After a long day we tried the Point for dinner. It was Burger night specials so 3 of us got those and the fourth person got a Philly Cheesesteak. Well first off I have to say the waitress Alexis was top notch. She had quite a lot of customers but she didn't miss a beat and took care of everyone. I had the apple glazed pork chop. It was good but a little too peppery for my taste . My side was pointe pasta with Alfredo and tomatoes sauce and side salad that was good. Celebrating a birthday...came early because we had an infant with us. Ordered the seafood crock for the table. It was a bit salty. Each of our main dishes was very salty!!! I usually do not order pork chops when I go to dinner. Mostly because they are dry and not cooked well. That was until I ordered the bourbon and apple pork chop. It was fantastic, great flavor and not over cooked. We also ordered the honey glazed salmon and it was just as good. Both of these are definitely good choices. First time visit to Pointe Dining. A little off the beaten path, a few minutes northeast of Dover right off route 800. Plenty of parking out front. Visited on a Wednesday evening, and it was pretty hoppin'. For a starter, we got the Seafood Crock ($12). It was a cheesy, creamy mix of lobster and crab, served with fresh, crispy tortilla chips. It was way more meat than cheese, and really filling. Savory with just a touch of salt. 9.2/10 Got a couple different entrees. The first was the pan fried perch ($19), and the other was their "small" prime rib ($23). We'll get to those in a moment. First, let's talk about the sides. Side Salad with two different dressings. The white French and Patty's Italian. The salad was your run of the mill side salad. But the dressings? *Chef's Kiss*. The white French was creamy, sweet and a little tangy. One of the best white French I've ever tasted. Then there was Patty's Italian. I think the Italian part might be a little misleading. I'd say more of a cross between a sweet n sour/poppy seed, and a traditional oil and vinegar. Whatever you want to call it, it's a must try. I found myself dipping the dinner roll in both salad dressing containers. 9.5/10. Next up, was the Pointe Pasta as a side (+$5 up charge). I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but boy was I not disappointed. It was about the size of two sticks of butter next to each other, honestly big enough for two. They take pasta, give it an egg wash and chill overnight, add some seasoning, and then when it's ordered, it gets breaded and deep fried. They asked if I wanted red sauce or Alfredo, and I actually ended up doing half and half. It had a wonderful crunch from the breading, a savory goodness from the cheese and sauce, and a perfectly cooked pasta on the inside with just a hint of sweetness. Just imagine the best cheese stick of your life, only filled with pasta and topped with a cream sauce. Phenomenal. 9.7/10. The Honey Balsamic Glazed Brussels sprouts were another side. Pan fried in oil till nice and soft on the inside, and blackened/crispy on the outside. A wonderful mouthfeel with the crunchy and soft in each bite. The glaze was both sweet and tangy, and made every morsel delicious. Even though I was beyond stuffed at the end of the meal, I made myself finish the Brussels. They were that good. 9.4/10. The last side we got was the Parmesan risotto. As risotto goes, this was one of the better ones I've had. A nice creaminess without being watery. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. When this was the fourth best side, and still this good, you know you're having a good meal. 8.8/10. On to the entrees, which while both good, were almost upstaged by the sides. The "small" prime rib ($23) was small like a guy who is 6'10" nicknamed "Tiny". It was honestly huge. If there's a size bigger, I don't know how they'd plate it to be honest. It was thick cut, and came out precisely medium rare like I had requested. Swimming in their house au jus, and sprinkled with fresh peppercorn, it was a solid prime rib. Not the best I've ever had, but certainly up there. Like any good prime rib, you need to navigate around some fat, but that's part of the fun! 8.5/10. Lastly, there was the pan-friend lake perch. This is a Lake Erie white fish, pan seared wonderfully. Fish is fish, so nothing to report out of the ordinary, just a solid offering, particularly how it came out cooked and seasoned. 8.3/10. We were offered dessert but had absolutely nowhere to put it. If the desserts were anything like the mains, I'm going to go out on a limb and say they're pretty darn good. Our server was very friendly and prompt. Respect to her as well for taking an entire dining room by herself, and not making it feel that way. She, and one busser were a well oiled machine, and made everything about the meal a little better. 