Fridge area from the dining room

Dropped by for lunch at this hidden cafeteria in a business park in South Burnaby. It was cold so I upgraded my cup of soup to a bowl and was flabbergasted to find that a bowl was almost the size of a small pho! Soup, sandwich super delicious combo that did set me back $13.50 but was well worth it. They currently have self-serve lemon water in the jugs by the cutlery and as usual all the fridges to by your Avalon dairy related products (cheese, butter, ice cream, milk and also premade soups). Great place for lunch! I appreciate the friendliness and efficiency of the staff here. Also the food is fantastic.

    Beef Dip and Milkshake

If you've ever found yourself in the dairy aisle of your local grocery store, you've probably heard of Avalon Dairy. This local dairy producer has been around the Vancouver area for a very, very long time. A number of years ago, they moved their location over to North Fraser Way in Burnaby and have a small eatery at this location called Old Farmhouse Kitchen. Nestled in an industrial complex, it's easy to bypass this place if you didn't know it was here. I wound up ordering the Loaded Beef Dip ($8.99) and paired it with a Strawberry Milkshake ($5.99) - because why wouldn't you order a milkshake from a place known for their milk?!? The first issue that I had on this visit was that my strawberry milkshake wasn't a strawberry milkshake... it appeared to be a plain milkshake. I didn't say anything because I thought perhaps they didn't hear me right. In any case, I found the milkshake to be a bit meh since it wasn't very thick. Perhaps the strawberry flavoured one would have been better. They have some seating inside this store/restaurant so I ordered my meal for dine-in (as opposed to take-out). When they called my name, I was a bit surprised that they put my beef dip in a take-out container. Again, I didn't say anything because I figured it was probably an honest mistake as they looked like they did a lot of take-out orders. The thing that was inexcusable, however, was when I opened the take-out box and discovered that they didn't give me the au jus for the beef dip! Seriously? That's the thing that makes a "beef dip" a "beef dip"... the "dip"! This was something that I couldn't leave as-is so I went back to the counter and asked whether or not my beef dip was supposed to come with any "dip". They looked a bit confused at first but then realized they didn't give me the au jus so they went and ladled out some au jus for me. As for the beef dip itself, it was okay... the bun was crusty and it had caramelized onions and melted cheese and was accompanied with a side of coleslaw. I wasn't overly thrilled with either the food or service on my first visit but I'll probably try for a revisit to see if this was just a one-off. As it turned out, I came back for a revisit in the following month and ordered the Tuna Melt ($6.99) and Hot Chocolate ($2.79). The sandwich comes with your choice of a side and I picked the coleslaw again as it has right amount of crunchiness and creaminess. They actually make the hot chocolate with Avalon chocolate milk, which is a nice touch. The tuna melt is a bit basic but does include some diced up celery (?) in the tuna mix. They use a press on the tuna melt so the grill impressions are noticeable on the bread but it could use more of a crispness to the exterior IMHO. Overall, a much better experience than my first visit.

Southwest burrito was simple, tasty, quick, and expensive.

I tried the Honeycomb Peak with milk and my partner tried the Mudslide with a twist. We sat in the front and enjoyed the ice cream and different types- even trying each others! Mine was better (; he compared the Tim Tam crumbs to dehydrated cereal- It had a nice crunch! If you're looking for a casual, cute spot for an after dinner treat, you've come to the right spot!

Never had an ice cream that I didn't like. Love their soft serve and all the interesting toppings…read morethat they offer. There's a classic milk soft serve and another flavor which they can twist together with the classic milk. They seem to feature new flavors every month or so. I think I had seen from their Instagram page that they had an Ube soft serve back in April. Right now we're in early June and the flavor that we got for our twist was a cookie butter soft serve. Not sure how much longer they will have the cookie butter flavor as I had thought that it was supposed to be just for the month of May. So...I guess they don't always change the flavor right at the beginning of each month. They do change the flavors every so often though. I ordered the Green Forest which is supposed to have matcha powder, sweet red beans and condensed milk. They had run out of red beans when I went so they let met choose a different topping to replace the red beans. That actually suited me better anyways as I'm not a big fan of red beans. I chose the Green Forest for the matcha flavor in it, not the red bean! I ended up choose toasted coconut as a replacemenet for the red beans. Yum yum yum! My daughter chose the Brown Sugar Pearls option which came with brown sugar drizzle, and soft, chewy tapioca pearls. Hubby opted for the Mudslide which came with Tim Tam crumbs and chocolate syrup. I think the one thing I'd like to see at this place would be more flavors of soft serve to choose from. Having only two flavors makes things simpler for them I suppose. Happy enough with what they offer since they do have lots of interesting toppings to choose from, but...more flavors of soft serve would be cool to see. Parking: Pay parking on the street but the meter is free from 8pm. Service: Fair

I haven't been to a Marble Slab in ages and I totally forgot what kind of ice cream they serve. They are known for their mixing in their ice cream. They are quite expensive for what you get. Also their ice cream isn't made with natural ingredients. You can tell from the bright coloring in some of their ice cream. It is a nice treat but I have to say, their ice cream is very expensive for what you get. 1 regular cup ice cream is like $8 which is quite expensive. B really like the ice cream mixing here. The ice cream store is quite small and there are only a few tables and chairs available. We showed up on a weekend and we were the only ones here. Parking is available right outside of the store.

It's like going for frozen yogurt but they mix in your toppings so you create your customized ice cream flavour! Before choosing your ice cream flavor, you are able to sample a few. I wanted this matcha one they had a promo picture of but they didn't have it in stock so that was very disappointing. After trying a few different flavors I settled on the summer peach one because it was so summery! After that, I got to add in how ever many mix-ins I wanted. They had brownie bits, chocolate chips, marshmallows, assorted cereals, sprinkles, fruits and so much other fun stuff. Naturally I just added all the berries because I thought it would be weird to put in some of the other things even though they sounded really enticing. After I chose the mix-ins, they mixed it into my ice cream on a frozen marble slab, hence the name of the creamery. The flavour of the summer peach ice cream was exactly what it sounds like. It tasted like juicy peaches! The berries added another element of fruity flavour.
