We celebrated a birthday on Sunday, August 6, at Gregorio's in the Potomac location (Cabin John). Unfortunately, the very good food was offset by some of the worst service and care that we have experienced at any restaurant in years. Perhaps related to sitting outside rather than indoors, we had to remind waitstaff numerous times for things that typically get served quickly: extra plates to go with served salad, plates to use to eat the pizza, glasses for everyone who planned to share the bottle of wine we ordered. We didn't use the salad plates that arrived dirty. A second bottle of wine never appeared despite numerous assurances that it was on the way. Most egregious, however, was the disinterest of the manager in deploying the roll-down vinyl screen that protects patrons from rain. When we arrived at 5:30 staff assured us that tables would be moved and the screen used for the anticipated 7:00 rain storm. Instead, we were left to ourselves to pull the tables back from the pounding rain as we all got wet and the manager claimed that, once the rain started, it was too late to use the screens. The experience felt a bit like camping out in the rain, completely undermining the good food. We will not return to this restaurant. read more

I love everything about this place! We went in on a whim a year ago for lunch, and have been regulars ever since. The food is phenomenal, my favorites are the shrimp scampi and veal lasagna, the broccolini in garlic is superb. We've never been disappointed. Staff and service are top notch, very much a classic Cheers vibe, you feel welcomed and everybody knows/remembers who you are. The owners are hands on and are always present in the restaurant. This is our favorite restaurant in town! My family and I have been coming here since we moved and have always been so pleased with the kind and respectful staff. The food is absolutely lovely and tasty-- and the drinks are as well! They have continued their awesome care in the pandemic, providing safe takeout and delivery services. Gregorio's catered my son's bar mitzvah at the JCC last weekend and they were amazing! Even provided an amazing bartender! Food was wonderful and staff was just awesome! Chris held a tasting for us and made sure we were happy!had so much food!!!!! Introduced us to the staff that would be working our party. Came on a Friday for dinner. Our server made a great wine recommendation - after allowing a tasting first. Really appreciated that. Service was prompt & courteous. I usually eat at this restaurant at least 7 times a year for the past few years so I definitely was shocked and disappointed when I brought my office there for lunch recently just two weeks after dinner with family. The dinner was spot one as usual with outstanding flavor, freshness, preparation, and solid value for a substantial plate of food and overall experience. Unfortunately, my unblemished fortunes ended with the recent office lunch where flavor still reigned supreme and service, fantastic knots and breadsticks delivered raves. This experience however had glaring inconsistencies in portion control from plate to plate and inattentiveness letting butterflied chicken on multiple dishes go too long past done. In a large group where there are duplicate dishes being served the severe differences in portions from plate to plate were embarrassing. I understand why choices are made for cost control since there's a delicate balance between value for the guest and a sustainable business model. For me and many guests who continue to come back it really about how great the flavor, service, and sense of community at Gregorios has in a vibrant atmosphere. When you deliver dishes attentively prepared deftly seasoned, all those other concerns melt away like areas best meatballs you serve. It feels odd expressing these concerns but I want to continue unabashedly recommending them when asked which has been dozens of times. It's a curse and a blessing to consistently deliver incredible value and quality such that less than stellar creates concern. You are a head and shoulder above the competition but please remember how you got there. read more

Making our first visit and initially impressed. Wednesday night and crowded and people seem generally pleased. BUT -- early worrying signs are slow service, seems to be backups in kitchen causing dishes to come out at least 10 to 15 mins after they should. But this is fixable. And when our dishes came they were quite good. Would recommend attention to attentiveness of waiters. They need to re-visit the table more often and refill water. Hope that the place does survive as it is quite convenient for those in Potomac/Rockville. read more

probably wouldn't come back. I ordered baked ziti from Gregorios when they first opened and it was so good. this is my first time ordering since they opened. I got baked ziti again and the cheese on top was burnt...and I got the dinner portion but it only filled up half of the container. Terrible. Then we ordered ravioli, it was basically 80% tomato sauce and 20% ravioli. It again only filled up half of the container, looked more like the regular portion yet we were charged for the dinner portion. We also got this garlic bread knots type thing and it was drenched in oil. We could lift it up and oil would drip from the bottom...disgusting. All this cost us $60 and it definitley was not worth it. Basically, I would advise you to go to Naples at Montgomery Mall instead. read more

Got the 18 inch pizza to go. The crust was thin and chewy, not crispy. And the edges were very bread like. The cheese was ok but nothing special. The sauce was good and I could taste a hint of fresh basil. I would eat it again if in the neighborhood but nothing about it was exceptional to make it a destination point. read more

I had the Ravioli di Gregorio tonight and can confidently say it was among the best dishes I've had in the nearly ten years I've been living in Maryland. My preference is not to have big chunks of tomato in my food, and this dish does come with that, but I asked them for no chunks of tomatoes and it came exactly as I hoped. A perfect dish. And though we've had some issues with their delivery times in the past, everything went perfectly and smoothly tonight. And the food here is always so good, it's worth dealing with delivery issues every now and then. read more

