Greg did a fantastic job of adding a second story deck to our historical landmark Victorian home in Sacramento, and rebuilding the exterior laundry room that was rotted to heck. The before and after transformation was quite a sight to behold. His work is meticulous, he does not cut corners, he's trustworthy and likable, and works well with the City. An overall helpful person too--he spoke with the City a few times about their silly requirements (e.g., prohibition against using treated wood, among other things) and convinced them to relax their rules (quite a feat). Also, we wanted to save some money and paint the deck ourselves and he gave us helpful deck painting tips and even set up a little system of saw horses/blocks in our backyard to make our painting easier. We worked with Greg to remodel and refinish our deck. His price was the most competitive and he started very soon after meeting with us. His workmanship is top notch. He retrofit our deck to accommodate a new hot tub, built up the platform for the tub to raise it 16", designed and built an access in the deck to the hot tub for when it will need to be serviced, built on a missing handrail for the stairs, and refinished the entire deck. I had a great experience with Greg and would hire him again in a heartbeat. He helped to design and install an 850sq/ft deck in our backyard that fits great into the space. After half a dozen contractors came out, I chose Greg because his quote was competitive, but also because he was creative in the design and worked with our landscape, and importantly to me, offered to let me help with the job. We agreed to have Greg build the frame, and only to help get me started on installing the decking myself. Greg was very fast with the frame, and went above and beyond in "getting me started." He did all the cuts, showed me how to use some tools, gave tips on how to install the boards, and all that after giving me a parts list. Even though he was only responsible for the cost of the frame, Greg designed the deck to limit waste and reduce the cost of the overall project. I would recommend Greg strongly to anyone that needs a new deck installed. If you are interested in learning and helping, he is even open to that, which helped me stay under budget. read more

After consulting with 5 different contractors/companies regarding removing our deck and replacing it with a larger custom structure, my husband and I were nearly ready to give-up on our project. I had Greg come out and give me an estimate on a new deck. He was on time and seemed experienced. I asked to have stairs separate on the estimate. He said I could expect the estimate in two days. One week goes by no estimate. I email him. No reply. I call him two days later. He sends the estimate that night. No bid for stairs. Just the deck. I call and ask for the stairs cost. He says he will send that night. Two days go by no estimate on stairs. I email him when I can expect the estimate on stairs. He says he needs to design it first. He has never made mention at any point of needing to design the stairs. I told him it's very simple. I need stairs from deck to the ground. He responds by telling me He can't give me a bid with out a drawing. These things he never mentioned while he was at my house looking at it. Now it's been almost two weeks and still no complete estimate. I thought this was my guy. Until he was unable to provide an simple estimate on simple stairs. Very frustrating!!! read more
