Came here on Saturday just after 12 pm for sandwiches and soups. It was not that busy but the crowd came in shortly after we got seated. We decided to share the flight of soup and a sandwich (Turkey Elaine). The flight of soup consisted of 3 mini bowls of soup (your choice) and it came with a cheese scone for $10. We had chili (delicious), wicked Thai chicken (always a crowd favorite) and roasted garlic tomato (tasty). The cheese scone was really good, buttery fluffy soft. I preferred this over the raspberry whites chocolate scone. The Turkey Elaine ($8.95) was freshly made on the spot. The Kaiser bun was warm and soft and went well with the Turkey, stuffing and cranberry. We ended the meal with the must get peanut butter square ($3.25). Choo choo!! A train that delivers your food?! What an amazing little deli and cafe. My kids *loved* it. They wanted to order more delicious sandwiches and muffins just so the Canadian National would bring it to our table. Wicked Thai chicken soup was very satisfying!!! This place hosted "the soup nazi" from Seinfeld as a charity fundraiser for fighting BC fires. The line was long but the staff stayed friendly and personable. After the long 2 hour wait met to meet The Soup Nazi the soup did not disappoint! I ordered the Wicked Thai soup. It was delicious! Right up front, I'm going to say that I am a regular here, right down to having my picture on the wall along with about 100 others. Now that I've got that out of the way... Greens & Beans offers up an excellent assortment of sandwiches and a rotating list of tasty soups. As mentioned by other reviewer's, there's a love affair with Larry Thomas' Soup Nazi character - from the picture in the window to a triggered "No Soup for You!" sound-bite you'll probably get to hear at least once during a visit. The Jeopardy theme will be played at least once as well, depending on how slow people are while ordering.... you've been warned. The atmosphere is very home-style and the constant banter reminds me of a family kitchen table. The owner has cultivated and crafted this over the past 17 years and three different locations and she's got it down solid. The food quality is second to none. The sandwiches are crafted to order -- no pulling of pre-made sandwiches from a cooler here. The soup selection is constantly rotating so you're not stuck staring at the same boring thing for a week. I was at the Holland shop and had heard so many great things about this place. Apparently they are famous for their scones. I can not speak to that. But they had amazing sandwiches. The only problem there is picking which one to have. I went with elaines turkey. Basically a turkey dinner sandwich. And home made tomato soup. Both were good. Great value and a personality to boot! Great Lunch Food I recommend the Chili or Wicked Thai soup to go along with your sandwich. Their soup and sandwich special changes daily and it typically will run around $7bucks. I eat there often. The sandwiches are made to order and you can pretty much have what you want. If you ask, they will offer a long list of types of bread. My favorite sandwich is the Transit but coming up a close second is the Corned Beef. Wicked Thai soup is wonderful. There are typically 4-5 different soup choices (one of these may be a chili). Personality That's what most people say. You will not get that restaurant chain experience. What you will notice is that they know a lot of the regulars by name and it has a nice warm cafe feel to it. Experience You can pay when you order or as a regular pay after you eat. It depends on if there is a line. Sometimes there is a line of people but the team at Greens 'N Beans work to make it move quickly and keep it fun. If you get a soup option you just grab a bowl and fill it yourself. Seating Consideration: : It is a a cafe so expect small tables. I've seen a group of 8 manage to sit together but this is very rare as it is a small cafe. If it is a nice day, you will find it a little busier as more local business employees will be heading down. Most of these however will take out. Personally if I plan to ensure I get a seat, I get there five minutes before noon and have never had a problem. We clean up our stuff and leave it tidy for the next person. Gratuities They don't accept gratuities but instead they have a jar to collect for various needs of the world. If you want to say an extra thanks, think about joining them in helping the world be a better place by dropping some coins in one of the jars. read more

A signed photograph of the Soup Nazi (from Seinfeld) hangs above the kettles of soup at Greens and Beans. This cafe looks pretty humble, but they do make some excellent soups, such as the Wicked Thai Chicken. They also make some so-so soups, such as the Vegetable I had on my last visit. There's usually a selection of four or so soups on any given day, so you just choose what looks good and hope for the best. The sandwiches are getting better and better, though. The saving grace of my last visit was the Big Nasty, stuffed with thick sliced corned beef and roast beef, red and yellow peppers, and barbecue sauce. Damn! I mean that in a good way. But the presentation and extras are everything, and I wonder why Greens and Beans still feels the need to serve everything on icky white styrofoam, and with plastic spoons and dinky napkins. I can appreciate the nostalgic touch of the little packets of premium plus crackers, but c'mon. Are they just trying to save dishwashing costs? Are they out to lunch on this whole environmental fad? The service was super fast which was a plus, considering that I think the vast majority of customers work nearby and come in for lunch. Where this restaurant fell short, however, was the value. For a sandwich and a medium soup, I paid somewhere between $10 and $11 and I didn't feel very full afterwards because the sandwich was on the smaller side. Okay... I love this place. As soon as you go in, the first thing you recognize is the photo of the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld on the wall. The dude's mug glares at you from a special spot on the wall of fame, and beside it, a newspaper clipping of when he visited the cafe a while back. Why did he visit and what makes the Greens and Beans cafe so special? One word... their soup... Okay, two words.... Their soup is awesome. They run out so damn quick that usually i'm stuck with just broth from the thai chicken or a few mushrooms covered in cream from the mushroom soup. But when i come on time, and the soup is hot, i'm at a loss for words. The thai chicken is worth the trip to New Westminster. Its a classic blend of spicy thai and some kind of flavored chicken