I went to Humble Root when another restaurant was inexcusably closed. I am glad I did though because Humble Root Cafe & Deli is an exceptionally great place for breakfast and lunch. Despite the small venue space, the place was very popular. Even though it was busy, it did not take long for me to get a table. This restaurant has two separate food menus: one for general customer, and a vegan menu for healthier alternatives. I ordered the Brisket & Gnocchi Hash with coffee. The coffee was pretty good and saw myself having second cup. The hash was exceptionally good. The brisket meat was good, even with some fat on it while the au jus sauce was great. The gnocchi were very tasty since it was cooked to golden crispness. I did not care for the cherry tomatoes that came with this meal, yet the sautéed mushrooms were delectable. I even ordered their French Toast Latte and Hungarian treat on my way out to try. The second time I was there, I had their Vegan Breakfast Skillet with a Cappuccino with oat milk in it. The vegan skillet was solid good and had it with multigrain toast and baked beans. The toast was really great while the beans, which they make from scratch, were very flavorous. The cappuccino was fantastic, and you cannot tell that they used oat milk in it. Humble Root does not do reservations, and it was 'first come, first serve' for all customers. Like their menu, the interior design of the restaurant looked very wholesome with some of the wooden decor, walls and the waiters dressed in casual attire. Also, they like to celebrate the holidays with Halloween/Christmas decorations, and their seasonal menu choices. They were really courteous and checked on me as often as they can, even during their busiest times. Let me start by saying that I never, EVER complain, or leave a review (if something isn't great I am not the one to send back, I just enjoy what I can, happy to be here.) - however this experience was awful enough that it warrants a comment, at bare minimum. We went for a sunshiney walk, my sister, two boys and baby. 35 mins to sit and enjoy a coffee and a lunch. We are greeted, offered seats on the patio. the server offers us a table for 4, but we have a stroller. I ask if thats ok if we push the stroller in for her to sit, and add the 4th chair to the end. the server says yes no problem- i then DOUBLE check 2 times to make sure. There is space behind the chair, and servers have been walking past for the 30 mins before this transpires. My 5 year old is sitting in his chair eating his burger, being so well behaved, all of them were- quiet, chair tucked in, just hanging out.. out of nowhere, a female server (black floral flowy pants, bad bangs and long pony tail) stomps over and stands over our table clearly just having a bad morning (maybe its the bangs) and in front of 5 tables, starts getting mad at us for the table we are sitting at, and tells us next time we come, we need to sit down at a different table, because this is not the right table for us, the chair on the end is a problem for her. Meanwhile my little guy is looking up feeling embarassed and shamed, even though he is literally sitting in the spot he was sat at by a server. we did NOT seat ourselves. We said we didnt seat ourselves and she PROCEEDED to barade us until finally we just looked at her as there was nothing to say or do! we were 3/4 way done our meal, and were probably the quietest table there. the table of gentleman beside us all commented saying how inappropriate that was, and how it didnt even affect her as she wasnt in that area- so clearly just felt like throwing a tantrum and is unable to control her urges. I was gracious, asked the lady inside if she remembers seating us there, she said yes, I asked if I she remembers me double checking and she agreed, and apologized and said it was inappropriate, offered me a $10 voucher. (obviously will not be using it). we were 20 minutes away from leaving, and at the MOST she could have said do you mind scooching that chair in buddy? EVEN though it was NOT sticking out very far. but that I can respect. My little son, was so embarassed, we were embarassed, and it was the least family friendly experience ive ever had, and we dine out often. I have alot of friends who have gone to this place many times and I will do my best to let them all know of this interaction because it really does not sit well with me. it was unreasonable, irrational and immature. This woman needs to find a new job, as she clearly needs to polish up her social skills and not treat people/kids/dogs WHOEVER the way she treated a child/a family today. She is a nightmare and I would leave 35 negative reviews today if that meant anything to Humble Roots or this troll of a woman. unbelievably disgusted. as someone who served, I can say that there were 10 other ways she could have handled that situation and her teenage tantrum was not one of them. (she was probably 30 maybe 40 who knows). food was good, 80 dollars later, left with the worst taste in my mouth. I wish I had her name, I should go back ask to be seated in a chair at the end of a table, just to make her have another breakdown. Ordered a benny, egg was cooked well. I thought