Store is clean and well organized. Produce and stock is pretty fresh but always check the expire date or sell by date. I'm not sure where all the hate is coming from with the other reviewers. Port Hueneme was in dire need of neighborhood grocery store after Marie's Market closed down. I like coming here and getting milk, juice, and produce and not having to drive all the way down to Channel Islands road. My wife went in for one simple item--foil--and asked two different employees where she could find it. The first employee completely ignored her and acted like she wasn't even there. The second employee simply pointed in a direction and said, "It's over there," with a rude attitude, offering no real help. Customer service should never make customers feel like they're an inconvenience for asking a simple question. It only takes a few seconds to be polite and helpful. Used to be a place I would go to regularly. About a week ago I went in and was in line behind an elderly man who was trying to buy a few items on his ebt card. He was having some issues with the card reader and the cashier was getting frustrated with him. When he finally got it the cashier announced loudly more than 3 times that he had no money on the account. The gentleman seemed confused and didnt know what the cashier was saying. I offered to pay 4-5 times but the cashier kept repeating to him that he has no money. I told the man to leave with the items as I was going to take care of it for him. The employee seemed to get upset that he left but I insisted to just ring my items up with his so he could eat. (His items only totaled about $11) the employee wanted me to do two separate transactions and I declined saying to just ring up my stuff too. Finally the employee did what I asked and then said that their policy makes it so nobody can leave with unpaid merchandise but... I was paying already. It was sort of confusing because this location is pushing for you to donate to the fundraising they are doing to feed the community. This guy just wanted to eat and the person was rude. I attempted to reach Felipe for days to discuss this and kept getting rude employees giving me the runaround pushing me to call the next day when he was in. I kept calling for days during the hours they told me to and the cycle continued. Finally spoke to a manager who said Felipe would call me. He never did. Went for the LAST time today. This is now the 3rd time I've come in and had a cashier push my groceries towards me and hand me a bag instead of actually working and doing their job and bag my things, mind you I only had a few items and this lazy cashier looks at me and hands me a bag and pushes my items towards me. When I confronted her she said it was busy!! lol. There were only 3 people behind me. This place is a joke. This is the THIRD employee who has done this here. I met the owner before and thought he was going to run a tight ship, but he clearly hires anyone and doesn't train or ensure his employees are actually providing good customer service. Highly recommend going somewhere else where they value customers. Mind you a lot of people coming here won't say anything and I think this place relies on that and takes advantage of cliental who shop here. I have enjoyed this market for the past year with no problems. Today there was a really long line and the next customer was an elderly man. As we waited, a woman tried several times to cut the line. I told her that the man was next and he'd been waiting a long time. It looked like another lane was opening, but it was instead a shift change. Everyone was patient except the young woman. At my turn, I saw another lane opened and surely, that lady pushed in front of all the folks that had been waiting in front of her. I mentioned to the cashier that they should really take the person that was next in turn. Wow! She stopped, snapped at me saying "What!?". I said when a new lane opens, they should ... She cut me off and barked loudly. "We take the next person in line!" She started scanning my food and pitched them to the end of the platform. I stood at the end to bag them as she angrily continued to throw my food. I watched her pinch the bread with both hands as she scanned it. Without looking at me she said "Do you want your receipt?". She was having the worst day and decided to unleash on a customer. Too bad. My son interviewed here when they opened and is always grateful to have not been hired. Disgusting customer service and wrong tags not just one tag either - item was tagged multiple times with wrong price. then manager refuses to honor price saying the owner does not let her because it messes up "their inventory." So I asked her "so you guys just have wrong tags and refuse to honor ONE item (I would understand if it was multiple items I was trying to buy) ?"" and she says "yup" with a smug smile and nasty attitude. First time in our local market , place looks Like they have it all . Went in for some Coffee , desserts &. Party supplies , they are pet friendly . The Workers there all Seem unhappy , they don't smile or greet you . There is only one register open and the line is huge ! I'm Glad we were not in a hurry . I was glad to hear they were opening a grocery store in the downtown area as we needed one BADLY and I have to say this store exceeded my expectations. It's on par with some of the nicer stores I've shopped at with quality products comparable to some of the very nice stores I used to shop at up in Oregon but this store doesn't over price everything. The prices here are awesome! As far as customer service goes, I went in asking for chia seeds last week and they didn't have any but I came