The food was good- it was the service that was just awful. We arrived at 10:30am on a weekday and there were about five other tables in the dining room. It appeared there was one lady responsible for waiting on tables and checking customers out (although there were two other employees besides the cook who were hanging around and talking to said lady). She kept leaving our table in the middle of taking our order to take food out to other tables. It was a stressful experience because, while we understood she was only one person, we didn't have hours to spend waiting. As it was, we had to leave in a rush immediately after eating. I would not recommend eating here if you don't have a few hours to wait. It's really unfortunate because we used to love coming here years ago. read more

Well we never did get service. We stood and waited for several minutes. There were 3 waitresses- all busy as bees but without any face coverings. The place was crowded with NO social distancing being observed. After seeing the lack of COVID precaution measures plus standing by the door waiting to be seated for about 10 minutes, we left. What a great local option in Laurel Park when you've got a hankering for breakfast or brunch. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very attentive. I had a bacon egg and cheese biscuit and it really hit the spot. Great portion sizes too. My boys had pancakes and French toast which were both excellent. No complaints all around. It is worth a stop to give Dixie Diner a try. First off don't be fooled by the parking lot if it looks full, this place holds more diners than meets the eye and you can park across the street. When you go in you find a table and seat yourself. The building seems to have been added on many times and is not much to look at, but we usually wander back to the last room that is decorated in an owl theme. If you want faster service sit in the main area. For Sunday brunch they serve eggs Benedict that is quite tasty, get it before they run out. My husband enjoys the large, fluffy pancakes. On Saturdays I usually order the Belgian waffle which is always cooked perfectly with a side of good crunchy bacon. Good homey place where the locals go, you can usually hear a southern accent or two while dining here which just adds to the hometown feel. read more

Stopping in at this diner was definitely worth our time. This place was so close to a five! They fell short in a couple places though. Upon pulling up to this nondescript diner location the parking is tough. Definitely not a place for the drivers ed car to try to navigate. I drive like a pro so you already know that I made my way to the spot. Going in this place is like being in a time capsule from 1985 when Marty McFly was traveling in his Delorean. This seat-yourself diner is alive with energy from the kitchen. I suggest sitting at the bar to watch the cook in action. The coffee was hot and fresh. It has to be. They made 3 pots while I was sitting there, and was brewing up a 4th. The server was friendly and clearly overworked. She definitely earned her money. We ordered 2 sampler platters. If you're not hungry find something different to order. This was like eating a food challenge. IN THIS CORNER WEIGHING IN AT 283 POUNDS WE HAVE RYAN! IN THIS CORNER COMING IN AT 2000 CALORIES WE HAVE THE SAMPLER!! Only 1 of us was coming out as the victor. Upon receiving my 2 PLATES WORTH OF FOOD, I realized I had a fight ahead of me. I started with the biscuits and gravy. The sausage added a decent flavor but needed some salt. A dash of salt and the 1 biscuit the size of the plate was in my belly. The fluffy biscuit stood no chance. The grits were next. A nice big piece of buttery delight hit the mound of grits and got stopped by the protective layer on the top. Grit fans you know what I'm talking about. I mixed in my butter. A dash of salt and pepper and in as few bites as possible, I devoured the ground corn goodness. On to the bacon. I like my bacon crispy but not burned. The fat rendered out like a high quality duck breast. This missed the mark. It was wet and floppy and not what I was wanting. However, I understand that you may like it that way. If thats the case WRITE YOUR OWN REVIEWS!!! Kidding! Variety is the spice of life. Because I'm not a fan of wasting food, I did eat all of my sad bacon strips like a big boy. The made to order eggs were next. Over medium not quite. They were over easy. I'm a yolk fan anyways so I smashed it open and ate the gooey deliciousness. The country ham is not something that I get down with yet. Only living in NC for 21 years, I'm not quite there yet. I understand its supposed to be salty. Its salt cured. It brought tears to my eyes it was so salty. My tears were not as salty as this ham. There was also sausage included but I dont eat sausage on it's own but my fiancee said it was better than the place we went to yesterday. Oh the home fries...what happened to you? Was the cook mad at you when he was making you? Did you desire to go and become vodka, and he stopped you to become home fries. Did he hold a grudge while he cooked you up? He overcooked you so badly a fork wouldn't break you. The color on your skin was that of a lump of coal for your stocking. Sad day to be a potato at the Dixie Diner. The scrambled eggs were much better than at the place that I reviewed yesterday. The restaurant with Scrambled in its name. The atmosphere isn't anything special. Its just a restaurant. The staff was friendly but overworked. It did appear to be clean. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. P.S. Try their homemade muffins. You wont be disappointed. Possibly one of the worst diner breakfasts I've ever had. Table had remnants from previous diner. The pancakes literally crumbled from dryness as you cut in to them, which I have never seen before. Both mine and my husband's. No amount of syrup would make these any better. Home fries were barely warm and looked and tasted like they had been sitting around. All this and the place had a steady stream of customers? I'm clueless, but won't be back. read more

