I had the baked potato (which was not seasoned or anything but cooked well), the hamburger steak (beef gravy was a little salty/steak was okay), rolls (overcooked), and pinto beans (they were good). Then my partner had the green beans (amazing! Some of the best I've ever had), pork chops (he said were awesome, I didn't try them), and mashed potatoes (pretty large order, instant, but still really good and the gravy was also awesome per him). The service was very friendly, and the view was nice. The restaurant was really clean and so were the bathrooms. The tea was alright, but the rootbeer was really cold and good. Wifey had Turkey sub special with real turkey NOT lunchmeat... real good 2 days later came for breakfast was great again. I hugely enjoyed dinner here. We had a soft pretzel that was shockingly good as an appetizer, and then two lovely southern meals that tasted exactly how you would want them to. The platonic ideal of classic chicken fried stale, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and the like. We got to sit on a wooden balcony over a river, which was lovely, and our waitress was very nice and enthusiastic. The negative reviews for this place surprise me! After a day of gallivanting thru the area we found ourselves looking for a spot for dinner - decided on the Greenbrier Grille which was the first place we saw upon crossing the bridge. We sat out on the covered deck along the river & watched the ducks while we waited for our server. On our quest to review the top 50 WV hotdog list, we came to Greenbrier Grill. This has to be one of the best hot dogs in West Virginia. It is definitely in our top 5. However, all the food looked so good and the portions were huge. Our waitress was the only down side, but everybody has bad days now and then. The outdoor seating area along the river was tranquil. I stayed for one night at the Lodge since I was in the area and prefer to stay at independently owned hotels when given a chance. The room was spacious but definitely dated. The bathroom on the other hand seemed to be recently remodeled and very nice. The bed was comfortable and the area was quiet at night. Its a secure floor of the building, accessible only if you have the door code, which you get when you check in. Price was reasonable for the stay. read more

This is my very first negative review, ever! My hope is the owner/manager of the restaurant reads this and fix the problems. It was Monday, May 27th, 2024. We arrived at the restaurant just after 9 AM. Left right at 10. I have never even complained about a meal, much less have a meal comped. With that, In my 50 years, This was the worst meal and service I have ever encountered. I've never had raw food set down in front of me. Everything was cold. From the pancakes, to the eggs to the toast. Requested the hash browns well down. Received cold partially frozen potatoes. The bacon was raw and not edible. After alerting the waitress, she immediately disappeared with only saying ok. After about 10 minutes, I interrupted the waitress to ask for the check she was waiting on someone else. She brought the check. As she was ringing it up I asked why she brought the plates with the hash browns cold after requesting them well done. She snapped and said I would have to ask the cook. So she wasn't going to answer my question for her. So I will ask the cook why send out raw food. Cook comes out saying the meal is free. I responded I don't want free meal. I began to ask why she would send out out raw food, (especially after requesting the hash browns well done) to be cut off by her asserting she has comped the entire ticket. I responded whatever, just wanted to know why it's ok to serve raw food. read more

This is for sure a down home, relaxed place to eat. Large menu with lots of options - salads, hoagies, sandwiches, trout, steak, pizza, and a nice selection of items on the kids menu too. I'm surprised by the negative reviews of this place. We've eaten here three times, and every time the food is delicious and served quickly, the service is fast and friendly, and the prices are reasonable. There is a small salad bar inside with limited but fresh options, and the special of the day is always delicious and served quickly. Sitting on the deck near the water is a fun and relaxing atmosphere, and duck food is available for 50 cents per bag to feed the ducks on the water below. Definitely fun, good food, and a kid favorite. read more

Came right in and the staff were very welcoming to us. They were full but we were seated right away. I enjoyed my meal.