the hollandaise was a bit bland so I ate it with some hot sauce. Other than that it was good! Hashbrowns were really crispy. Amazing dinner. We've been for breakfast before and have really enjoyed the fresh local ingredients. They just started offering a dinner service Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. So, after a very busy day we wanted a local casual dinner and thought we'd give them a try I couldn't decide between the Flatiron Steak from (Hopcott Meats) or the Carbonara fresh Linguine with beef-bacon and organic peas, and asiago crisps. So my wife had the pasta and I had the steak. The steak was cooked perfectly. The fresh 1/4 peppers and carrots were roasted and firm. This is a nice little cafe with lots of vegan (and gluten free) options. The staff are nice, and they even offered us a free cookie for waiting so long. My mom turned down that offer, which I'm still a little sad about. There's a tip for ya - don't come here if you're in a rush. It took them almost half an hour to get my one-item order ready. However, the food is, for the most part, quite delicious and you can tell that everything is freshly made. Vegan Pesto Flatbread (4.5/5) This was really good, and would have been perfect except for the fact that there was no pesto taste whatsoever. My only other complaint is purely personal, and it is that they used parsnips, which I'm not a massive fan of. That aside, the flatbread crust was literal perfection, as it was nicely crisp and not soggy whatsoever. I liked how they included small chunks of tomatoes in the tomato sauce base, and all the vegetables were roasted well. The flatbread was super flavourful, and though I couldn't taste the vegan cheese, this was a pretty good dish for a non-vegan restaurant. You need to pay a couple dollars extra for it to be vegan though, which is sad. Falafel with Tzatziki (4.5/5) This came with three falafels - two beet ones and one regular. The regular one was nice and moist, with a crisp exterior that I loved. It was also super tasty. The beet one was pretty good in terms of flavour, but it was more dense and a little dry. For the regular falafel I could eat it on its own, but the beet one I had to dip in a copious amount of tzatziki, which was super creamy and delicious by the way. I wish they would just serve the regular falafel, because that one is so much better. BBQ Plate for Two (4/5) I only tried the side dishes, since my family got the BBQ chicken leg and BBQ brisket which are not vegan. They said the brisket was alright, but they loved the chicken leg, which was juicy and tender. For the three sides, we got cornbread, which was pretty good. The cornbread at Bandidas is still my favourite by far though. This cornbread was a little on the dry and crumbly side, but I liked how they had kernels of corn inside the cornbread. Flavour-wise it was good, but nothing mind-blowing. The yam fries were really delicious, and the yams were soft and sweet. The herbed potato wedges were also seasoned well, and were nice and crispy. The portion of the meats were slightly below average, but the portion of the sides were slightly above average. Vegan Farmer's Skillet (3.5/5) This was decent, but nothing special. There was a lack of vegetables and tofu scramble, meaning it was mostly just potatoes and vegan sausage. The seitan sausage was alright, though it was a tad salty and didn't really resemble sausage. The potatoes were pretty crispy, and the portion was pretty decent. The BBQ baked beans were not my favourite, as the BBQ sauce was really overwhelming and the flavour wasn't to my taste. The beans were nice and soft though. My dad enjoyed the two slices of toast that it came with, while I took a bite and thought it was just okay. Dream Bar (3/5) This was highly praised, so I decided to try it out. Sadly, it was pretty average. There was a strong coconut taste and the texture of the shortbread bottom was a little gritty. The chocolate tasted pretty. good but sadly the coconut flavour was way too overpowering. Peanut Butter Cookie (0/5) I'm very sad that I have to write this, but this was one of the worst cookies I've ever had. I can't even call this a cookie. - it's literally a bite of straight sugar with zero peanut butter or chocolate taste. I took one bite and immediately felt nauseous. Overall, this is a cute little cafe with an extensive menu that caters to all sorts of dietary requirements. The food is average to above average tasting, and they have a nice patio outside where you can sit and enjoy your food. I just wouldn't recommend their vegan desserts. read more

