Beyond great. Central A/C went out on Friday. Spent hours on the phone and filling-out online forms. Finally was "blessed" with a visit from Strand Brothers on Saturday night. They generously offered a Lennox system - including a $3,500 fee for the thermostat alone - for just over $28,000. Or, I could pay a fixed rate for 120 months that would amount to a total payout of $56,000 at the end of the term, at which time I would own a now-failing HVAC system. Booked visits with Stan's - they never called back - Fox (they could come Wednesday), and so on. Called Greg on Sunday at 4 p.m. He was picking up a rescue dog. By 9 p.m. we had bids in hand. Let's just say that I got a Carrier system that's top.of.the.line. for more than $10,000 less than what Strand quoted. Isaac came out Monday for on-site; (other) Isaac and Juan and team came out today (Tuesday) at 9 a.m.; Joseph came by an hour ago (and will be back tomorrow); and Greg stopped in during midday. My property is cleaner than it was before they visited. There is some dust. Those are my complaints. I cannot emphasize the level of service, commitment, and responsiveness of Greg and his team. Did some research on Yelp before selecting this outfit. I had them service two HVACs on two properties. In general, the technician was thorough evaluating the systems and recommending maintenance and fixes. In terms of pricing, they are in the range of other companies that I have used over the years. We had an issue with our HVAC not cooling even when it's continuously running the whole day. Greg was the first to response even if project details were sent late at night. He immediately scheduled his guy to come the next morning and applied a temp fix for the issue, turned out it was a problem with the Honeywell thermostat panel that needed to be replaced. My husband said that he was very knowledgable and explained the problem to him. Also explained that we do not need to replace it right away it's just that if we don't, the upstairs thermostat will control temp for both upstairs and downstairs. He will send quote for the replacement. Great experience overall with these guys and will use them for any HVAC maintenance and services in the future. read more

We've been having issues with our AC for the past couple of years. The first time we noticed the problem, we contacted Greg and he was quick to respond and helped us install a new evaporator coil. However, 6 months later, the problems returned and we turned to Greg again. This time, Greg was very hard to get a hold of as he wouldn't respond to texts for weeks. When he finally responded and installed a new coil under Lennox warranty, he sent who seemed to be a young apprentice to refill our refrigerant and charged us $1k for it without an itemized receipt. Not even 2 months later, we started having issues with the AC again. After the repeated issues, we had another company measure the refrigerant to find that pressure was 60% down. After continued investigation, no leaks could be found in the coils or lines. The suggested reason for the leak was that the system was not filled properly. The evaporator coil installations seem to be done well but our continuing issues in combination with the later lack of communication and no itemization of receipts left us ultimately dissatisfied. We feel that Greg is a nice guy but there might be room to improve on some procedures. read more

In the 7 + years we've been in our home we haven't had a major issue with A/C & Furnace until a couple of weeks ago when we had our first legitimate cold snap, and our furnace would not come on. Wasn't sure who to call as we haven't had an A/C-Heating company we trust, until now. I called Greg, and he had Isaac out the next day. Communication was good, Isaac was there in the window we were given, and when he arrived he immediately went to work on diagnosing the problem. He took the time to thoroughly diagnose the issue, but there was no time wasted. Once he discovered what was wrong he communicated the issue clearly, and laid out what he was able to set up as a work-around. The work-around gives us some breathing room as the larger fix is not cheap. He got our furnace up and running for just a little more than their diagnostic fee, and the best part is we know how much to save to complete the larger fix. So glad we have a Heating & Air company we can trust for all future work & maintenance we will need. read more