Upon entering, no one greeted us or gave us any instructions. We had to figure out for ourselves how to sit outside. Ducks wandered everywhere. Waitress seemed put off to have to serve us. Pulled pork sandwich was good. Mushroom Swiss Burger was overdone, dry, tasteless, and had only 4 mushrooms slices on it. When I complained, waitress just said sorry and rang up our bill. read more

Greenbrier grille and lodge review: would not recommend: I booked a room at this lodge for marathon weekend. When we arrived, after a 5 hour drive, we were told we were not on the reservation list. After some searching, they found our reservation, sent us to our room, which was not cleaned from the previous visitors. We returned to the desk, asked for a clean room and were told they sent us to the wrong room and gave us a new room. We went to that room and found it was also not cleaned. We returned to the desk yet again and were told they could not do anything because they couldnt get in touch with the manager. While we were waiting for them to contact the manager, i called every lodging option within an hour drive. Everything was booked solid due to the marathon. By the end of the evening, greenbrier lodge pretty much told us they cannot help us. Yet sometime after we settled in for the night in the car, they called back to say they just happened to find a room that is clean. At this point we declined. I would not recommend this lodge and will never attempt to book here again read more

I went in with modest expectations having read recent reviews, and decided to order strategically to try to get a good result, selecting the items that were least amenable to being served from a can. It worked. I ordered the West Virginia Original, a skillet of spiced potatoes, kielbasa, green peppers, mushrooms, and red onions, with cornbread and broccoli as sides. The Original was flavorful and piping hot, the broccoli was steamed and while perhaps frozen, not from a can, and the cornbread was as good as I make at home. It also proved to be a filling choice; I rarely have leftovers after a day spent outdoors, but did after eating here. Fortunately, the remainder of the Original made for an excellent breakfast the next day. Service and speed was also perfectly fine on the Thursday night I ate here. Maybe it helped that it was after 7 PM, maybe they've just hired a few more people. read more

The servers were kind, but certainly overworked. It took over an hour to get our food, which I don't understand because nothing was home cooked. The green beans were definitely straight out of a can, the corn had been frozen, the mashed potatoes were tasteless - like frozen ones, the baked potato must have been baked hours ago and was hard inside, and the gravy was canned. Looks can be deceiving about this place. As an out of town or from the outside it looks to me like this place might have generic food but is anything but this. We decided to stop by and give this place a try and were not disappointed. It was a nice day out so we were able to sit on the back deck overlooking the river. They didn't have much of a selection of beer unfortunately but the sweet tea was good. We started with boneless wings that were great, with even better ranch. I had the river burger and curly fries and both were delicious. My girlfriend had the Cuban and onion rings and loved those too. Terrible experience, one waitress the other one was around someplace, but then the place emptied out and the waitresses stayed in the back when they delivered my food I got French toast I put two butter patties on top of the French toast. They didn't melt at all then I also had sausage and gravy which was cold and there was enough gravy for half of a biscuit and they give you two biscuits. Then I got three eggs over medium and the eggs were literally almost cold, lukewarm at best, I took the French toast back. I stood back by the waitresses were in the back and she kept talking and talking and talking not acknowledging me at all. Finally, I just took French toast back to my seat because I wanted to get it microwaved, but I said, forget it I still in front of the register I had to wait in front of the register. The place is almost empty literally I was an imposition to her day, but I took the highroad. I gave her a three dollar tip which I should've given her three cents but I'm done this is definitely got to be the only place in town to eat because their customer service is horrible and their food is terrible. My wife and I had heard that the food was good there. We drove over there for dinner. I had the kilbasa which is sautéed with mushrooms, pepper's, onion and potatoes. My side dish was homemade mac&cheese, cornbread and sweet tea. The meal was excellent, best cornbread I've ever had. My wife had 6 jumbo shrimp with fries, coleslaw and a roll with sweet tea as well. Great people. Great food. FEED THE DUCKS!!! Seating outside during the summer. The manager/chef (Tena)is one of the sweetest people on earth. Home made deserts and home style country cooking. Locals that come in every day for coffee, lunch, or dinner. DAILY SPECIALS! There are also 5 rooms upstairs and a cottage across the street to rent.
