My mom shopped at Grocery Outlet when I was a kid, and ever since I was old enough to do my own shopping, I learned that she did the smart thing. I've moved to many towns and have always found one, but now that I've moved back to my hometown, I'm glad to see that THIS ONE is the best one! I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people attend this one, giving a bustling but pleasant energy, as if I were shopping at a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Lovely! Most Grocery Outlets lack this energy, but I've always figured that the savings made up for it. In this particular spot, we get the best of everything-- savings, cleanliness, and staff that are friendlier than any big-savings store apart from Costco. The managers here are doing it right. Tell me why I have to comeback here again and again: it's the closest in town and cheaper. But the price that I pay is unfriendly cashiers.

I'm so tired of having to bag my own groceries, most of the cashiers have bad attitudes and won't even offer. Obviously they are over worked and underpaid but damn I'm gong to need to request a W2 for all the bagging I do there. GROCERY OUTLET OWNERS: Staff more employees you greedy suckers!!!! California regulates that paper bags are 10 cents but retailers can charge more for them. Greedy Grocery Outlet charges 15 cents for them and the employees make it their life's mission so ring you up for every single bag, they act like they will get beaten for letting you get away with double bagging your own groceries. Some items here are a decent price but a lot of items you can actually find cheaper at other stores. Grocery Outlet loves to put "other retailers" prices listed on the tag is some insane outrageous amount to make their overpriced item seem like a good price. It's predatory manipulative marketing. I bought some blueberries to snack on before my day of movement, and the clerk at Grocery Outlet asked how I was. "Happy," I replied. She said, "You always are." And that's not the whole story. Paula does all of our shopping precisely because supermarkets are tough for me to navigate. I am highly intelligent and used to being underestimated because I am slow. I am all there, just not lightning-fast like our culture demands. I don't particularly care what others think, and it's not nice to be in spaces where my existence is questioned. Clerks are often going full speed, and every time I have to ask them to downshift. I have a way tondo so that leaves both parties satisfied but still its work. No matter when I go to grocery outlet bargain market, I always find great deals and friendly staff.

I want to start by saying that I am a long time shopper at grocery food outlet. I think the best one is located in placerville, ca. The one in Auburn, ca and Folsom, ca are pleasant and the staff are helpful. The one in Grass valley, CA has almost made me say that I will never trade with the outlet again. The staff seem helpful, but the selection is so minimal and the prices are higher than the major grocery stores. I will drive farther just to avoid that store. I shopped yesterday and had to stop 2 more times to get what I needed. Both places best the outlet by not pennies, but dollars! Don't bother yourself with Grass valley Grocery food outlet! read more

On the positive side, the store is VERY clean, well laid out, and unlike some "Grocery Outlet" stores you could easily do a "full shop" at this particular store. The produce is fresh, though the department is on the smaller side. There are endless aisles of merchandise and the selection is vast....which is unlike another GO I have visited down in Santa Clara, many hours to the south. You will find obscure and interesting beer, which was a nice surprise....I spotted stuff you would usually have to go to a BevMo or a Total Wine (or very good specialty liquor store) to find. The plants out in front are also a nice touch and very convenient for customers. But, here's the drawbacks. There is no "Perimeter" -- Deli, Bakery etc like a normal big chain (Think Safeway, Raleys, Savemart). The prices on everyday items seem to be inline/just as expensive as with the large traditional supermarkets. You can easily do MUCH BETTER on many items just by going to Safeway and playing their "games" such as "Five Dollar Friday" and using their digital coupons (Examples: Beer for 13 something a 12 pack (sale pricing) , 20 something at GO (everyday pricing), Safeway also runs insane 1.97 cheese sales). Other things I noticed on my several visits is that the "help" is not very friendly, and the cashiers are indifferent, chatting intensely with the baggers, or borderline rude. This is isn't the polite June Cleaver experience you get at a normal grocery store. I will say they do an excellent job having enough lanes open. The other thing which comes to mind is that, in other towns, you often have a FoodsCo, Winco or a Food4Less type of store (warehouse grocery store) where you can quite literally, walk out with a shopping cart that has DOUBLE the food items for half the price. This is not that experience. This is a store which talks about bargains and appeals primarily to a money challenged crowd but delivers a passable shopping experience with some occasional good buys/rare items thrown in. If you want a "treasure hunt" (example cool beer/interesting wine), or happen to be very close by, this store is a worthwhile stop. read more

Today was not my day...but I regress. I shop here often but I'm always having to ask for prices of unmarked items on the shelf. To which there are many in the store... So today while checking out I had three items to check prices on. Then I had two items ring up for higher than what the shelf said so I ask them to take off one and then at the end another item rang up wrong so when I mentioned it to the cashier she said well now it's higher as if I was to pay the higher price. As you can imagine I was not happy with that response so I asked if they followed the California state law in regards to pricing mistakes. Well they wouldn't answer that question because they were to busy and said if I didn't like it I could shop elsewhere....so that is what I will be doing from now on. Products are often sold within days of expiring, selection is very hit or miss, and now their prices are almost identical to Safeway across the street. Tell me, what is my incentive to shop here when you don't have what I want, it's close to expiring, and I'm saving next to nothing in the process? What's the excuse now for raising your prices constantly now that the fuel price excuse has expired (just like the products you sell)? This place was predicated on being a bargain. It ain't anymore. I generally shop at Grocery Outlet when available. You can't beat the prices and I love their inventory. I shopped at the Grass Valley location for the first time (we are moving to the area next year and return monthly to explore and find our home). I was so impressed! Its selection was the best of any Grocery Outlet location I've been to, and I've been to many between San Diego to Everett, Wa., and many locations in between. I also used to shop at the Arizona locations in Tucson a long time ago. This store's inventory was incredible, it was well organized, clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Who doesn't like a bargain, especially when it's on alcohol. We have started stopping here regularly when we're passing through because they have beer we can't get where we live. Staff have always been cordial. Customers in the parking lot aren't on their best behavior but inside we haven't had any issues. Lines can get a bit long but they still move quicker than some of the big box stores. They have a large, shared parking lot which is convenient and there is a nice brewery across the street. There isn't one reason we aren't stopping here again next time we pass through. read more

