We stopped at the Country Cafe on our way out of Warm Springs. We had been staying at the Omni, which is really pricey and wanted an easy and inexpensive breakfast before hitting the road. I think our total bill was less than a single plate at the Omni, for 2 breakfasts and 2 beverages. I think we were in around 10 AM on a Saturday. There was one server and maybe one person in the kitchen, so service was really slow. I had eggs, toast, hashbrowns and orange juice. Decent sized portions, really attractive prices, everything was hot. I love a good diner so was overall a happy camper. I think they prefer cash, but they did have a card option. read more

This is an unassuming place, but the food is above average. The guy loading up our luggage at the Homestead gave it a big thumbs up, so we and our friends gave it a shot. Went with my wife and another couple, and we had lunch. First, was surprised to find a salad bar - who knew they were still around! And it wasn't bad. My only suggestion to management is to not shred the lettuce for the salad bar like you're using in your sandwiches. It's better to be pulled apart. My buddy, George, ordered a patty melt with onion rings. It earned a B+. His wife ordered the day's special - an old school grilled cheese sandwich and a trip to the salad bar. She gave me some of the grilled cheese...winner winner chicken dinner! My wife had the pork bbq sandwich. It was recommended by the waitress and I also got a bit of that, too. B at best. I had the salad bar. Small assortment for a salad bar, but just enough to be the hit of the day. All of the dressings were home-made, too! I say some breakfasts going out, and the portions were big. Such a great roadside diner. Pies are delicious and if your lucky you can get one or two to go. You will be glad you did, you have to be wanting to come here if your not fortunate enough to live nearby this clean, well ran eatery. Catfish is so good and served up crispy and hot, with a side of tarter sauce. Save room for peanut butter pie, my grandma always said after poking my belly before a meal, "Better not forget, that's where your pie goes!" So glad to get to return, eat local. We were in Bath County for a few days and heard some good things about the food at "Country Cafe" from people who live there, so decided to try it. I am glad we did. At lunch I chose their regular cheeseburger (1/4 pound) and added an order of french fries. The burger was hand-patted, cooked well, was juicy, and had a good flavor. The french fries were also very good, as was the sweet tea, which was brewed and sweetened perfectly. My husband ordered their fried catfish, which came with a choice of a baked potato or french fries, along with a side order of coleslaw. The catfish was fresh and they batter dip it themselves before they fry it. He said that it was some of the best fried catfish that he had ever had -- very moist and delicious, not the least bit over cooked. We ordered the coconut custard pie and coconut cream pie to go, to eat later. I will say we did not like either of those pies. The coconut custard pie had too much nutmeg and not enough coconut (really not much of a coconut flavor). The coconut cream pie was very unusual and the crust was actually pressed, sweetened grated coconut (bag-type) -- not a true pastry crust, nor did it have the typical filling or a meringue topping. I do not believe either of these pies were home made and both were overly sweet and flavorless. The next day we went to Country Cafe for breakfast. I had sausage gravy over one biscuit (children's size) and my husband had scrambled eggs, ham and toast (pics below). Breakfast was good. The prices were reasonable and the food was good, except for those pies. If there again, before ordering a dessert, I will make sure to ask specific details about the desserts. read more

Came here for lunch but currently they only do to go only. Staffs are very friendly, there are several picnic tables to the side of the restaurant with some shade so we sat there. It is a typical diner food but it is nice and fresh. I had a salad and it is fresh, my kids got the chicken sandwich and chicken strip and they both happy with their meal. read more

The buffet is $30.00 at the Omni for breakfast...you can pay under $6.00 for breakfast at the Country Cafe! The cafe is 1 1/2 miles from The Homestead. I had the flatiron steak and eggs because it was the waitress's recommendation. Honestly this was one of my favorite breakfast meals I have had in a long time. My wife had the omelette with veggies (no cheese) and didn't seem to enjoy it as much. I think it was more the lack of cheese than anything else. I wish I could give a half star more. My party went here for breakfast three mornings in a row and came away happy each time. Ok, Country Cafe is going to be what you think it is. It's a little roadhouse cafe with quotes on the whiteboard like "God has unlimited anytime minutes." But you won't be disappointed with the food *at all.* We went after running a trail race in nearby Douthat State Park, and were staying at the Vine Cottage Inn B&B down the road in Hot Springs. Most of the other dinner options were either upscale or needed reservations. So we hit the country cafe, had a chef salad, some Sam Adams', delicious ribs, BBQ chicken, rolls, cornbread, slaw, mashed potatoes, all that good stuff. Everything was solid, and no-BS (by that I mean, the plate of ribs wasn't garnished with anything at all beyond a little sprig of parsley). But the stand out was the pie. Our family went there for lunch on Sunday while staying at Homestead after seeing the reviews here. Good thing too because on Sundays, they close at 2pm. Food is as good as what most people are saying. We ordered a fried catfish platter, which was crispy with just the right amount of fish. We all enjoy getting small bites from my husband and loved it! It came with wonderfully creamy cole slaw. My Reubin sandwich was also good-- hot and crispy but a little bit saltier than how I'd have liked. A thicker sliced bread would have made it perfect. We also ordered pulled pork BBQ sandwich, which was really good too with coleslaw slathered inside but a little bit too sweet. A bacon cheeseburger was excellent with all fresh fixings and french fries were hot and crispy. A tuna melt was good too but again, I think their bread slice must be too thin because with cheese, the sandwich was little bit on a salty side, although tuna salad itself tasted wonderful. What we loved about the most was the price! Our family of five enjoyed a great lunch for less than $40. How can you beat that? We'll definitely go back and perhaps try dinner next time as their weekday specials sound really good. read more

Stayed at the Homestead and had a horrible dinner the night before at Sam Snead's tavern. We were hungry for a good cheap breakfast. The buffet at the resort was a bit pricey. We were welcomed by a typical country diner. Just what we needed! We had biscuits and gravy, home fries, and eggs. The biscuits and gravy were great. A serving fills a large dinner plate. The bill was only about $20 for a massive breakfast. Its only a short drive from the resort (a mile maybe) and the service was good. They have lunch and dinner but didn't try it. This was a really good southern breakfast. I got the Hungry Man breakfast, 2 eggs over medium with hash browns, bacon and a biscuit. Also a side of fruit. The breakfast was a hearty amount. I was full after the hash browns, eggs, fruit and a slice of bacon, so I tucked my remaining two slices of bacon into the biscuit and got a wrapper to take it to go, and when I ate that on the road trip back home... Mmmm. That was the best bacon biscuit. Perfect and not too greasy. The quality of the fruit cup was great, I expected something not quite so fresh, but it was great. Service was really good too. A very personable waitress who took good care to keep our coffee full and hot and make sure we were satisfied. You should know going in here that your food may be a bit on the greasy side (though there appeared to be lighter options on the menu, I like a nice solid breakfast though), but with a name like Country Cafe what else would you expect?