This was our first time here to this delightful, warm, upbeat & friendly restaurant. Gorgeous art work on display to enjoy. They offer local sourced foods and I think most or all organic. Very good quality and very very tasty! We will return again and again :) One special note that really took our happiness to the next level was that the founder Tyler stopped at each table to say hello and make sure we were happy. That touch is missing from most places and so happy that he takes the time to connect with us. For todays amazing dishes, they were perfectly prepared. One note, the dished had little to no salt, which is good for many people, but we felt the dishes needed some to bring out the flavour to the hash, beans and chowder. Some salt did just that. We didn't find pepper at the table, wanted to add some into the soup but it was still delicious! We ordered a Farmers skillet (yum!), it came with artisan toast and baked beans. The sandwich melt had fresh sliced ham, lettuce, cheese and tomato. An excellent sandwich...just as good or even better than homemade :) Oh and the pickles are super yummy!! and the fresh made New England clam chowder was quite good and not too creamy (which happens to be how we like it). We each ordered coffee at the table, its good and took a couple hot chocolates to go (very yum here!) and a couple of healthy dream bars (extra yum!). This place is amazing. First off they didn't overlook any details- the moment you set foot on their patio into their cafe, even their bathroom is fantastic! The food far exceeds any typical cafe fare. I had the most delicious breakfast pyrogies (stuffed with butternut squash, woah, sooo good!) My fiancé had the salmon eggsbenny (they smoke their own salmon!!!) They have a gluten free vegan dessert which was great after our breakfast. I honestly have never left a review on yelp but this little gem of a place filled my heart (and stomach!!) They'll be even better in summer- they already have a quaint little patio and are expanding with a licenced bar and more seating. Definitely worth the detour off the highway!! read more

I had the most awful customer service experience at Humble Roots. This was my first time there with a small group of friends for brunch and can assure that we were all sorely disappointed. Upon arrival, I had waited patiently to be helped, nobody serviced me after 5 mins. Finally, I put my name down and was told it would be a 30 min wait. Our group ended up waited almost 1.5 hours to finally get a seat - there was no notice that it would take this long despite check ins. Finally, when we were clearly the only group left outside awaiting, instead of calling us in, they physically called our phone, an outright rude move when they had came out to greet everyone else. We finally got a seat at the table, our server took our order, we are now late for our appointment when we had initially left a 2.5 hour window for brunch. At the end, the order ended up wrong, they mixed up our food. They cashed us out wrong, they mixed drinks and meals across our table. Lastly, the food quantity, which we read was ample in previous reviews, was miniscule. In fact, we only found a few pieces of small cut up sausage in our pierogis, where we had four pieces. The turkey sausage that was charged extra tasted like overcooked cardboard. And, we saw pictures online of heaping portions, ours was small. Quality food and great service, comfortable atmosphere with good Covid protocols in place. There's only 4 tables inside and they're well separated by plexiglass partitions and ample distance. We had the pierogis and eggs, morning crow sandwich and my son had the kids breakfast. The pierogi and eggs were a genius idea! Exactly what I wanted and so different from any other breakfast place. I went with the squash and potato but there's a standard potato and bacon on the menu too. The morning crow was a generous breakfast sandwich and very tasty turkey sausage. The kids breakfast was huge! It was more than enough food for my son and a good value. The sleeper hit are the hash browns. Well cooked and crispy, almost a meal to themselves, ask for the hot sauce! With limited indoor seating it's a good idea to plan for a small wait but that's only because the food is so good it's busy. If the weather is nice there is a large patio or take out. Not too long ago this company catered our country wedding deep in the mountains. We did a survey post wedding to recieve feedback from our guests regarding the food and services provided. The results were positive filled with energy. Every single guest loved the Vietnamese-western infused menu. Many guests admired how this company travelled so far into the mountains with limited power and abnormal kitchen conditions to create such a beautiful display of food art. Each food & desert item teased the taste buds before during and after each meal. This company also stayed in the mountains for 3 days cooking and serving our families for the duration of our event. The team was filled charisma, energy, and joy. We were surprised by 12 family members who arrived the following day after breakfast and lunch and after most guests were off on wine tasting tours. The team jumped back into customer service mode and started cooking again! They reincorperated a whole new menu and served the unexpected family that arrived. We did not ask this of them, they just took care of it! All they seemed to care about was allowing the bride and groom time to relax and enjoy their wedding. All they cared about was making each guest happy. They involved all the kids and even adults in making this wedding work in too many ways to explain. My new favorite spot. Great lunch (the Mediterranean chicken burger and yam fries are delicious) but the true boast of this place