Overall great food BUT small deductions for a few hiccups. We ordered food to go while driving thru ahead of time but food took longer than quoted 20 minutes. Our sweet potato fries were delicious but cold. I ordered the veggie burger with no mayo but it was slathered on. The major redeeming quality of this was that the burger was one of the best I've ever eaten. It was thick and hearty topped with a pineapple! I definitely didn't miss the other half of the bun. The piece' de resistance however was the Peanut Butter brownie!!!! The pb topping was whipped to perfection. The staff was super friendly. We will try to stop again as we travel through this area at least monthly! I am from Chicago and I was passing through Minerva for the Fourth of July. I could not drive anymore because it was getting dark and I was discouraged from driving at night. Since there are only two "Rest Areas" on the expressways for 200 miles of driving, I asked that if I ordered food at the restaurant whether I could park my car and camp overnight in the parking lot in a spot that is out of the way. Seems like a reasonable request under the circumstances. Right? Important: On a side note, there really SHOULD be MORE THAN ONE REST AREA on the highway system for every 100 miles. It is really dangerous!!! Somebody should contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Department of Transportation to request more "Rest Areas" to be installed on the highway system with drowsy truck drivers on the roads. Regarding my request, the manager or owner came out and said with a disapproving scowl that this was a "private parking lot" and that the "police would investigate any cars that were parked overnight". She also said that I "should not park anywhere else in Minerva either". I suspect that this woman manager or owner knows the police on a first name basis. She probably knows the health inspectors on a first name basis as well, because there was a strange smell in the parking lot. I also suspect that this woman is a bit like Harriet Oleson on Little House on the Prairie and believes that she controls everything in the town. As a result of her denial, I needed to drive over one hour in the pitch black darkness to a Rest Stop nearly 100 miles away. Seems like Minerva does not like anybody who is not a direct resident in the area. This manager of Grinders basically told me to "go away", so I would discourage anybody from out of town from stopping to eat in Minerva, especially at the Grinders restaurant. In my opinion, the town is a tiny, dirty town with rough unpaved roads, where the roads are similar to a roller coaster and the town is fairly impoverished with dilapidated houses. If I were this woman's judge, I would sentence this woman to live out her life in Minerva in Ohio, as that seems like punishment enough, since Minerva is essentially a prison without walls. The Minerva Monster is alive and well at the Grinders restaurant. Look elsewhere for a restaurant to stay and eat a meal. Your money would be better spent in a different location other than in Minerva, Ohio. Positive reviews for Grinder are considered as highly suspect and self-serving, based upon the local environment. read more

Great little spot to get lunch! Whenever I come up to Carrollton, Ohio we always stop in here and have lunch with my cousin, it's kind of a tradition. The service is good and the food is outstanding. It was our second time eating here and this place is great the food is absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is casual and laid back the wait staff is great we actually got the same waitress both times and she was wonderful. The first time there I got a crab cake sandwich. And my husband got the meatloaf we both couldn't stop talking about how great the food was. The second time he got the mahi sandwich and I got the Asian salad, with salmon and again we weren't disappointed one bit. Their desserts are out of this world. You can't beat the prices for the kind of food your getting. The building itself has another gift shop and a spa with great products and services so if you have to wait for a table, you won't be bored waiting. This is just one of this small town places you tend to get fascinated with. It's good, but I'm not as obsessed with the place as my family. We usually tend to start off with the Spudniks (fries covered in cheese and bacon). The Texas Burger is pretty good. It involves a 1/2 lb burger, two types of cheeses, bacon and an onion ring. The grinders are your typical grinders. Nothing special there. The honey bbq chicken is pretty good too. Never tried their desserts though. We wanted something quick and different. A friend said to try Grinders, just down the road. We weren't disappointed. We ordered a cup of mushroom and wild rice soup, which was full, I mean full of carefully sliced musrooms and delicious wild rice in a rich, creamy sauce. We decided to split the large pot roast grinder. That, also did not disappoint! Delivered in two baskets, the well done and juicy pot roast, sauteed onions, and mushrooms were just right. A little messy, but it didn't matter. I would choose this over the Phili cheese steak any day. I like Grinders. read more

I used to love going to grinders...it was always a treat. Now it's the luck of the draw. If you catch them on a good night, it's good food. We used to just avoid the weekends. This used to be a very nice place to eat, a place that I thought the small town of Minerva could brag about, The staff are very friendly and courteous but however I ordered take out and my husband and I had a steak and bacon grinder and a steak wrap and a bowl of French onion soup, We had both agreed there was something very different and odd tasting about the steak that was put on our sandwiches, The French onion soup I had to put together myself, The bread for the soup and the swiss cheese were placed in a paper bag to which I had to peel off of to put into my soup because it had melted by the time we got it home, We were both nauseous after eating this meal that we probably will not be going back at least for a long while, Seems a lot of the pricing has gone up or stayed the same but the quality of food has gone down, They've taken away so many items that actually made some of their dishes most desirable, Definitely room for improvement! read more
