Overall Alamo was responsive, good service, and fixed the issue. They showed up within 15 minutes of when they said, which is hard to find these days. I basically knew what the issue was, (a bad capacitor), but they did their due diligence and checked both the indoor and outdoor unit anyway to make sure nothing else was going on. They were able to swap out the capacitor and were in and out of the visit in less than an hour. The only negative I'd cite is the price. Every business needs to make money which is great, but I found their pricing to be higher than most, so keep that in mind as you are looking at options. The capacitor I had changed was ~80$ part and they charged $500 to swap it, so essentially 400/hour for labor. I also had them quote me replacement for a $200 fan and they quoted $950, so you get the idea. If you are looking for someone competent who can do the job right I think Alamo is solid. If you are more cost conscious and don't mind shopping around you can get things done a lot more reasonably IMO. read more

If money is no object for your HVAC system install or repair project, Alamo Air is the company for you. If you are a working person, or a person fighting a rare form of blood cancer like me, with its related expenses, they may not be your best option. I am giving them 2 stars, because their techs are professional, technically skilled, and product knowledgeable. It kinda' stops there, if you don't have major bucks for their work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do find them, unsurprisingly, rapidly responsive after they submit a quote.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Then, there are the coupons, with the fine-print disclaimers. In my case, a $150 "special" promotional discount vanished when we removed a short run of basic flex duct from the scope of work. No explanation was given about the discount's removal. They loaded an incorrect unit on the truck that the technician/installer recognized after the demo of the existing unit and instead of ignoring and installing anyway (sometimes challenging for a homeowner to know the difference) he called the company and went back to pick up the right one and was still able to complete the installation within a normal timeframe. Erick was very methodical & quick, yet meticulous (& didn't rush or cut corners after losing an hour to pick up correct unit) and payed attention to the details and cleaned everything up afterwards. After Alamo installed a new AC system for me, I noticed that the outside unit was louder than I had expected. Ivan is solid. He unclogged my condensant AC line the right way and installed a float switch on my upstairs unit. The PVC pipe has several twists and turns before it goes outside, so I did't just want compressed air blown in there as it could have caused a leak in one of the connections, which would be a disaster if if was inside a wall. So he used his wet vac and blew some air on the other end, but the pressure wasn't like that of compressed air so the pipes weren't stressed. They arrived on time, and diagnosed the problem in line with what I already suspected that the evaporator coil needed replacing due to a leak. I'm giving the Alamo team an exceeds expectations endorsement. We solicited multiple vendor quotes after having a brutal experience with our warranty company over a multi-month period. Eric listened carefully to our challenges with the old unit, even when the unit was working. Eric is the only technician to calculate the air flow our system should receive, and pointing out our system wasn't pulling in enough air. Eric suggested adding an air intake in one of the bedrooms, and modifying duct work in another. I want to thank Eric for his recommendations, as they worked very well after the first night of testing! Eli, the installation lead walked us through what was going to be done so we were all aligned. All duct work was replaced. The team carefully hung the duct work avoiding the mistake of crimping ducts over attic rafters that restrict flow. Eli walked us through the post-installation. I carefully inspected after the job was done. It's rare for me to find a vendor that meets my high expectations, but Eli and team did so with flying colors. The clean up was amazing as well, which most vendors don't do well. All old material was loaded into their trucks. I highly endorse the Alamo team. read more

We had Alamo come out to give a second estimate on a new system at a rental house after getting an estimate from Service Wizard, which we've been using lately for A/C service (and are happy with). The estimates came out approximately the same, but we decided to go with Alamo since they bid Carrier and Service Wizard bid Lennox (we like Lennox and have one in our house but they're harder to find service for). They also seemed to look more at the total system rather than just bidding an appropriate unit (according to Hope my architect wife, not sure what that really means) and had a quicker timeline. Installation went smoothly and on schedule and the system seems to be working well. We might try them for service too on the future since they seem to be able to get out a little faster. read more

