We often like to explore new courses, so my teenage son and I made our way over to Great Cove. If you want a fancy country club, this is not necessarily what you are looking for. But I love and support local golf courses, especially those that offer great customer service and sincerely appreciate and care about their guests. When we drove up, we were greeted by the President of the club board. She was friendly and personal and made us feel welcome. To add to our day, this was a fun course to play with a lot of variety. Some short, some long, a few good dog legs, and some water obstacles. Not bad for a decent price, including cart. The tee boxes were well-taken care of and the greens trimmed and allowed for some decent putting, though it is admittedly early in the year. Nonetheless, this place was warm, welcoming, fun, and affordable, making a perfect day for a father/son outing.

It's off of either 70 or Route 40, but it's an easy drive coming from most directions, as long as you don't hit any traffic. It was a great experience from beginning to the end, even with temps in the high 90s! The course is beautifully maintained, with some challenging fairways and the greens were fast today. The staff was friendly and check-in was quick. The clubhouse is pretty huge and has the gigantic windows that overlook the course. The cart lady was very nice and checked in on us a few times throughout our outing I can't say anything about the pace of place because we were out there on a weekday, during a heat wave, so there weren't a lot of other golfers. From what I've been told, the weekdays aren't usually that busy and definitely cheaper than other courses in the area, which is crazy. The only reason for giving it 4 stars is because maintenance was out the day we were and they were on quite a few fairways the same time we were so they seemed annoyed that we were in their way and sometimes we had to wait for them to clear out. This may have been a one off so when I go back, I'll update my review.

You can adjust the tee height with the same ease. If you're hitting a fairway shot or putting, you just move it around. Yes, you putt which is also new to me at sims. We set our 'cede' putt distance to within 7 feet which helped speed the game along a bit. You can also take a mulligan! I went with someone who had been before and explained it to me however the staff were all very friendly and ready to help. Matt, the owner, came over several times as he heard us chatting about options for play. Very helpful! I asked him about bringing a group of ladies here and will explore that option for sure! We had Barbie helping us with drinks. We didn't eat this time but hope to next time. Draft beer was tasty. I asked about happy hours or specials and they don't have any. Make a reservation online before you go. You need about an hour a player to play 18 holes. You can extend if there isn't a group behind you. We had to since we couldn't get started on time (see note below). Pricing is different depending on the time of day. Check the website. I went with two other people and had two beers. We golfed for 3.5 hours. I paid $86, finished 18 holes and felt perfectly tired and happy when I was done. Hope that's helpful! A few points for the owners: Please allow people to enter 15 minutes before their start time. We couldn't get into the building until our reservation had already started taking away about 15 minutes from our play. We had to wait outside in the cold since we didn't know about that and dutifully got there 15-20 min early. Please get club stands so golfers with bags that don't have kickstands don't have their clubs falling over during play. Is it possible to put the golf and the drink/food on separate checks? The implication is you should tip on the full total which is misleading. I'll be back!

I was living in California and every time I'd get back to the east coast, she'd suggest going here. Unfortunately, we never got to experience a visit here together after she suddenly passed from an aggressive cancer. It became my goal to come here and visit with her on my mind. Years later, I moved back to the east coast and booked a random weekend just for fun. I'm married now with kids so we made the drive here to experience all that the Omni had to offer. I've stayed at other Omni resorts and I wavered on what this place would land on ratings wise. Overall, it's a beautiful hotel with a lot of history that I loved learning about. My kids absolutely loved the indoor pool. It is as gorgeous as the photos look. It's a nice spot, especially when it's a chilly Pennsylvania day like when we visited. With that said, there isn't a ton to do here with kids. It was the perfect amount of time for us, but met other families who were struggling to keep their own kids occupied. There are some really nice trails around the property, which are perfect. And you can also check out some free toys and games from one of the shops inside. That said, if you don't have great weather, options can be limited. We didn't get a chance to visit the spa, but the space looks amazing from what I saw online. The rooms were spacious and well set up for a family. We ate at a few of the restaurants on site. Service was mostly on point though the tavern was really off. Our server was perfectly friendly but pretty much messed up the entire order. I would go back but not sure I'd be eager to rush back anytime soon. We did enjoy the experience but I think a few bumps could be worked out such as helping with our luggage upon arrival. We were able to valet but couldn't find anyone to help us with the bags and the rolling carts don't easily go over the front door to get inside. Between me and my partner, we were able to make it work. But it's those small details that make a property really stand out.

Afterward, we had lunch at the Frontier Tavern, and everything was fantastic. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the food was absolutely delicious, and the service was outstanding. Every member of the staff we interacted with went above and beyond to make our visit special. From the spa to lunch, the entire experience was memorable and truly exceeded our expectations. We saw lots of deer in the neighborhood and stopped a few times to let them cross the road. There's a golf course and club house with a restaurant but we didn't check those out during our visit. Only downside is many of the streets didn't have sidewalks so walking the neighborhood seems a bit iffy since you have to walk in the street. I enjoyed staying here and would stay again if I'm back in the area.

More room right off the tee than you would initially think. But this course is noticeably better from the blue tees than from the tips. Several blind tee shots from the back tees, the biggest being 17. It could easily become a fantastic drivable par 4 with water left and OB right. The other thing I would change is making those yardage features much smaller. They were trimmed recently and dozens of golf balls could be found by looking into them. I've lost a few in them over our rounds here. But I love the vibe here and welcome any opportunity to come back. And go see Robin Beach, their new pro. He's the man!

The course is always in great shape, even during the winter months and pretty difficult. There's opportunities to score if you know the course but miss your shot and you can end up in a bad spot and struggling to save par. A full driving range, putting green and chipping green. The only issue is there are no lights on those facilities so trying to get out there and practice during the winter months can be tough and they're closed on Mondays. They've done a great job with upgrading the pro shop and always having new products in there. The restaurant and Tavern is beautiful and I'm sure will be a great place to hang out and have dinner and a beer after a round during the summer months. If you've considered joining I'd definitely recommend it, the pricing is great especially with the amenities and access you get.
