My husband and I are minimalists, so it was super important for us to find a space for our December wedding that would require little transformation yet be able to reflect our personalities and style. Jamie and Ellen were very helpful, from the moment we first contacted them until the moment our reception ended. Even though we planned our wedding from LA, the distance never became an issue. They promptly replied to e-mails, and consistently offered clear and detailed responses to all of our questions. Having only seen the space during day-time walk-throughs, we were completely blown away when we saw the space filled with our family and friends the night of the wedding. With the lights dimmed, and the glow of candles reflected in the gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows, the space looked incredible, and really helped set the tone for the ceremony. Greenhouse Loft was the first venue we toured after getting engaged and it was an easy decision to host our May wedding ceremony and reception there. The space is GORGEOUS with beautiful floor to ceiling windows overlooking their private, enclosed garden space, bright airy area for dinner and an equally large space for dancing and the bar. While it was too chilly to host our cocktail hour outside as planned, the garden space was a wonderful plus to allow guests to mingle and cool off after rocking it on the dance floor and the view of the greenery and flowers outside made it feel like spring indoors. (The indoor gallery was a modern and bright alternative space for our cocktail hour and guests had no idea that we had made a last minute change). While the space is beautiful and photos speak for themselves, what set Greenhouse Loft apart was the consistent high quality of customer service they provided. Every email we sent to GHL staff was responded to within 24 hours with helpful details and suggestions. Their staff was supremely friendly and was a joy to work with! The fact that coat check, tables and chairs, and several larger tables for the bar, etc, are included was the cherry on top and helped reduce cost and planning in other aspects of our wedding :) I am so thrilled that we chose to host our wedding at Greenhouse Loft and would make the same decision over and over again. We got married at Greenhouse Loft in October, and overall had a great experience. The venue is beautiful, both indoors and out. And the cocktail space inside is perfect! In the run-up, there were a few issues. Parking doesn't start until 6 PM on a weekday wedding (ours was a Friday), and it took a lot of back and forth to get the staff to work with the building to see if we could open up some spots before 6. In general, dealing with the staff kinda felt like we were an inconvenience... rather than proactively trying to find a solution for us, we had to push them. I can't believe we were the first couple to ever have any of the questions/issues we had... Billing is also annoying, as they add a credit card fee. So we dropped off checks to save a couple hundred bucks. You're already getting thousands from us... just eat the credit card fee, people. With all that said, it was definitely the perfect venue for our 140-person wedding. Lots of space, effective pickup/dropoff of alcohol and other supplies, and a great time was had by all. read more

If I could, I'd give it 4.5. When my son and now daughter-in-law walked in they said it was perfect. Here's the pros/cons: Pros: Beautiful location - inside and out Professional group who's been there/done that and were on the money with their recommendations- wonderful attitude and very helpful in so many ways Worked great for our 100+ wedding Ceremony/Party flowed very well Cons: Won't let you in a minute before the contract states - we wanted to bring in liquor early - they were there - but refused to let us in. Solution is to deal with that upfront and be sure you're giving yourself plenty of time. Their chairs are basic bridge chairs. Getting better padded ones becomes VERY expensive. We contracted for an extra buffet station - which wasn't there and Greenhouse said we took it out - not sure where that miscommunication occurred in all honesty - but that's really an issue with our caterer - probably - so I didn't use it in our Stars - but sharing so you confirm and reconfirm these things up to the day before. They have a great interior room with A/C just outside main room- wanted to use it for the party - for those who needed to get away from crowds & music - and for senior family members. They charge for it - nonsensical since it just sits there vacant. Perhaps the building charges for it -but would make sense to include it in base price or just get the building to include. But truly, it was beautiful and a different but exquisite venue - loved the attitude of all involved - and while my daughter-in-law did the majority of set-up, the parts I got to observe - I would very much recommend this venue to everyone. read more

We hosted my mother's Celebration of Life at Greenhouse Loft on Friday, March 30th. I can't say enough about how wonderful the entire Greenhouse loft staff was to work with, and especially Meghan. She was patient, understanding, and thorough in helping us with planning, changes in planning, and working through each small detail. The event was amazing. When we arrived for set up, everything was exactly as we had discussed and Meghan and other staff members were on hand to help with all the details. Tons of light come in from the large south and east windows into the simple yet elegant main space. Traffic was terrible the day of the wedding, and the whole bridal party was about 40 minutes late. I had a minor meltdown before I walked down the aisle thinking about all the stuff that didn't get done because we were late- programs out, escort cards out, cake topper on, etc. Ellen was our onsite contact that night and she assured me that everything was done, and sure enough- it was. We visited Greenhouse Loft on 3 separate occasions and were still blown away by how beautiful it was on the night of our wedding. It is such a stunning space with the natural light, hardwood floors and high ceilings. Without a doubt, hire Jamie and Steve as your photographers. We chose package C which lets each guest take home a 5x7 taken from the photo studio that night. It was such a hit with the guests. Unlike other photo booths, you could fit a good amount of people in each shot, and since it's being taken by a professional photographer, it is a really impressive, frame-able keepsake. Due to heavy traffic our ceremony started an hour late, but Jamie and our caterer, Food for Thought, kept everything under control. Love, love, love this place. read more

