We were replacing both AC and Furnace units in our home. We received bids from 7 companies and thoroughly analyzed each for reputation, price, service plans, labor warranty, and more. Alamo came out on top, and the installation experience was proof that we chose right. They showed up on time, texted in advance, covered all the stairs and floors, cleaned up after their job was finished, and completed a 2-system replacement in just half the day. Great experience, we're very happy we chose Alamo.

Realizing that our AC unit was on its last legs a few years ago, we decided to dive in and invest in a new Payne AC unit today. Jason was extremely communicative, provided options, and was thorough in his explanation. I never felt pushed or "sold," and because of this, I will continue to work with Alamo for all of my AC and heating needs at our home! Thank you for getting this done BEFORE the Austin summer heat comes! :)

I'm giving the Alamo team an exceeds expectations endorsement. We solicited multiple vendor quotes after having a brutal experience with our warranty company over a multi-month period. Eric listened carefully to our challenges with the old unit, even when the unit was working. Eric is the only technician to calculate the air flow our system should receive, and pointing out our system wasn't pulling in enough air. Eric suggested adding an air intake in one of the bedrooms, and modifying duct work in another. I want to thank Eric for his recommendations, as they worked very well after the first night of testing! Eli, the installation lead walked us through what was going to be done so we were all aligned. All duct work was replaced. The team carefully hung the duct work avoiding the mistake of crimping ducts over attic rafters that restrict flow. Eli walked us through the post-installation. I carefully inspected after the job was done. It's rare for me to find a vendor that meets my high expectations, but Eli and team did so with flying colors. The clean up was amazing as well, which most vendors don't do well. All old material was loaded into their trucks. I highly endorse the Alamo team.

Final installation of rain diverter after first try resulted in shingle damage and was improper.

This would be a 5-star review if a couple of things hadn't occurred. I would, however, use Alamo Air in the future because they are doing almost everything right. I needed to replace an old HVAC system in my attic. They gave me a competitive bid. The technician, Mitch, was very personable and diagnosed the dying system rapidly. Even the diagnostic fee was applied against my purchase. Installers were available a couple of business days later for the job. First red flag was the two installers sizing up the job and commenting that they needed a third person but then not calling the installation manager, Chris. The result was an injury to one of the two and a broken shelf in my closet when they lost control of the furnace coming out of the attic, and this could have been a lot worse. I witnessed the situation and was stabilizing the aluminum ladder. Once they called for backup, Chris and two others arrived shortly thereafter. In the end, this was a 10-hour job that did require multiple people. The final incident, which is really the cause of my 4-star rating, was a roof gutter that was installed entirely wrong. I brought to Chris' attention a couple of days later. Rather than securing the metal between shingle layers and fastening it under the top layers of shingles, they drilled right through all layers of my new roof to secure the metal diverter. Chris also noted upon his return visit to make it all right, that they had used drip edge rather than a gutter. They also tore a couple of the shingles. The situation is more or less fixed, though not pretty, and does beg the question of why the installers didn't know how to do this properly and didn't have the right materials. But I give Chris kudos for cheerfully and effectively providing a solution. Lastly, the guys ran an AC test before they left but never ran the furnace test (yes it was hot but...). Chris took care of that as well and stayed to answer any lingering thermostat questions. He also provided a replacement shelf the day of installation and the crew would have installed it but I was too wrung out to start a carpentry project after a very long day. I have the shelf. I am want to give a shout-out to the office staff, Lisa and others. Not only did they register everything for me and handle the Austin Energy rebate, providing email copies of documents, I received a surprise envelope in the mail a few days later with paper copies for my files. Everyone was professional and courteous and easy to reach and talk with.

Ask the Community - Alamo Austin Air Conditioning & Heating

Do you provide new residential construction installation?

We do not do new construction. I would recommend contacting Victor Bueno at 512-817-7333 His family has been doing new construction for as long as I can remember.

Do you do commercial work?

No sir, only residential. Try Fox Service Co.

Do you service Del Valle Tx?

Yes, if it is a central AC in a single-family residential home with the condenser on the ground.

Do you do service in Taylor?

No Sir, we currently do not service that area. Maybe try Star of Texas out of Granger. Joseph will take good care of you.

They took the time to thoroughly clean the condenser and ran multiple tests on the attic unit to make sure everything was operating as it should. What really stood out was how they walked me through the entire process at the end, showing photos and explaining each step. It gave me a lot of confidence in their work and attention to detail. I'm very happy with this company and would highly recommend them.

