What I like about this drycleaner, is that not only do they use dramatically safer, more wholesome cleaning methods than other drycleaners, but they pick up and deliver too. They pick up or deliver twice weekly in my area, which is ample for our needs. The delivery boy was very polite and pleasant, though one doesn't need to be home for this. On the telephone, their staff was friendly, though one was a bit rushed. The clothing and one bedspread were returned to us in beautifully-packaged containers. The bedspread was in the type of clear plastic zippered container that one purchases a new one in. The laundry looks lovely & is not going to be out-gassing toxic chemicals into our house. All drycleaners be conscientious and use a cleaning method like this. read more

This is in reference to their pickup/delivery service. We've been customers for a few weeks, but this last incident was just unbelievable. Basically they will do the functions of their business (show up, pick up, drop off, charge you, tell you what they're charging for, follow directions) at their whims and wills and do not see the need to let you know what they're doing. If you're ok with this, great. But don't expect to be able to rely on them. General complaints: It's hard to get them on the phone, and even if you do, it's hard to get anything resolved. They don't send statements. (They have them, it's just too much of a hassle to send them.) They're disorganized and nobody who works there knows what's going on half the time. They just take whatever amount they want out of your card, and if your card doesn't work they'll keep your clothes until it does. They don't follow fabric care instructions. Specific complaints: 1. So, apparently they went to charge our card and it was declined? Not clear on what happened on their end, but our card didn't work for some reason. They called once, did not leave a voicemail, and when we called back nobody at the office knew what the call was about. **Then our Saturday delivery did not show up. *** Repeated messages throughout the weekend - "Where is our stuff? We need it for Monday." Delivery comes on Monday (after I left for work without the clothes I needed) and it turns out ... ***our card was declined? or something *** That is what the call was about - the one where when we called back, nobody at the office knew what we were talking about, so there was no way for us to resolve it. And this was somehow our fault, because we're not mind readers and missed a single phone call? ****So you took our stuff hostage, even though we needed it?**** IN WHAT UNIVERSE IS THIS ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR? They didn't even offer a discount for missing the delivery. 3. When I got my clothes back on Monday, ****2 of my 4 sweaters were ruined**** because they obviously did not wash them or dry them on delicate as requested. Not the first time this has happened. Do not send them anything you care much about. Sheets, jeans, pillowcases, underwear, socks = fine. Sweaters, anything valuable, anything you need on a deadline = dangerous. If it's their policy to ignore fabric care instructions they could have, you know, called and let us know that when they saw them. Ha ha ha. 4. When they made the delivery on Monday, they randomly decided not to take the bag of dirty laundry we had left for them to take. OK great. Why? Don't know. How am I going to get this stuff washed now? I don't know. 5. One time we sent them comforters to wash. The next day, guess what, comforters are on special! Oh, fantastic. They gave us the credit but we still don't know if we got it or not because they don't send statements. In conclusion: Eek! Methinks not. read more

I should have read the reviews here before using this cleaner; I would have avoided the mistake. All of my husband's button down shirts had wrinkles pressed into them and one was missing a button. Their prices are very high compared to normal cleaners. Although we would be more than willing to pay extra for an environmentally-friendly process, the result should be acceptable. Also, for being so "green," they could sure stand to use less paper and plastic. The staff was nice, but I won't be going back. read more