in a week later to find they got some good organic chia seeds. So they are quite attentive. The cashiers up front are friendly and helpful. They have gress fed, hormone free ground beef for $5/lb! & Lots of other great deals on everything. I'm still surprised that we got such a nice store here and I feel that our quality of life right in this neighborhood has improved thanks to this store. I'm reluctant to publicize this fact, but while the liquor selection isn't particularly large, there are a few terrific bargains to be had. Additionally, there are good prices on many staple items I regularly buy. The location is ideal for me. Unlike a nearby grocery store, which I avoid as much as possible, I've yet to experience any poor customer service here. The only downside I can think of is that sometimes I find that items that most other grocery stores would carry aren't stocked. Tonic water is one example. However, that is understandable given the discount/closeout business model and I don't hold it against the business. Overall, a solid place to shop. read more

The store is clean and well-stocked. We all know there are good and bad days, but working in a toxic environment throws your day off immediately, which often happens there. Employees are overworked because the owner, Fidel Jacobo, doesn't want to hire more people due to his sales numbers not meeting his requirements. As a result, he assigns multiple jobs to one employee and gets upset if the tasks are not done, even though the pay is not worth the stress or overwork. Fidel Jacobo, the owner of that store, presents two faces: one for customers (nice, kind, polite, and friendly) and another for his employees (rude, narcissistic, and unprofessional). He is a total asshole to his employees, and most of them are afraid to speak up because it is their only source of income. Very disappointed in their owner FIDEL JACOBO customer service. I am shocked by his behavior and the way he handled the situation making me feel guilty for even complaining. I went days ago and purchased items and asked for a couple of price checks while checking out the cashier very sweet checked but accidentally ended up charging me for it. When I checked the receipt in my vehicle I thought its $4.00 so I proceeded to get off and asked for my refund I was only refunded partial by her manager of the name of Shelly which she looked annoyed because of how busy they were but only gave me back $1.49 plus tax but still like I mentioned there were many people there and I didn't want to keep disputing that she was giving me the wrong refund amount. The next day I show up to purchase more items (as I was a regular-no longer a customer after today) and the manager Shelly was in the check out lane with the light on when I asked are you closed, she mentioned yes I am. So i moved to the other only check out that was open waiting and she took four more customers after she told me she was closed. I felt that was rude on her part, so I decided to call today and talk to Fidel and he was so rude and pretty much said "your complaining about .50 cents I can pay you out of my pocket any time you wanna come back. He did not apologize nor listened to what I was trying to tell him he proceeded on also mentioning "what do you want me to do fire her, I wont do that" I wasn't even going there All I wanted was an apology and some credibility to how I was poorly being treated. I was in shock with his behavior and he said he wasn't gonna continue in this conversation and hung up on me. Service was only great on opening day, even with so many customers, I have been in store five times since opening, and have heard bickering between cashiers and other employees, and today the cashier charged me for three bags when she clearly new I would need more and the asked If I wanted to purchase more after she completed my transaction, and then told me to bag my own groceries. I was really hoping this was going to be my go to market since I live one block away. Very disappointing. Employees don't take pride in their work and really need some people skills. Cheaper than most but if you're a picky shopper, this is not the place for you. Like Yogurt? Well, they carry only two kinds, (one brand), blueberry and vanilla. Fairly easy parking and relatively good in and out, good for a quick visit in a pinch, or if you don't feel like driving to Ralphs. Prices are cheaper for a reason though, for instance, take their cheese. You need a scissors or sharp knife to unlock it. Kind of gets stale fast too, cardboard like, so I've found. All in all, not too bad, but not great either, again limited selection on most items, especially fruits and veggies. You may find its good to buy condiments, paper towels, toilet paper, detergent and the like here first due to the savings, then proceed to a real supermarket afterward. read more

I was going to the store to support it because I shop on base . I like it , you can get what you need fast and get out . The owner is nice and the store is clean . The cashier ladies are very rude . I sure hope the owner can train the cashiers to have better people skills . After talking to a few others I've decided not to shop there unless it's necessary . If the cashiers don't improve their attitudes sadly the business won't last . I say that as a business owner myself . Smart and final is not too far away and they are nicer . Most of us will just go back to smart and final . I don't know the cashiers name but it's an older lady . She hasn't done anything to me personally but I've been in there like 5-6 mornings and she's arguing with customers or just gossiping about people in a very negative way .
