Learned about Greenbergs from John T Edge on TrueSouth. It was an add, but he says he'd been getting these ever since he's a kid and it's a mainstay on his Thanksgiving table. I figured it had to be at least ok if he's giving that kind of testimonial, so we gave it a try this year. Wow, we LOVED it. Incredibly smoky flavor and smell, but not overwhelming. The smokiness stays with you, but in a good way...I keep smelling it on my fingers for hours no matter how much handwashing you do. It arrives as described in a bag and partially frozen and as they say, you don't need to do anything and just serve room temperature. We decided to gently warm the turkey in the oven with residual heat and it was perfect. But I've also eaten it cold on sandwiches which was equally great. I'm going to use the smokey carcass to make a nice turkey soup. Turkey is well seasoned, smokey goodness and it couldn't be simpler. There's also a surprising amount of meat on a relatively small bird, part of it is they don't sell it with the wings, so it's not counted in the weight. Easily ran by in town; picked up a requested 'fresh one' - said they were all fresh for pick up - quality was excellent. The meat moist and tender down to the bones - which we wish we'd saved to cook with. Next time maybe. They help load your car if needed - such a great staff. This is a reputable business. They processed my order quickly, and I received it on time even though they only had six days or so before the holiday to process and deliver it. As the reviews state, most people either love it or dislike it entirely. My small party of five did not prefer the intense smoky flavor. The turkey was moist (served cold as recommended) and very well done if you like strong smoky flavor. We will not be ordering again, but it was an adventure to try it. Later, my daughter-in-law made enchiladas with the leftovers which they said worked to soften the smokiness and they found the enchiladas delicious. I will be doing the same. I ordered a 13 pound turkey and received a 13.5 pound turkey for the price. It looked much bigger than the 14 pound turkey I saw in the store. Even given that the store one was raw and the smoked one was cooked via smoking. Not sure if smoking lowers the weight. When I received the Turkey two days before the holiday, it was mostly still frozen. I let it thaw in the fridge as recommended. You might want to factor in the thawing time when you choose a delivery date. They recommend three days in the fridge to thaw for a turkey 13 pounds. Obviously a bigger bird would need longer. We drove to Tyler from Burleson in early November to get our 1st Greenberg Turkey. The lady that helped us was friendly and great on helping us decide what size we needed. We followed her instructions on preparing it for Thanksgiving day. It was the hit of our dinner. We loved the smoked taste and was not the least bit dry. May be more expensive than if we had smoked one ourselves but soooooo much better. Really worth it!!! read more

This great product has become too pricy. I have had dozens of Greenberg turkeys over the years. Mu orders have always arrived timely and in good condition. More importantly they consistently tasted delicious. Inflation has caught up with them however. I have ridden out many years of price increases, but this year I decided that the cost of their turkeys has exceeded they value of what I receive. We were excited to try this. Unfortunately it really was uneditable. It was so intensely Smokey. We had 8 people try it and we all said it tasted like an ashtray. The turkey looks like it has emphysema. We feel awful throwing it away so going to bring it to some open land for the hawks and animals. read more

we ordered a turkey from them for thanksgiving based on the review they got in the nyt. very disappointing! the turkey looked like something from a mummy's crypt, all black and shrunken. not dark brown, full on black. the meat was dry, and it tasted as though it had been rescued from a burning building after it was buried in salt. no sign of the green rub they supposedly used. no flavor at all beyond burnt rubber and salt. giving 2 stars because delivery was punctual. read more

