We often like to explore new courses, so my teenage son and I made our way over to Great Cove. If you want a fancy country club, this is not necessarily what you are looking for. But I love and support local golf courses, especially those that offer great customer service and sincerely appreciate and care about their guests. When we drove up, we were greeted by the President of the club board. She was friendly and personal and made us feel welcome. To add to our day, this was a fun course to play with a lot of variety. Some short, some long, a few good dog legs, and some water obstacles. Not bad for a decent price, including cart. The tee boxes were well-taken care of and the greens trimmed and allowed for some decent putting, though it is admittedly early in the year. Nonetheless, this place was warm, welcoming, fun, and affordable, making a perfect day for a father/son outing.

A parking lot filled with every car I want. Mercedes SL (insert number) Acura (Insert model) Lexus IS blah blah And there was a bunch of Infinitis... which they can keep. I don't like Infinitis. I think the shape of them is odd and... ugly. Anyways, I was there for a fundraiser so I set up my table and began to do my thing... after my thing was done, I got a little of the County Club treatment as I sat down to lunch in the club room and dined on some of the club kwizine. That's the fancy french way to spell it right? A fresh salad lightly dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. Full of ridiculously fresh lettuces. It was all the salad truly needed ( and had) cause the lettuce was so freakin' good. I could definitely detect some little gem and butter lettuce in the mix. There was a choice of hamburger or chicken. The chicken was in a light broth of old bay, bbq sauce, and something else which is escaping me. The chef behind the table cut the little knobby bone ( the bone that connects the breast with the wing) off of the breast after I picked it from the chafing dish... begging the question... why did they leave that on? But I think it oddly made some sort of weird difference. Well, whatever they did, the chicken was super tender and flavorful and the buns they had were crucially delicious. It was a spectacularly simple and delicious meal. I loved it. Everyone at the country club was extremely pleasant and attentive. Servers made sure that I had enough to drink and cleared my plate away quickly. The worst part of my experience was leaving the country club, as I know that I am very unlikely to back anytime soon. We saw lots of deer in the neighborhood and stopped a few times to let them cross the road. There's a golf course and club house with a restaurant but we didn't check those out during our visit. Only downside is many of the streets didn't have sidewalks so walking the neighborhood seems a bit iffy since you have to walk in the street. I enjoyed staying here and would stay again if I'm back in the area.

When we checked in for the course, we were informed that there is a $39 fee for a rider, in addition to the golf fee of $130 per person. While I was informed ahead of time that the $39 fee existed, I will say that of all of the high end courses I've ever played, this is the first course that ever actually enforced it. Not the best value, but I was fully aware of their policy, so I cannot say I wasn't informed. After checking in, we ordered food, and was told it would be ready by our tee time. When we arrived to pick up our food, I was told the food was just being boxed up, and charged for food that had not even been started. 10 minutes later I come to find out that the food had not been started, and I'm now 10 mins late for my tee time. After asking for a refund, I rush outside to hit my first tee shot, only to realize 2 mins later that they had shortchanged me by $13 dollars. Overall, the course is nice, and is in good shape. Having driven 3 hours from Philadelphia, I would have expected a better experience. If the golf and atmosphere had been better, I would have definitely been inclined to come back. After this experience, I would not spend the time, or money coming back. While it's hard to put into words how truly bad the experience was, the overall lack of professionalism and indifference to our concerns is among the worst I've seen at a high end course.

Many holes have houses on both sides, not just houses here and there on the boundaries, but to the left and to the right on many holes. The neighboring houses scuttled many potentially scenic views. Though their clubhouse had been burnt down recently and the state took away their alcohol permit, and they do not serve hot food the course is maintained meticulously. The staff was more than polite. The gentlemen whom I called advised my party to bring our own libations. Bringing your own beer to a golf course is a money saver all day long. Though I could not praise the conditions of the course itself enough, the houses are far too close the the course for my liking. Despite this distraction, I will likely come here again.

Truly a fantastic experience here. Showed up on a Friday in June and we were able to get out…read morepretty quickly. Easily one of the cheapest rounds (9 holes) that I have ever paid for and I enjoyed every bit of it. Fun track that is very walkable and is tree lined, but there is also space to miss. Also they fairway cut everything, so there is no rough to deal with. They also do a great job of cleaning up below the trees, so it's very playable from everywhere. Pushed up greens that are challenging to hit, but the short grass around them help. The sixth hole (I believe) is a dogleg left par 5 that I would love to play again and again. If it were anywhere closer I would not think twice about joining. I hope to be back soon! Be sure to download the map of the area before coming here as I lost cell service on the way.

The new pro is very rude. I checked in as a member on a…read moreSunday, the pro ran out of the office, asked the clerk if I had the 7 day membership the man said yes I checked it. The pro then asked my name, pulled out a list and double checked it. He was very rude to the gentleman working there. They raised the cost of the 7 day membership from $300 to $750. Jacked up the cart fees $20 more than last year and $30 more for guests. You now have to get a bucket of balls from the pro shop to use the driving range which is included in the membership. You are no longer allowed to bring your own Gatorade, you have to purchase it from the course. Here's the real crime. Hot dogs are $8, a 20 oz rootbeer $4, a very small bag of chips $2.50. 4 hot dogs with chips and one root beer $50. You get a 15% discount with the membership but I was told that don't apply at the shack after the 9th hole. So $50 for 4 hotdogs and to add insult to injury the hot dogs were cold and the rolls were stale. Rocky Gap has made it nearly impossible for the locals to afford to play the course they've been playing since it was built, then to prohibit bringing a Gatorade or a snack so they can rape you with their products at absorbent prices and serve the food cold. This outing was a slap in the face from checking in time and just got worse as the day went on. The course was in decent shape other than the bunkers which were horrible and some construction on hole #7, its temporarily a par 3 during construction. Despite the efforts of the golf pro to be as rude as he can, we had a beautiful day and enjoyed golfing with good friends. The greed of our local golf course of so many years is truly shameful. Most of the seniors I know can no longer afford the membership and the $55 fee as a guest limits them to one round a year if they're lucky. SHAME ON YOU ROCKY GAP You're not a Country Club, stop charging like you are one!