9/10. At the very end of the meal we were met by the owner, who couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. She told us about a few other local must-try spots. Love to see local supporting local. Overall, this was an absolute home-run of a first visit. The food, service and everything in between was nearly flawless. Will 100% be adding this to my regular rotation of locally owned spots. We are driving across country from California to NJ and landed in New Philadelphia for 2 nights. We played golf at Shadow Oaks (a fabulous course) then looked for a dinner place. We checked online and stumbled upon Pointe Restaurant. It is as beautiful inside as the pictures online show. The folks were VERY nice and got us in on a Friday night. The food was delicious! We started with the roasted red pepper soup. Moved on to the lemon chicken with sun dried tomatoes, Brussel sprouts and risotto. OMG it was delicious! No dessert-we were stuffed. So disappointing! We just so happened to be in the area and decided to give a new restaurant a try. Reviews were good, so we decided to go. Big mistake. HUGE, in fact. The ambiance is bad. Decor is from the 80s, at best. Super dark inside. Our waitress (Alexis) was not very engaged with us at all, even though we were one of the first couples there, and the restaurant was NOT busy. We ordered dinner, each of which came with 2 sides. Salad was one of our choices -- to be identical side salads. I got a salad with only romaine lettuce in it, while my husband's salad was only field greens. There was a small sprinkle of cheese, 1 cherry tomato and two slices of red onion on each salad. Very very basic salad, and definitely not consistent. Salad dressing came in a pre-packaged plastic container. We received rolls and butter. Two people...two rolls. Butter was also prepackaged in a plastic container. And not enough for both rolls. But whatever. The rolls were tasty and were the best part of the meal, sadly. Entrees came--we ordered the same thing--my steak was to be medium rare (and I specifically said "medium rare...not medium."). My husband's was to be medium. BOTH were nearly well done! . To make matters worse, there was NO flavor to the steaks. We relied on salt for flavor. Such a tragedy when you're already paying $27 a plate. As I know we're never returning, I didn't bother saying anything about the flavor or the incorrect cook temperatures. I'm sure it would have fallen on deaf ears. Brussels sprouts were ours sides. Although they say they are honey glazed, they were so sweet that you couldn't TASTE the vegetable. Awful. Lastly, our steaks were served sitting in a pile of liquid. Who serves a seared steak sitting in a pool of "wet?" No reputable place I know of. We went to celebrate a birthday and had such a bad experience. There was no offer of a birthday dessert or anything like that, even though we had mentioned it at the time of making the reservation. If we had just received a great meal/service, we would have been more than satisfied. I don't know who is giving this restaurant a 4.4 out of 5, but this is barely a 1. Recommendation: go somewhere else and spend your money more wisely. This is NOT the place to go! read more

Let's first start off with our amazing server (Deanna). She was all about service and attentive to our table of six needs. Pointe should be excited to have you as part of their team. Now, let's talk about our culinary experience; however I'll point out my tasty nom noms. I was pretty basic with the beverages, until my crew coerced me into trying a (mini beer shot). Well, it turned out there is no beer and poured with Licor 43 and a float of heavy cream giving the appearance of a beer. I have to say, it was pretty good and because I don't often indulge it snuck up on me during my starter. I started off with the Mussels. These awesome things were the bomb. Tender and wonderful with a butter bath could have been placed in a cup and I would have drunk it. They were that darn good and is a MUST. I then opted for a salad with ranch dressing. Maybe it was the booze, but it was also amazing and I'm a Pescatarian and all I eat are salads and seafood. We also had fried pickles on the table and they were very tasty and I typically don't like them and ate (3). Now for my main dish: Honey Glazed Salmon which I ordered (medium) and it was perfectly cooked to temperature. The Brussel Sprouts are another MUST have and if I were alone, I would have ordered another order or two to go. Obviously there was no room for dessert for anyone, but it appeared that everyone else enjoyed their meal. I can only praise this establishment and will keep on supporting local business here in Tuscarawas County. Perhaps I'll