Stay a while, and I'll tell you why this place was hot garbage...... (Oh good, Yelp recognizes 'Hot garbage' as an ambiance! ) It was quick and painless to order online, and my food was done in less than 15 minutes. Which really was the first red flag. I ordered the chicken shawarma on salad (purported to be a tomato and cucumber afair, with thier Mediterranean house dressing, AND I paid the extra .75 for feta. I was pretty hungry, and I like a little bit of everything, which I can then eat on for lunch the next day, so I also ordered the gyro meat "platter," which consists of the meat over rice, the cucumber/tomato salad, tzatziki and for some reason, a garlic sauce on the side. I also ordered thier stuffed grape leaves and one falafel. I ate a stuffed grape leaf first, and as I said, I was just ravenous. It went down quickly while I drove home and I thought it was pretty tasty. Interestingly though, I didn't go for a second one. When I got home, let me tell you... actually, I don't have to tell you, I can show you! Just look at these photos! I even tried taking pics in the sunshine to make it look better, less depressing... And that's not to deceive anyone, I'm literally just embarrassed that I ate a few bites of each. But if you're hungry and this is what's in front of you, you eat it. First off, that "salad." Yuck. Shredded lettuce that looks and feels like it was shredded a WHILE ago, and iceberg?! They don't even eat iceberg in the mediterranean- they use romaine, typically!! The feta I paid extra for was absent, as you can see, and the chicken was so, SO dry that I reached for my water after every bite to help get it down. I would have had my ice cold coke that I ordered, but they forgot that as well. House dressing? No, it was watery, wilted, iceberg with the juices of tomatoes you'd get in December. It's JULY - these tomatoes were beyond the pale. The gyro meat? Look at it. It looks like chips of dog food. Truly an abomination. And why am I getting some kind of weird garlic butter on the side? It certainly wasn't a sauce - but it passed the Dairy Queen Blizzard test! I held that cup upside down for what felt like an eternity trying to figure out what it was. Overall, I've never been more disappointed in my life. I've also never taken a few bites, and literally dumped the rest in the trash. $37 worth of food (including a $5 tip) just tossed in the dumpster. Later on, I saw an opossum smell it, shake it's head in dismay, and stop it's entire family from going near it. Don't waste your money here. Faith in humanity is precious, don't go here and lose any of that, either. 1 star because the dolmas (grape leaves) came in a reusable container. Yay for that I guess. read more

I ordered the Gyro Sandwich. I asked him why it's $1 more than what's on the board. He said, it included salad. I said, I just wanted the sandwich. When I got my order to go, I looked in the bag, and I had a bonus, the salad came with it. (like in photo with price). It was delicious! I was too full, and fulfilled! I saved my salad to eat for dinner. I wanted to taste it before driving off (were having a picnic in the park - still during the pandemic), but it didn't seem like it had anything on it, but by dinner time, I was ready to add dressing but IT DID have dressing already on it. (I ate it with my home made clam linguine). The dressing was just right, my kind-a style! I like the way he wrapped the gyro, with foil, so you can peel one part off and use as a plate (for shredded lettuce falling off) or keep on your lap, while keeping the rest wrapped up, and I can actually use my finger without getting them messy! Grill On the Go is served from a food truck window and they also do delivery which is great because not many food trucks has that option! Their food is focus on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern. I ordered the Gyro Sandwich and it had a mixed of beef and lamb as the meat, lettuce, tomatoes and some delicious sauce all served inside a pita bread. It comes with a side of your choice of Greek salad or seasoned fries. I ended up with the fries. The gyros were delicious. Had great flavor and packed with food. The pita bread was a tad thick for my liking, but not a huge complaint. The fries were good, well seasoned, but nothing to rave about. All in all, it was an inexpensive meal that filled my Mediterranean cravings. Oh my gosh, this food cart is amazing! My husband told me that this food cart has fantastic rating. We love gyro and have a hard time finding good gyro in town. So we decided to eat there today. First impressioin was that the chef was very friendly. The service was fast. And the price was definitely right. You would expect $5.99 for gyro would not be great. But you would be so wrong. I have gotten many people at work into this place and we order a group order and do family style occasionally. To start off, I'm a gyro connoisseur--and that's all I've had here so far. I've tried most spots in Portland and am aware of regional differences in materials and toppings. Grill on the Go is a Lebanese gyro as far as I can tell. The prices here are affordable and the service is great. I would probably go back to try another dish, but the gyro itself was unfortunately mediocre, surprising with such great reviews. It had tahini sauce instead of tzatziki, although I swear the picture looked like it had traditional gyro sauce. I'm not sure if it was the tahini or the meat but the whole sandwich had a strange, how do I describe this, gritty? Grainy? Mouthfeel. It was really weird and unappealing. Not like pâté, but a sandy meat? Sauce? Sauce/meat? Yes, I know gyro meat is a meatloaf but I've never encountered this particular texture before. To be honest, I didn't finish it and I was really hungry at the time. I guess that's lower than mediocre. Would I ever order a gyro here again? No. "But it's walking distance!" Still, no. Sadly wasn't pleased with the quality of food today. This place has always been good but this year they haven't