Absolutely a perfect combination. Wife had the fish and chips, but substituted the hand dipped onion rings. They were the best EVER and she had to eat them with a fork and knife as they were huge. Service was lovely. Restaurant is super cute. The kitchen, on the other hand, was a different story. We waited over an hour for a burger and a few kids chicken tenders. Got my beer & took a drink but when I set the glass down I noticed that the glass had lipstick on the rim so that was the first issue. My appetizer came & it was nothing special but very oily. I noticed several wait staff standing around talking while customers waited at the front to be seated. The place was not busy at all so no excuse for the customers to be kept waiting. We were RVing from New Mexico to Colorado and decided to stop and have lunch at the Purple Toad. It was a great decision! We had the King of Phillys sandwich and fries along with a light beer. The sandwich was phenomenal and I highly recommend anyone going through that area to give it a try. Went a few months back and it was very lackluster. Nice location but staff seemed uninformed about the menu. We ordered a country fried steak with "chile" on the side since we didn't know if we'd like it. It came on the steak so we sent it back. Worst experience!! The waitress first wiped the seat of our chairs then the tables. They got my drink wrong, never brought our appetizer, still tried to include it on our check. Got my order wrong. Fish and chips had raw thick batter. Had 3 different wait people. They did take off the fish and chips and give us a gift certificate. I will not be going back anytime soon. Fun spot to watch the Amtrak train roll by in the evening and fried mushrooms and fried onion ring appetizers were good, my salmon was excellent, but they were out of shrimp for the shrimp po' boy, the hamburger was requested medium rare but was medium and the fries were so limp & greasy we couldn't eat them. But we might have given a better review had our server was extremely rude. She didn't care about us one bit and that is inexcusable since we were there early enough that they weren't very busy. Also, mixed drinks were very weak for the price. Because of the high ceilings and industrial decor the place was very loud and would be even worse when the restaurant was at capacity. Delighted to find this just off I25. Excellent respite. Halfway between Albuquerque and Denver. Decent food and cold beer. Just off Commercial exit. This is a bit hard to find on google and yelp, but it is just off the interstate. Looking forward to another visit in the summer when the doors are open and the patio is perfect. Not a foodie place but a great bar and grill. Going to be hard to wait until Colorado City after discovering this. Service was great. There was nothing left on my plate. Plenty of parking. Purple Toad was a great find in Trinidad, just off the interstate as we were driving along I-25. The place is very nice, clean, and nicely decorated. We had a beer and decent lunch while waiting for a major thunderstorm to pass. The service was great and a manager also walked around checking on the guests. As a bar, it's great and we liked the beer choices. As a food place, there is still room for improvement. My sandwich was great, but the fries were way too greasy and I couldn't eat them. My husband ordered the BBQ sandwich special and although it was good, it lacked the amount of meat the picture showed! That said, we will likely try Purple Toad again when we pass through town. read more

This is a new place in Trinidad, Colorado. It has amazing food and a great staff. The place is new and has several TV's. Great happy hour too. Victoria and Victor are amazing! They help you in every way they can. Check there daily specials out. My favorite...Friday-Prime Rib. YUM! They have a fun outdoor area with fireplaces, pick nick tables, and horse shoes. Came here on recommendation. Service was very slow, maybe the fault of management . There was a large crowd and appeared under staffed. I ordered a frozen margarita/sangria drink that was on the online menu. She said ok and brought a small margarita on the rocks. When I pointed out that she did not bring me what I ordered she then said oh you must have seen the menu online we don't have those here. So I ordered a frozen margarita at this location which was on their hand out menu and she told me they don't have those either So I was stuck with the drink she brought. The first 2 times there were no problems, but the 3rd time I ordered hamburger sliders (cheese was never mentioned) & out came cheeseburger sliders. I asked them to fix it & all they did was scrape off the cheese! I talked to Victoria & she had it fixed with no