I should have written this review a few years ago but didn't get to it. Alamo did a great job for us installing a new Carrier continuously variable system. We are finally comfortable with one unit in a 2,800 sq ft two story house. The service after the sale has been phenomenal, we had trouble with the thermostat and the Alamo team replaced it even though the issue was intermittent and hard to demonstrate. During the sale, Jason was quick to follow-up with a detailed quote where I knew exactly what I was getting. SUMMARY: Arrived within 30 minutes and got the central AC up and running in another 15 minutes, for $96 total. DETAILS: Air handler (inside unit) went out after a power surge during a storm. Called Alamo, Ivan arrived within 30 minutes, quickly identified the problem as a bad control board. Since he said a new control board would be about $700 if he could even get one (system is 30 years old), and knowing that I'd already intended to replace the whole system this month, he offered to hotwire it, bypassing the control board, so the air handler would run continuously, meaning I'd need to go to the outside AC closet to manually shut it off when I wanted to turn it off. Yeah, that's a hassle, but not his fault, and his solution gave me a functional AC while waiting for my new system to be installed. With many providers you'd expect to pay a separate repair fee after the initial diagnostic, no matter how trivial the repair, but he didn't charge extra for it. UPDATE: When Ivan left he told me to keep the condenser off for a couple hours so it could defrost. When I turned the breaker back on hours later, the condenser didn't turn on. I called the office, and the staff insisted that Ivan had left the system on when he left. (Not true, as I explained.) At least she didn't keep pushing back on that. She said she'd contact the tech. He called me, we did troubleshooting over the phone, and from that he concluded it was a problem with the breaker. I was skeptical because the breaker was newish, but I examined more carefully and realized it was a little loose, it had popped out of the panel a bit when I initially flipped it off. I popped it back in, that fixed the problem. And again, no charge for the troubleshooting done over the phone. read more

This would be a 5-star review if a couple of things hadn't occurred. I would, however, use Alamo Air in the future because they are doing almost everything right. I needed to replace an old HVAC system in my attic. They gave me a competitive bid. The technician, Mitch, was very personable and diagnosed the dying system rapidly. Even the diagnostic fee was applied against my purchase. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Installers were available a couple of business days later for the job.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] First red flag was the two installers sizing up the job and commenting that they needed a third person but then not calling the installation manager, Chris. The result was an injury to one of the two and a broken shelf in my closet when they lost control of the furnace coming out of the attic, and this could have been a lot worse. I witnessed the situation and was stabilizing the aluminum ladder. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once they called for backup, Chris and two others arrived shortly thereafter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In the end, this was a 10-hour job that did require multiple people. The final incident, which is really the cause of my 4-star rating, was a roof gutter that was installed entirely wrong. I brought to Chris' attention a couple of days later. Rather than securing the metal between shingle layers and fastening it under the top layers of shingles, they drilled right through all layers of my new roof to secure the metal diverter. Chris also noted upon his return visit to make it all right, that they had used drip edge rather than a gutter. They also tore a couple of the shingles. The situation is more or less fixed, though not pretty, and does beg the question of why the installers didn't know how to do this properly and didn't have the right materials. But I give Chris kudos for cheerfully and effectively providing a solution. Lastly, the guys ran an AC test before they left but never ran the furnace test (yes it was hot but...). Chris took care of that as well and stayed to answer any lingering thermostat questions. He also provided a replacement shelf the day of installation and the crew would have installed it but I was too wrung out to start a carpentry project after a very long day. I have the shelf. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am want to give a shout-out to the office staff, Lisa and others. I wrote a review for them on Facebook, but I also wanted to write one on here as well. I have been using Alamo Austin Air Conditioning & Heating since 2019 and Adrian would always come to my house to work on my ancient HVAC system. It was 27 years old and this Spring, when he came by he delivered the bad news that the unit had so much wrong with it that it would run about $2k just to replace all of the parts on the old system. So my wife and I began the process of trying to find quotes for a new HVAC system. I am a firm believer in making sure to do your homework. One of the things that has always stood out for me in choosing to use Alamo Austin Air Conditioning & Heating is the fact that Adrian never tried to force me to buy a new system. In the past, when other AC repairmen would come over, within five minutes they would push me to invest into a new system. Adrian on the other hand told me "just keep this old unit running as long as you can, before putting money into a new one." So that right there shows that he is not trying to upsell me. Like anyone else, I've done a lot of research on HVAC systems, parts and I'm fortunate to have people in my circle to consult with. So after about two weeks of investigating and research I decided to pull the trigger, and go with Alamo Austin Air Conditioning & Heating to buy a new HVAC system. Not only did Matt (the installer,) explain to me the entire process (as did Lisa,) but he showed me where they were going to work on the unit so that it would also be much safer than the old unit was. It was a major job and took them all day to work on. One of the aspects that really impressed me was the fact that they also did a bunch of tests on the system both inside and out. So it was no a rush job at all. I loved the fact that they also went into the attic to make sure that no air was leaking and that the insulation would keep up nice and comfortable. What is so incredible about this company is that they are more like family than just a business. They get to know you, they actually listen to your circumstances (in my case we had some medical issues to contend with,) and they work with you. Additionally, my step father who is a retired contractor remarked that they provided me with one of the most detailed and thorough quotes for a new HVAC system that he has ever seen. When he came by to inspect the work, he gave it an A plus! So that is remarkable to hear that a company just goes all out to help you and make sure the job is done right. Therefore, my family and I will be customers for life. After a complete nightmare full system installation by another company (Mr. Cool), and a couple of repair calls to fix their own poor work that failed. I had no choice except to find a professional A/C company to fix Mr. Cool's mistakes. Adrian arrived on time and started the inspection. He noted several things outside and inside that were not correctly installed. Alamo Austin Air Conditioning replaced two a/c and heating units in our house. Jason at Alamo said the ducting on our ancient system was too small and we didn't have sufficient air return ducts. So they replaced the undersized ducts with larger ducts and added two additional air intake ducts to help balance out the system. They replaced all indoor and outdoor hvac units, installed new pads for the new exterior compressor units, and they hauled away the old junk. It has been several weeks since repairs were completed. All of our rooms are heating and finally cooling correctly for the first time in decades. They were fast, professional, and a pleasure to work with. read more

