My 8-yr-old son got an old Brownie box camera from his grandma, so we went into Green's because he wanted to ask about whether it was possible to repair it. Sharon was so helpful and spent so much time with him answering his questions and talking to him about cameras, film, and photography. He ended up buying another similar old camera for a reasonable price because it had some of the parts he needed. They have a lot of modern equipment but also an amazing display of old cameras and equipment. It was a cool history and science lesson for this homeschool family! read more

I recently got a canon t6i and I needed batteries for it so I went here to get some batteries, I told them what kind of camera I have and they gave me the wrong batteries that were also 30 dollars over priced compared to online for the same brand, I went back a hour and half later to do an exchange and they didn't allow me to swap them out for another item or get a refund. read more

Called this shop sometime last week on 9/13/2024 asking if they have the FujiFilm x100VI in stock. A girl picked up up the phone and I asked her for my request she immediately gave it to the storeowner "Frank". Frank said they have the black one in stock and are selling it for way more than face value. Original Price would be $1599.99. He was trying to sell it to me for about $2000, giving it a mark up of $400. IF I were to buy it at that price, I would just buy it online than in person. He then later tells me how limited they are, obviously I am aware of that and have never heard of an insane mark up like that at a camera place, the phone call ended up to be longer than I thought so I had a suspicion that this is a red flag. I don't need you to keep telling me that the camera costs an arm and a leg blah blah blah. I called another camera shop nearby and the manager told me that they've never heard of an insane mark up like that and also mentioned to stay away. Overrall my experience with this shop was not great. PS. I bought one at face value but had to drive a bit far away to get it. read more

Green's used to be my go to camera store in the early 2000's. Not sure what happened with their film scanning services but it's terrible! I've had several rolls of film developed by them and they're always full of dust spots, lines and smears on the digital scans. I've gone back another time hoping it would be different, especially since their scanning prices are very reasonable but still the same terrible scans. Another thing is their film price mark-up is insane!! I know film prices have gone up across the board but $27 for one roll of film? That's a $10 markup from other film shops! I really would love to support a local Salinas film lab. I just wish they could get some better training on their film scanning services and price their film fairly. If they can improve in these areas I would glady give them another try. Until then, I will continue to purchase my film online and ship my film out for developing and scanning. read more

Frank was weird, creepy and sexist towards my girlfriend all while trying to sell us an old zoom lens from the rental section without even asking what we were looking for. Questioned her in an awkward, aggressive manner as to why she wanted a different lens than the one he tried to sell us but had a whole different composure when explaining to me what services they offered. She was holding the camera and Frank felt it necessary to show her how "smooth" the lens could move up and down in a rather uncomfortable, insinuating manner... I guess he was trying really hard to sell us that feature. He could have easily taken the camera from her and held it himself while doing so or had me hold it. Whole experience was strange and left us feeling unsettled, never going back. read more

I hate to do this a local business, but I have no choice. I went there today to look for a camera with my wife, the employee was excellent but when he quoted me he quoted me $229.00 for a Nikon Coolpix P100 and I fell in love with the camera and the price ( I had no idea about the model or price before hand) so I came home to get the money. Looking for reviews online I found out the price is $399.00 which is more than I wanted to spend. My complaint is I expect issues like this one with big retailers like Best Buy and the only reason I choose to buy local is to avoid them because now, the whole buying experience is being ruined for me. read more

Im usually one to say support your local stores and what not, but I went in and just wasn't that impressed with the service nor selection. The guy at the register did greet me, but was just zoned into his computer. When I did ask about buying a lens for my camera, he said he had to special order it and that they did not carry a lot of nikon lenses. Then he just left it at that. No I'm sorry we don't have this but let me show you what we do have... just back to the computer. I can buy a point and shoot at Target or Best Buy(the Salinas Best buy trains their staff excellent in customer service by the way) And if I want to order a lens I can do it via Amazon and probably for a better price. Last thing, their website says they rent stuff. The guy at the store said it was just projectors and lighting. So don't go to this "camera store" hoping to rent some "camera equipment" ; P My 2 cents are treat your store like a restaurant.. if you have great product i.e you are stocked up with lenses, camera bodies etc then I wont even care what your customer service is like I'll just buy the product. If you do lack the product then the experience of buying what product you have should be at least more enjoyable than visiting a tax specialist. I think I've had better greetings and interactions from the guys at that change my oil at Oil Can Henry's. read more

Im only writing a review for this place for previous purchases that ive done and not the other services they offer. first off is the helpfulness of the staff that works there,they dont just greet you when you walk in and wander off.they dont hover around you also and make you feel weird when youre checking out the stuff in the store.i was just there recently also when i bought a tripod and i noticed that they just refreshed most of their stocks so thats a good thing if you want more people to come in to your store.i know it gave me another reason to go back there again one of these days,when i have some cash to spend again lol!! read more

Went here when I was looking for a camera. I was caught between a couple of cameras and the staff Peep and Migel were very patient and helped me. I had stopped by several times to bend their ears while I talked out loud and reviewed the two choices I had in front of me. Well the two gentlemen were very helpful and walked me through all the pros and cons between the two cameras I wanted. In the end after a lot of analysis I decided on a totally different camera which in the end did more than either of the cameras I was looking at. The big kicker is that the camera I chose cost less than either of the other two. The staff here are photographer and they new what they were talking about. They were very helpful. read more

AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was only there to print 15 copies of a photo that another retailer had completely ruined the color contrast on. I needed to send these out with my Christmas cards. PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE SAILS GUY. I came in for a $10 lens cap for my Olympus EP-L1. This place didn't have it but that didn't stop the sails guy behind the counter from trying to sell me a $75 UV filter. Most modern lenses have UV filters built in. When I turned down the overpriced filter he said my lens was "odd". It must have been because they didn't have a lens cap for it in their massive selection of 10 lens caps. I didn't get the guy's name. He was baled guy with a shaved head, well-trimmed facial hair and a bad suite. Camera stores should be staffed by photographers not gear snobs. read more

In Sept. I took my Nikon D90 to be cleaned. I was told it would take 2 weeks. I agreed to leave my camera there. When the 2 weeks were up, I didn't hear from them; therefore, I called. They told me that they needed to order a part for the camera that got damaged. So, I was ok about it. 1 month past...2 months past and I haven't heard from the shop. I called and they told me that Nikon USA ran out of parts, so they had to order from Japan. Then they told me that due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the shipment was taking long. Wally placed a used part on my camera temporally until the part arrives. I was curious about what Wally said, so I called Nikon. They told me that the parts usually ship within 1 day. When I started to use my D90, I noticed that the info button was not functioning and, looking through the viewfinder, I saw a black speck on the upper right (which it was within the camera, not in the lens). My D90 was perfect when I took it to the shop. ALL MY CAMERA NEEDED WAS A CLEANING!!! This Wally guy ruined my D90! I don't know why he works as a repair Tech. if he doesn't know what he's doing. I sent my D90 to Nikon, they fixed my camera and sent it back to me within 1 week! I regret the day I stepped into this shop and trusted them with my camera. I will NEVER go to this place again, nor will I recommend it. If you have a camera that needs to be repaired or cleaned, send it to the manufacturer instead. read more

I've been a large fan of Green's for years. In fact I have nostalgic memories of coming here with my mother as a child. Today however I had the unfortunate opportunity to meet a new employee at Green's named Miguel. Something out of a Hollywood film, Miguel fit the characteristic stereotype of a camera snob. A film enthusiast and lover myself, as well as professional may I add, enjoy visiting small business fronts in order to not only support the community, but interact with staff on a personal level. I went in for an opinion on my lens thinking the smudges were on it and and not my sensor. After being greeted briefly by Miguel I immediately told him what the issue was. Instantly he joked about my equipment ( Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera) and insulted my camera lens. Sure it's a cheap camera but my god this man let me have it. He verbatim referred to it as a toy. Listen I've shot on every camera I know what I have. To say the least Miguel impugned my intelligence in what felt like vitriolic personal attacks and strikes on my camera knowledge. After I asked for help on cleaning the sensor or how I could do it myself his sales mode kicked in and instead of a helpful DIY suggestion he told me it would be $50 for a sensor clean. Better yet he couldn't clean it until the next day, and again it wouldn't be done till Sunday. After a quick google in the car I found I could easily handle this issue for $20 and a bit of practice with sensor swabs. So much for Green's service. read more

I usually have no concerns or problems with greens camera world .. but this past weeek was just a major run around for me . On Wednesday of last week i went to the greens in monterey , nicely and proffessionally they stated they didnt not have any tmax 100 b&w film at any of there stores and i said oh ok , the woman politely told me that she would order some and said that if i lived in salinas the next day the film with be available in salinas would be friday. I went friday and Saturday to check and the employees there said they still didnt have anything and had no placement of order, so that they would leave a note to whoever orders , So they told me to come back today .. i came back today and still no film . I needed this particular film for a scholarship sumbmission !!! And i am very disappointed that i kept having to waste time money and gas to be hopping al over the place to see if they had film when specifically i went off of their word ! If you are foing to be shopping with greens i would suggest the one in momterey or carmel.. When i told the greens in salinas my situation and that they had been just sending me different places this last werek , they gave me attitude both time, which i thought was unproffessional. read more

I purchased a Camera from them through Amazon and ordered the wrong one. I emailed them asking if I would be charged the 20% restocking fee if the package had never been opened. Their response was it would depend on the condition in which they received it back. So I ship the item back knowing that it had not been used or even opened, but when it came time to refund me they only refunded me 80% Of the total which was about $400 less than what I paid. They stated that the camera had been opened and used. So that can only mean 2 things....1- they sent me a used camera at a full price or 2- they are completely lying and they just wanted to make extra money off of me since I didn't keep the camera. DO NOT buy from this company. they fraudulently charge fees to earn extra money. If they would of told me that they were going to charge the 20% restocking fee I would of just kept the camera and they could of had all my money. but instead I returned it and bought the one my husband wanted which was initially $600 cheaper. But after paying shipping of $100 (which was fine, that was on us) and almost $400 for a restocking fee I spent the same amount as it would of cost to just keep the original camera. Now looking at these low reviews, I should of never bought from them anyways. Lesson learned I guess. There are people in the world that only look out for themselves. read more

I bought my Canon 5D from Greens in Monterey. There was a focusing lens inside that had come loose. Louis showed me how to put it back in and ordered a new one for me also. I have bought several accessories from them since. I really like the sales staff, they have been quite helpful. They didn't complain when I returned a camera bag and they took the time to show me how everything worked. Tomorrow I am buying a lavelier wireless mic from them and going to the Salinas store to pick it up, because one of the sales staff is going to show me how to use it. This is an institution in Salinas. They are very knowledgeable and very friendly. The one thing I really like about Green's is that they look at every print they make. Most other shops just stick them inot a machine and walk away. Green's chacks the contrast on every photo. Their prices are the best for hi quality cameras. There are lots o wholesale stores that sell some lookalike cameras cheaper but you get what you pay for. Nice shop recommended. read more
