We had a breakdown on I-80 and chose to get towed to Greg's Garage for repairs. They got our van right in and had it ready in a day. Unfortunately, the van died again due to a faulty alternator. Greg's Garage stood by their work and warranty, covered the towing, got us right back in, and then went above and beyond to ensure that the second alternator would keep us on the road as we resumed our vacation. While the back-to-back breakdowns were frustrating, Pat worked to quickly help solve the problems in a timely and professional manner. Ok haters, I'm putting my face and my name to this without hesitation. A) NEVER EVER have had a problem with Gregs, their prices, their staff or their workmanship or being taken advantage of as a female. I've taken in SEVERAL of my cars and HIGHLY recommend them. B) You get what you pay for, so if you're looking for ABC lube job perhaps you should try 4th street vs. 6th street. C) I'm not sure if you work for free but I sure in the hell don't......sooooo I'm not sure where you think diagnostics should be "free" because he still has to pay his employees labor, workers comp, carry liability, yada, yada, yada. So keepin it real here, get this....there is only ONE REASON why people go into business and if you don't have this answer, you need to go back to college. People go into business to "MAKE MONEY." Period, end of story!! I started taking my vehicles to Greggs 8-10 years ago, I had been using a different repair shop in Sparks for several years. I had taken a car in for oil change, fluids, and filters. When I returned to pick my car up I was told they discovered a major transmission leak in some hose's & it was critical. I did not just fall off the turnip truck-I absolutely knew the car had no leaks of a critical nature! I paid for my maintenance and took car to Greg's telling them I wanted a basic overlook of vehicle. The charge was $72.00 (darn reasonable) that afternoon I picked up car and was told "NO MAJOR ISSUES" complete invoice of % brake left, rotation soon, all fluids in range and appeared clean, transmission fluid clean with no particles. I never mentioned the other shop or the reason I wanted my car checked. I have been taking all of my vehicles to Greg's since then 8-10 years. I work outdoors with mostly men that are into cars and trucks so when I take a car to a shop I'm pretty well informed of the possible issues. I have never felt cheated or over charged at Greg's. MOST OF ALL- after Greg's pinpoints the issue they are all about fixing it right the first time!!! NO monkey business, I've never once had to return due to an issue they repaired or a substandard part. If a part is bad they fix the part and the gaskets, bearings, belts, or lines that are required for the part to function properly. Personally I do not have time to return a car 3 times to a shop that try's to keep the bill low to get my business and replaces an alternator yet leaves the old ragged belts on- or replaces the only brake cylinder that is leaking knowing full well that the cylinder on the other side will start to leak soon and until then you will have uneven braking. I moved to California 2 years ago and I still drive to Reno and Greg's for work on my vehicles. The staff is courteous, the estimate is always correct or less than quote, and if I let them know my timeline in advance the work is finished in a timely manner. Oh yeah they actually return calls the very same day they agree to & the few times when I have been in a pinch they made it a priority so I would not miss any work. read more

This place is a disaster plain and simple. I bought a used truck and took it in for an inspection and a general servicing. I wanted the all the fluids flushed and everything checked out because the truck had been sitting for awhile prior to buying it. I was told it would be ready the following day by 2pm. Later the same day they called and said the distributor needed changing because the gear was worn, I agreed to that and waited for them to call me the following day saying it was ready. That day came and went, so the following day I called them and inquired about the truck and was told "yeah it was ready yesterday". So when I went down to pick it up, I was greeted by their receptionist who handed me an invoice, said sign here and you can pay over there. I looked at the invoice and it didn't show half of what I wanted done to the truck as actually being done. When I asked about the missing services, she instantly cocked an attitude with me and just kept pushing the invoice and pen at me to sign off on it. Finally someone in the back heard the debate going on and came out to inquire. He went to the computer and couldn't even find a service order for my truck and of course the guy who took the truck in "wasn't in today". They said they would do the items I asked for but it would take another day to complete. When I came back the next day, the bill had doubled and I had to argue that the amount on the original invoice was the agreed upon amount for ALL the services. After another thirty minutes of debating and going back and forth, they finally figured everything out and corrected the price. You'd think it would end there but it did not . I got about a mile down the road and kept hearing rattling from under the hood. I pulled over to check and the air intake, had not been put back on, nor was there a filter in the filter box. It was all just piled on top of the fender well. I drove back and showed them this and was met with more attitude. They said they'd need the truck again for a day. I told them to just give me a filter and I'll do it myself, it takes all of three minutes to change the filter and hook up the air intake box. I was told doing the work myself would void all warranty service on the truck. Ok, fine whatever I just wanted away from them. Fast forward a month and I could smell oil while driving. I discovered a oil leak where the distributor shaft does into the intake manifold. Upon closer inspection, they didn't use a gasket and the fastener to hold it on was installed wrong. I took it back to them and was told that it was obvious -I- had modified it. At that point I just left, filed a complaint with the city and BBB about this and went through and essentially re-repaired everything they did to make sure that the repairs were actually done and done right. This garage is quick to get you in, I feel they are honest and professional. They kept us up to date on what was happening and what needed to be done. The price was awesome. We have been there twice with great results. We were told by two different places that the alternator needed replaced and they found that it was just a short in the light of the glove box. Not honest as the TV add says. Charged me $2,000 on some motor-home work 5 years ago, I'm still mad. Vehicle broke down in my driveway the day I drove it home. The break down was in systems they claimed to have repaired. Offered me a "store" credit... I let it expire I would never take a vehicle there again. read more