been that great. Last time I went with my brother in late December/early January and their food made me bloated. Tried again yesterday and Yelp told me my order would be ready in over an hour after I ordered! I was so shocked because it never takes that long. I just thought okay, maybe it's dinner time and they're busy. I got to the food cart parking lot and sat there for a while but it was getting weird out there. There's a lot of strange people hanging around that area in Portland so I just wanted my food quickly so I could get away and go home but I had to wait and wait. The app said it was still in the works after an hour and I couldn't believe it so I told my hubby to go and check in person. Sure enough, it was already ready and waiting for us. But the app said otherwise! Not very helpful at all. Don't know if it was Yelp's fault or the restaurants.... Anyway my fries were cold after sitting out for so long but I just decided to make do with it because we can't expect everything to be perfect anymore in this day and age. The humus was watery and had a ton of oil in it. It lacked any flavor because it was so watered down. Super bad. I've been to many a food car across PDX but never have I been to a cart that the service was like this. The guy running the place was so personable, was asking everyone how their food was, was table touching and making sure everyone had what they needed. You need more sauce? Sure. Extra napkins? Of course. What do you think of the strawberry lemonade? This guy made you want to eat here and I've never had that from any of the food carts here in town, nor do I expect something like that. Maybe one should. The food was typical Mediterranean food, gyros, hummus and shwarma. It was the only cart with a line. Granted on a Monday not many of the carts were open here. I got a gyro and it came with a small Greek salad and pita chips. It was a little on the small side but it was in line with what I paid for it. Don't get me wrong, the food was good. But it was the service that will make you want to stop back here. Support the food carts, there is some incredible food out there even if it isn't brick and mortar. Enjoy. read more

I went to this new food cart at the Ala Carts pod on SE 102nd/Stark for lunch today. They have sandwich and platter options, including gyros, shwarma, falafel, grape leaves, hummus, etc. I appreciated that they also offer San Pellegrino. I was craving a platter with hummus, baba, falafel and stuffed grape leaves and they happily made it for me, even though it was not a menu option. It was $5.99, very reasonable. The baba was really delicious. The hummus was good. The falafel was light and airy. The bread was good and the pita chips were yummy! The service was very friendly, the cart was clean. Came here for lunch today and ordered the Vegetarian platter came with hummus, grape leaves, baba ghanoush, falafel and a salad. Falafel was crunchy and light and had a nice flavor, but the hummus was sweet ! It didn't work for me. The baba was not what I was hoping for, it had the texture of oatmeal. Sadly, it was disappointing, and it would be hard for me to return. If I did, I wouldn't get the hummus or baba. I have to say though, the dude who owns the place and takes your order is a cool stand up guy. We went on a whim and tried Mediterranean a few months back, and it's actually pretty great., now my husband loves it, craves it and begs to have it for dinner every night; we usually get the chicken and beef Shish kabob sandwiches and sooo good, comes with fries. I tried the kabob platter with chicken on the rice and that's super good too. Just love that pita bread! The fresh garlic sauce is also yummy. There are about 9 or ten vendor trucks at this location, but I chose Grill On The Go because Salah the owner was so friendly, outgoing and overall very welcoming. That, and his menu was extremely inticing and delicious! He personalized my meal to perfection, offered free samples and the food was beyond incredible! Been here a few times and I am truly blown away by the food, the service, and the overall warm atmosphere of this place and the hard working Palestinian guys running it. To get 5 stars from a food cart from this reviewer.....you have to be more than good! Their falafel sandwich is really really great. Green garlicky goodness overflows your pita with fresh veggies and terrific tahini and spicy sauces. The hummus is some of the best I've had. No shortcuts here.......it;s fresh every day and you know from the creamy richness of the garlic and olive oil that it's made with love. Their fries are pretty great too and really made my sandwich a plus! Their prices are very reasonable affordable. The 4 of us had a really great dinner for under $40 and that's pretty amazing! What made this 5 stars and not 4.....was their service. We called ahead to pick up our food and they had it ready on time and took great care to package it for take away. My buddy had his 2 year old girl with him and the guys were so sweet to her and gave her a special treat that made her smile. My sister and I came here for lunch today and I am very surprised by how good this cart is! The food was AMAZING! I will definitely be returning...maybe as soon as tomorrow as I loved the food that much! The gentleman who was working was very accommodating. He brought the food to our car due to the cold weather which was very nice of him. We both got the chicken shawarma and that was so delish. They have some of the best garlic sauce I've ever tasted. We ordered it with the seasoned garlic fries but we came right when the cart opened at 11am so the fryer wasn't hot enough, the gentleman brought us instead the Greek salad which was surprisingly very good as well as complimentary hummus and pita (which was also to die for, best hummus ever). I highly recommend this cart and the food, also a healthier alternative to the burrito we intended to get from the cart right next to them. I will continue to come here for my lunch breaks! read more
