Red raspberry pie and Oreo pie
Megan E.

The food is pure comfort food. It is always consistent. The service is good. The waitresses are always friendly and willing to bring you everything that you need, but it isn't always a place where you can stop in for a quick meal. It's always great when you can sit and have a meal while watching the planes take off. The best part of this restaurant has to be the homemade pies. If you try this restaurant for one thing, go for the pies!

I will admit the 5 stars is for the Butterscotch Pie if nothing else. I was recommend to eat here off of an Instagram post where I mentioned how good the pie was a Urbana airport cafe. Well I wish this place was closer to me. The coffee is okay at best, it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great. My meal was very good at least 4 stars for the German fried potatoes. But hands down some of the best pie I have eaten. Come for the pie. Or to watch airplanes land, or for the pie. I didn't go into the bathrooms so can't say how clean they were, but I will say the staff here is very friendly and the service is very good. I would gladly come back here again to eat. Or just to get Pie...

Ridiculously overpriced. Fake mashed potatoes. Green beans from a can. I ordered a large salad and got 1/4 of a tomato slice, 3 cucumber slices and 4 carrot slivers with some iceberg lettuce. I ordered a baked potato side and it came with nothing-had to ask for butter and sour cream. The server wasn't very excited to help us. Moved quickly and I felt like I was being demanding when asking a question because as soon as anyone asked anything she'd leave so to get her to come back seemed like we were bothering her. Supposedly the pies are made at the restaurant. There are lots of different kinds and when we asked what kinds they have the server said "those" and pointed to the wall. We actually couldn't see it from where we were sitting and eventually she said she could read it to us if she wanted her to...come on! The pie arrived and it was decent but it was cold which seemed like the cherry on top for this crappy place. I mean, if you're gonna tout your pie game then bring it all the way and see if people want warm pie. My mom got ice cream with hers and she agreed it would've been better warm. My family and I are visiting from another state and we've eaten at plenty of great places in Carrollton so trust me I am not complaining for the sake of it. Most of my reviews give people plenty of grace but this place was extremely unimpressive and will never go back.

This place is so cute. I never knew about it until recently. Their waitress Ross I believe is probably the nicest person I have ever met in my life. I really enjoyed my visit and the pie was delicious

Just sit and watch the planes take off and land while you have a bite to eat. Good food and service.

The Grand Tea Room - The Van Horne

If you want a unique but traditional afternoon tea experience, you need to visit The Van Horne!…read more Their food is all locally sourced, and I am sure all delicious. I had their potato soup, which was incredible, the steamed broccoli with cheese which was good, and the Tea for Two with a friend. We got to try their day-old strawberry scones and their raspberry scones of the day (which, by the way, I would not have know which was old and which was not if we hadn't been told). Each of us got to choose 3 sandwiches, which I have not experienced before but appreciated, and I enjoyed all 3 of my cucumber sandwiches. We also each got to choose our own quiche slice from the two daily flavors. I really did appreciate how each person could get exactly what they wanted while still having a full tea experience. The nut rolls and Mexican wedding cookies were also yummy and I wish I could have had more. Each of us got to choose our own tea as well, which is pretty typical, although not every place allows that. They had a huge menu to choose from, and the best part is that you can also order any of their teas to go in a tin to make your own at home. They even have some more unique flavors, such as some oolong varieties. The service is a bit slow, but everyone, from the owners to the servers, is so sweet, so you can't really complain. We had Emma as our server and she did not steer us wrong with recommendations we asked for and was able to tell us all about what we were getting. She is such a joy and in a great role. The ambiance is also unique. It feels like you are either in an antique store or old Victorian house. It really does look like an afternoon tea place. You do need a reservation, especially on a weekend. The space isn't huge and they do not have a huge staff, and you can tell they like to make sure they are prepared so it can be a relaxing, special experience, whether having tea or anything else they offer. I would recommend making a trip out here, and this is a definite stop any time I am in the area moving forward!

Our server told us the specials of the day and told us about the tea. The restaurant is decorated so cute. Old fashioned and fun. We ordered the afternoon tea for 2. We had 3 half croissants each half a large scone each and a small piece of quiche. There were a few cookies and fruit on the tier also. We ordered the Chinese Keemun tea. It was delicious. We also had a cup of potato soup as a starter. The lovely owner came over to check in. She is so sweet. We will definitely be returning for another meal.

There aren't a ton of tables but enough to accommodate 20-30 people in total across various tables. The menu was a little intimidating for me as brunch isn't anything I've ever had. But it's basically a breakfast menu and a lunch menu. They also have a nice bakery selection as well. I went with the caprese and a salad. I made a slight mistake and didn't read everything that came on the sandwich. As an avid carnivore I was a little disappointed to find out it was vegetarian, but that was before I tried it. The combination of the creamy mozzarella, tomato and balsamic was fantastic. It was probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Im hoping the next time we stop in they aren't out of their salty bread to try with it. My wife tried the turkey, Brie and apple butter sandwich. Her's was my favorite of the two. They lightly toast the sandwich so everything is warm and creamy. The apple butter pairs nicely with the Brie and the smokey turkey. I'd recommend both of our sandwiches but if mine was an 8/10 hers was a 10 for me. I also had their house salad on the side. It wasn't anything extra special but the cranberries were a really nice touch to take it to the next level. If I had even one complaint to make it would be the hours. I'm sure they close at 2 because most people because they're a brunch spot, but with the quality of their food i would eat it for any meal of the day. I can't recommend it enough honestly.

When we walked in, there was an unsmiling staff member who just continued to stamp bags while we awkwardly just stood there. However, the rest of the staff was friendly. They have a great menu with interesting options. My husband enjoyed his breakfast sandwich. My quiche was tasty, but while piping hot on the outside, it wasn't even room temp in the middle. I also didn't like having to drink my water out of a plastic cup, but would be happy to stop by this place again

It was cute inside with some fun decor that you had to walk around and enjoy. We were here as a group having a catered lunch so again no idea what to expect. Their coffee specials looked good. We had four wrap options and two salad options to choose from. They also put out a tray of four different desserts. I chose the ham and Swiss wrap and the Italian. Both of them were surprisingly tasty. I never order wraps so I was happy to enjoy them. I had the pear salad with a balsamic dressing that was good. The desserts on the other hand were ok at best. For a place with so much hype around cupcakes I was surprised they weren't on the tray. Instead we had a choice between lemon bars, a strawberry shortcake, s'mores bar or buckeye bar. I tried both the strawberry shortcake which seemed to be a bit too dry and didn't have enough strawberry flavor and the lemon bar which my friend enjoyed but I thought was ok. Just didn't have enough lemon flavor or the lemon gooeyness that I'm used to. The staff was friendly and attentive.