We ordered our turkey 11/7, but unfortunately did not receive our turkey in time for Thanksgiving. In fact, we actually didn't receive it until late the day after Thanksgiving, so much for "Turkey day!" So I ordered this Turkey Tuesday night after watching a show that highly recommended these turkeys. So I decided this year I'll give it a try and I'm so glad I did. It was a easy way to get my smoked Turkey instead of smoking one myself this year. I can't believe how fast it showed up and how it was still cold when it arrived. So of course I had to try a slice and omg I'm telling ya it's one of the best Turkeys I've ever had. It's fully cooked and ready when your ready to eat it. I stuck mine in the freezer until Monday then I'll let it come to room temperature. I can't wait to dig into this great smelling bird. I've been craving smoked Turkey sandwiches after thanksgiving. This is our first time having smoked turkey for Thanksgiving. I didn't even know such a thing existed until I saw one at Sams club. Unfortunately they sold out when I was ready to buy. Thanks to the interwebs, I found Greenberg and they ship to your house! Of course I was nervous ordering something perishable off the internet because so many things could go wrong. The turkey came the day before thanksgiving (shipped out on Monday via UPS 2nd day air, arrived in Virginia on Wednesday afternoon). We kept it in the fridge until ready to serve the next day per the instructions. I chose to warm it even though the serving suggestion said to eat it chilled. I saw this company on Instagram and decided to outsource the turkey for an easy Thanksgiving. Ordering was very easy. I loved the option to pick my size as I was only feeding a small group. The turkey arrived on the date I selected. It was packaged nicely. OMG I could smell the smoked flavor through the box. The directions provided were very clear. I allowed the turkey to thaw in the fridge a few days and it was perfect for Thanksgiving. Wow it was a beautiful bird that provided a gorgeous presentation. Oh the smell and taste of a great smoked turkey, without the mess of doing it yourself. Thanks to my brother in law who ordered one for Christmas. He works for UPS and has been delivering them all over the DFW area. He said he had enough after one day when he had to deliver 15 turkeys, and made an order for two that evening. I read some of the Yelper review (thanks Yelpers) and let the turkey warm at room temp for about 4 1/2 hours (our turkey was 8.8 lbs). Time to carve, the meat was very easy to slice, and thank goodness, plenty of dark meat. The meat was tender, juicy, and we have enough left overs for round two Christmas dinner today. My dad sent us an 11 pound Greenburg Turkey for Christmas. It made it here from Tyler all the way to Issaquah, Washington. The delivery guy wanted to eat the box it came in. My only suggestion to those who are getting one. Be sure to have a roasting pan of some type in order to put the turkey in the fridge to prevent it from leaking. I'm sure they ship it frozen and after the 2,200 mile trip it defrosted a bit. This was the first time my husband had tried a Greenburg Turkey. Got a 13 lb one and was very disappointed this year with it.. It looked great on the out side. But, when you pull the skin back there was no pink color from the smoke. The meat had very little smoke taste to it and was a bit dry. They must have cooked it at a higher temp this year which gave it the poor quality. read more

Been picking up a 13 lb. Greenburg turkey for a few years now right at Thanksgiving. I go right to the Greenburg facility and I pick up my turkey and I am in and out of there in less than 5 min. The people working there are so nice and the smell of smoked turkey is just amazing! If they would let me I could just stand inside and just absorb that great smoke smell for hours! This is my first time trying/ordering Greenberg Turkeys on the recommendation of my co-worker who is from Tyler, TX. I'm going to get straight to the review... The turkey came more than 6 days before Xmas which is fine, because the instructions say if your not going to eat it in a timely manner before the 6-8 days (I believe) to freeze which I did. I took the turkey out of the freezer on Fri and had it in the fridge until it was "time".. After reading other reviews I was a bit nervous that the turkey wasn't going to be good.. So I bought me a whole chicken to cook in the event that this wasn't good, that way I didn't have a ruined Xmas dinner.. On 24 Dec 17, I took it out of the fridge to slice and try a piece to see if the turkey was still a "go" for tomorrow or if I was going to season/bake my chicken? Sheesh... The negative reviews were correct! - The turkey was too salty - The turkey had an artifical smokey taste/pungent after taste - Just by handling the turkey, your hands will smell like artificial smoke for hours on end w/ a possibility of it linguring into the next day (yes! Even after a shower/bath). I will not be eating this for Xmas, I will either give this whole 6lb turkey to my co-worker (lol), or I will slice it up and hand out to the less fortunate around town as a meal.. You win some and lose some! I will not be purchasing another Greenburg anything again.. read more