I have been using Greener Cleaner WASH/FOLD services since , 09/12/16. I am 71 years old and on a Walker. I can't get to my Laundry room because of stairs ,the distance and my Back Pain. Going to a Laundrymat in the streets is out of the question. Mike and the other workers have been a Answered Prayer for me to get my Laundry , picked -up, washed/folded and delivered. I've been going to Greener Cleaner for 5+ years and until recently I've never had an issue. They've been able to get out almost every stain and all of my tailoring has been well done. However, this past April I went to pick up a couple of sweaters that had been cleaned but found that one of them wasn't mine. I returned it to GC and inquired about where my sweater was. The girl didn't have details in the computer system but she said she'd pass along the issue to the manager to resolve. I still hadn't heard anything when I dropped off a new batch to be cleaned a month later, so I followed up with the employee (different person from above). She told me that if no one had called, they didn't have my sweater. I pressed for more follow-up, especially because I had already paid to have it cleaned. I had asked for a refund and the woman said only the manager could do that. She assured me she'd pursue this with the previous employee and the manager. I still hadn't heard from anyone by the time I picked up the new batch, so I asked about the sweater or reimbursement a third time. The employee (a third person) had zero feedback and only offered to pass my name and issue on to the manager. I told her she's the third employer to promise that and to date no one has reached out. She shrugged it off. I've given up on anyone at GC finding my sweater or giving a reimbursement. But hopefully they'll improve their customer service and responses in situations like this. It's very disappointing and unprofessional and I will take my business elsewhere. read more

NOT THE PLACE FOR ALTERATIONS. I should have went with my first instinct that this would not be a good experience. First clue, had to go to the bathroom in the back of the cleaners with the open ceiling to change clothes. Second clue, there was no platform to stand on so the young lady tried to estimate the hem by stooping over. Third clue, no sewing machine. Young lady sat in the front on a pre-school like stool sewing (altering clothes). Even with glasses on she had the fabric very clothes to her eyes. Results paid $54 for all three pair of pants. The jeans are still way too long and the other pants are still too big. I won't be back! read more

We've been a customer here for a while now, after moving and losing our cleaner's down the street. While it's not close by and we coordinate stops with other errands (we have not used the pickup/delivery service) we are happy with the service received. The price is a bit higher than our previous cleaners, but they're environmentally friendly and it seems like everything that fits that bill does cost more. I really appreciate the Greener Cleaner and have been going there for years. Yes, they are pricey - but not so much above the costs of a regular dry cleaner. And isn't your health important? I've had a good experience about 90% of the time, with two incidents of shrinking (both were knits). They then offered to re-size and re-shape those items. What I appreciate most is the staff's competence and friendliness. The clerk there knew my name long before I knew hers, and she gets started on my ticket as I'm walking in the door. I've noticed that she does the same for most customers, unless they are there for the first time or she's waiting on another customer. She is efficient and helpful. She is unfailingly cheery and friendly. I'm glad she's there. Don't know what happened with Roseann M. - sometimes people laugh out of nervousness. Maybe she didn't know what to say. But I've found her helpful and caring. read more

I used both their drop-off and had them pick up my clothes at my apartment. Customer service is meh, and it isn't overshadowed by fantastic dry cleaning either. I swear everything I got laundered AND dry-cleaned have shrunk a whole size. The coloring on some of my suit jackets also faded. I know it's good to be green, but I don't want to sacrifice my wardrobe (especially for what they're charging) in order to do my part of the environment. However they are good with alterations. If you're getting the basics dry-cleaned, feel free to try them out. Otherwise I'd advise looking for another venue. read more

Wanted to like but did not like :-(. Took too long for the clothes to be ready...was super expensive. OK, this is going to sound mean to take it with a grain of salt...the staff (or at least two people who were working the day I picked up) were really militant and scary. They ignored me for a minute or two as they finished their conversation about yuppie scum and how they are the scourge of society. Since I was coming from work and looked like yuppie scum, it made me a bit uncomfortable. That and they were swearing up a storm...which I do too, around my friends, but not at work..soooo, I'm going to keep going to the lady under the Berwyn el stop. She's cheaper and nicer. read more

I've been using GC for 5 years. 3 stars because: pricey, don't know how to press ladies shirts, and shrink sweaters. Otherwise, it's a great alternative to dry cleaning, just be careful about what you have cleaned here. Wool and cashmere-- NO!!! My Max Mara sweater could fit a 3rd grader now... but pants, dresses and blouses come back fresh and do not have that dry cleaning chemical sheen. read more

