Just got off the airplane at DFW and wanted to get pizza. Walked in at 2:40pm and was told they stoke the fire at 3pm. The man proceeded to tell us they stopped taking orders because they "clean out the oven every day" and then said we could get a salad. The timing didn't make sense, he was a bit condescending and who the heck goes to Grimaldi's for a salad. I'll never return to this location. I'll give my business to the Grimaldi's in my area. My wife and I really enjoy the food here, when you can get it. The last two times we were here we were told it was going to be an hour wait because they were changing the coals in the ovens. It would be nice if the restaurant were to close the hour everyday that they have to do this and that it was a consistent time. It's annoying to travel to a restaurant that seems open and ready to serve, only to be told that they are a pizza restaurant that can't serve pizza. Sooooooo good! The servers were attentive, but not overly so, and the food was awesome! The caesar salad was particularly good, not overdressed like a lot of places. The margarita pizza was so fresh tasting, and the basil was very well distributed. We had a fun time, and all of the desserts were delicious! I really enjoyed it when the owner came out to talk about the history of Grimaldi's, it was interesting to hear about how they change the water so it matches the water in New York, which makes their dough so unique (and oh, how that crust was tasty, tasty goodness). The wine list seemed to be a good selection of moderately priced, varied wines. I got the Drops of Jupiter (Red blend) and really enjoyed it. It went great with the pizza and salads, and I would definitely order it again. We love Grimaldis but learned a valuable lesson today. Went at 3:00, nobody in the place. The manager told us that they had taken down their brick oven after lunch and it would be ONE hour before we could order any pizza. I never heard of this before and told her it was not very smart to shut down during business hours. She replied in a rather flippant tone "It's necessary." So, they lost four customers who would also be buying wine. Moral: avoid Grimaldis in the afternoon. read more

The experience we had here was incredible! I want to give a shout out to the manager Adam for getting our very large party situated and ready for us when we got off the plane today. Our server Brooke was absolutely amazing. She handled our craziness with grace and respect. We had 3 small children with us who all just sat through a 3 hour plane ride. They were crazy running around and playing and my son actually ran right into Brooke. But she didn't get mad at him or us for his energy. She laughed and talked with all of the kids. I am unbelievably impressed by the service and food was delicious as well! Their pizza is amazing, their crust has flavor but their sauce is tarte and delicious. You can taste the quality of ingredients in their food. We added garlic, meatballs and ricotta to ours, the meatballs were soooooo good, probably the best part. My husband said they have great " topping distribution" lol whatever that means. We also got their oreo cheesecake which was good as well, sweet but not too sweet! The only thing subpar was their sangria, it was kinda gross actually and 10 dollars a glass. Horrible experience. I understand being careful, but requiring a mask to walk three feet to a table is just controlling. My husband has a documented medical condition and isn't required to wear or even have a mask. I was wearing one and the manager still got a snarky attitude and said we were not welcome there if he wouldn't put a mask on for the two steps it would take to get a table. First time visit with my husband, and very disappointed, given all of the good reviews I had read. The service was extremely slow - we placed our food order at 6:30 and finally got our pizza at 7:45. We ordered the antipasto as an appetizer, a Grimaldi salad, and a Brooklyn Bridge pizza. After waiting 15-20 minutes, we finally asked our waitress to check on the antipasto. She gave a shocked look, went to the kitchen and came out with that order; it was however very lovely tasting. After finishing the antipasto, we waited another 20-25 minutes and asked the waitress if our other food was going to come out. She said the salad person was new and running behind, and asked if she could bring the salad out with the pizza - we said sure thinking that would be somewhat soon. 15 minutes later when nothing came out, I popped my head around the kitchen corner to ask her if the food was coming out anytime soon. She said the salad was ready and she could bring that out, but the pizza wasn't ready yet - I said that would be fine to get the salad. Towards the end of eating our salad, the pizza finally came out but burned on the bottom. I would have asked for them to replace the pizza, but I didn't want to wait another hour. Again, very disappointed since we loved the vibe of the restaurant and were considering bringing the grandkids when they were visiting in the summer. I'm afraid if my patience was tried with just the husband and I waiting, there is no way we'll try it with the grandkids. One point to note - we saw at least 50 pizzas go out the door with pick up orders in the time it took to get our one pizza. I'm always in the area & travel thru DFW airport all the time so it's a