I dropped off a blazer, 2 white dress shirts, a black dress shirt, and 3 pairs of dress pants on a Monday. I told them I needed them done by Friday because I had an event Saturday I needed them for. The girl at the register smiled, said my clothes would be done by Friday, and gave me my receipt. I came in an hour before they closed on Friday, and they told me that they could not find my clothes, but to come back Saturday around noon, and they would be found and done. I was a little annoyed, but I was understanding and came back the following day around noon. Saturday at noon, they told me my clothes would be done Monday and to come back then. I stated I needed them that day because I had an event later, and that's why I dropped them off 5 days ago. The girl at the register said: "That's not our problem." and walked away. I ended up buying a completely new outfit last minute for my event, but I came in that following Monday to pick up my clothes. The girl at the register started laughing, stating they lost my black dress shirt, but I still had to pay for it, being it was still dry cleaned. Annoyed, I decided to cut my losses, pay, and never come to Eve's Cleaner again. Once I got home and inspected my clothes; my blazer reeked of cigarettes smoke and had cigarette holes and burns in it (I'm a non-smoker and I'm never around cigarette smoke), my two white shirts were pale pink, as if someone wash them in hot water with red clothes, and all 3 pants looked exactly the same! I waited all this time, dealt with all this stress, and wasted all my money for this?! Unacceptable! read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I brought my daughter's prom dress to be altered and was told it would be ready Friday. It was not. My daughter went to pick it up on Saturday and it was still not ready. I came back Tuesday and it was still not ready. I was told it would be ready on Wednesday. When I came back to pay for the dress I was told I would have to pay $65.00!! I had a bridesmaids dress that needed alterations as well as some cheap bling attached.... With a two week deadline. The woman here (I didn't catch her name) was fantastic. She was patient while I debated the specifics of the alteration and advised me against spending too much money. She also made sure that she'd be able to complete the dress by the wedding before taking the order. And the dress came out perfect! The Hemming (which is all we decided it needed) was perfect for my ceremony and reception shoes - a difference of about 2.5 inches. The bling looks like it came with the dress and doesn't add any additional pulling or bunching. I read great reviews on here before deciding to go and now I know that this is my place for good. read more