We are normally not picky and are unlikely to complain. But this particular greener cleaner is quite bad. The shirts came back completely wrinkled. The collar tabs were removed and not replaced. They totally crushed the buttons on the cuffs of a shirt. They also tried to replace one of the buttons with a completely different one and there is white string sticking out all over - a terrible job of trying to replace what must have been another crushed button. which means they knew they destroyed the buttons but never said anything about it. I tried the Greener Cleaner for a few months and, overall, I was happy with the service. The counter staff is not warm and friendly but they are efficient and organized and, when I was going there a lot, they even remembered me by name. I stopped going there for a few main reasons though: 1) The cost (it's just way too much money if you dryclean as much as my family does and the ever-changing coupons are annoying...just adjust your prices down permanently and you will increase your sales volume) 2) The inconvenience...I have to drive there (I know they offer pick up and drop off service but I am not going to pay even more than the already high prices for that service even though I'd love it) 3) There was never a "batch" of clothing returned to me without at least one button missing or broken on at least one shirt (this bothered my husband more than me but I got tired of hearing him complain about it) Once I stopped going there, the owner called me one evening to ask why. I appreciated that and I told her the truth. I'm willing to pay a little more for their process just not as much as they currently charge. If they revise their pricing, I will deal with the inconvenience and give them another try. read more

The quality of the cleaning is great; the delivery service, however, has been a problem over the past few deliveries. On one occasion it was actually delayed a full day, but additional deliveries have been late with no communication to me until after I had to reach out to them. When I used to go here multiple times a long ago back in the day for years,I always got good customer service as well as clean clothing too.I finally went back here a few days ago.I am very sad to say that the consistently good customer service back in the day no longer existed a few days ago.I just picked up my linen pants today and one pair of those pants still looks kind of dingy to me around the belt area unfortunately.The attitude from the female employee I got today (I think she's the owner of this cleaners) was shockingly very different from the attitude or vibe she gave me a few days ago.I still paid the over $17 dollars charge for my two linen pants though.An all of a sudden good attitude again after not giving me that a few days ago is infinitely hard for me to respect period.I think I spotted another environmentally conscious cleaners on the North side of Chicago.I guess it's time to go to that one. read more

Others seem to have great experiences there but I can't say the same. First time I went, they cleaned my suit, but when I took it out of the plastic at the conference traveled to, it had weird smudges all over it. I took it back and asked that they redo it, which they did for free. I assumed the new clean was good and so brought it a few days later on an important trip only to discover that there was not only new smudges on the coat, but the suit was damaged with the in-seems ripped out. I honestly haven't even bothered contacting them because I don't want them to try to fix anything - they'll make it worse! Oh, and all this for the most expensive place in town. read more

Everyone was very friendly and attentive. Quick to help me. Insanely quick to turn around my order. I was extremely impressed with the customer service and turn around time as my order was done same day. I received an email notifying me that it was ready for pick up, which is convenient. It's far more expensive than other places to get pants hemmed, but nice to know if I need a very fast turn around this is the place to go. Definitely not the right place for delicate clothes. They severely damaged my embellished top. I have been told that it's a usual damage for them and the manager explained that they have no control on that kind of issue. It is not reassuring to hear that they cannot guarantee that our clothes won't be ruined! The manager offered to replace the missing beads, but nothing to repair the silver thread embroidery and the very specific sequins which have been split. They did not even apologize for their mistake. read more

I have extremely sensitive skin, and was able to attribute some of my irritations to my work suit. I brought my suit here, and it was returned to me pristine and soft (not starchy like dry cleaners). The only down side, is you cannot expedite for same day or next day pick ups. read more