perfectly convenient location for me. I'm a super busy person & location location location matters. In a perfect world where money grew on trees I would review every restaurant. Yelp is a incredibly useful app for finding great food when reviewers take it serious & write well informed reviews of places that deserve them good or bad. On a side note, I never write a review of a place I been to just once only mediocre places I would never return. More importantly, Yelp is not a game to me. If I want to collect votes, likes, scores etc., I will play a game of solitaire or pac man on my phone. Having said that, believe me when I tell you that if you haven't tried Grimaldi's you need to ASAP. Some people speculate that the crust taste the way it does bc of the taste of the water the dough is made with in NYC. Some say it's the flour blend. We love Grimaldi's! We come here often and the service is always great. On a Friday night or weekend, it can get packed and busy with dining in plus takeout orders. . It has a great Italian cafe /industrial atmosphere with the red check table clothes. Mainly the menu is pizzas, salads, and calzones. The pizza is one that's better eaten with a knife and fork. Little flimsy but the sauce tastes homemade. The wine list is extensive and cocktails are always delicious. One way I judge a good cocktail is the cherry. I definitely have to give this place a better than average. The pizza was a classic New York style very tasty and you can tell the ingredients for a good quality. Our table of 6 shared 3 pizzas and one salad and we all left pretty full and did not need to eat for the rest of the day. I do have a couple drawbacks on the place though. My first drawback is that all three pizzas that we had for a little bit dry. I am not a person that likes a lot of sauce on a pizza but these pizzas had barely any on them. My second drawback is it there was no lunch menu. The pricing structure is such that it is really not conducive to having individual meals, leaving the complication of having to get a group from work to agree upon the pizzas that will be ordered. The food was great and my only complaint is that the dough was really thin and couldn't support itself with one hand holding it by the crust, not that I have a problem holding it with both hands. The crust was to crunchy for my liking on the outside, but with the thicker areas of the crust and inside it was pleasantly chewy. Some people prefer a crisper crust but that's just not mine! Grimaldi's Pizzeria isn't for everybody, and that's unfortunate. However their pizza's have authentic char marks on the bottom, that impart a smokey charcoal like flavor to their pizzas. I personally luxuriate is the taste of a well charred pie, but certain people will find it off putting. The coal bricks do parle a very especial finish to the crust and toppings even. Also Grimaldi's is relatively expensive, now that isn't without saying that their ingredients aren't top shelf, because they are, but in terms of food preparation, most pizza related ingredients are fairly cheap. While most things I've tried here are well made, my favorites to date are the Mediterranean salad, the white pizza with garlic (though I add prosciutto and or pepperoni), and the Quattro Formaggi. The Calzones are also quite nice for lunch or if you're not planning on completely blowing your daily allotment of calories. I do also have to commend them on their new house wine, the Mille Gradi, it's a Tuscan wine, which already makes it a great choice in my mind. Also since it's a house label, they can sell it at a slight discount relative to something that wasn't private label. Overall, Grimaldi's is reminiscent of Coal Vines in Southlake, but I feel that since Coal Vines changed ownership that Grimaldi's does the same sort of menu better. read more

Horrible, absolutely inedible pizza:-( Soooo disappointed, as I was at one in Phoenix last week and was recommended by the waiter to order The Don with ricotta cheese and garlic. I was extremely excited to see that there was one in grapevine! So, that's what I ordered. First pizza came out with sausage only; second one came with all toppings but no sauce and the ricotta cheese was dried up with copious amounts of bottled minced garlic poured on top. My husband's pizza came out all dried upwith barely any sauce. The manager offered us a choice of dessert from two selections. We declined and she took off one pizza. The leftovers were put in a box and thrown out as soon as we got home. We live in OKC and drove 3 hours for this because I loved it so much in AZ. The pepperoni looked like slim Jim meat, which was totally different from the large slices in AZ. I was told by our waiter that the owner owns all three restaurants in the Dallas area and they all serve the same, which is extremely cheap quality for what you are paying for. Nothing was fresh--slim Jim pepperoni, frozen meatballs, and scattered sausage is all your going to get on The Don. And please stay away from anything with garlic or ricotta--not fresh. Please train your staff on how to put ricotta and garlic on a pizza, especially when you are charging over $2 per topping. I equate this to Cece's pizza buffet--I've actually had better at ceces! Our waitress, who was also the only bartender, was sweet enough but my husband had to physically walk to the bar 3 times to get a refill.