When we arrived it was about 745 am, there was only one waitress but she was doing an amazing job! I wish I would have gotten her name so I could properly give her the recognition she deserves! We ordered the sampler platter for breakfast and a side of french toast. Eggs were cooked perfectly, French toast was nice and fluffy and the biscuits & gravy tasted like it was made from scratch. All the guest seemed to know each other and the staff on a personal level, which to me means they have been going there for a long time! The diner itself is really small and the kitchen crew doesn't have a lot of room to work, but that didn't stop them from putting out great food fast!! I will definitely be returning! read more

We almost started to think we were on 'What Would You Do?'; if we wanted a menu, coffee, to order. Don't think you are going to be offered water, not going to happen. The food was okay, the prices reasonable. The locals, which were very obvious seem to just roll with uncleared tables, being left to stare at ceiling tiles in hopes to eventually be waited on. So we read the reviews, some would definitely deter you from going, however we were close so we decided to try it out anyways. You don't have to wait to be seated, it's a seat yourself location. We found a seat and we're approached immediately by our server Rebecca, which was fantastic. If she hadn't gotten to us, 1 minute after she walked away another server made sure we were helped. Food was great! I got the sampler platter, which was biscuits and gravy, eggs, grits, and meats, my girls got chocolate chip waffles, and my husband got a 3 meat omelet. All was fantastic! There was no dry or crumbly about anything! My girls especially loved the atmosphere, said they had a "Gilmore girls" feel! Thank you guys for great food and service! read more

Not bad.. it does get very crowded and you have to wait in line for a while to pay because they are so busy which is why they're hiring! The French toast was good and the omelets were actually cooked fully not runny eggs or burnt which is hard to find you'd be surprised at what we have been served. Down side is - coffee- very weak,bland. I put just one teaspoon of sugar and it was way too sweet. Potatoes- charred. Not just crispy kind of black and not that hot. The place is very old - out dated . Kind of feels like an old house/trailer/shed? Can't really say it's awkward. The servers were all very nice and food came pretty quick considering it looked like only one guy was cooking . All in all- we would go back because -while,small,the omelets were tasty and that's hard to find for some reason! I would also go back to try some of the baked goods. They looked good. read more

What a great place to have breakfast. We were in Hendersonville for a family weekend and this place was recommended to us by a local resident. Even with 7 in the group they seated us quickly and took great care of us. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, joking with us like we were old friends and not just patrons. Breakfast was served fast and hot. And what a breakfast it was. Country cooking at its finest. Homemade corn beef hash and country fries, smooth grits, fresh sourdough bread, hot biscuits and so much more. They had struggled to keep the doors open during all of the mess going on but managed to do so and things were getting better for them, which is a good thing. Secondly, the home fries (breakfast potatoes) tasted like they poured gas on them. My country ham also had a similar taste. The Dixie Diner is a neighborhood Mom and Pop type place open for breakfast and lunch. Good food, friendly service, and very reasonable prices. The menu is pretty extensive and has almost everything you'll want (except hot dogs). Right on Rt. 64 with parking right out front and in the rear. Small but not with a crowded feeling.