check into seeing if they can cater at my facility one day. They were a little busy and understaffed when we went, so the kitchen ended up accidentally getting cheese in her salad. Came here with my sister for her birthday. She had already been once before and wanted to return for the prime rib. The staff was very friendly and helpful making sure we were taken care of. The place has a lot of interesting decorations that don't really seem to fit one theme. I started with the French onion soup which was very good. The onions were still a little solid but it was incredibly flavorful and I finished all of it. I got the shrimp and risotto with a loaded backed potato for my meal. Sadly this left me disappointed. For some reason my entire dish of shrimp and risotto had a very bitter flavor that was both unappealing and hurt my mouth. (We suspect a bad lemon might have been juiced into my dish because the normal risotto was very good) so I barely ate any of it and the baked potato was just ok. My sister also got a less quality slice of prime rib than she did last time which soured her enjoyment a bit (although she still enjoyed it) but my mother loved her salmon and Brussels sprouts. My creme brûlée dessert was perfectly adequate. I've had much worse creme brûlée but I've also definitely had much better. Perfectly fine describes it well. I'd be willing to return here despite my bad experience with my main meal do the quality of the soup and my mothers meal telling me their capable of more than I happened to receive this time. read more

Our party of 4 ate at the Pointe this evening, and I am ready to rate my experience being this was my 3rd visit in a year, and we live over an hour away. My meal was a solid 5 from start to finish, as was all of my other 3 team members experience. My Prime Rib (rare) was perfectly prepared, my salad with Sweet & Sour dressing was great, the Brussel Sprouts were amazing, and the Mussel App was as good as I have ever had! The others of my group had a steak, salmon, a Prime Rib, with baked potatoes, brussel sprouts, and a. Outlet deserts. No one was disappointed in their meal choices. So, how did I rate our experience at the Pointe tonight? The food gets a solid 5, the facility a 4, the service a solid 5 and the value a solid 5. I rate our experience at the Pointe a solid 5! We went there for our birthday on 11/5, I ordered a special which was walleye, asparagus and sun dried tomato risotto. The walleye was huge lightly breaded, slight flavor but the dill caper sauce helped. Risotto is my favorite and this was one of my favorites along with the perfectly cooked asparagus! The atmosphere was still outdated from when I was there 10 yrs ago but again I don't really care about that. Drinks were good. We had the crab cakes for an app and they had little filler. They have one IPA which was the voodoo ranger and their blue Patty's drink was good! They don't have drafts but have domestic bottles. This was the worst dining experience I have had in some time. It was the first and only time I will visit this establishment. Service was extremely slow. Waitress was friendly enough, but didn't really apologize for slow service and made several mistakes. Wait staff was clearly understaffed. I'm not sure if the situation was the same in the kitchen, but I would have to guess so judging by how long it took for anything and everything to arrive at the table. Some other tables seemed to be getting marginally better service, but I could not figure out why. Perhaps they were regulars, I'm not sure, but our table was not overly demanding or at all unpleasant to the staff. My guess is we were just the most unlucky table out of a whole restaurant of unlucky customers. The food was nothing special at all. I ordered the prime rib, which is supposedly one of the things they are known for. It came out cooked correctly, but it was barely warm as though it had been sitting for some time without any heat before the waitress picked it up. I think they used Old Bay seasoning... I guess this is what turns a regular dish into a restaurant's "specialty" in New Philadelphia/Dover. Although mine was cooked correctly, another member of my party ordered his to a different temperature and it was cooked the same as mine. I got the wrong side dish with my meal, but was so frustrated by this point in the meal that I didn't bother asking for the correct one. We had a party of four and we we went in with the intention of eating and leaving relatively quickly, but the absolute fastest we could get in and out was roughly two hours and fifteen minutes because the service was SO extremely slow. This is pretty absurd, seeing as it is often possible to get in and out of a restaurant in about an hour with a party of four. read more
