I decided to stop in and check this place out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As soon as you step in, the smell of fish is intense and overwhelming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There was an Asian market I used to shop at in Fresno that also sold fresh fish but the smell was not as intense as Island Pacific. They have all the things you would be looking for in an Asian market, fresh veggies, seasonings, sauces, noodles, kitchenware, frozen goods and of course their fish. It's kind of cool to see the various fish sold but it's definitely stinky. Up by the cashiers they have hot food to go. I didn't get a good look at what is on the menu but everything on display looked fried. There was also a line of about 8 people and it was 3:30pm. I've been wanting to post this review, it's actually been on my review draft for quite a long time now. But I try to be patient and understandable lol. The service at the hot food area is super slow!!!! I think they need to hire people that are quick to move, they chit chat way too much and just plain SLOW!!!! I don't go here often because of this reason. I literally set a timer out on how long I wait in line, approximately 10-15 mins in line. While I watch them chitchat and move slow. There will be at least 3-4 ladies out there but some of them just stands around, passing their duty to one another while the other one is still busy chatting and scooping food slowly. Personally, I like this Island Pacific Supermarket in Oxnard better than the brand new Seafood City Market in town. Comparatively speaking, I think this grocery store has a better selection of Filipino groceries than their new competition. We visited both stores one day apart. The Jackfruit that they sell at Island Pacific in their produce section is awesome!! Seafood City did not have that available the next day we went. Just sayin.... With it currently being Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I was curious what was in store at the Island Pacific Supermarket. It has been years since I've shopped here and thought this morning would be a good time to check it out before heading into work. The store had just opened and all of the aisles were clean and stocked. There was even fresh fished stocked in the back and priced pretty well. The store had a great selection of dry good and very competitive with the prices of my new go-to store (Galleria) in Northridge. The best part of my visit this morning was the ready-made dishes. You can create combos from a large selection of cooked dishes. Since was still early, I opted to try their halo halo drink. It was my first, but I'm accustomed to many other Asian sweet drinks and desserts. This was a very good drink and very sweet and cold. It would be perfect for a hot day, but it was also a great way to start a morning off. The lady that made and served my drink even gave me instructions on how to eat and drink it. We get to Island Pacific once every few months when we have some specific needs in mind (mainly for Vietnamese, Thai, or Phillipino items). We were out of a particular condiment that had been featured recently in mainstream media (I hesitate to name it), and found it at Island Pacific for 1/4 the price quoted on Amazon, and 1/3 the price quoted at other places. We stocked up! Finding things at Island Pacific is always an adventure, but the staff are consistently helpful. I was also looking for canned water chestnuts and canned bamboo shoots, and was directed to the exact spot. We got our shrimp chips and dried squid jerky along with our other selections. The variety of seafood is amazing, from Pacific fish to Norwegian (how they get bins full of fresh fish in from Norway in a timely manner is a wonder). The store was very clean this time. It has always been cleaner than the Van Nuys 99 Ranch, but today it was very nice indeed. read more

Love hate this place. Be careful buying meats in the refrigerated sections because some are green, rancid. I've had no issues going to the butcher section, having meat freshly cut. I come here to buy specific cuts of meats used in Filipino dishes. Love the fried fish select and they cook. Crispy pata and the food deli in front was decent. Again do not waste your time in the refrigerated section of meats! Have them cut up your crispy pata FRESH. They give AARP discounts. Great selection of Filipino specialties. A loyal island pacific customer here eversince. I love the set up of the market the people and most specially the merchandise. But the only downside of all the good thing about this market is this one rude lady at the Phil house food section. This lady that wears a bonnet all the time even during summertime is super rude and disrespectful annoying and offensive tone in communicating with the customers. We love and support this market and the food they make but only this lady who she thinks and act like she's the owner of that place is the only negative down side coz of her bad vibes that will shoo away good customers like us. I heard that she had been the only annoying person in this section. There's a new Grill food at Seafood city that we can go to and will not be treated as beggars begging for food that we pay anyways from like what she has been treating customers like us. She should'nt be working in this area. She should be transferred if not get fired to Fish section where she belongs. We pay for the food we ordered and we are loyal customers of your store so i don't think we should be treated like we are begging for food everytime we order from there. This is a review on their new mobile ordering service. Island Pacific now offers delivery or pickup at the store! You can use their website or download the mobile app to add grocery items in your