My AC condensation pipe was completely backed up and needed to be flushed. Their tech arrived on time and seemed very professional, spending about an hour and a half working on the unit and inspecting everything inside and out. However, he couldn't find where the evaporator line exited the house. His solution? Install an external pump and run a whole new drain line. The rough estimate for that was, well, a hell of a lot more than the $15 fee they charged me just to come out and take a look. When he left, I still had the exact same broken AC, was stressing over an exorbitant bill to fix it, and somehow found out I'd been signed up for a $15-a-month service plan that entitled me to another check-up in six months just in time for winter. Hoping to just get it resolved, I reached out to Service Wizard via Yelp later that evening to see if they could come back today to do the work the tech recommended. I never got a response. Frustrated, I called a different AC company. They actually answered the phone, sent technicians out right on time today, and those guys spent **five minutes** at my house before finding the external line, repairing it, and flushing my system. Problem completely solved in under five minutes, and the fee was incredibly cheap compared to the massive quote I got from Service Wizard. I will definitely be canceling my $15-a-month contract with Service Wizard and won't be recommending them going forward. Save yourself the headache and call someone else!

They arrived on a cool day and checked the heating but couldn't do the cooling because of the low outside temperature. I asked them to write up what they could & issue the report. They convinced me to wait a week for the cooling check & would do it for the same price. I was amazed and impressed that an HVAC company would make two trips for $150 but agreed. They returned on a warmer day and said the system needed a new capacitor and 2 pounds of coolant. The coolant was a big surprise to me. Closing date for the house sale was looming and I either had to pay the high price or begin an emergency call with another company. I opted to pay for the coolant. The tech went to retrieve a canister from the van. I went inside the house. But because of my unease I went to the outside unit about 3 minutes later. He startled when he saw me. The canister was not connected. He nervously claimed to have completed the refrigerant addition, and offered a $50 discount. I don't believe any coolant was added, based on the length of time required by other HVAC techs I've seen do that operation over past decades. Trapped, I played along and paid over $500.

I was told I would hear from the contractor within 24 hours. Late Friday evening, I received a text from the technician asking if a Saturday appointment window of 10:00 AM-1:00 PM would work, and I confirmed immediately. Saturday came and went with no arrival, no call, and no update. By 2:00 PM, I had attempted to contact the technician several times before finally receiving a response that he was still on another job. He ultimately arrived around 3:00 PM and completed the visit. I understand that delays happen, especially in the HVAC industry during busy seasons. My frustration wasn't that the technician was running behind--it was the lack of communication throughout the day. A quick text letting customers know you're running late can go a long way and helps people plan their day accordingly. The service itself ended up being fine, but the communication and customer experience could definitely use improvement. Hopefully this feedback helps future customers and encourages better communication when schedules change.

Sorry for the long review...but please read on to hear my horror story with this sorry excuse of a company. I don't normally write reviews (good or bad), but my poor experience with this company cannot go unheard. I feel obligated to warn others of their frankly criminal business practices. I originally called them out to take a look at my old HVAC that was no longer producing cold air. They identified the Freon was low and filled it back up. Worked well for a bit, but then got low again...indicating their was a leak in the system. The unit was so old, we decided to replace the unit instead of fixing it. The new unit was installed, but not without issue. I chose what they described as their go-to brand - American Standard. Apparently their technicians do not know how to install their go-to brand, because it took several days and several different technicians to get the install completed. A year later, the unit began tripping the breaker any time it went to the 2nd stage. Took them 3 days to come out (when approaching triple digit temperatures), charged $150 service fee and $450 in parts and labor to add a capacitor to the setup (a $50 part and about 10 minutes of labor). Did not fix the problem. Tech came out again, and said it seemed to be an issue with the breaker and that I needed to call an electrician to diagnose and solve the problem. Ended up paying $300 for an electrician to come out. When he took a look at the install, he was flabbergasted. He could not believe what he was seeing! He identified the unit was installed on an aluminum electrical line, that was severely undersized for the unit installed. He said no respectable company would EVER do this kind of shotty work. He said replacing the electrical line would likely cost a couple thousand dollars, since it was on the other side of the house. When I called Smart Air to let them know of the situation, the dispatcher was very dismissive. She said she would have their lead install tech follow up with me, but of course I never heard anything back... That is when they went dark despite several additional attempts on my part, and broke communication with me entirely. I ended up having to pay an electrician to run the new line on my own dollar - several thousand dollars - and now I'm finally back up and running.
