My friend and I were in town for a few days and wanted to try a local spot for food. When asking around several people recommended this spot. I can see why they did. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess, seated immediately and didn't have to wait long before the server was helping us. I ordered the ribs and turkey, both were great. Amazing BBQ stop in a little town! We had our dog so we ordered the food to go and ate it at a park table on the lake. The staff were so kind and made it easy to order our food to go. Made a stop on the way home to San Antonio. Really good bbq. Parking is on the side of the street parking is full. Food came quickly and my son and I shared the bbq plate. So to start this off, I would like to say that they are open till 10 PM even though yelp says eight. We arrived at like 815 so it was nice that they were still open. Only downside is their beers ran out before we got there and I had to pick a different option. I have to do my chicken wings with two different sauces and they accommodated, even to the point where my server said she was gonna try it next time. The first mistake I made was to buy BBQ at a place other than Texas or any other state that is famous for BBQ. With that said....I would not recommend this place. It had all the looks of an amazing BBQ restaurant BUT the food was terrible. I ordered brisket, ribs and sausage. It would have been better to just go to a convenience store and purchase beef jerky. The server was outstanding, some of the best service I have seen in a restaurant. I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich with onion rings. My wife had the grilled chicken sandwich and a side salad. Great little hole in the wall! The food was delicious and the waitress was awesome. My husband and I had chicken fried steak and our kids got chicken strips, buffalo wings, and a brisket sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their lunch thoroughly. Our gps couldn't get us into the parking lot due to construction so we had to go around the block several times but that wasn't a big deal. Stopped by on the way through town. They were pretty busy so in total it took 40 minutes from when we ordered our early dinner ~ 4:30pm to when the food arrived. Our entree came first which was a bit cold, so probably sitting there for a while. Then about 10 minutes later the rest of the food came including our appetizer. Medium sized diner with rustic decor. The place is located downtown Trinidad. Parking an issue. We ordered open face beef sandwich, chef salad and a side of homemade Mac &cheese, however the beef gravy on the open face was a little watery and the homemade Mac & Cheese is more like velvets shells and cheese. I didn't receive the chef salad just a house salad. The salad was okay but not was expecting. The staff was friendly. Very disappointed because usually local mom & pop shops go the extra mile. read more

This spot is very lively and bustling, all the tables were filled at all times on a Friday evening, including the bar seating. The food was not extravagant, so the prices could be lower. Everything we had was not as flavorable for my liking and a little bland. The ice cream was okay, it just tasted like the same soft serve ice cream served at Chinese Buffets, which I dislike, but paired with the cobbler tasted better. I would definitely recommend one of the cobblers for dessert because they are made in house. It's decent food, small town vibes, and employees were friendly and had good service. We stopped here on our way through and since it receives great reviews, made this our stop. I ordered it to go and we sat on a bench outside to eat it because we had our bikes on our car. It was ready quickly and was nice and hot. We had the 2 for $20 meal. We did the sliced brisket (not chopped) and it was super lean and had really good flavor. We also had pulled pork. That was also good. For sides we had the coleslaw. It had a bit of a unique taste that I liked-maybe whatever vinegar they used. We also had the beans and they were just okay. On a Saturday night we went to Smokehouse - it was open and had a fun & busy atmosphere. The food smelled fantastic! Unfortunately, after the hostess seated us, we waited for 13 minutes, without anyone coming to greet us, bring water or to tell us they'd be with us in a minute - nothing. After scouring places to eat on our drive through Tridad we landed on this smokehouse. The reviews looked promising and the mac&cheese bowl looked great. Our toddler is ever the Mac & cheese connoisseur and when we saw it on the kids menu - it sealed the deal. It started off great with a hostess quickly greeting us and taking us to a booth. Then things started to tumble downhill quickly. It took almost 10 minutes for the waitress to get our drink orders- let me be clear it wasn't packed and there was maybe two-three other tables around us. After the drinks arrived we were ready to order. We begin with ordering the little's mac&cheese. She then says "Oh we are out of mac&cheese, ribs, and brown gravy today. Sorry. What else would you like?" I asked for a few minutes but honestly I was really annoyed. I would think being out of things should be the first thing the server addresses as we are looking over the menu. I was also confused on how they could be out of brown gravy- it's a quick item to make from scratch but maybe they don't? Which led me to think maybe the Mac & cheese isn't from scratch either. Anyway since out of 5 of us they only had what 2 of us wanted- we left. The service wasn't great to begin with and I knew if we'd tried something else and the service continued to be lackluster- I'd be even more annoyed. Why 2 stars and not 1? Because the hostess was very friendly and it looks like a neat place to eat- maybe next time we are driving through we'd try again but I'd definitely look at other places in the area. read more
