The only caveat I have since trying the location after a few years of not stopping by is that they changed their French fries. I think right now they cut potatoes and deep-fry them, versus what it was before, where they were more "restaurant style" fries. The texture is slightly different; however, the flavor has been consistent and still tastes like what it was 10 years ago. A true hole in the wall--the only issue is parking can be quite hard to find, lol! Service is fast if you make it before peak lunch or dinner hours, haha! Love this place.

I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff!
