Sending love to WNC as the recovery efforts continue post hurricane Helene. Three Chopt is a…read moredowntown Hendersonville sandwich shop that my family and I greatly enjoyed on our most recent visit. It must be a popular spot for the area in general, because we crammed into the last table available, and the waitresses were running around like crazy trying to help everyone. The wife of the husband and wife pairing that own this place was the one who helped us, and she could not be nicer, though just overwhelmed with customers on this particular day. In the kitchen, the husband was cooking up a storm, making sandwiches as fast as he could. The family looks like a melting pot of people from all over, with the central tree in the restaurant bearing arrow signs of their various origins. Cincinnati, St. Croix, and Mexico city are represented. In general, the restaurant has a great feel. I order one of their versions of a reuben, they had a few different takes, this one seems the most like a classic. It was delicious, great decision. Good amount of meat, kraut, tasty dressing, nicely buttered and grilled rye. I opted for the slight upcharge and got fries with my sandwich, they were nicely crisp on the outside and very tasty. Because of how busy they are it was difficult to get a drink refill on this hot day, but I helped myself to one, and that was fine. I have no way of knowing currently the state of affairs at this business, because downtown Hendersonville saw a large amount of flooding. I hope that they escaped great peril, or if they had damage, are able to recover and re-open quickly as the area digs itself out. #WNCStrong

Bagel me this... why did we wait till our last day in town to stop here?…read more This little spot was right around the corner from where we were staying, and it quickly became one of those "why didn't we find this sooner?" places. Small and definitely more grab-and-go than linger-and-lounge, but packed with fresh bagels, friendly faces, and prices that make you do a double take in the best way. The wall of bagels behind the counter was a beautiful sight, with everything from classic plain and sesame to everything and cinnamon raisin. The bagels tasted fresh, service was fast, and everyone was genuinely welcoming. No fuss, no frills, just delicious bagels done right at a great price. Affordable, fresh, and dangerously convenient to where we were staying. We'd happily make this a regular stop if we lived closer!

There is a variety of flavors to choose from such as asiago, French toast, cranberry orange, and pumpernickel to name a few. There are also a variety of cream cheese flavors to put on your bagel. The decor is cozy and they have tables and chairs if you want to eat inside. The help is friendly and eager to please. There is also a soda machine with a variety of flavors, plus coffee and smoothies. The place is clean and so are the bathrooms. Also there is plenty of parking. Have to go now my bagel is calling me.

Because we were neither local nor had reservations, the hostess and our server were dismissive of us. Our server made repeated negative comments about the infant with us, sitting in his car carrier and perfectly behaved. He never cried or was disruptive in any way yet she made a point to say we had to wait to be seated because she "couldn't put a chair (to hold the car carrier) just anywhere." When we ordered she made a point to say she would take our order quickly because when you "have one of those" (gesturing to the baby) "you're on the clock." And finally when she was clearing our plates she made a point to say "since the ticking time bomb (once again referring to the baby) hasn't gone off do you want dessert?" There is never any reason to be negative and dismissive of patrons, but she made it a point to do so multiple times. The couple seated at the next table were locals and regular customers who had not seen that same server in a while. I know this because she sat down with them at the table and had a catch up conversation to include specific and intimate details of her recent surgery and medical issues to include the phrase "I'm a free bleeder." The restaurant was full so I'm sure my review will not impact business, nor would I necessarily want it to, but I do want management/ownership to hopefully address and improve how customers who dare to simply want German food for dinner as they are traveling are treated.

I'm not sure the restaurant could help much with that though. Our waitress was super fast, attentive, and friendly. We had a TON of questions about the menu, and she was patient and friendly while answering them. Our food came out impressively fast and she made sure we had drinks filled. We ordered the cheesy bacon grit balls, and my fiance was a little nervous since he's not a fan of grits. They were absolutely fantastic, and we both liked them! Them! They had a rich cheesy flavor with very slight hint of bacon. They were smooth and creamy and deep fried to perfection. The glaze on top was a great touch as well to cut some of the richness. David ordered the Flat Rock Panino, and he was really pleased with the flavors. For me personally, I thought the pizza shell they used to form the sandwich was pretty hard, almost cracker-like. Not seem to mind though. The chips that came with it were unimpressive and not super crisp. We were really disappointed because we wanted to try their signature Burger, but it was not available that night. I ordered their special of the brisket ends. They were fantastic. The sauce was great, and they truly melted in my mouth. They were so tender! I thought the onion straws were great as well. I was a little disappointed with the corn because it wasn't what I was expecting. I'm not a huge fan of peppers, and that was the predominant flavor since it had red and green peppers mixed in it. The cornbread was good, but it was much closer to a cake texture. Overall, I think we would definitely go back! It was a fun atmosphere with friendly people and food that left us smiling and full.