Eve's Cleaners performs excellent, honest and friendly service every time I go there. They can also be incredibly speedy if you explain your plight. The first time I visited I was in a hurry to get a suit cleaned for a wedding in two days. I stopped by around dinner time. I told them my situation and they had it ready the next afternoon. In addition, they (as in the wonderful husband and wife duo) gave me an honest assessment of some old stubborn stains. Eve told me right away that they could not get them out; nor could anyone else who tried. I appreciate that kind of honesty upfront; it not only saved me money but earned my loyalty as well. Did Eve and John sell the business?! I have been going to Eve's for years and has been very happy with everything everyone else is telling here. But this week I dropped an order, and there was a different woman at the counter. I didn't mind at first, but when I picked up my order,one dress jacket with leather lapels was not cleaned at all. The lady told me that with this leather it would be much more expensive to clean than she charged me for and returned the jacket uncleaned. I have been coming to eaves cleaners for about five years now. There have been times where I have taken a dress and transformed it into a completely new dress because of the seamstresses work here. I have taken in dresses that are three sizes too big for me, made formal dresses into shorter cocktail dresses, and even place buttons were buttons did not belong. I had been happy at Eve's for years but since Eve and John retired we have had several bad experiences with missing buttons, burn marks, and most recently, a torn shirt. The people are lovely, but their quality control is terrible. We literally didn't have a single problem for years and to have had several since the change in ownership is very discouraging. I have mixed feelings concerning this place. The people who own it are nice enough, but are they actually cleaning my clothes? Thats what Id like to know. When I get my down comforter back I always question whether or not anything has been done to it other than being sprayed with Febreze. My clothes always seem like theyve just been ironed and put on a hanger. Maybe I expect too much. Update 07/06/07: Eve's called me to remind me that I dropped my comforter off some time ago and needed to pick it up. I went to get it and some guy there was demanding that his bright blue band suit which he was dropping off at five thirty pm be stitched and dry cleaned by 10am the next morning. Eve told him it couldn't be dry cleaned and stitched that soon. He looked appalled. She said she could stitch it for him by the morning. Ive changed my mind. I like Eve's. I have ultimate credibility for this review: I worked at a dry-cleaners for 4 years in high school and ever since am very picky when I choose a dry-cleaner. Eve and John are the best. I lived nearby Eve's for about 5 years and was always very happy with the cleaning and customer service Eve and John provide, however Eve's alterations are simply amazing and really affordable. I tailor everything, so knowing a good seamstress is essential. So - we moved away FIVE YEARS AGO and I had to stop going to Eve's sadly. Well, we just moved back and I had a dress to alter, so naturally I went back to Eve's. I came in and both John and Eve were there, recognized me, and even remembered my name! Eve's Cleaners is a lovely cornerstone to the Rogers Park neighborhood. I am very lucky to have (finally) found a dry cleaners on whom I can rely! I recently moved from the South Loop, where my dry cleaners would charge me for things they blatantly didn't clean. After several consecutive screw-ups I stopped going there, and was pressed to find a different place, but my trust was lost! At least half of my wardrobe and nearly all of the items I dry clean are one-of-a-kind, vintage items that I treasure very much--I never check my bags while flying for fear of losing them forever, so turning them over to dry cleaning is a big trust move for me. My clothes look better than new when I get them back from Eve and John. I recently had a lace blazer mauled by blue wiper fluid from my backseat and Eve expertly fixed a seemingly lost cause. I've also had dresses altered and tailored, as well as curtains. Eve's Cleaners is trustworthy and affordable, and their customer service goes hand in hand with their work. Eve and John recognize you when you come in, and John helps me out to my car with the clothes. They remember the little things, like an anecdote about how I tried to hand-wash a pair of pants that caused the dye to bleed. I neede a place to take my daughter's Maid of Honor dress that had been stained in several places somehow during alterations with a department store seamtresses. They said the stains were not made by them! I found Eves Cleaners on Yelp. This was truly a blessing! Eve did not overpromise but said she would try to remove all the stains. Concerned, I called a few times. She continued to try different things until finally-- she cracked the code and found a solution and told me it was ready. All of the stains were gone, and the dress looked like new!!! We were so elated! Although I live miles away, I will be bringing my cleaning needs to Eve's because I know they will take good care of my clothing and that they truly care! They are also so nice, gentle and sweet. I decided to try this place after reading many of the reviews here. I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed. The husband and wife that own this place are super friendly and know what they're doing. I was a little nervous to bring in a few suits for tailoring as I didn't know what to expect. I also wasn't sure exactly what I needed to have done to make them look better but the wife was very good at giving me advice and even recommended that I don't tailor one of my suits because she knew she wouldn't be able to make it look the way I wanted and was concerned about me spending money I didn't need to. I honestly don't recall how many years I used Eve's Cleaners, but it feels like forever. They have always done an excellent job with laundry and dry cleaning. Eve is exceptional at making alterations and repairs, and she will explain exactly what can and cannot be done with a garment. Most importantly, they are a community asset! For almost two decades, I caught the bus right next to their store. They would see me and wave. I would see them and wave. Everyone wishes each other a "Good morning!" I truly miss these old friends. I moved. 20 years later I moved into downtown Evanston. Yelped for a cleaner. Eve's popped up. Hardly convenient for me now. There must be five to seven dry cleaners within a few blocks. I arrived with my cleaning. Not only were they the same warm welcoming couple. They did their usual high quality job. They remembered me. I was pleased. Astounded. I decided "convenience" is relative. It would be highly inconvenient for me to go ANYWHERE else. (During business hours there's always a parking spot. I used to go to another dry cleaner in Rogers Park , but I was never satisfied with their service, because I would always find stains on my suit after they cleaned it. I recently moved out of Chicago and have accepted that I will never find another drycleaner as affordable, friendly, or as good quality as Eve and her husband. I lived in the neighborhood for a few years and was able to walk there, but even when I moved farther away to Avondale, I would drive the extra 25-30 minutes to bring my things to Eve. I have never found a drycleaner as low cost as Eve's, and she did an amazing job every time, often going the extra mile for me. I initially discovered Eve's in my quest to have a ripped dress mended. It had ripped along the seams around the thighs (it was a good birthday celebration), and after taking it to two other cleaners and being told that it was not possible to fix since the tears were along the seams, Eve told me she would do it no problem! Not only that, but she suggested adding a slit in the back of the dress that would allow for me to move with more ease the next time I wore it. All of that - $20! Eve's is a true gem. About a year after we had moved away from the area, my wife who was in the neighborhood, and got caught in a downpour, ducked in there to see if she could use their phone to call a cab. Eve not only let her use the phone, but remembered my wife, as well as an expensive suede jacket she had forgotten about and left there( Hell, I would have thrown the thing out after a year). They do great work there, but it's the little things like holding onto a forgotten jacket, which wasn't even missed that will keep us going back there (even if it is now 3 miles out of our way ). read more

I was desperate to find a tailor for a dress I needed same day for a wedding I was attending. I found this cleaners thru Yelp and I'm so happy I did. I explained my situation that I needed tailoring the same day, in fact within a few hours. The owner was very understanding and I could tell they were very busy. She said she would and I was so relieved. She spent a lot with me and made sure I was happy with the fit and what she needed to do. Not to begin with a cliche, but I really wanted to like this place. The owners are super friendly, the prices are good, and it's close to my home. However, my laundry service was really bad. I took in 6 basic men's shirts, that had only been worn once or twice. No stains. Just needed a typical wash. Of the 6 shirts I gave them, 4 were still clearly dirty when they returned them and two had these weird orange spots on them. Plus, I can still smell my deodorant on the shirts (and I use that organic, eco-friendly, barely-there deodorant). I really don't know what happened. I don't know if their washers are broke, or if they just forgot to wash them, but unfortunately I now have to take these shirts to another cleaner and pay for them to be washed, again. And just for context: I'm not super picky when it comes to cleaners. I've been getting my shirts laundered for 20+ years and have never been dissatisfied with my results. To be fair: this is my first time coming to this cleaners so maybe they typically do good work and I just caught them on a bad day, but honestly I've never been so disappointed with my laundry service. read more

I rarely write reviews, but had to give a shout out to Eve's Cleaners today. I brought in a formal dress that had lots of stains from spilled drinks. And the stains were old (almost a year since I wore the dress), because I never got around to bringing it to the cleaners When I brought it in, Eve warned me that they might not come out, but she'd give it a try. I did not have high hopes. I picked up the dress today and it's perfect! Every stain was out. In addition the two owners are some of the nicest people I have ever met.