cart. Then you choose whether you want delivery (through Postmates) or schedule a pickup at the store. I scheduled a pickup at my convenience. On the day of pickup, Alain, the store manager, called and texted me to let me know one of my items was out of stock. He gave me options for a replacement when I called him back. Later, I received a text that my groceries were ready. The text provided the phone number of the store to call upon my arrival. I called from the parking lot and told them the color and make of my car. An employee wearing a mask and gloves brought out my groceries and loaded the back of the car for me! As a new resident of Oxnard I have been looking for a decent asian market and so far i have been sorely disappointed by the lack of decent supermarkets in Ventura county that cater to our needs . Island pacific is certainly the most well stocked market I've found so far. The seafood looks pretty good and the produce & vegetables are decent. I wish there is a 99 Ranch or equivalent around here...... i think i will write to 99 Ranch and suggest for them to meet this unmet need read more

About time Ventura County offered a big chain Asian Market. Although I personally prefer supporting small businesses (Asahi, San Jose, etc.) and was always a fan of the nearby Seabreeze Market that closed down shortly after IP's arrival... I do appreciate the variety of this big chain market when shopping for my Filipino ingredient needs. When it comes to animal products... I stick to buying only fried fish (which depending on the time can at times take a while) and longanisa. Other meats and seafood (such as oysters) that I've purchased from there, did not smell fresh. Variety of drinks, chips, and other goodies to snack on. Prices are reasonable as with any other Asian market. Their food court is edible enough to satisfy your Filipino food fix. Their bistek and dinuguan are usually very oily and uoky is never fully crunchy on the inside. On the brightside I do enjoy their chicken skins and breakfast if I'm early enough to get there! =) Don't let the location scare you. There are always lots of people hanging around the entrance. Love love love! A large Filipino market! If you love seafood this is your to go place! They have a extremely large selection of fish , crab, clams etc! They even have a fish fry where you can pick your own fish from the market and they'll clean and fry it for you! Have your fish for lunch right away! They even have a kitchen where they serve freshly made Filipino food. I must say the products are nut on the expensive side but is to be expected since it's all imported. The service is good as well! I went here yesterday to get the ingredients for my soup and was surprised how big this store was.The fresh fish selection was crazy! And the different varieties of pork, beef, and chicken were almost too much to look at. The price on the chicken was great. The staff was so helpful, Rowan H who was checking my groceries out advised me that I could have picked a better selection on my ribs and took me back to the meat counter and picked put a better package and it was cheaper than the one I picked out. One young gentlemen helped me find the Shao Xing cooking wine that I had been searching for. This store did not disappoint. We have lived in Ventura county since 2007 and had yet to find a fresh fish location we liked. Guess what, great fresh here people! the do not all the popular stuff like halibut but none the less a great variety of fresh as in live Tilapia and crab and frozen fish and shell fish too. Since its a Filipino market they have very nice affordable pork bellies which is used in many family adobo recipes. YUM-O-Rama! However, I take the pork bellies home and put on my secret cure and then smoke them into my famous Apple-Wood Whiskey Pepper Bacon. It doesn't get any better than makin your own bacon! I grew up in the Philippines so as a kid i got to eat all kinds of cool foods and you can get most of them here fresh and ready to eat, frozen and ready to prepare yourself! I went to go look for some ube purple yams which my friend said she got there and they didn't have any today :-( The store is definitely an asian style store so if your not used to the smell of fish you might be kind of surprised. They had a large selection of fish that you can't get in a regular grocery store. They had a nice selection of frozen asian dumplings, lumpia, and egg rolls and many more items. The prices are higher than what you would see at other Asian markets in LA. They also have a lot of Filipino snacks. They also sell Filipino hot foods that you can order and pack to go. I'm familiar with Island Pacific, and this is the most unkempt one I've been to. The products on the shelves are stocked properly, as are those in the frozen and produce section, but the meat and seafood departments need to get it together; the products do not look presentable whatsoever, almost as if a bear went through them. As far as the food is concerned, their Monggo with fish mixed in is absolutely disgusting. Who the hell even does that? If their Monggo doesn't have fish, then it has slices of lechon in it, which doesn't make any sense. I hope mixing fish or pork is how they really cook Monggo here, and not just a matter of using leftovers. Lifer here in the Nard( Oxnard) Born & raised here. This is the ONLY store that has sustained the Filipino/Asian culture that is remaining. Thankful for "THE HUT" Mini Food Restaurant they have. Food is delicious, pretty much sells out. Love the Pinakbet & Pancit combo. THANKFUL for this place. No other stores have survived. Once this leaves ( hope it doesn't) it will force a majority of us to drive into the lovely 101 congested traffic all for Skyflakes and veggies.