that works well together. They have beef barley sometimes that kicks azz. What makes this place even more special is the fact that it's family owned and operated. They are very good hosts and serve your food quickly, professionally and it tastes great. I was perusing the ol' Yelp when I came upon a delightful review about the germ infested cuisine at Green's & Beans. It really floored me, so now I'm motivated to give you the "real" 411. I discovered the place when I was going through cancer treatment. I'm stating this because you have to be very careful of what you eat when your immune system is compromised by chemo. During this fun period of my life, the ladies (and Matt) always took care of me. I never once had a cross thought about their food handling. The gals religiously wash their hands after they deal with cash. Beyond all this, they have way too many hospital workers who wouldn't let them get away with any sort of BS. The place is fun with eclectic decor. Make sure you ask them what kind of bread they have for a little surprise. Their clientele is a mixed bag, neighborhood folk, hospital employees, city councilors, and worker bees and execs from Translink. Here's my little (positive) rant. The owners and their workers do a ton for local charities. This past weekend Greens & Beans raised $800 for a local church so that it could get a new furnace. I'm not crazy about organized religion, but this specific house of worship does so much for the community, like holding AA meetings. Leona is always raising money for other causes, the train explosion in Lac-Mégantic, homeless charities, etc. Ask her to help and she'll do it. Okay so the gushing is over, now let's get down to dollars and sense. You can't get a fresh meal elsewhere for $6.50 (daily special). That's a full sandwich and a small cup of soup. Recently moved to the neighborhood and stopped by Greens & Beans based on a friend's recommendation. There's nothing fancy about this place ... pretty standard diner vibes + a train (more on this later). The lady who runs the place is quirky and hilarious... you'll the quirks right away when you look at the menu board and see her $1,000,000 pizza sub. My girlfriend and I tried two sandwiches, the pizza sub (she gave me a break on the price) and Collin's concoction. They are not gourmet sandwiches by any means... very home style. However, they are absolutely delicious, cheap, and hefty! Back to the train... if you are dining in and you sit on the outer perimeter, there's a toy train that delivers your sandwiches from the food counter. Just another added bonus. My daughter and I had the pleasure of having lunch in this little gem of a spot on July 27. Two words: exceptional experience. On this particular day, the electricity was out meaning the debit/credit machine was also down. I thought we would have to move on to some other place, but to my surprise...no. The owner said "go ahead and order. Come back and pay us later. We trust you." What?? Who does that?? Oh wait. A small family run business that has served the community for 12 years. My daughter and I stayed and had lunch...the chili, which is made twice a week, was delicious as were the sandwiches. The service was incredible and personable. The owners son was on hand chatting up those few people finishing up their food. I eat out a lot for business and have experienced my fair share of the good, the bad and the ugly in terms of restaurants, food and service. Greens and beans ranks up there as one that will remain memorable. Trust. Wow! Looking forward to coming back here. Oh...and I didn't have to come back to pay. I have been there several times recently and while I have been slightly underwhelmed so far, I haven't necessarily been disappointed, nor would I say that I have had a bad experience. G&B's is a very good option in the Sapperton area for sandwiches and soups. However, there is not much selection in the area, unless you want an expensive chain experience at both the nearby Brown's Social House and Take Five Cafe. Pros: - They have THE BEST, made from scratch, homestyle, hearty soups. If you love soup, this place is for you! The chili is great as well. I will visit this place again and again solely for the soups! - All of their sandwiches and wraps are made fresh to order. They taste so fresh because they really are! -The staff is very efficient and focused; even when very busy, I have not had to wait too long at all. -Eat in or take out. If you eat in, your order will arrive via the model train that runs along the windows. A very whimsical and fun feature! Cons: -I do not like the coffee. It is very watered down and not of high quality, in my opinion. -The staff do not seem all that friendly. They are polite, but very much lack any smiles or cheerfulness. I felt awkward the first few times because I was unsure if they were tired, unfriendly, bitchy, or just having a bad day. They just don't seem very happy. I just wish that they would smile more. -I wish they would use oven roasted turkey and other meats instead of the typical deli style, sliced, cured meats. It would really make the sandwiches extra flavorful. -The lady that takes your payment also prepares some food, but I have seen her go back and forth from the cash register without washing her hands in between. When they are so busy that she feels she doesn't have time to wash her hands after handing the register, then they really need to dedicate an employee to non-food handling tasks to avoid this problem. Having said this, I have seen by far, much worse food safe practices at many other restaurants, but it does not excuse this, and it really needs to be corrected. I love getting my morning email letting me know what is on special for the day so I can plan what I want cause its also busy but Leona and her team work hard to make it a smooth process. I went here a while a go for lunch and ordered a sausage roll to go along with my soup. The rolls are situated very close to the cash register. The cashier handled some change and then grabbed a sausage roll from the display case and handed it to me with her unsanitized fingers. Noticing the fail in food safe etiquette, I asked for another roll and she repeated her blunder. I had to explain to her that I prefer that she uses a sanitary method to serve me my sausage roll. She did not apologize for her actions. She simply grabbed a near by tissue paper and handed me my sausage roll. Then she placed the contaminated sausage rolls back inside the display case for other customers. That was the last time I went here. However, my friends don't mind the severe food safe violations and enjoy the germ infested food served here. read more