So far I have found items I didn't know they sold here like mushroom coffee and broth tea and lamb/ deer meat. Wow There staff were very friendly and directed me to the correct locations when I had a Question. Nice to know the staff knows their store. So when we go on trips, we will stop at Grocery Outlets if they have one in that city. We just got into town and found out that Grass Valley has one so we stopped. We hadn't even checked into our hotel and our car was full. I was so impressed with this GO. Their selection of practically everything was bigger than ours. We purchased a ton of stuff that our local GO doesn't offer. As always I headed to the wine area. Now this area was actually slightly smaller than ours but they had wines we have purchased that our GO has not offered in a long while. I want to do a shout out to both Denise and David who was working in that area. They helped me and my husband with selections. I got excited to see that David brought out more of the local Nevada City wine. That area was sold out when I first looked. I grabbed a couple of those bottles. Denise also recommended a white wine that she had in Italy that this GO carried for $4.99! These 2 employees went out of their way to help us and was so personable. I'm embarrass to say that we left with a dozen bottles and then a couple of days later, right before we were headed home we went back and got more wines! read more

I love this store! I do the majority of my shopping here. It's clean and has great prices. They can get busy in the late afternoon's, but for the most part the lines aren't to long. But what I really came here to say is that I adore their employees. Every interaction I've ever had with people working here has been helpful and friendly. Two stars because of the great inventory, friendly employees, booze deals, and because I'm a long time Grocery Outlet fan and supporter. This review began at negative 4 stars, because today I saw not only: 5 customers without face-masks, but at least two employees without them either (plastic face-shields only). I'm not going to bother looking up CDC guidelines about face shields at a grocery store, because common sense tells me all I need to know... They will not help like masks. I couldn't figure out which line to stand in, because mask-free mouth-breathers were...there. Breathing in each one.. I feel bad for the employees who actually care. Allowing customers and especially employees to be in the store without a face mask-at the height of the covid explosion-is completely irresponsible. I am an out-of-towner, but I was stunned to see what I saw. Why don't you review the guidelines, follow Safeway's lead, and show some decency. Love this grocery store. It is always my first stop on shopping day. Their organic and natural selection is very impressive, often surpassing the quality of the major supermarkets. Sure, they don't always have everything I am looking for, but I have the same issues at Safeway and Raley's. The only negatives I can offer are the parking lot (not their fault) and a few of their staff members could use a reminder how to be courteous. The Mothership of Grolets! This store is amazing. The first thing that hits you is the size....it's a Grocery Outlet on Grocery Growth Hormones. But it's not just big for purposes of some grocery-envy or short basket complex, no...its big because it has not only the typical GO offerings such as salami ends and pieces and pumpkin pie poptarts but also carrot juice, fig bars and sesame-chutney-salted-sccoby-snack hoopachews as well. Brilliant. Deals are excellent; the only competition on price would be Winco however I noticed some items - like building-block sized Monterey Jack cheese @ 6.99 - actually kicks Winco's ass on the playground of size and price point. And it's all brought to you in wonderful Grass Valley so leave your expectations as to the a-typical clientele at home...this GO is on the other side of that Rabbit Hole. Don't believe me? This store has hipsters, hippies, post-hipsters with jobs, senior hippies, grower guys, nervous looking tea-party types and tweaks...all in one very busy melting pot of a store at the corner of Kush and High; 49. The workers stare at me like I am the hamburger at a pre-ordained, vegan dress-up party. Lot's of scary people at check-out, and smells like rotting veg and meth. Everyone is usually so busy stocking the shelves except one or two of the bullies I remember from grade school. I went to school in the bay area though. But they all still have frowns and anger in their bodies like I remember the bullies did, even some of the even bigger bullies in high school. Nearby Ben Franklin and Staples had sensible policies of limiting numbers, one way aisles and a request for customers to wear masks. With C-19 hitting every community very hard, it is uplifting to go to a grocery store that is clean, organized and stocked with as much as can be expected. The store is protecting it's employees and it's shoppers. Funny as hell, this is how STUPID I AM. I bought red seedless grapes yesterday at the Grass Valley Grocery Outlet, company coming up this weekend....tasted these grapes when I got home...OMG...talk about OLD, paid $12.00 for these grapes....what pissed me off....I KNOW BETTER THAN TO BUY PRODUCE FROM THAT STORE...I once again thought, well maybe, just MAYBE these will be ok, I don't have to make another stop at another store...WRONG. I have called G.O. before to let them know how bad their produce is, I was told they will check into it...pretty sure they checked into their produce and stated YEP, its bad.! I am going to call this store this morning, I will get a SORRY ABOUT THAT, bring them back with your receipt...YES. pay $6.50 for ONE gallon of gas, to return these grapes...since I live far from that store, I won't be returning them for over a week....G.O. WHY DO YOU KEEP SELLING 2nds??? PEOPLE, before you buy ANY BAGGED produce, sweet potatoes, Russets, you had BETTER squeeze each and every item in that bag.....Also note NOW. Grocery Outlet is a great store. The produce is ok, but everything else is great! I have extreme celiacs disease and gluten free food is so expensive. I'm glad I can finally afford to have convenience foods again. Life is so hard when your scratch cooking food for your whole family and toddler. It's just really nice to put a gluten free frozen dinner in the microwave when I'm tired. And it's nice to be able to eat cookies again. read more