We had dinner from Gregorios a few nights ago. It was quite delicious. The Veal Saltimbacco was very well prepared, with generous portion of veal. Certainly a very rich flavor. We did "pick-up" and it was well packed and travelled well. The process was streamlined for the pick-up as well. The main courses were tasty and well sized/portioned. The breadsticks were not bad, but they were not remarkable either. I would definitely get meals from Gregorios again. read more

I have gotten take out from Greggorios a few times and have not been disappointed yet. The food is good and the service is equally as good. What really made me realize how this place really appreciates the customer is when I ordered lasagna(it's like crack---ordered 3 times in 1 week) and the cannoli but when I opened my bag there was no cannoli or salad. When I called them and let them know they insisted on bringing it to my house even though I had picked up the order. After I had made the call I realized it had fallen out of the bag in my car so I called them back and talked to Greg who insisted that he is still going to bring it over. had dinner @ the potomac location. Here's my review: PRO: 1. FOOD Quality: Home made Italian fare. Fresh ingredients, well prepared, large portions. Fair prices. Chicken parm and masala perfectly cooked. not overdone or dry. Lasagna is excellent. Great flavor and seasoning. sauce had a homemade flavor to it. many restaurant sauces taste like they came straight from the can to the microwave to your plate. Boring and tasteless. This was not the case here. 2. Service: Fast friendly. Didn't try to push any dishes or force additional add-ons. 3. Atmosphere: Clean modern layout. CON: 1. booth table: these were the smallest tables i've ever sat at. I'm not a big guy but found it vey tight to sit and eat in the booth. Would prefer a table in the center next time with regular chairs. SUMMARY: Very good homestyle italian food with friendly service on a child's size table. Will come again, but ask for a center table instead of the booths. read more

We went to Gregorio's last night; my niece ordered the salmon. It came five minutes after the rest of our meals had been served; which was not a problem. However, after a while she realized it was completely raw on the inside; not undercooked, but raw. We sent the fish back and they recooked it, and brought it back to the table after everyone was done eating. There was a piece of overcooked, dried out fish sitting on a plate in front of my niece. She didn't eat it if course - to add insult to injury they charged us for the salmon. I guarantee we will never return to Gregorio's! read more

Would give this restaurant more stars if I could! Firstly, we were greeted by a friendly hostess immediately who sat us at the booth we wanted. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. After we placed our order, she came to tell us that our pizza was taking a little longer than planned and asked if we wanted all our food together or separately, which was very considerate. The food was DELICIOUS. The bread was the most buttery and garlic-y I have ever tasted. We also really enjoyed the pizza and the carbonara. While we were there, we witnessed two other stellar customer service experiences. A woman next to us was from out of town and needed help getting to her next destination: the restaurant workers went above and beyond to print her maps and directions and continued asking if there was any other help she needed. Also, there was a man standing near us waiting for a pizza pick-up: the owner noticed he had been waiting a long time and offered him a free glass of wine to make up for it. The servers and owners here really care about their customers and go above and beyond for them. The owner also stopped by our table to ask us how our food was. Overall, a great restaurant. Food was well-worth it. Delightful ambience: not too loud but not too quiet. There was a very relaxed feeling that we could easily have a conversation without needing to shout. The paintings on the wall are beautiful and add to the Italian culture. I could not recommend this restaurant more and will definitely be returning! read more

Just went for the first time. 5:30 on a Saturday. I spent most of my life in northern NJ, where serving bad Italian food can get you killed. - they have a full bar. Not a byob trattoria. - lots of families and loud children. I'm sure a later time is quieter - I had the pasta fagioli and braised short ribs with risotto. DELICIOUS! - my wife had the pasta primavera. Skimpy on the veggies, but great sauce. - the service was OK, not great. Our waiter was a 16 year old boy, trying his hardest. We'll go again. read more

Yesterday I had a wonderful lunch here. The ambiance is very nice and the service was excellent. I had the four cheese pizza which was pretty good. It was tasty with a crisp crust and they have their own ovens for the pizza. The breadsticks were also delicious and my friend had a salad that she said was very good. Gregorio's Trattoria is the best. Homemade bread and red sauce are exquisite and their name sake ravioli is a must.

I wish I could write 2 separate reviews, because half our dinner was 5 star and the other half was 1 or 2 at best. We ordered takeout, which seems to be more expensive than dine in, which was already pretty pricey. The arugula pear salad was delicious and full of goodies, but we also got a large Ceaser salad which was a skimpy portion of Romaine and 5 croutons for $12. The eggplant parm (one of my favorite all time dishes) was EXCELLENT and my son deemed the spaghetti it came with as the best ever. On the other hand, we got a Margherita pizza that was so bad neither kid would eat it and they eat school pizza. Bland crust, barely any sauce and rubbery cheese - and cost $23!!! I would go again for the platters, but get your pizza somewhere else. read more

I'm about a month overdue in writing this review but I wanted to share our great experience. Excellent pizza and we really appreciated the curbside pickup option. We have been frequenting Mamma Lucia for years but this is definitely every bit as delicious. And the service is faster. I just wish they had a pizza special (BOGO) like some of their competitors.
