So far, with two visits, it's probably a 3.5. Went 3-4 months ago, and tried the Asian salad and Tex-mex egg rolls. Both were solid, I think I remember the salad being a bit small. On our way home from southern Ohio, my dad, his brother, and his cousin, and I tried to visit an Amish restaurant in the area. But that restaurant and another one that we tried to get seated at had 30 minute waits. So my uncle recommended Grinders and off we went. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated. The waitress arrived a short while later and took our drink orders. I asked for a Mountain Dew, which I don't see on the menu often at restaurants. For dinner, I ordered a Santa Fe chicken salad, my uncle ordered spaghetti and meatballs and his cousin ordered a BLT. A little while later, our meals were served. My salad was very good. The chicken was warm, tender, well seasoned, and generally delicious. Great salad and I would order it again. However, there were some other items on the menu that I might try like the Italian sandwich or the Santa Fe chicken wrap. Food and service were very good. read more

After a trip to Millersburg and Berlin, my hungry hubby and I decided to avoid the crowded restaurants in Amish Country and find a place to eat on the way home. Stopping at Grinders in Dover was a great choice! The restaurant is located in a little shopping center, and is much bigger than it looks from the outside. The service was excellent and the menu extensive. I chose the stuffed pepper, and my husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs. We each chose a chopped salad as our side. My pepper was excellent; tender and flavorful. The salad was fresh and included mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, and croutons. The restaurant was very clean and tastefully decorated. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I had a to go order with a meatball sandwich and a tender loving sandwich. Not only that I had spent another 20$ at least on pies when I went in. As I get home to eat I notice my chicken sandwich has no mayo. No big deal I'll throw some on there. Then my girlfriend goes to eat her sandwich. NO MARINARA SAUCE. Then when I call to make a complaint I had to call 5 different times because I kept getting left on hold then I finally got hung up on. I used to come to this place when I was in high school and have always had a decent experience. The food is pretty average, nothing outstanding. The service is ok as well. It rotates servers out, so you don't see many of the same faces for too long. The shop is neat and clean. Overall, everything is A-ok. Nothing bad, but also, nothing to be wowed over. read more

BEST dinner I have had in years! Stuffed peppers over angel hair pasta, sauce was sweet. Peppers stuffed with sausage and cheese. Grace was our server, think she was new. Very busy, but yet she treated us like we were her only customers. read more

Grinders is one of my all time favorites. It's like a combination of a local restaurant and a big business restaurant. It has great food, a great atmosphere, and great staff. There is fairly good seating considering they have to be in a smaller location. The food times are not long. (Max I've had is 25 mins), and the waiters/waitresses are always checking on you. I definitely recommend the Santa Fe Chicken or the Sky High Meatloaf sandwich as starter meals. read more

We make the trip to Grinder's at least once a month. We LOVE the Amelia's sweet potato chips as a starter. Great menu selections and everything is fresh and good, but I'm partial to the Sante Fe Chicken Grinder. It's our local fave at a very reasonable cost. Highly recommended. read more

Been there 3 times in the last year......the wait staff is horrible.....definitely needs much more training. Now this last time found out under new management, changed all the cool décor to more of a country theme which is ok. Horrible service, our waiter was new and only had 3 tables at a less busy time of day, but again poorly trained, had to ask numerous times for several things he forgot, by the time we got them we were through with dinner. The quality of the food went downhill at least the previous times the food was delish. Under the new management terrible quality, terrible service. First of all, they changed the decor in the restaurant which was so unique before and now it is nice but nothing unique. all the tables are far too close together.....I realize they are trying to seat as many people as possible but ours was way too close. Then later they sat some loud mouths behind us that ruined our meal (not their fault about them being loud mouths though). Our bill came to $ 46 and change, the meatloaf dinner was terrible and my husband couldn't finish as it was that bad! Now the green beans were excellent. I had a taco salad which was okay. There was too much cabbage in the mix, not enough chilli, and had to ask for a lot more sour cream which was brought to me in tablespoonfuls. The last time I asked for some the waitress did bring me a bit more but it was like the kitchen thought it was gold. I gave up on the sour cream. We also ordered appetizers Potato skins which were excellent but were served again with one tablespoon of sour cream for 4 large potato skins. (I brought them home so I could get more sour cream) My husband and son had the mushrooms, which were excellent also, with the best horseradish sauce they had ever tasted. When we inquired as to the brand of horseradish sauce it was, we told that the management said it was a secret. Now to the waitress, she was nice and refilled our glasses and attended to us very well so she received a good tip. It has been a year since we ate there because everything was so terrible the last time we had been there, especially the service! However, this time the service was good. But due to the rest of the issues we WILL NOT go back. This is the 3rd time in 3 years that we were disappointed, Way too expensive for the quality of food, not enough elbow room, and not having the customers interests at heart. I will not recommend anyone to go there. It is sad as we don't have that many good "sit-down" restaurants in the Dover Phila area. They are missing the chance to be that shinning star. read more
