I came here for some Mac and Cheese after seeing them featured on Restaurant Hunter. I love that they have lunches for the school kids in the area. This shop is a sanctuary for all those who love cheese and their accoutrements. The staff is knowledgeable about the cheeses they carry and what they pair well with. Cute shop on Main Street in Bronxville. Wonderful to have a local place dedicated to cheese seems like everything is moving to Costco and Whole Foods these days. Very nice selection of high quality and difficult to find cheese. Service is a weak point and prices a bit high but overall am a fan. read more

I'm not convinced this is a true fromagerie ... it's especially hard to take this place seriously when they have 14 year olds working behind there. Honestly? No wonder they seem to recommend the same standard cheddar to everyone who comes in. Once they get some quality knowledge behind the bar, great things will start to happen... you have to give respect before you can receive respect. No one goes to an upscale cheese shop for some slightly-creamier-than-normal cheddar. Please. The store is amazing and the products they carry are phenomenal because they are high in quality and unique. Have you ever had "Barely Buzzed" or "Hudson Red" (locally made) or a desert cheese (Gjetost)?? I had not until visiting Dobbs and Bishop, where they have tons of cheese that are both the run of the mill and some that are far out fun. Great find for cheese, jam and handmade chocolate truffles among other delicacies, including caviar. You can call and have them hold bread for you because they always run out. This is a real find and worth the detour. read more

So, my husband has made mention to me of this "great little cheese shop" in Bronxvillle and has on occasion brought home some pretty tasty cheese from said cheese shop, but it wasn't until this past weekend that I myself experienced Dobbs & Bishop. This little store is just adorable, and clearly family-run/owned -- we were helped by a maybe 11ish year-old little boy, who was being supervised by what I'm guessing is his college-aged sister, and followed around by his younger sister. And let me tell you, this kid knew his cheese. Dobbs & Bishop has a fantastic selection of cheeses and aren't shy about letting you sample. There was already a plate of 4 or 5 cheese out, and they were more than happy to slice off a sample of anything else your heart (or stomach) might desire to taste. We went home with the Irish Cheddar (we were told it's a bestseller), a nice Manchego, and a cow's milk with truffle impulse purchase (we heard someone else buying it, tasted it, and couldn't resist!). Worth noting that they've also got a great selection of gourmet crackers, spreads, and other cheese accompaniments. The card I nabbed says they do gift baskets and party platters as well. read more

Dobbs and Bishop is a real Bronxville treasure! When it was new I went in and asked if they had Gjetost (Norwegian goat cheese)--they did, and I've been going there ever since. The owners really know how to run this business right. They carry a wide a variety of things in addition to cheese--perfect for party planning. Try some of the samples. They even have pastry and specialty ice cream by the quart. Kevin and his staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. They always help me pick out just the right cheese for a gift, or for myself. I love to come in to pick up something for lunch. The small paninis are fantastic. They make 2 different kinds every day. Get one of each! There's always a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches too. You want the best macaroni and cheese since Mom's homemade--they've got it. (Just ask the school kids--or me!) It's made with a nice combination of grownup cheeses. They have fresh lemonade or iced tea in the summer, Look for occasional events such as wine and cheese tastings. One time they had a demonstration of raclette, a special cheese from Switzerland. Cool little shop. Decent selection of cheese plus all kinds of other goodies. Got some goat cheese from a dairy that has been off the grid for 30 years...pretty cool. Delicious, but then again almost all goat cheese is to me. Also got some goat milk caramel. My chica brought a cheese and sausage tray from Dobbs to a party I hosted. WOW! Impressive! Everyone at the party stormed over and owwwww and ahhhhhed. The presentation was beautiful.
