First time visiting the food cart pod and decided to go with Shawarma House. I got the beef kebab plate. It came with pita bread, hummus and tzatziki sauce. The beef kebabs were okay. Not as flavorful as other places I've tried. The rice was very bland and so was the hummus. Good portions compared to other locations. The main issue was the communication barrier; the worker spoke little English, which made ordering a little confusing. If you're patient, it's worth a try.

Best gyros in Portland!!! Absolutely packed with bomb ingredients and even did a dairy free one for my wife who loved it! Thx yall

I loved the picture-based menu, with text descriptions.

Shawarma Express is a food truck in a unique food truck dining area called "Core, collective Oregon eateries." The dining court is well maintained and has clean, attractive, and proper restrooms. Now back to Shawarma Express . . . The operators were friendly folks who did things right. Unlike many food trucks, they had a picture menu for every entree (see pic), which I found very helpful for finding what I was looking for. I had the Lamb Arabi, a tasty burrito-style wrap of lettuce, tomato, onion, feta cheese, tzatziki sauce, homemade garlic sauce, and a side of fries. The Lamb Arabi was tasty, and the fries were okay. They were above average but nothing to write home about. Overall, it was a great food truck options and one I wouldn't hesitate to revisit.

    Very good fries...

This is fairly new cart with new owners. The kabob was tasty and juicy. The French fries were better than McDonald's fries, no really... The best thing though is that they are very nice and accommodating. The food pod itself is comfortable and inviting with lots of seating.

This Shawarma Express cart is located in the new CORE pod on se 82nd just south of Powell and is the cart closest to the indoor seating hall. The man operating the cart was affable and very friendly. We ordered a Falafel Plate, Kebab Plate and Baklava. The plates came with generous sides of humus and Tzatziki with a dolma. The falafel and meat was served on top a nice portion of rice and salad. The kebabs looked nothing like the menu photo which showed 2 pieces of grilled koobideh kebabs. The meat was all fallen apart and placed on a heap on top of the rice with tahini squirted on top. (See photo) The ground meat was succulent and flavorful however did not resemble kabobs in any way. The falafel platter came with 6 falafels which were all very tough to bite through and very dry. Not to our pleasure at all I'm sorry to say. The baklava was nice.

DELICIOUS! The food was so filling and yummy. I highly recommend if you come to CORE! I ordered the lamb plate and it was a lot of food! Saffron rice, lamb pieces with garlic sauce, hummus and a little salad. My friend got the lamb wrap and was equally pleased. The lamb was so tender! The lamb plate was priced at $13 and the wrap was $12. The workers were also very kind! Highly recommend

Really enjoyed our chicken arabi and the exceptional service! Great vibe as well! Highly recommend Shawarma House.

We were able to try a wide variety of dishes, and every single one was exceptional. I have dietary restrictions (no onions or garlic), and the kitchen and staff were incredibly accommodating. They prepared separate versions of several dishes for me without hesitation, and I never felt like I was getting a lesser experience. It's rare to find a restaurant that can accommodate food sensitivities so thoughtfully while still delivering incredible flavor. The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish, and the service was impeccable. The staff was warm, attentive, and made our birthday celebration feel special without ever being overbearing. Everyone in our group left talking about how amazing the food was. We couldn't have asked for a better meal or a better overall experience. It ended up being a great spot. The ambiance is great and the bartender was pleasant. They have a seasonal menu, which assures me that we're going to get the freshest produce possible. We started with the Labneh & Confit Butternut Squash. It was fine, but not my favorite dish of the night. The labneh was more like Greek yogurt than cheese, which isn't a bad thing, but I would have liked a little more saltiness. The Harissa Spice Shrimp, on the other hand, was fantastic. Definitely the standout item we actually ordered. The Baked Eggplant was good too, although it didn't quite wow me. I think there was some mix up, as we were first served the Roasted Eggplant Dip. We flagged the server down to say it wasn't what we ordered, but they let us keep it. Boy were we happy about this! It was the best dish of the night (and a must reorder). The pita to go with the Labneh and the Dip was excellent too. Piping hot and just right.

Nicholas Restaurant has a really cute, welcoming vibe, with outdoor tables and plenty of seating inside. The hummus tasted incredibly fresh, the tzatziki had a nice tangy kick, and the falafel balls were perfectly crispy and flavorful. The young lady at the counter gave possibly the worst service I have experienced in a long time. She gave no acknowledgment, no recommendation, seemed bothered that we were there, no response when we said thank you multiple times. ZERO ENGAGEMENT! The place is also dirty and appears unkept. The outside seating area has trash and debris from the previous day...we were there right after open... needs to be swept. Doesn't appear like it has been pressure washed in a while either. Planters are smeared with dirt, concrete stained with food buildup and tables need a bath. The inside is just as bad, which starts at the front door. Front glass looks awful...smears, dirt, grime, and streaks galore. There are also signs peeling and tape residue left from signage that used to be present. Soda machine and bathrooms were also beneath expectations. You can't have a "thank you for supporting small business" sign if you aren't doing your part. I would love to support you in the future, BUT service and cleanliness must improve.

The short rib arancini were crispy with a nice sauce and are ordered by the each. I forgot to mention that the menu is designed for sharing so plan on 2-3 dishes per person. The spicy pork pasta had fun thin ribbons of noodles with a curly edge (like skinny lasagne noodles) and wasn't too spicy.