Re: customer service: Had a very nice customer experience here the other day. I brought in my standard 4-5 shirts but I didn't realize I was actually coming in slightly after the store was officially closed. When I noticed I had actually interrupted the counting of the till, I asked when they closed. Denise at the counter was friendly and said something like, "we closed a little while ago, but no problem." So thank you for not making me make a second trip! Really helped me out. Re: the cleaning itself. Yes, it's a bit more expensive than the cleaners closest to me, but I feel it's worth it for the environmental benefits, and it seems easier on the clothes. Customer service awful, not careful with garments! Learning how to care for down coats - so I took one to Greener Cleaner, explaining inexperience resulted in paying additional $5.00 for the coat hood. When I went to collect my coat, all of the down in the collar was bunched into one corner! Obvious to anyone who looked while handling the garment to hang and bag it! I inspected coat, pointed out the problem and left, then had to call and explain to someone else because my first complaint was not relayed or acted on. The second time I went to collect the garment, I was told "there is no charge" - my reaction was: for what, doesn't extra trouble and having to call attention to the cleaners' oversight deserve a refund? read more

I took two wool winter coats here to be cleaned and I chose the Greener Cleaner because I didn't want the coats to be cleaned with a bunch of chemicals like they would be at a regular dry cleaner. The coats came out looking very good, and the price was great too - I paid about half of what I paid to have them cleaned the last time at a regular dry cleaner. read more

The delivery service person was very nice. We worked with them for several months. In fact, as a GREEN MOVEMENT SUPPORTER and PRACTITIONER, we even recommended them to our customers and friends. First some minor problems: they try to keep your credit card on file even though I've told them several times not to since they do not have half the protection/encryption my own business has. When they had our original credit card, they billed our card without sending invoices and have run into charging more than they agreed to for larger projects. I have proof of this. Then the problems. And the poor handling of them. Just two weeks ago they damaged a new JCREW collection sweater and a MaxMara quality wool/angora coat. Both items were worn twice at most but came back looking practically old. The sweater was pilled inside AND out- and the coat once brush cozy looked like polar fleece. I was told the care label was missing on the coat. I asked them why they did not call to ask? Since I knew its content, but the owner Mike B-Liar told me they never call customers. What??? They never call their customers when they have questions about a garment??? But they do when the card they've been told not to keep on file doesn't go through because our credit card company now changes numbers on a regular basis for added protection--! They offered to waive $76.00 on my bill--- to add insult to injury---- the sweater was $500 and the coat $475! Mike BS told me the items must be "UNCLEANABLE". Really???? Because he did nothing wrong. Never has caused damage to clothing, ever. His words exactly. Remember folks, the integrity of a dry cleaners is only revealed when you encounter a problem. And in this case, he is obviously SCUM because he told me to take him to court. He knows most people do not have the time to pursue that... And had the gull to add that he didn't need customers like me. I hope anyone thinking about doing business with them consider this. And those who are happy with their service which I was until they ruined my items don't be surprised if he treats you the same. Guaranteed, have him ruin something and it will be your fault. Keep the posts coming. This is the only way to get people like him and businesses out in the open and made accountable. I haven't gone here in years due to an incredibly bad experience with them in 2005. I started going here despite the high prices to do my environmental duty, and for clothes without many stains or other issues, they did an OK job. However, one time I took some sweaters to be dry cleaned, and two came back with holes in them. One of the sweaters had lots of little holes, and the management claimed I must have had mites or moths in my closet that weakened the fabric. However, the other sweater with a big hole was brand new and had spent no time in my closet. After much time in person and on the phone arguing about the issue with management, they kept one sweater for "analysis" but never followed up with me, never returned the sweater, and never reimbursed me at all. I payed to get holes in my sweaters and have one sweater never given back after "analysis." I was hoping to use the Greener Cleaner again after all these years to again be eco-conscious and avoid chemicals, but after reading recent reviews it seems nothing has changed. I don't mind paying higher prices to avoid damaging the environment, but the clothes should come back clean and in good condition. read more

Initially I was very pleased to find this dry cleaners for the health and environmental benefits. I used them several times, only to have problems with each visit. I found out, that they use water, which does not remove even the easiest stains and will shrink wool items (and I had a very nice pair of wool pants, shrunken by several inches). They also do not measure sweaters, and i had a couple of cashmere sweaters badly, unwearably stretched out. They were unsympathetic to these problems, unfortunately. For the sake of my clothing, I have had to stop using them and return to the traditional cleaners. read more