We could not have been happier with how our Greenhouse Loft wedding turned out. We were trying to find a venue that would be appropriate for hosting both a religious ceremony and a kickass party, but we knew that might be a tough balance to find. We had thought that we were looking for more of an exposed-brick, loft-style venue, but as soon as we saw the light, airy look of the space and the colors of the garden, we knew that GHL was the place for us. The staff was absolutely fantastic. Jamie, Natalie, and Meghan answered all of our (many) questions for a year and a half leading up to the date, and even helped us out with a last-minute date switch right before we finalized the booking. Bess, our event manager for the day of, really brought everything together. We had been on the fence about hiring a separate wedding planner or day-of coordinator, and ultimately decided not to, but Bess and the staff handled every detail perfectly. The venue setup looked even better than we had envisioned, and that was thanks for the hard work of Bess and everyone on staff. It was extremely important to us to have a warm and inviting wedding, and GHL helped us accomplish that. So many of our guests remarked on how beautiful and one-of-a-kind the venue was. What can I say about Greenhouse Loft...only good things! Our wedding was PERFECT. Corbin and I walked through the space with Steve back in January 2012. As soon as we walked through the doors, we knew that we wanted to get married there. Corbin and I fell in love with Steve and Jamie's photography and knew they had to photograph our wedding as well. Steve does the live photo booth and Jamie takes the posed and candid shots throughout the day and evening. There is free parking for guests, the space is flooded with natural light and there is a beautiful garden that was in full bloom for our July 2013 wedding. The floors were also super cool; 130 years old and taken from a Thomas Edison factory. There is a middle section of the space which is perfect for buffet-style serving (something we knew we wanted). The building is eco-friendly, and just a great place to get married in Chicago. We appreciated the list of preferred vendors and quickly learned how easy it is to work with a group of vendors that always work together anyway. Initially, GHL caught our eye because of the clean, open space with floor-to-ceiling windows and a peaceful courtyard. After meeting with the staff and touring in person, we knew this would be the right place for our wedding. In the end, the communication and coordination between us, GHL, and our other vendors worked flawlessly, so that after months of planning we were able to relax and enjoy our beautiful wedding day. We had our ceremony and cocktail hour outside in the courtyard, and even had our first dance out there in the waning afternoon light. Once inside, the layout for dinner and dancing worked well to keep everyone in the same room and close to all the action. And the table in the middle of the room makes for a great dessert display! We also hired Jamie, Eric, and Steve for general photography and the ULTIMATE photo booth, and were completely blown away by their work. In our candids, Jamie and Eric found some amazing shots - we look completely like ourselves, but somehow much cooler and more attractive. And not only did the ultimate photo booth provide a great favor for all of our guests, but now we have some incredible mementos of all our loved ones to cherish for a long time. It was an added bonus for us that the venue was green and the fact that the operators of the venue can also take you wedding pics is amazing!! Lynn from Pollen put candles in all of the windows and the Xmas lights in the ceiling added a romantic and intimate effect made our pictures amazing! The space is great for a killer dance party and the vintage furniture that Steve has (we used as lounge furniture) is really cool! I can't say enough about the people and the venue. I looked and called a few other loft style venues in the city. They all had crazy extra charges and started talking about how you had to hire a lighting company, etc... All I heard was dollar signs. Then I went to Greenhouse Loft and Jamie was so easy going, didn't nickle and dime me and the price she quote me was, in fact, the ACTUAL price. We were going for a simple, relaxed feel to our wedding, and Greenhouse was the perfect venue! I was thrilled with the way the Greenhouse Loft came out for my wedding. It's a gorgeous space in a close-to-downtown area in Chicago that's very urban, bright, clean and of course, all green. When my finance (now husband) and I selected the venue, the Loft had only held one wedding in the space after being open for 6 months. On our wedding weekend, about 11 months later, they were averaging about 2 weddings every single weekend. It's clear why. The space is a wonderful canvas to bring in any tastes and styles that the bride and groom like. Since Greenhouse Loft was so new while we were in the planning process, there were definitely some hiccups and inconsistencies that we dealt with as the team was trying to learn their space. We were the biggest sit-down wedding they've had, so there were some difficulties when working out the floor plan to fit everyone. Additionally, a few of our details weren't finalized until a few weeks before the wedding since they were changing their mind a number of times while trying to determine best practices in the space. In the end, it all worked out and came out beautifully. The owners at the Greenhouse Loft also did all of our photography, which we haven't seen in full, but the couple snapshots we have previewed are amazing. They truly understand the space, lighting and timing for weddings there so they are able to shoot with ease and professionalism.