Problem: The Chrisxxx company replaced compresser bent the copper pipes thus creating Refrigerant leak to soldered parts, Pass the Two year Warranty on house. Our air conditioner went out, right when things were starting to get truly uncomfortable (90s plus temps) and a "warranty" company that promises to fix your AC if you pay the monthly fees, told us not only was someone not available to even SCHEDULE something for at least three more days, but that it wasn't "hot enough" to justify an emergency call (it was 93 outside but felt like a humid 100). I had my elderly mother visiting and small children in my home, and it got so hot that we were literally POURING sweat even at 11pm at night, and had to have four major fans on us in one room just to get through it. I thought "I would rather pay a reputable company to fix this than go with the clowns I already use for my home warranty insurance" and that is exactly what I did. Thank God I called Alamo. They sent Miguel out who showed us our lines were frozen over due to a stuck damper and leaking AC equipment. He did offer to come back the next morning to get us back in shape, and even showed up earlier than he said he would. We had to order some parts, but he still put a temporary solution in place for our capacitor until he could get the right one. This got the air working again. They waived the visit fee due to purchasing parts, and even delayed the billing until the ticket was complete, which is unusual. Usually companies hound you for money the second they get there. They were happy to settle the bill once the parts arrived and installed. I trusted Miguel and didn't feel I was being bs'd or upsold or manipulated into some extravagant bill of goods that would benefit the company more than myself. Miguel showed up Monday, and they had the wrong motor. He apologized and had the right one by the next day. He put in a temporary solution by manually opening our damper, as well as the new install of a more potent capacitor and motor. Everything is working great and I will install the damper in a month or two to complete everything necessary. It is great to have peace of mind, due to Miguel being obviously very knowledgeable and the office staff being on the ball. Being able to trust what a company is telling you in this area is key, and I trust these guys. Alamo Austin Air is a great company. There is a reason they have so many 5 star reviews. I contacted Alamo Air due to our 3 Year Old Carrier Air Conditioner Unit Not Working ! I was extremely happy when I spoke with Lisa on Tuesday 7/5 that Ivan would be at my home on 7/7 by 8:30 am ! The Temperatures lately have been over 100 degrees ! Ivan arrived at my home and immediately came in to assess my problem. He made sure to put 'booties' over his shoes which is a nice gesture. Summary: Very pleased with the work done. Erik Bell was our estimator. He made a thorough inspection. This included checking the breaker box to make sure our breaker and wire gage would be sufficient for the new unit. Erik made some recommendations, detailed in the quote, of some things that would save us some money. An excellent start. The team that came for the install was headed by Matt and included Moises, Nathan, and Dillon. My wife and I were quite positively impressed by their attitude and work. They worked well together, and the quality of their work was very high. They did the extra work that was in the quote, and made sure it was to my satisfaction. At all points in the install they told me what they were doing and why. The final inspection showed they were justifiably quite proud of the work they had done. The Carrier unit we purchased is very quiet, and seems to do a very good job of keeping a balanced temperature all over our house. Note that this work was done in the early spring, and I recommend doing elective work in the cooler season so that the techs are not so stressed. I have also found that providing a cooler full of water and sodas to show your appreciation for the workers does not hurt a bit. read more

They quoted me over $1000 (see image of email attached) and refused to sell me the thermostat so I could install it myself or even tell me the cost of it. When I questioned the price they simply told me I was wrong. When I asked for further information on what the unit costs or what was involved in the installation, silence. I don't usually post reviews but this one interaction really left much to desire. Two stars because the front desk person did at least hear my story. After listening to my story they told me to call the other company that I had been dealing with, which had only made my problem worse. Hence why I decided to get a second opinion. I am now left with a broken AC, a company that doesn't want to own to their mistake and a AC company that would not want to help. Not sure how that justifies their 5 star rating.