Having been in the automotive repair business specializing in electrical/electronics for nearly 30yre,, I'm reluctant to let anybody else turn wrenches on my own vehicles. However, I also know when I've reached my limit and when it's time to get someone else's opinion. This was the case when I was having troubles getting my 2003 Camry to pass smog due to uncleared driveability monitors that would not clear following a battery replacement. I decided to also have the 60K mile service preformed, as it was 7K miles overdue. The service writer Brian, was very professional and answered my questions. He informed me that in addition to the items suggested for the 60K service we should also change the plugs and some other things due to the age of the vehicle. The plugs weren't due until 100K byt that they due have a "shelf life", something I was aware regarding fluids and belts, but hadn't considered the plugs etc.. In the end, they did the work, and I'm glad we did. The car ran pretty good before the maintenance and it runs even better now. They also informed me of some issues coming up with the brakes. As soon as I am ready, I will be returning to Greg's Garage. Greg Doyle and I got our start in this business at the same shop back in the '80s. It's nice to see he's made it so far, for so long. No small feat in this day and age. While there's plenty of competition for your automotive repair dollar, there's really no competition if you want it done in fair, competent and timely manner. I bought my car in with electrical probs. Its been through numerous alternators and a fried wire that attaches to the alternator which they repaired correctly. I was recommended to them from Firestone (who screwed up my car) They were pleasant and seemed honest. But a few days later all the lights came on again in my car and it started to die. I bought it back again and they wanted to charge me again to diagnose the same prob. I said no. They had my car for three days no phone call I called them and basically they can't figure it out so I will have to take it to Ford or get rid of my car. There is no charge for them not figuring it out. The creepy thing at the time was they were trying to say that I had something wrong with my transmission and were trying to convince me I had to take it to a transmission place. So glad I ignored that advice and took it to Ford!! I felt like I was being treated like the village idiot being passed from one bad repair place to another. By the way firestone had put the wrong alternator in my car 3 times thus frying the electrical wires attached to it. When I took it to ford they put the right alternator in it and I have not had any prob's ever since. I was driving my truck up to Reno from the Bay Area for college. On the way over the mountain my truck started running really hot and I had to get towed to a garage in Reno because I had nowhere else to go or a place to work on it myself. When I got there I grudgingly signed for a $50 diagnostics test on my cooling system for them to figure out what was wrong. I already knew there was no flow of coolant , as ut was full when is got hot, and I told them I had replaced my water pump about two weeks prior so I knew it wasn't that. They took the $50 diagnostic test and did nothing with it, only doin the work that I had saint might have been, which was the thermostat was broken. They called me a few days later saying they had found a large leak tha had never be there before and it would cost $500-$700 to fix it. I told them not to fix it and just work on making sure they fixed the cooling system. They replaced the thermostat which is a very quick job I could have done in less than 45 minutes, and would have if I had a place to work on it. When I went to pick it up they have me the total, saying that the entire job cost $230. I was shocked, so I asked to see an itemized receipt. They charged me $95 an hour to work on it for almost an hour and a half to do a job that could be done by untrained people in half the time. They refused to admit that it was high and kept giving me excuses for why it was so high an eventually I got my car and left. The garage is about 4 blocks down from the circus circus parking garage when I park, and by the time I got there it was already overheating. I checked the coolant, made sure there were no air pockets in it and it still was overheating. I parked it and walked back to the garage and told them about it. I asked them if they actually ran a diagnostics test or if the checked my old thermostat to see if that was actually the problem and they told me to bring it back in because it was probably a blown head gasket. They hadn't seen my car since it overheated again so there was absolutely no way they could have known what it was. They completely ripped me off, knowing that I would have to pay them whatever they wanted for the simplest of jobs. DO NOT GO HERE. It was so bad I'm making a yelp account just to review this place. I would think AAA recommended places would e more scrupulous, but I suppose I was wrong. Time to look for another garage I guess. read more

approximately 6 months ago our car was overheating it was suggested to us that it was our serpentine belt affecting the water pump so I recalled the ads I had seen for Gregs Garage we took our car in and had the belt replaced yea no more squeaking and when they handed us the receipt and print out it said " Serpentine belt replaced at customer request" and additionally that we needed to have the ABS light checked (which we knew because the light was on) so my husband drove the car home less than 5 miles and it overheated again so we went to jiffy lube to get an oil change because it needed it 3 miles and the car was overheating again the guy at the jiffy lube said it could be air in the radiator however when he looked at it he notice it had a HUGE crack in it and we were darn lucky we made it to them and they told us we could not even drive it home. All this LESS THAN AN HOUR after we got it back from Gregs Garage thankfully the manager at Jiffy lube got us help and we got our ONLY car fixed. Fast forward to now on Friday May 2 our serpentine belt snapped as my husband was heading home from work we called Gregs Garage and had it towed there to have it fixed because the serpentine belt should have lasted for years not 6 months so they were going to fix it half way through the day they called us and told us it was the pulley (which was not broken) and it would be $200 then we were told that there were missing bolts on the power steering pump and we would have to wait until Monday to have it checked so we call on Monday and they informed us they wanted to replace bolts for another $400+ dollars we told them not at this time because we wanted a second opinion we did not receive our car back until Tuesday May 6th less than a day after getting our car back WITH MY NEWBORN 2year old and 4 year old in the car the purge solenoid for the evap system that was previously Bolted to the car shredded the serpentine belt and stranded us in the park no way home and when we called they said we were out of luck read more