problem. I phoned in an order for a pizza Aug. 12th around 3 PM. I had to call three times before someone would pick up the phone and answer it I understand that it might be because of short on staff, but then again Thursday afternoon around 3 o'clock how busy could they be ? When the waitress answered I asked if now is a good time to order a pizza and she said yes enthusiastically. I asked if I could order the 12 inch vegetable pizza to go and if they could ad sausage to it she said yes for additional two dollars so that's what I ordered the total was $16.21. I gave her my credit card number so she could charge it while I was on the way to pick up the pizza. When I arrive the place didn't seem real busy and when I went inside to sit down and let them know that I was waiting for the pizza to go they didn't seem stressed in fact they seem chatty with each other having a good day. A different waitress brought out the pizza to me from the kitchen and I signed the credit card slip and it was all done on time no delays. As I was walking back to my apartment I noticed that the pizza was sliding around the box a lot so I stopped and opened it up and wow did it look small compared to what I was thinking but I don't know what 12 inches is exactly but this looks like a 8 inch pizza to me and the sausage was missing so when I got home not wanting to complain because I don't like to. I decided not to take a picture of the pizza not to measure the pizza just eat the pizza and forget about it. The next day when I saw that pizza box again it was still bothering me so I found a tape measure to measure that box the box measures 14 1/2" x 14 1/2" on the inside so that pizza should have just barely fit in the box and I got about an 8 to 9 inch pizza that wasn't even round ,missing the sausage I paid extra for, but fortunately I did enjoy the pizza I ate I really like the crust I just wish I would have gotten the pizza that I ordered especially when considering you could buy two pizzas larger than this at your competitor for the same price. I don't mind paying more for a better Quality pizza but I do expect it to be better when I pay more. I don't think you can blame all that on ,short on staff read more

No refills, no salad before the meal ( which we asked when placing the order), no condiments (until 3 bites left of the burgers), prepackaged ranch, pizza was doughy and squishy in the middle, three tables around us were very displeased and one walked out. Went back to give them another chance....just as bad as the second time. Lettuce and dressing was warm on the Ceasar salad, ceasar dressing drizzled on the top instead of shaken, fish was burned to black (they actually served it like that!!!!!!), no condiments, no extra napkins, not enough utensils for how many, drinks were mediocre at best. I am a mug club member. And let me start off by saying, the beer selection is pathetic! Absolutely zero IPA's, Pale Ales, or anything with any actual flavor! They serve but-lite and other crap beer that is cheap! I usually don't even bother to get my weekly free beer, because lets face it. My urine has more flavor and alcohol in it than the piss water they sling! Also watch out for the beef sandwich they drown in A-1 BBQ Sauce, Disgusting!! Also, no matter how you order your burger, it will be charred on the outside and be well done regardless of how you order it! UPDATE; JENNA HILB @ Purple Toad wrote me; "Our Trinidad location does actually have an IPA on tap, as well as a variety of beers that are overwhelmingly popular with the majority of our customers. We do not use A1 Steak Sauce on any of our food, nor do we even have the condiment on-hand in our establishment. Based on your strong feelings and even stronger language in your message, it is apparent that the Purple Toad may not be the right establishment for you. We wish you the best of luck in finding a local restaurant/bar that meets your expectations." This place used to be my favorite but now it's called Walters and they served me raw fried fish I've been sick for DAYS! over priced and very limited menu, also the manager didn't make our purple toad Long Island right and when we asked her to fix it she said it was only strong because of the type of drink it was. TVs all over the walls showing every sports event, and indoor/outdoor spaces to get together with friends. Walls that roll,up to join the outdoor patios with the indoors join up the space neatly. Amazing stout beer!!! Food is the reason for the low rating. Our order arrived 50 minutes late (after the delivery window we were given) and everything was COLD!! Another thing to know is everything was made from frozen foods... battered mushrooms, cheese curds, burgers... and nothing was seasoned.