is its breakfast. My large group tried about half of it, and everything was spot on. The farmers skillet was my favorite, get the cauli-holli sauce on the side with it! For so long I have been searching for a place here in the lower mainland that makes a clubhouse sandwich that can even shine a light to the one from rockin robins back in Edmonton, and I think I have found it! I was suggested to try this place out a week or so ago and went on my lunch break as I was in the area. There is loads of parking on the street and in their little lot and a few tables inside for having a sit-down lunch if you prefer not to take it to go as I did. The staff are so lovely and willing to accommodate changes to the menu items with lots of yummy suggestions. The clubhouse is to die for, I sub the dijon aioli with either garlic or caesar dressing and get it on multigrain bread. If you are a quality sandwich fan you need to make a trip out here. This place makes homemade comfort food for any taste, you feel like family when you walk in, they offer you drinks while you wait for your takeout order and make you feel so welcome. absolutly a must munch! read more

Great brunch spots don't come along too often in maple ridge and are we glad we found this perfect place for a nice morning bite! Its located in a quite secluded area near several of the maple ridge farms which makes it a wonderful location to relax and enjoy your meal away from the city. Even though it islocated outside of the city the restaurant still carries a bit of city flare to their dishes! I had three farmer's skillet and it was very delicious with the handcut hashbrowns and the housemade baked bean was amazing. The beans had one of the best sauce i have tasted and i couldn't help but slather the bean on my hashbrown, toast, eggs and sausages! Hubby ordered the salmon benny and he absolutely loved the hollandaise sauce and the benny was cooked perfectly! Really fine place to try out when you are in the area! There are plenty of parking right in front, among the streets and beside the restaurant too! And no long line ups unlike the many downtown breakfast joints! read more

Great food and friendly service. This isnt your run of the mill cafe its far better. The food is creative and fresh so dont expect a frozen burger patty or pancakes and bacon. The smoked salmon lox eggs benny is fantastic as is the flat breads. The only reason I can't give this place five stars is its very small and cramped feeling. The parking is also small and cramped. This morning ( May 23, 2021 ) around 10:00 am, my friend and I went to this cafe after doing some morning errands. My friend had heard so much about your cafe, but never been there, and neither have I. And he suggested going to your cafe instead of Starbucks or even Blenz coffee, which was nearer to where we were instead of driving 20 mins to your cafe, but we thought let's support a local small cafe. After checking in ( Okay we can accept that due to COVID restriction ) and after I told a lady we were outside in their patio, she said that someone would be out to serve us some water and take our order. THIRTY MINUTES LATER, nobody still came to serve us AT ALL, their server walked in and out serving all of the other clients except us ... and even looked at us a few times. We left. My friend and I will DEFINITELY be sharing this experience with our family, relatives, friends, and business associates and clients and tell them all to avoid this cafe and to make sure they tell everyone they know as well !!! read more

Came here for brunch on Mother's Day. I like the location of the restaurant it's far away from the busy streets of downtown maple ridge. First impressions of the restaurant looked cozy and clean. The manager was friendly and served us the menu immediately. We ordered the perogi with eggs, hungry horseman, Benny for my mom and my dad got the burger breakfast. The service was a bit too slow it took almost half an hour for food to arrive and they weren't that busy. When our food arrived presentation was good , first bites of my perogi n eggs was not bad I was given 3 pieces of perogi, some cut up sausages and onions. I found the potatoes over cooked. I like that the eggs were free range. Hubby got a huge plate of everything and he was satisfied. However the bacon was also over cooked almost looked burnt. Overall I think the price is fair, flavour was a bit mediocre for me but it was a good experience. I'd come back again and maybe try their lunch menu next time. read more

This is the new hot spot in Maple Ridge. It is so nice to have a place in Maple Ridge that has organic, vegan, and GF options. Everything is delicious. They grow their own vegetables. Currently they only offer breakfast and lunch, along with many to-go items and drinks. I haven't tried their sundaes but they look to-die-for!! The service here is kind of lacking. My first time trying out this little restaurant. I split the humble melt and rossland turkey sandwiches both with tomato bisque soup. Both great sandwiches and the soup was really tasty as well. Great humble spot in the woods. Had a lovely chai latte and a muffin. Great for lunch after a hike. Will be back.
