Today we went on the 1.5hr standard tour thinking that would be a long tour. We were wrong, next time we will choose the 2.5hr tour. Angela was our guide and a wealth of information. The tour van was clean, comfortable, and they had water available. Things to Note: *The ride is on winding and dirt roads. It was a blast for me, but if you get car sick or don't enjoy a few small bounces... It would not be for someone with issues of balance. *Early morning is best of heat could be an issue for you. We went on the 8:45am tour, it was great. We worn jackets in the morning then took the them off in the later part of the tour. I highly recommend the longer tour. We felt we would have liked more time among each field and to visit more. * Angela brought up a great point. It's good to plan to go on more than one tour as different flowers bloom at different times. Lastly we were so happy to hear about the process of seed farming from the soil to the seed cleaners. It's a wonder farmers can even stay in business due to insurance and wage costs. Could you imagine having to pay people $25+ an hour just to pull weeds? I hope this family keeps the tours going and I want to take all our friends and family. * Don't be like me, read the rules and wear close toed shoes :) One of my favorite moments was when Angela shared the prepared examples of seeds before and after cleaning.

They have a great selection of trees, and prices are reasonable but not low. We found a beautiful noble fir for $80 and they shook and bailed for an extra $2. I think it's maybe just over 7 feet? My kids were a bit disappointed for no tractor ride. They have saws for you-cut, but were also willing to help with a chain saw. Tiny little store, with trinkets, crafts, snacks, tree fertilizer. Nothing I had to have. It's run by a gang of children, and wasn't terribly efficient. I had to ask for my change several times. I love that it's a family farm, so definitely getting kids involved is great... they just need some defined roles. (Teacher here)

Grew to be a beautiful tree and was envied by my Louisville neighbors. Recently got a gift certificate from Conifer Kingdom which was emailed to me and I lost. They worked with me to resolve it, and I received a beautiful maple (Sango Kaku; wife's pick) in a three gallon pot. Very healthy. Incredibly well packaged. Brother asked me what I wanted for my birthday. Sent him a link to CK and the Dancing Peacock Full Moon maple. :-)

After a day in Salem visiting Schreiner's Iris Garden (spectacular garden filled with Iris, lupine, columbine, peony) and Adelman Peony Garden (exquisite) I passed a sign for Brook Garden Peonies and followed the trail of signs pointing the way. It's a bit off the beaten path and down a long gravel road (definitely had to wash my car afterwards!) that takes you past the garden's owners home to a large parking area next to a field of peonies. Mid May to mid June is the best time to go if you want to experience the peony, and iris, if full bloom. It's a spectacular sight with a huge variety in color combinations, petal shape and texture. Nothing like spending time in the beauty of nature to breath it all in. It has a way of grounding you and giving perspective to the greater world around you. This garden is not a structured garden for viewing like you will experience at Adelman's, where they have a formal garden in front and fields of peonies in the back. This is a field where you can wonder up and down the rows and identify peonies that you like from the hundred plus varieties, many heirloom. Many prolific bloomers. Next to the field is the covered area where the owners ring up your purchases. You can purchase gallon containers for your garden and bouquets of these gorgeous and fragrant flowers for your home. The owners are so friendly and clearly enthusiastic about their farm. They genuinely want their customers to be excited and have great results with their own peonies And offer tips on how and where to plant and how to get the most blooms. for the 2021 season, they are open May 1 through June 13 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am - 6 pm.

Second of all, they are not only amazing florists, but their customer service is wonderful. They have been super flexible and adapting to my own needs in a subscription (living out of town but really loving their unique look and gorgeous arrangements) and also I've heard do really great things for their community. I am a huge fan of this company and drive 45 minutes to get their flowers.