Came home from a 2 week trip to find the inside of my house was 105°. Yikes. I looked for an HVAC company on Google first. But these companies with allegedly, 12k 5-star reviews seemed a little suss. When I looked on Yelp, those companies almost ALWAYS had about a 3.5-star rating. Long story short, Greg was able to get a tech out to me that day. Tech was knowledgeable, gave me a lot of information about how the AC works (I've only owned a home for a year so still a newbie at this kind of thing). Broken capacitor was fixed in about 45 minutes. Fairly inexpensive, only had to replace 1 part (which was nice). Got back to 73° in the house in about 22 hours. Crisis Averted! We recently called Greg's to replace our 18 yr old AC. Greg went above and beyond on educating us on our current system and limitations and the new system. His quotes were fair and accurate and he was quickly able to get a crew out to make all the changes. I really appreciated that he didn't come off as a salesman or pushy. He was extremely helpful when we had an issue post installation where our rooms were being unevenly cooled. He was quickly able to pinpoint the culprit to a dirty plenum and poorly situated air ducts (from when the builder had installed them long ago). Greg's Heating and Air is based in Buda, Tx, not far from where I live in north Hays county off of FM1826. I called Greg the past week, and I was impressed just talking with him on the phone for starters. I then had all 3 of my systems serviced (The annual tune-up plan) and I was very impressed with the technician that came out today, Isaac. He was knowledgeable, fair, and easy to work with. Two of my systems are from 1993 and 1985, so I was figuring they were both low on freon. The third system was installed in 2013. To my surprise, all 3 units were good for freon and only the 1985 system needed the contacts replaced (there were OEM, 40 years old, so they did the job by golly). Greg's team installed new extended supply trunk, return air plenum, and 4-inch air filter and reworked the entire duct system to center and balance it and even out air flow and temperatures to all rooms. Run don't walk to absolutely use this company! I work for a medical sleep clinic and we have had issues with our heater working during the occasional Austin deep freezes. I did a broad sweep request here to find someone to please come to our office during a deep freeze and the air wasn't blowing warm. The owner Greg immediately contacted me and asked me very specific questions. He said he didn't service commercial facilities but... he treated me like family and we had back-and-forth conversations here. He schooled me in what to ask for etc... I'd already scheduled one "national chain" company to make a service call. As well, we'd had a company we found here do some work but... comes to find out they're not commercial specialists and they never got us a bid to repair our units. The first company showed up and left because they couldn't find the units! Meanwhile my new friend Greg gave me a referral to an honest hometown company who made it there the next day after the inept guys who couldn't find the units. But Greg's referral company, called me multiple times, asked the right questions, sent a high level guy there who knew our building searched high-and-low found the units on the roof, went on the roof and found our problems and gave us a temporary fix for under $500. I can't say enough for anyone in business who has "empathy." HVAC companies aren't unlike healthcare providers, we need them for our health, we can freeze, pipes can burst or we can get heat exhaustion in the other extreme weather conditions in Austin. Greg's operation is a very lean, efficient machine, there's no bloat. He got a tech out here the same day I called in, the tech analyzed the problem, which was a big issue that required the exact part that needed to be replaced being available, and time was made to knock the issue out the very next day. They gave me a quote of $2400 so I got two second opinions from other AC guys I know and both were like "Yeah man that's a fair price for the work being done." So I approved the work and the team knocked it out. Their tech, Joseph, is knowledgeable AF and super easy to work with, gave me a ton of tips on maintenance that'll help me with keeping the HVAC unit at my other house running well too. Greg and his team deserve five stars at a minimum. They operate with integrity, empathy, and communicate well with their clients. I was left in a lurch by Strand Brothers complete lack of service: they did not show up for an appointment. I had an email confirmation. When I called the same person that I had made the appointment with she denied ever having made it. I had the time stamp on my phone and an email and was told no, that it was not the case. I even knew the model and price of the replacement part - which I never would have know had they not told me. I asked to speak to a manager and was told one would call me. That was 96 hours ago. I reached out to Greg via Yelp. He responded quickly and managed to fit me in the next day. He was open and honest about what he could do. It would take a few days to get the part but it could be done. He also offered some temporary solutions. All along he texted or called with status updates. The tech from Greg's has just installed the part. He arrived on time and went directly to work. Everything works perfectly now. I have the part, plus freon and and the service call for the cost of the part alone from Strand Brothers. There is really no comparison. If you have any heating or AC needs, this is the place to go.
