Haven't been to Garden Catering since the early-2000's, and I got The Special like 3x a week for lunch when I lived and worked in Stamford. I ended up moving away but was back in the area this morning so popped by and snagged a Big Boy Special. It actually traveled well on its one hour and 20 minute journey home to Jersey. A quick reheat in the air fryer @ 375°F for 7 minutes and it was right as rain and tasted exactly as I remembered it from 20 years ago. We got big boy potato and chicken nuggets. They are really good. It's feel good food for a cold winter day. Authentic, rustic and unique, really. I really liked the texture of potato nuggets. A crispy crust and a soft but not soggy core. Being a vegetarian, I can't speak for chicken nuggets, but I was told that the west coast is missing out on these. A must try! AMAZING! What is better than bacon, egg and cheese with an iced coffee on a hot Saturday morning??? Man this place delivered! It was my first visit here and certainly not my last. When I walked in I was greeted by the wonderful aroma of fried chicken in a glass case at the front and the smell just begged me to buy a piece. I ate it all, chicken and my sandwich, ohhh yes I did. I didn't leave a crumb and I even licked my fingers like a true lady should. The wonderful smells had me so high that I forgot to take a pic of my food, or maybe because I ate it so fast. On my way home local Greenwich school kids had a Krispy Kreme fund raiser so I pulled over and got a dozed. What can I say about Garden Catering? Never enough good things. Yesterday was the funeral for our dear Dave K. He was a daily customer of Garden Catering for 25 years or so. If that doesn't speak to the quality and service of this business, I don't know what does. What better way to send Dave off, then to have Garden Catering serve us lunch after the service. High quality breads, meats and cheeses greeted us in the event room. For all tastes, they also served up scrumptious vegetarian wraps (with tasty, seasoned eggplant and squash) and fruit. When I mentioned, as an out-of-town guest, that I had never tried their nuggets or potato cones... "WHAT???"... they added some to the catering for the immediate family to take with us on our long trip back home. Fundamentally...Garden Catering has customers for life. First, Dave, and now me. They have fantastic service and quality product. Be sure to get "The Special" with seasoning! Also, in my most recent trip, I found their COVID precautionary measures to be top-notch. A hidden gem! I was visiting for the weekend and my sister in law (from Greenwich) recommended this spot. My partner enjoyed the chicken nuggets while I opted for the cauliflower nuggets. Excellent food. Everything on the menu is superb and original. I have yet to find as good potato cones anywhere else in the country. The chicken is very fresh and seasoned. The BBQ sauce is sweet. The potato cones are very crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with the perfect amount of salt and superb seasoning (I wish they told me the special seasoning they use!). I would highly recommend eating here. The atmosphere is also great. It's a small place and you can't eat there but the staff are very nice and you see lots of locals. Great marketing! Garden is a good if not great alternative to Chick-fil-A. When we relocated from the south, it was clear that we would need a replacement for that family friendly poultry fast food haven and this seems to fit that role. In fact, what you've entered is a secret alcove, a hidden treasure, a magical little gem exuding unexpected taste in food + humor both. In fact, what you've embarked upon is a miniature adventure - right here in the heart of a two-block CT town. If you happen to look left, you'll find fresh muffins steaming under a heated lamp. Look right, and witness a comical array of flyers + photos demonstrating heart + humor + deep community roots. Dead ahead, you're likely to notice Mike... Mike: with a half-grin harboring tip-of-tongue jokes, leaning casually behind the register, or poking fun at back-of-house; assembling a ticket at warp speed, correctly assuming a regular's inclination, or passing off one order while deftly ringing up another. When you tell him that you simply MUST sample one of those fresh, still-steaming muffins, he DEFINITELY asks if you would like that "buttered + toasted," to which you probably respond, "Excuse me?" (knowing somehow that your life is about to be changed forever). Probably you leave with hands full of brown paper bags heavy with hot food. Maybe you walk just 2-3 blocks down the street to savor the spoils of your little excursion amongst the ducks + geese + turtles (so many turtles!) of Binney Park. At any rate, you're sure to enjoy the experience from start to finish, despite the apparent lack of seating. At any rate, you're sure to return for more - after all, the menu is designed to be explored. When you DO return, Mike will very likely remember you, too. CONCLUSION All storytelling aside, this is my very favorite of the Garden Catering locations by virtue of the experience just conveyed (a true story detailing my own first visit).
